Author's Notes:

I am so sorry for not getting another short out, I've been racking my brain trying ot think of what to write. But finally, after so long, I've got an idea, and I'm ready to keep going.

I hope you enjoy it, and thank you all for the patience!

Twas another lovely day, and a day-off as well! Day off from school, so now the students of the prestigious Crystal Prep Academy and Canterlot High.

While most of the kids at CPA had their plans set, there were some who didn't know what to do. Lemon Zest, was one of those people. A few days ago, she ran into a girl at one of her favorite stores, a girl who bared very similar tastes to her own, as shown by her hunking shoulder pads and parachute pants. A girl with just as much crazy love as the 80s as she did.

This could only mean one thing!

"A date!?"

That yell came from Sunny Flare, one of Lemon Zest's best friends, all the way from childhood. She along with Sugarcoat were sitting on the edge of Lemon's bed, in Lemon's very messy bedroom. Clothes scattered about, bed not made, CDs, cassettes, toys, you name it! She lived like a rockstar, literally.

"You talked to a girl in a store who you've never met before, just one single meeting, and now you're considering asking her out on a date?"

"Yeah!" Lemon grinned.

"... Um, dearie, I don't know how to word this, but..."

"Please, let me," Sugarcoat offered. "Lemon, as much as it'd be nice for you to go on a date and have a girlfriend, shouldn't you get to know this girl some more?"

"Well of course, silly!" Lemon exclaimed.

"But asking her out on a date, seems a bit of a stretch..."

"No, I'm not asking her out. I'm just meeting her for some coffee and hanging out with her at the mall to get to know her some more. I'm asking her out on our third day!" Lemon giggled.

Sugarcoat just slowly shook her head. She didn't even know what to say right now. Or even if she could say anything right now.

"Okay, lets see, lets see..." Lemon said, looking through her clothes.

"Dearie, don't you think you should just dress like you normally do?"

"No, not good enough!" Lemon said, brushing her comment aside. "It needs to be something good, something cool! Something that shows my fun side, my energetic personality, but also all of my silliness!"

Several articles of clothing were thrown behind her, flying past Sunny and Sugarcoat.

"Oooh! What do you think girls?" Lemon Zest asked. "Perhaps I should go for... The Thriller?" She asked as moved her arms side to side, performing the dance.

"No."

"Perhaps a bit more... Punk?" Lemon Zest held up a black leather jack with some sharp studs all around the shoulders and sleeves.

"No."

Lemon Zest paused, looking back at the mirror. Then she looked back to Sugarcoat.

"Does it look like I'm trying too hard?"

"YES! Yes you are! You are trying way too hard for something that shouldn't be tried so hard to begin with!" Sugarcoat replied. "Don't be that girl who keeps trying too hard."

Lemon shrugged. "I am that girl."

Sunny Flare shook her head. "Look, if you want to show up, then..."

Sunny Flare dug into Lemon's closet, digging through her clothes. A few pairs of underwear flew past her, some occasionally hitting Lemon's face, along with some socks and shoes. Now suddenly, Sunny was getting into the shirts and pants.

"Ooh, I like that one!" Lemon said as a pair of pink spandex pants flew onto her bed. "That's a good color!" A green tank top was next to come. Then suddenly, all lights went out as soon as a blue t-shirt covered her head. "Oh this is the shirt I spilled my ice cream on." She audibly sniffed the shirt. "Mmm... Vanilla."

Sunny pulled the shirt off of Lemon's head, looking her in the eyes.

"Why are you so desperate to make this perfect?"

"Well, I..."

Sugarcoat stood next to Sunny Flare, getting a look from Lemon.

"Yes?"

Lemon sighed. "Its complicated. I guess I just don't want to screw this up..."

Sugarcoat and Sunny smiled at their energetic friend.

"It'll be okay. She's bound to like you," Sugarcoat smiled.

"Just give it a try, and do your best!"

Lemon smiled. "I will! I know I will!"

After getting her things, she headed out the door and to the coffee shop; a famous little hotspot in Canterlot called the Hot Kettle Cafe. Great service, variety of pastries and drinks, and not to mention, friendly waitstaff!

She picked that place as a place to meet that girl she met from the shop, plus, pastries? She looked like someone who loved to have sweets. And taking someone out to this cafe was how Lemon Zest met many of the other students from CPA, and how her small social circle grew bigger and bigger.

She sat at a booth by herself, just chilling back as she waited. She could hear the patrons around her eating happily, enjoying their meals and talking to one another.

Lemon Zest herself was dressed in her normal clothes; yellow short shorts, running shoes, minty green tank top, and of course, neon blue fingerless gloves on her hands. In addition, she also had a boombox sitting beside her, to bring just in case. Definitely would want to show that girl, she'd love to see that!

In seconds, Lemon Zest was a little more happy when she saw she wasn't alone. That same girl she met at the shop had shown up, albeit dressed a bit different. Sleeveless jean jacket, black fingerless gloves, track pants. Her hair, her hair was different too! Her puffy hair was now stylized to match a dated mullet style back in the 1980s.

She grinned when she saw the green-haired girl sitting at one of the booths and immediately rushed over and sat down.

"Hey!"

"Hey, good to see ya!" Lemon grinned.

The girl grinned back. "Good to see you too! Lemon Zest, right?"

"You bet! Now let me guess, let me guess... it was.. um... Bal... no, no..."

The girl giggled. "Amethyst. Amethyst Star, or if you want, just call me Amy."

Lemon smiled. "Amy... I like that."

She shook her hand, greeting her. Their waiter came by and took their drink orders, then walking off. Though she did look back at the very bizarre looking haircut on Amethyst's head.

"So..."

Lemon giggled. "Yeah?"

"Really glad to see ya again, I know we just met and all, but..."

"No, no, its okay dude. If I can be honest, I uh... I kinda wanted to see ya again, too," Lemon said, brushing her arm.

"Really?"

"Yeah, totally! I mean, look at you! Jean jacket, mullet head, you practically scream awesomeness!" Lemon cheered.

Amethyst laughed, "Well, I wouldn't say awesome, but--"

"--Seriously dude, you look awesome," Lemon replied. "I've never seen someone so cool about that."

Amethyst shrugged. "I guess I don't really care what anyone thinks of my look. I'm happy with me being who I am."

Lemon smirked. "Sweet..."

Amethyst rolled her eyes, chuckling. "Now, tell me. Are you just as big of a nerd of 1980s stuff like I am?"

"Yes, yes I am." Lemon smirked.

"Really? How?"

"Well for one, my clothes certainly don't match, I'm wearing bright neon, I've got loads of bubblegum in my short shorts pockets, and also, this bad boy sitting next to me," Lemon said, raising up the boombox.

Amethyst gasped. "No, way... how did you get a boombox!?"

"My dad's loaded, and I go to a fancy private school," Lemon boasted. "Buuuutttttt I got this as a birthday present, passed down from him."

Amethyst grinned. "You lucky girl."

"Hey, come on, you can grow your hair out to make a mullet, look at mine, its all over the place!" Lemon laughed.

The two girls laughed, looking at each other.

"Yeah..."

"Yeah..."

Amethyst shrugged. "Anyways, private school, where is that?"

"Crystal Prep Academy!" Lemon said, sticking her tongue out and making a rock and roll sign.

"Wait a minute, CPA?"

"Yeah, why?"

Amethyst's jaw dropped and it slowly turned into a grin. "We've got the Friendship Games in a few weeks."

Lemon was a bit confused, but only for a few seconds as her jaw quickly grinned back at her.

"No way! Are you... Canterlot High?"

"Yeah!"

"Oh this is awesome!" Lemon cheered, nearly grabbing all attention from the patrons in the restaurant. "I can't believe I'm meeting a CHS student, that's amazing! What's it like there? Is it big, is it scary, are there pantsers in the hallway?"

Amethyst was a bit overloaded from the questions, but she recuperated herself and gave her responses.

"The school is fine, aside from how poor they handle certain situations, its not scary, and thankfully we have no one who goes pantsing people in the hallways."

"Nice!" Lemon said, giving her a high five.

"Do you have any people who pants others at your school?" Amethyst asked.

"Oh, no dude. If Principal Cinch find out, whoo boy, you'd be in serious trouble."

"Doesn't take kindly to pranking, does she?"

"Well... most of the time, yes. But most of the time, she's pretty chill so its not really something to worry about."

Amethyst nodded.

After so long, their waitress finally came over with their drinks; bringing over a cappuccino and mocha for the two of them.

"Soo..." Lemon asked, taking a sip of her cappuccino. "You heard about those new heroes?"

Amethyst gagged and choked on her mocha, spitting up some of it onto the table. Lemon Zest nearly jumped in surprise, but she got up in case she needed to perform the Heimlich maneuver. Thankfully, she didn't.

"Um... you okay, dude?"

Amethyst coughed some more, and chuckled nervously. "I'm fine Lemon, really, I'm fine. Its just... caught me by surprise."

Lemon raised a brow, not convinced by her answer. "Okay... well, anyways, your thoughts?"

"Oh, yeah, I've heard of them, pretty sweet," Amethyst shrugged. "You uh... you got a favorite?"

"Of course, silly! Retro-Girl!"

Amethyst's cheeks blushed. "Oh, really?"

"Yeah! Seriously, that girl speaks my language! She's slick, she's slender, she's fast, she's... I'm making you uncomfortable, aren't I?"

The purple skinned girl's cheeks only went more and more red. She couldn't help it. She knew deep down who she was talking about, and while she certainly didn't want to tell her or do anything to give herself away, she felt a little charmed that she was actually talking to an admirer.

"No, no, really, you're fine."

"Your red face says otherwise... are you sure you're okay?"

"Really, I'm fine. Just a-uh, little hot in here, that's all."

Lemon wasn't sure how to respond.

"A-Anyways, soooo..." Amethyst said, trying to change the topic. "You uh... got any hobbies?"

"Oh of course, tons of them!" Lemon Zest grinned. "You a gamer?"

"Yeah. But I'm not sure, what qualifies as gamer to you?"

"Well, anything, really!" Lemon beamed.

"Well, not to brag... but I'm champion of the old Centipede machine up in the arcade at the Canterlot Mall," Amethyst boasted, feeling a bit smug.

"Nice," Lemon clicked her tongue. "Though I won't lie, I've been looking for someone to play a little War Of Worlds with me there. It'd be nice to have another gunner at my side."

Amethyst raised a brow and smirked. "I'd be happy to play with ya."

"Yes!" Lemon cheered again, this time being the one blushing from calling everyone's attention. "Ooops. Sorry..."

"Its fine, Lemon. But please tell me, is there anything else you like?"

"Of course! I love music, dancing, puppies, exercising! And cute girls," Lemon winked, making Amethyst blush again, enticing her to giggle. "What about you?"

"Oh, right. Well, at my school, I play a keytar in a band, I'm athletic, I love games, old music... I'll admit, I love doggies."

Lemon squeaked. "Yay! Dogs are the best!"

"I know, right?" Amethyst grinned.

"Seriously, they're so loyal and affectionate, they won't hurt you, they give you affection when you need it..." Lemon sighed, giggling and thinking about the cuteness of little doggies.

Eventually their waitress came back, providing them with some meals. The two girls immediately dug into their food, munching down on their burgers.

"Mmm, this stuff is good!" Amethyst said, chowing down.

"Yeah, this stuff really hits the spot when you need it!" Lemon nodded, munching on the meat in her burger.

"Yeah, definitely!" Amethyst said, taking another bite.

The two of them chowed down like hungry animals, thankfully a sight that none of the other patrons could see right now.

"So," Lemon said, gulping down another piece of her burger. "You uh... wanna hit the arcade later today? Maybe get some gaming in there?"

Amethyst wiped her mouth, and she gave a warm smile back.

"You know... I'd like that."

"Oh, really?"

Amethyst gave another smile, her hand slowly patting Lemon's pink hand. Lemon blushed, and her hand patted back. A small tingle was in her heart, making her feel all warm over and her heart pound when she felt Amy's warm tender skin.

After the two moved their hands away, blushing harshly and giggling at each other, they just continued to dig into their meals. Lemon Zest couldn't help but smile all the way. She may not be asking her out on a date, but maybe, just maybe one day she'll get the chance. And maybe she could get closer with this cute girl.

This was definitely a day she'd tell her friends about. And this would also be a day, she wouldn't forget...
