Chapter 14: Chapter 13: The Awkward Aria

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Aria looked at herself nervously in the mirror. Tonight was the night that she had waited so long for, so much so that she had spent all day mentally preparing. After Adagio had spent the day with Juniper and the day after with Trixie it was finally Aria's turn and she knew exactly what she wanted to do with it. She to Adagio's surprise had decided to forfeit spending the entire day with her in exchange for one good old fashioned date. With some quick arrangements made with the help of Rarity Adagio had managed to get a reservation at "Gustav's" One of the fanciest restaurants in Canterlot City owned by the world renowned Gustav Le Grande! And they were set to arrive at 7:00 P.M. sharp.

"OK, Aria you can do this, this was your idea and you can't let nerves cause you to back out now!" Aria reassured herself in the mirror, looking at her reflection. She had her hair up in their usual pigtails though this time they were held in place by two bronze stars as opposed to her usual silver ones. Her outfit was a cute little Goth Lolita style dress that Rarity had found in her shop, saying she had originally made it for her little sister Sweetie Belle but forgot about it, so she had been more then happy to gift it to Aria. The white frills on the edges of the dress and sleeves complimented the black fabric quite well and the red lace cross stitched lace near the top added a lovely accent. The costume topped off with long black and white leggings that feed into black boots. As much as Aria hated to admit it, the dress did suite her well, conforming near perfectly to her small petite body, though part of her still bemoaned that she would never be considered sexy in any outfit, at the very least she could pull off adorable, even if she felt it might damage her reputation as a tough girl.

Aria was quickly brought out of her thoughts and insecurities however as she heard a knock on the door and Adagio's voice

"C'mon Aria, we need to get going, Gustav's is all the way across town and we need to be there in 45 minutes!" Aria gulped one last time before responding "O-OK i'm coming!" She nervously boomed as she opened the door to see a rather stunning Adagio Dazzle on the other side. Aria looked up at the siren leader and couldn't help but blush. Adagio was wearing a simple sleeveless black dress that hugged her body tightly showing off her exquisite form. the dress was embedded with shiny sequins that caused it to sparkle in the light a black choker with a fake red stone on her neck, and some glorious golden high heeled shoes. Adagio knew she was beautiful and she wasn't afraid to show it given by the amount of skin the revealing outfit showed off. Aria could do nothing but continue to gaze in awe.

"So, yea ready?" Adagio playfully asked giving her sister a wink.

"A-ah yea! Totally!" Aria stuttered.

"Well, OK then, let's get going" Adagio purred as she took Aria's hand and headed out the door.

"You two have fun on you're totally not weird sister date!" Sonata cheered as they left.

"Yea, something tells me calling it that isn't going to help them Sonata" Sunset chuckled. The bubbly blue siren just smiling a wide smile as Sunset just rolled her eyes.

Despite arriving on time the line at Gustav's was still fairly long. Some of the people the sisters recognized from CHS or walking around town, many they did not, but no one they knew directly was there, so that did ease their tension abit.

"You know Aria, i'm still a bit surprised this is what you chose" Adagio stated. "I would have expected a punk rock concert or a crazy night on the town" Adagio teased.

"Yea. well-yea know, i'm just-full of surprises I guess" Aria nervously stuttered.

"Indeed you are. Indeed you are" Adagio agreed as the two slowly inched closer to the MaƮtre d'hotel at the front.

Shortly after confirming their reservation, and mentioning they were friends of Rarity the two were taken to their seat, a small candlelit table for two in the upper back part of the restaurant nicely snuggled by the fire place and two medium sized oval windows meaning they could see the beautiful stars in the night sky.

"Well, this is nice and private too" Adagio sang noticing that the few other seats in the area were empty.

"But of course. Mr. Gustav would not dare disappoint friends of Rarity" The waiter smiled. "It was her ingenuity that prevented his own daughter Gilda from having a bad date some time back, and a Gustav always repays their debts!" The waiter smiled. "Now would you like for me to pour you both some wine? On the house of course." The waiter asked still giving off a gentlemanly smile.

"Hehe, sure, why not" Adagio smiled in reply. "How about you Aria?" She asked looking over at her date.

"Oh, ah yea-sure" Aria blushed nodding her head in agreement.

"He, We-We Mesdemoiselles" The waiter replied as he slowly poured the red wine into two glasses giving one to each siren and then promising he would be back in roughly ten minutes or so to take their order.

"Well sis, here's to you" Adagio smiled as she raised her glass, Aria nervously responding and raising her's in kind until the two klanged together "Ch-Cheers' she mumbled before returning the glass towards her and taking a sip.

an awkward silence surrounded the otherwise romantic scene as Adagio looked at her sister who just kept looking down at her wine glass and blushing. Adagio had to admit this aggravated her somewhat. Not that either her dates with Juniper or Trixie had been perfect but they had at least engaged in proper conversation with her. Adagio just put down her wine glass and let out a sigh.

"So, want to call this off..." Adagio sternly asked her sister.

"N-no, No I...it's just" Aria fumbled.

"It's just what?" Adagio asked getting rather perturbed at Aria by this point.

"I-I guess I just don't know what to do" Aria bashfully admitted.

"Come again?" Adagio asked, still rather unsatisfied.

"I mean, I can't believe you actually agreed to this, Taking me somewhere nice like this, not just as a friend or a sister, but an actual date, even though if anyone who knew us saw us here, the rumors they could spread." Aria explained a sign of concern and regret growing on her face.

Adagio just let out another deep sigh "That's the problem with you Aria, you worry so much about the bad things that could happen to Sonata or I that you just can't enjoy life" Adagio huffed. "Really, you've gotta lighten-up sis, it took a lot of last minute string pulling from our friends to get this night to happen, the least you could do was enjoy it" Adagio playfully scolded.

"Yea, I know-i'm sorry-and you're right, this-this was what I wanted, I shouldn't feel bad about that, thank you si-no-Adagio." Aria smiled at her date, Adagio Hhnnnging a bit and almost choking on the wine at the cute sight. the two just looking at each other and laughing as the waiter returned to take their orders and fill their glasses back-up.

As the two girls waited for their food they decided to do the only thing a couple could do at a place like this, what Adagio had hoped Aria would do from the start, they talked.

"So, Aria-what do you really think of this world. What do you think of our friends?" Adagio asked as she slowly stirred her wine glass.

Aria just looked at Adagio and let out a small moan "Well I mean, I guess I like having hands instead of hooves, but I do miss my tail-fins" Aria nervously chuckled. "I think it sucks you and Sonata got such beautiful bodies and I got stuck being the runt" She pouted as she continued. "As for our friends, I dunno-we've never really had friends, not even back in Equestria or Fantasia, all we've ever had was each other....so having friends, it feels...odd, I-I don't really know if i'll ever get used to it" Aria admitted as she hung her head " Was that a bad answer? A-are you mad at me?" She nervously asked as she looked back-up at Adagio with longing eyes.

Adagio just laughed. "No, not at all dear Aria, infact I think that is a perfectly suitable answer." Adagio smiled. "The truth is I miss it too, I miss being able to swim freely in both the sea and sky, I miss our original magic, our music and its powers, I won't deny that" Adagio sighed giving a melancholic expression "But at the same time, there's something about this world, it's so fascinating, so different from our homeland but at the same time in some ways so similar, I feel that maybe, just maybe we were supposed to end-up here." Adagio smiled at her sister.

"Ugg, you've been spending way to much time with Sunset Shimmer, that was way sappy!" Aria playfully mocked.

"Oh, like you're one to talk about sappy, Ms. Goth Lolita" Adagio laughed pointing at her sister's adorable outfit.

"Well, i-it's all Rarity had in my size!" Aria stated attempting to make an excuse.

"Sure, sure-it's not like you secretly have a desire to be a cute lil doll or anything" Adagio continued to tease

"Oh you're the worst!" Aria pouted.

"Hehe, I know-but that's why you love me!" Adagio devilishly smiled.

"He-Maybe" Aria playfully replied.

Before the two girls could continue their banter however the garcon came with their food and the two decided to dig in.

The stars in the night sky shown bright as the two girls walked through the park, Aria's arm wrapped around Adagio's as they strolled along taking in the beauty of the night sky, the warmth of summer still lingering despite the sun long since gone to bed. "It's beautiful isn't it" Adagio smiled looking up at the heavens.

"Yea, almost as good as the sky's back above the south seas" Aria smiled back as she looked up at Adagio, the girls beauty even more prominent in the moonlight. Both continuing to take in the sights around them until they reached their favorite bench in the middle of the park and set down.

"Thaks for this" Aria softly smiled as she laid her head on Adagio's shoulder. "I know you all probably still think i'm a weirdo, but-I appreciate you putting up with me, even if it's just for tonight." Aria replied as she did her best to restrain a sudden feeling of sadness inside. Adagio noticing however that something was wrong.

"Aria? Whats wrong?" Adagio asked rather concerned.

"I-it's just" Aria began to sob "I-I know this is wrong, I know feeling the way I do about you is wrong, and I know you'll never love me back b-but I ca-can't help it" Aria continued to sob.

"Oh, Aria-sweetie" Adagio empathetically sighed as she took the smaller siren's hand and held it up to her heart, Aria unsure of what to make of this. "Aria, I love you and Sonata with all of my heart, that will always be true." Adagio reassured her. "Now my love may not be the kind you want, but that does not make it any less genuine Aria Blaze. You and Sonata are my sisters and you are both so very precious to me, I will always be there for you no matter what, I promise." Adagio smiled looking straight at Aria. The siren now sobbing even more, though there now seemed to be joy mixed in with the sorrow.

"I-I-T-thank you" Aria blubbed. "So-so I-is it OK if i'm a bit greedy, a bit selfish-just for tonight?" Aria muttered between tears "Y-you-won't hate me f-for it!?" Aria asked as tears continued to flow.

Adagio just softly smiled at the girl. "Not at all sis, not at all"

Aria just looked up at her leader whom she so admired and as their eyes meet she couldn't help it and she leaned in for a deep loving kiss. At first this caught Adagio by surprise and she was tempted to scold her sister, but she knew this was Aria's night and just this once she would allow this, as long as Aria now understood this would never become something that would become common place, no matter how much Adagio cared for either her or Sonata.

All of a sudden though a surge of energy rushed through Adagio's body and her gem began to glow red once more as she panicked and pushed Aria back.

"S-sis!? Whats wrong!?" Aria asked in a panic looking up at Adagio.

"I-I don't know-b-but Aria-l-listen to me, you need to run, NOW!" Adagio warned her beloved sister.

"No-no way i'd never leave you alone!" Aria stated as she watched the red energy consume her sister.

"Hehe-Good to know!" A voice boomed from Adagio's body somewhat deeper and scratchier then her own as her eyes glowed red and everything was surrounded by a blinding flash of light.

After the bright light dissipated Aria looked-up and couldn't believe what she saw. There on the ground set Adagio unconscious, the color almost drained from her skin and hair. And infront of her stood... Another Adagio? Or something very close to her sister, though this other Adagio had much shorter hair, her outfit a biker jacket with a t-shirt underneath that read "One Bad Bitch" black leather pants and shiny silver tennis shoes at the bottom. If the sight wasn't so confusing and randomly terrifying Aria would probably find it ridiculous.

"Who-wh-what are you!?" Aria asked rather confused.

"hehehehe....Now, isn't that a silly question to ask one's new sister?" The Adagio-esque girl laughed maniacally as all Aria could do was stare at the faux-Adagio in horror, too scared to move, and still unsure what the hell had just happened!
