Chapter 6: The Princess of...

Author's Notes:

I admit, the last chapter was kind of bland and a little rushed. I hope that this one is better.

I had half an hour to prepare for the biggest moment in my life, next to the coronation. I put on the other ‘casual’ dress Rarity gave me, but the next thing I knew, I was back in Rarity’s room, getting measured once more and getting fabric in different places. I was concerned for her horn’s overuse but she seemed fine to me. Somehow, she finished an outfit that could rival my coronation dress, in twenty minutes. It was a light blue that’s glittered at every turn with soft cotton at the end to represent fluffy clouds. I blended in with the morning sky, as if I was a rare but I was still in there.

I smiled, “Thanks Rares.”

Rarity dabbed her eyes with a handkerchief, “This is officially one of my best works under twenty minutes. I can’t wait to see you.” There was a knock on the door, signaling the fact that the celebration was going to begin. I flew to the place I was instructed to by Celestia, thanking Rarity in my mind for making this dress easy to fly in.

Celestia looked at me and nodded in approval, “That dress is fantastic. Your designer did a great job doing this in under thirty minutes. Talking about time, it’s starting.” I nodded while hearing the trumpets blare. Celestia walked out, with the other princesses besides myself and made a speech that I barely heard.

She finally said, “Please welcome once more, Princess Rainbow Dash!” The crowd was thunderous, stomping their hooves. I walked out, smiling at evwrypony and waving a hoof.

I spoke in my princess voice, “Thank you for coming. I am pleased to announce that I am now officially... Rainbow Dash, Princess of the Skies!” That meant that all the Pegasi were in my rule, but unicorns and earth ponies still had to respect me and listen to me. Also, by giving myself this official title, it meant that I would harness all the power of weather making magic from the unicorns, making them incapable of changing the weather, not that they could change it. It’s just like the sun that Celestia controlled. Which other unicorn (not alicorn), was able to control it? None of them. I flew up, creating a Sonic Rainboom and dazzling the crowds. They stared in wonder at my feat as I landed back on the balcony. Meanwhile, the other princesses were staring at me in shock, as if wondering why I wanted to ‘stoop as low as the Pegasi’. Maybe it’s because the Pegasi needed somepony who actually would solve their problems? I spotted the CMC in the crowd and saw my honorary sister cheering along with my parents. Now, the Pegasi would come to me for their problems and would actually have a chance of being solved, instead of being dismissed.

I said, after the Pegasi stopped cheering, which was a while, “I will be in Cloudsdale, living in a palace.” Just then, a beam of rainbow shot out to Cloudsdale and constructed a palace somehow. Maybe the space Luna was talking about did it in order to recognize me as a princess.

Twilight stepped forwards, “All hail Princess Rainbow Dash, the princess of the Skies!” The earth ponies and the unicorns were conflicted but stomped their hooves in respect. The Pegasi, as I could tell, were enthusiastic and cheered for me a lot.

Luna stepped forwards, “Let the party begin!” The ponies danced around while the Pegasi were doing loops. It was all under the clear sky.

Meanwhile, Twilight looked at me, “Cloudsdale is over Ponyville. I guess that I won’t need to worry about you never seeing me again.” Twilight was wearing a dark purple dress that had stars sewn into it.

I rolled my eyes, “You never had to worry in the first place. Say, when are we going to get back to Ponyville or Cloudsville anyways?”

“Right after this party. Your personal guards, and your selected ponies for jobs will go too. I probably should talk to Starlight about a few magical spells I discovered but it looks like she is pretty busy over there.” I followed Twilight's gaze to see Starlight and Sunburst laughing with one another, seemingly content. I wasn't really into the romantic stuff though so I just rolled my eyes and looked away.

Twilight nudged me and whispered, "Rainbow, look, I'm sorry if I hurt you when I told you about the bits."

I admitted to her, "That is completely unfair. I mean, unicorns could just make money appear."

Twilight sighed, "You must understand that unicorns are superior races when it comes down to that. That's why we could do magic. No offense, princess of the skies.

To restate what Twilight was saying, she was saying, 'I'm sorry for keeping a secret from you since you were a lowly Pegasus before but you must understand that unicorns are better than you truly are. Oh, by the way, your previous race that you were born as was the lowest race. Also, no offense, princess of the lowest race.' Well, thanks a lot Twi.

I retorted, "Actually, I thought that Celestial made all races equal."

Twilight rolled her eyes, "Rainbow, you must understand that unicorns are most superior of the three basic races since we have magic, unlike any other race. Unicorns, besides alicorns, are the most powerful ones. Alicorns are considered as a combination so it isn't in the basic types."

I sighed and turned away, "Do you know why I chose to be the princess of the skies?"

"Why?"

"Because I know how they feel and I actually understand them in a way no other princess does."

"It's just the ways things are."

"And I intend to change it." Twilight sighed before flying off to join some of the others. I looked around Flying down to enjoy some of the delicious cakes that Pinkie made. Thank Celestia that there weren't any pies! I used my wing to slide a plate onto my hoof before digging in. When I finished the slice, I saw that just about every pony was staring at me. I ignored them before recycling the paper plate out.

After the ceremony, Twilight trotted to me, "It's time to get back to Ponyville. Well, Cloudsdale in your case. Let's go on the train."

"Sure." We walked to the train and sat down, chatting with our friends while avoiding contact with one another. It was hard, yet satisfying at the same time.

The conductor said over the announcements, "We are arriving in Ponyville." The train stopped and we all got off.

I turned to Rarity, Applejack, and Pinkie, "Girls, I know that you can't walk on clouds but maybe I could do something about that." Twilight rolled her eyes and blasted a spell at them that I assumed would let them walk on clouds. I dragged a cloud down and instructed Applejack to step on it. Applejack stepped through it instead. Twilight stared at the sight before shaking her head as if it was a hallucination.

I turned to Twilight, "I'm the princess of the skies. Non Pegasi need my blessing or something like that to enter through. I, Rainbow, give Applejack, Pinkie Pie, my personal guards, Moondancer, and Rarity the ability to walk on clouds." I pushed the cloud towards Applejack again and she tenderly tried out a step and to her shock, her hoof didn't go through the cloud.

Twilight blinked, "Well... I should probably go now. The guards would take your items to your palace sooner or later. See you."

"See you. Let's go everypony." The blessed ponies all followed the cloud staircase to my big and beautiful palace. I opened the doors and somehow, I managed to memorize the castle. It must've been the same to Twilight since she seemed to know the castle under a day. I gave all of them various rooms to suit their nature, such as a partially sewing room for Rarity.

Cloud Chaser walked in, bowing, "Princess Rainbow, I have started my job and I have a few ponies that want to talk to you. Here are the papers. Please tell me which to accept and which to reject so I could send them letters replying." I took the papers in my mouth, nodding at Cloud Chaser to sit on the floor. I sat on the floor too and I began opening them with my mouth. It wasn't a few ponies that wanted to talk to me. It seemed like half of Equestria wanted to.

I called for Moondancer and she trotted next to me, her quill already in position.

I read the first letter, "Dear Princess Rainbow, I am the mayor of Cloudsdale. I had found a acceptance letter for meeting with you yet I understand why you didn't make it. Despite that, I still want to talk to you about some urgent business. Would tomorrow at 9 in the afternoon be alright? From, the mayor." I tossed the letter to the acceptance bin that Cloud Chaser had dragged over and Moondancer wrote it down.

The second letter read, "Dear Rainbow, I understand that you're kind of busy but I think that we should have picnic with the others. They already agreed although Rarity, Applejack, and Pinkie will ask you tomorrow. It is around 1 in the afternoon. Also, I need to give you a few books on various topics, so you should probably go too. From, Twilight."

I nodded at Moondancer before writing with my mouth, 'Sounds great. I'll be there.' I gave it to Cloud Chaser, who understood me and flew away with the letter in his mouth.

I took the third letter, "Princess Rainbow, This is the Wonderbolts. We are wondering if you could come and talk about it, so better Pegasi are willing to join. Spitfire." I didn't think that I could face the Wonderbolts yet, and they wanted me as an advertisement. Nope, I'm not doing that. I threw it into the reject bin. Cloud Chaser came back and sat down. I continued to sort out the letters in the way I wanted. I dismissed them and went to my own room, taking the positions out. One of the positions caught my eye. Personal Army. Right, I needed an army just in case something fights and I needed something of my own. What should I call them though? Celestia's were the Wonderbolts and the Guards. Luna's were the Shadowbolts and wasn't entrusted to any other guards. Twilight never talked to us about this and Cadence had the Crystal Guards. I needed a really dark and scary name. Maybe the first word could be Dark. Dark what though? Dark... Dark.... Dark Powers? Nah, too weird. Wait... My army would be mostly consisted of Pegasi and most of them would have wings. Dark Wings? Ehh... Better than Dark Powers, which would suit unicorns more. Maybe that'll be my unicorn army. Now, earth ponies. Dark... Guards? I couldn't really think of a super awesome name for them so I guessed that Dark Guards would work.

I laid on my bed as I was thinking. Well, I wouldn't want them to be a spy or anything. They must join under their own will and be loyal. Maybe there's a unicornish way to do that. Yes, I love making up words. Anyways, maybe I'll ask if I could borrow books about magic and return them afterwards. That was worth a try in my books, although it would be a headache to actually learn all of them. I closed my eyes and slept in a deep sleep.

I woke up at first light, thinking of Wonderbolt practice but then, I realized that I wasn't one of them anymore. I wanted to seethe at them but I didn't think that it would be polite to do that. I sighed before I realized that I didn't need to wear a dress, as I'm not in Canterlot. Besides, Twilight never wore a dress in Ponyville so why should I be any different? I flew to the dining room before seeing Moondancer drinking some coffee in there.

Moondancer looked up and hastily bowed, "Good morning Princess."

I sighed, "Moondancer, please don't bow every single time. You're my friend as well as having a job and I don't think that there's need to bow. Same goes to Cloud Chaser." I looked at Cloud, who was sheepishly smiling, bowing at the doors of the dining room.

Cloud Chaser sat down, "Okay, Prin-"

"And none of the Princess stuff."

"Of course, Prin-I mean Rainbow. You're really laid back."

I chuckled, "Thanks." I used my wings to fly and grab some bagels and ate them. The other two did the same. Pinkie, Applejack, and Rarity were going to have some time to themselves. Besides, Pinkie always wanted to make Ponyville smile and I hated to think what would happen to Ponyville if she disappeared. Same went to Rarity and Applejack, who had their own place in Ponyville.

Moondancer looked at her list, "We have 5 minutes before the weather factory. Let's get going." I sighed before nodding.

I looked at both of them, "Cloud Chaser, you need to collect message and what not. Moondancer, let's go."

"I can't fly."

"I'll push you on a cloud." Pretending to not hear her protests, I set her on a cloud and flew to the weather factory, with her hanging on in fear. I didn't go super fast like a normally would've, since I didn't want her to fall. We finally arrived there and she climbed off.

Moondancer took a deep breath, "Never again."
