Chapter 20: It begins

It begins

Thunder erupted from the sky like lava from a volcano as Dillan walked down the halls of Canterlot castle. His footsteps echoing as he stared down at his feet, a million thoughts filling his skull. "How am I gonna help the Dragons for food, how am I gonna help the ponies under the water without revealing I could help the whole time… I don't want them becoming dependent on me…"

Dillan was so lost in thought that he didn't notice sunset meadows had walked up beside him until she spoke up. She tries to get his attention but he's so deep in thought that her voice goes in one ear and out the other, getting annoyed she lightly punches his hip. “Ahem!”

"Huh?" Dillan asked, blinking down at her. "Oh miss meadows, I'm sorry I was lost in thought about everything that's going on. What can I help you with?" He asked with a small smile.

She sighs and shakes her head. “Princess Ceelstia wishes to speak to you, she is in her office.”

Dillan nods a bit. "alright, um where is that again?"

She sighs and points at the office right next to him. “Right here sir Dillan.”

Dillan looked at the door with a chuckle. "Oh, crap I guess I'm really out of it." Dillan knocked on the door, opening a few seconds after as he looked at the princess. "You wanted to talk to me?"

Celestia looks up from some paperwork. “Ah Dillan yes, please come in, tea?” She offered.

"If it's not too much trouble. Could I get a slice of lemon please?" He asked with a smile as he sat down across from her.

Celestia nods and lit her horn for a moment. “It will be here soon, snacks?”

"No thank you, I'm hoping the tea will help me clear my head about the flooding and what to do to help the Dragons." Dillan sighs.

“I see, well let’s start this meeting.” Celestia sighs and sets the paperwork down. “Why don’t you help catch me up on what has happened.”

Dillan rubs his chin. "I swear I asked Meadows to inform you of everything that happened while you were gone."

“She did, I just want to make sure she didn’t forget anything. You can also start with telling me what you plan to do with each problem.” Celestia said.

Dillan nods slowly. "Well, I did day court, Blue blood caused me some trouble so I stripped him of his power and title until you say so, he got arrested for attacking me. I met with naysayers and ugh." He said, shaking his head. "Then I met with Ember and she passed out, she's currently in the infirmary."

Celestia sighs and rubs her temples. “Oh Blue… I will talk with him, and why did Ember pass out?”

"Exhaustion." Dillan said, rubbing his forehead. "I'm planning on going to the dragonlands and helping with food and stuff."

Celestia nods and frowns. “Yes, with how volcanic their lands are, they probably do not have that much food left.”

"I do have my petrosapien transformation aka diamond head, who can make gems." Dillan said rubbing his chin. "Maybe that can help them on food for a while."

“Gems are only part of their diet, they will also need other foods. Gems are more like fruits to them, it still isn’t healthy for them to live off of just gems.” Ceelstia told Dillan.

Dillan hummed. "Well then I'll need to find a good island in the middle of everywhere to grow food that we can all share, not just us and the dragons. But the hippogriffs, yaks, changelings, and so on."

“How are the other races?” Celestia asked.

"Not sure, I've only been approached by the dragons. But as I told the naysayer, all but the kyrin and changelings have mountainous homes" Dillan said, rubbing his head.

“I see. So what else has happened?” She asked as some ponies came in with tea.

Dillan smiles and takes a sip of the tea. "Well, other than meeting another Displaced, the red dinosaur you saw when you got back." He said chuckling. "Not much, other than your sister messing with me."

Celestia giggles. “Oh? How has my sister been messing with you?”

"It was once, I picked up Ember to take her to the infirmary and Luna said something about me having my hand on her butt." Dillan said, chuckling. "Like I did it on purpose."

Celestia got a smirk and sipped her tea. “Oh i see, I don’t suppose you have feelings for this dragoness? Maybe I should send a letter to Cadence to help you out.”

Dillan slams his head on the table with a sigh. "You realize I just met her right? That and… I'm still messed up about my family and… my…"

Celestia sighs and wraps a wing around him. “I am sorry for the teasing but I think it would be healthy to start moving on, you can keep them in your heart, but you should open yourself up and find love again.”

Dillan turned his head to the side, looking away from her. "I know… but… with everything that's going on. I don't think I can."

Celestia tightens the wing hug. “Trust me, I have lived for a long time. Now is exactly the time to try to find love. If you feel a connection with someone or in this case some Dragoness, it's best to explore that. It may or may not work but that's OK you just have to take life one step at a time.”

Dillan sighs. "Yeah… maybe…"

Celestia smiles and playfully pushes Dillan. “Besides between you, me and Luna, I'm pretty sure you'll be the first one of us to have children and I can't wait to play with your foals.” She said with a giggle.

Dillan laughs and sits back. "You act like we've known each other for decades."

Celestia giggles and smiles. “Maybe not but it feels like it.”

Dillan smiles softly and nods, before sunset meadows walked in. "Excuse me your majesty, but dragon lord ember is awake."

“Alright, thank you.” Ceelstia said then she smirks at Dillan. “Let's go check on your marefriend.”

The shapeshifter deadpans and shakes his head, before getting up. "Again, just met her."

Celestia gets up and starts to follow him. “Oh come now, let this old mare have her fun.” She said with a giggle and a spring in her trot.

Dillan shakes his head with a chuckle. "Just don't say it around her, we don't want to piss her off."

Celestia nods and sighs. “Yes, I am not foolish to upset a foreign representative.” The two walk down the hall to the medical wing.

Dillan smirks. "Hey IF something does happen between us at least you'd get to say I told you so."

Celestia smirks and pokes Dillan with her wing. “So you admit there’s a chance.”

"I said if." Dillan chuckled as they knocked on the medical wind door and walked in. "Hello nurse, is Ember ok to talk?" Dillan asked the unicorn nurse with an orange mane and black coat.

"Yes sir, she's just over here." He said leading them to the room Ember was in.

She was sitting up and drinking some water but once she sees Dillan she slams the cup down and points at him. “What did you do to me?”

Dillan shakes his head with a small smirk. "Why does everyone assume I did something? You passed out from exhaustion, and Malnutrition."

Ember glares at him for a bit before looking away. “Hmm, whatever, when can I get out of this ...soft...bed, these ponies won’t let me.”

Dillan looked at Celestia. "Any idea?"

Celestia shakes her head. “I would not know, best ask the nurse.”

Dillan nodded and walked back to the nurse. "How long until Ember can leave?"

"She can go now, we just needed to make sure she was completely ok. I just got the results back." The nurse said smiling as Dillan walked back to Embers room again.

"He said you can leave now." He said.

“Finally!” She throws the sheets off and gets up. “I need to get back before some stone head steals my saved up food.”

"You saved up food while your people went hungry?" Dillan asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Don’t be stupid, I save half my food each day for an emergency.” Ember said, getting in Dillain’s face.

"Fine, fine." Dillan said, rolling his eyes.

Ember backs off and crosses her arms. “Is there anything else you need to tell me or can I finally leave?”

"Actually yes I do need to tell you something." Dillan said before smirking playfully at her. "I'm coming with you to the dragonlands."

“Ugh fine, but I am not carrying you!” Ember said, pointing a claw at Dillan.

Dillan laughs as he pops up his ultimatrix, flipping through the scans quickly much to embers confusion. However once the hologram stopped on a dragon, Dillan pushed it down and a bright blue light filled the room. Once it died down, Ember's eyes widened at a tall black dragon with light blue frills going down his back and two large wings. Her eyes glanced quickly at his abs and muscular build before she looked back at his eyes, being golden slits that made her gulp a little.

“You are a dragon?” She asked confused and slightly turned on.

Dillan chuckles. "I'm a dragon, pony, hyppogrif, I could be a griffon, a minitor, a changeling… the race. I'm already classified as a changeling technically."

Ember looks Dillan over once more before huffing and walking past him. “Whatever.”

Dillan shrugged at Celestia before walking behind Ember on their way out of the infirmary, waving goodbye to the princess before they left the room. "Why'd you sound so excited about me being a dragon?" He asked Ember with a smirk.

Ember crosses her arms and looks away from Dillan. “I was just surprised.” What Dillan couldn’t see was the light blush on her face.

Ember heard a small hum coming from Dillan before she glanced back at him and saw him smiling at her. "Alright then, I guess it can be surprising for the first time you see the transformation process."

She rolls her eyes and opens a window. “Let's just get going already, and don’t start complaining that you're tired after a few hours.”

Dillan smirks and dives out if the window, spinning in the air as he flys Infront of the sun spreading his wings wide. "Same to you princess."

Ember growls and jumps out after him, spreading her wings and flies after him. “The last time I'm not a princess!”

Dillan chuckles and slows down to fly next to her, smiling at her. "I know that dragon lord Ember, I said it as a term of endearment. My father taught me to always treat all women as princesses." He said before smirking at her. "Even if they can kick my ass like you."

“Well don’t! Or I will.” Ember said, huffing. Then she flaps her wings and moves ahead.

Dillan shrugs and flaps his wings to catch up withcatch up with her a bit. "So how bad is it in the dragonlands? I'm sure fire breathing dragons and water don't mix very well."

Ember frowns. “Some are fine, they just stay on the mountains but others who aren’t strong enough have to swim. And without the heat from the volcanoes we can't hatch any of our eggs, meaning if the flooding doesn’t go away, dragons will eventually die out.”

Dillan frowns and hums. "Well what if we find an active volcano and divert the lava into a pool so you can hatch the eggs there? Or I could dig down far enough on your islands to have lava spout up like a gyzer."

“Then there would be less land to sleep on dumbass.” She said as if it was obvious.

Dillan shakes his head. "No there wouldn't, the lava would cool when it hits the water and it would make more land."

She looks at him. “How is that possible? Lava is a liquid.”

Dillan stops in mid air and looks at her. "Wait do you not know how lava is made?"

She shrugs. “It is hot red stuff from underground, what’s to know?”

"How about the fact that it's super heated and molten rock?" Dillan chuckles.

“Huh, how does a rock turn into lava just by getting hot?” Ember asked passing Dillan.

Dillan follows her again. "Because anything that gets hot enough can become a liquid. Even metal. I'll show you." He said flying ahead and landing on an island, waving her down.

Ember sighs and lands next to him. “We don’t have time for a science lesson nerd.”

Dillan looks at her. "Ok, one call me that again and I won't help your people. Two I'm not just demonstrating what I was talking about, this island is half way between the dragon lands and canterlot. Not only that but it's in the dead center of every major race that is on this planet, which means this is the perfect place to grow food for all the races."

She crosses her arms and frowns. “How do you know all that?”

Dillan smiles. " You probably wouldn't believe me if I told you." She narrows her eyes at him but says nothing, until Dillan sighs and gives in. "Fine, one of my transformations has the ability to detect and sense life energy. Each race life energy is different, so after some training in this form I'm able to detect it as well."

“Sounds like a ton of crap but whatever, just get on with whatever you're doing.” Ember said.

Dillan chuckles as he walks to the center of the rocky deserted island. "Told you that you wouldn't believe me." He said, as Ember watched a white energy form around him as he stared at her with a toothy grin Making her heart beat faster before he screamed and the white energy turned red and the wind blew and whipped up rocks as the ground shook.

She covers her face with her claw blocking the wind. “What the hell?!”

Dillan rose his hands into the sky, before slamming them down onto the ground. The impact forced the ground to split open like an orange before gallons of lava erupted from it poring into the sea as it cooled making more land and melting away the rocky island making it smooth.

“Whoa!” She flaps her wings and gets into the air.

After a few moments Dillan flys out of the lava and spins getting all the extra molten rock off of him.

Ember watches as the land starts to grow slowly outward. “Wow, who knew such a small guy could do that?”

Dillan chuckles and flys over to her. "Oh I can do a lot more than that."

She blushes lightly before crossing her arms and looks away from him. “Hmph how do you plan on making food on a hot rock?”

"I'm going to cool it off, I have the power to turn into the same species as the ice alien that did all this. Though thanks to my transformation method I can control the abilities better than that one." He said.

Ember’s eyes widened. “You can turn into that monster!?”

"The same species, I scanned it's DNA when I fought it. And it wasn't a monster, it was only following what it's creator, it's father, told it to do." He said sadly. "A father that then betrayed and tried to kill it."

Ember frowns and thinks about what Dillan said. “That...makes me feel odd. Stop confusing me!”

"I'm betting it makes you feel sorry for it, it's whole life was just to destroy… but thanks to me and Azimuth. The one that created my watch, we found it a good home on a distant planet." He said.

Ember lands and looks down. “Maybe I do feel sorry for it, but I am not weak!”

"Never said you were." Dillan said landing as well, before turning into his iccicleann scan. "It takes a lot more straight to listen and understand others than it does to judge them by first appearances." He said blasting the island as it turned to soft fertile soil.

Ember watches as the hot hard rock soon becomes ready for planting and her eyes widen at the effect. “Wow, too bad that thing was raised evil.”

"Yeah, but thanks to Azimuth and myself we're trying to teach it better. Along with it's new neighbors." He said, kneeling down as he checks the soil.

“Neighbors? Who would want to live next to a walking ice storm?” Ember asked.

"Not next to." Dillan chuckles. "In order to help beat the iccicleann, azimuth created a species of alien that was the exact opposite of them. The magmalian, the iccicleann and it's new family live on the frozen surface of the planet, while the magmalians live in the center of the planet. Literally in the lava." Dillan said as he walked a bit farther.

“That sounds a bit odd, even dragons can’t stay in lava forever.” Ember followed Dillan.

"Yeah but the magmalians are literally made of lava." Dillan said, turning into his scan of the magmalian. "See?"

“I see, kinda odd looking but whatever, so what now? Do you order the ponies to come grow food for everyone?” Ember asked.

"Nope, I need to Expand the island more before growing the food. Once it's big enough then I'll grow the food myself." He said.

Ember looks at the water around them before saying. “Hey, wasn’t this a mountain top before? What happens once all the water is gone?”

Dillan looked out over the sea. "To be honest, I'm not sure if It will be gone… it's just too much. But if we can get it gone, the mountain itself is also expanding. The mountain under here also has lava flowing out when I hit it, so there's cracks making it become bigger to support the weight of the top."

“Well that’s good, would be a shame if this large island fell down and crushed a town after all the water-“ she stops then stares at Dillan. “What do you mean you don’t know if the water will be gone!?”

Dillan sighs sadly and sits down, looking over the sea. "Some things are just too big of a problem to fix…"

“Bull shit! Can’t you use that watch of yours, or the ponies use those element thingies?!” Ember yells at him.

"I already tried a few of my transformations that could help but couldn't. One transformation creates magical orbs that can grant any wish, but there's too much water for them. Another one if I tried to use it I'd be stuck like that… forever… frozen." He said looking away.

Ember sighs and looks down at the water. “So this is how the world will be forever?”

"Who knows, forever is a long time. And the one that created my watch is looking for a solution, but the universe is huge… who knows how long that could take." He said rubbing his head as the wind began picking up a little.

Ember just sighs and crosses her arms.

Dillan stands up as a huge gust of wind blew Ember tiff her feet when she wasn't expecting it, pushing her into Dillan's arms as thunder sounded in the distance. Turning his head Dillan saw massive storm clouds rolling in the direction they had come from, and heading to them quickly. "We'd better find a place to lay low until the storms over."

Ember shakes a little before pushing Dillan away. “Yeah sure whatever, something as soft as you couldn’t handle such a…big…thunder..storm.”

Dillan glances at her and smiles softly. "Yeah your right, let's get inside my emergency house." He said turning into a namekian, he reached inside the brown bag he had on his waist that held the dragon balls and pulled out a small capsule. Clicking the top dillan threw it into the center of the Island as thunder screamed through the area before lightning lit up the sky. A small house popping into existence Infront of them before wind, rain, and sea water began bombarding the Island.

“What kind of magic was that!” Ember yelled in surprise.

"Get inside!" Dillan said pushing her inside. "It wasn't magic, it's technology from another dimension, the same dimension that green transformation is from."

Ember moves away from Dillan and shakes herself dry. “Whatever, what is there to do till we… you can fly again.”

"Well I have a TV and movies from ben tennyson." Dillan said walking over to a couch Infront of a TV.

“What is a Teevee?” Ember asked confused.

"A box that has moving pictures and voices on it." He said, turning on the movie tremors. "It's entertainment."

Ember watches the tv with mistrust for a moment but eventually sits down and watches. “What are those things?” She asked pointing at the graboid. “They remind me of a tasselworm.”

Dillan laughs. "Kinda, they're called graboids, their ancient subterranean worms that have been around since before the dinosaurs."

She crosses her arms. “They don’t look so tough.”

"Just wait, they have an evolution cycle similar to a caterpillar." Dillan said. "In the second movie the second form is shown, in the third the third form."

She huffs and sits back to watch.

Dillan tries not to laugh as she jumps when a loud thunder sounds out as a graboids was killed by a bomb.

She looks around wide eyed. “That was …um kinda loud.”

"Yeah…" Dillan said, reaching to a curtain to look outside. "It's really raining, we'll probably be here a while." He said getting up. "I'll make us something to eat, ever had spaghetti?"

“No I haven’t, what is it?” She asked looking over to him.

"The basic premise of it is noodles, tomato sauce and meat." Dillan chuckles. "I can also make garlic bread which is what most people eat with it… though now that I think about it at first glance it probably looks like intestines…"

“Sure whatever, meat sounds good.” She said as her stomach growled.

Dillan chuckles, putting a pot of water on a stove and a pan to fry up some meat as Ember watched him. Dillan walked over to a radio and clicked on a song as he started cooking, making ember smirk and giggle as he sang along.

Ember shakes her head at him as she smells the meat cooking, her stomach growling more as she walks over. “You really are a nerd.” She said but has a smile.

"Hey, good music is good music." Dillan chuckles, slowly starting to dance by stepping back and forth before grabbing Ember's hand and twirling her suddenly.

“H-hey!” She blushes as she is forced to dance but doesn’t fight back.

"Hey is for horses, not dragons." He chuckles as they dance a bit more. "Besides no need to be embarrassed or worried. No one can see."

Ember looks away but doesn't stop dancing. Dillan chuckles as he stops, finishing up the cooking. "Sorry, I figured a little fun wouldn't help pass the time."

She rubs her arm. “It…it was a little fun..but tell anyone I said that and I’ll kick your ass.”

"Ma'am yes ma'am." He said with a solute, before he put the spaghetti in a bowl and started making some garlic bread.

She rolls her eyes and goes to sit down. “Good.” She said, then adds under her breath. “It would be a shame to hurt someone as handsome as you.”

"What was that?" He asked, raising an eyebrow as he looked in the refrigerator.

She blushes more. “I didn’t say anything nerd.”

"Um alright." Dillan said as Ember smelled the garlic bread when he took it out of the oven, walking over with two bowls full of spaghetti and garlic bread, handing one to her with a fork before the second tremors came on.

She starts to eat and watch the movie. “I thought they killed all of those warm things before.”

Dillan smiles and eats as well, watching the movie as ember steals a glance at him. "They thought they did, but there were some they didn't get."

“That sucks for them, too bad none of them have wings.” She said while eating. “Mmmm this is good.”

"Thanks." Dillan smiles. "And yeah, but just wait until the shriekers come in, it's a good thing they can't fly."

“Shriekers?” She asked confused.

Dillan pauses for a moment before face palming. "Sorry, a bit of a spoiler. The second evolution of the graboid is called shriekers, you'll see why. The third form is called an ass blaster, again you'll see why. And I was wrong, it's a good thing they can't fly with the third forms on the loose." He said as Ember sees a shrieker on the screen.

“Those things are so ugly!” She flinches back.

"Oh that's only the beginning." Dillan said, as the Shrieker opens its heat sensor.

Ember looks away. “Gross! They are disgusting.”

"Oh you have no idea." Dillan said, as they continue watching the movie up until Ember sees the Shrieker multiply.

Ember covers her eyes. “Oh no no no gross I do not want to see that again!”

"Luckily that's the only time they show it." Dillan said.

She glares at Dillan. “Good if anything that gross happens again I am gonna brake something, or someone.”

Dillan smirks back playfully. "Kinky."

Ember blushes bright red and huffs looking away. “Gah, shut up!”

Dillan laughs. "I'm only playing around."

“Well your not funny.” She crosses her arms and looks away from him blushing.

"Aww don't sound too disappointed." He said playfully poking her.

She frowns at Dillan. “You are quickly losing any charm you had.”

Dillan stops and looks at her. "You think I'm charming?"

Her eyes widens and she stands up. “Oh look the storm stopped.” She walks to the door and opens it while it is still pouring outside.

Dillan pulls her back inside. "Hey relax, it's cool. You're really cute yourself just so you know."

She crosses her arms and blushes. “Say that again and I’ll pound you.”

Dillan smiles softly, and caresses her cheek gently. "Like I said, no one's here to see. I'm not one of your subjects, you can let your guard down here."

She looks away before she looks back at him. “You just want the bloodstone scepter.”

Dillan raises an eyebrow. "The what?"

She rolls her eyes and breaths some flames making a staff appear. “The one thing that makes me ruler of the dragons.”

Dillan glances at it, before pushing it away and smiling at her. "I don't care about a stone, all I care about is you." He says before blushing deeply. "I- I mean you know, you must have a lot of pressure on yourself so I figured you could use a friend."

She looks away and breaths fire on the staff disappear. “Maybe I could..”

Dillan smiles. "Wanna finish watching the movie 'princess'" he said playfully.

“Yeah..I would like that.” She sat down.

Dillan sits next to her, smiling as he resumes the movie.

Ember blushes and her wings twitch.

The young shapeshifter smiles at her and puts one leg on top of the other, resting his arm on the back of the couch around Ember.

She looks at him before looking back at the tv. "Are you ok?" Dillan asked her, looking at her. "If you want me to move my arm I can."

“N-no your fine.” She said sounding nervous.

"If your sure." He said, turning back to the movie.

“Just don’t get too handsy.” She said without moving away.

Dillan chuckles. "Back at ya."

Ember blushes and glances away, yawning a little as she leans her head on dillan's shoulder. "Don't get any ideas, I'm just tired."

Dillan smiles softly. "It's ok, if you want to go to bed I can show you to the bedroom."

Ember jumps when another thunder erupts around them, scooting closer to Dillan. "U-um n-no I'm ok."

Dillan chuckles and stands up with her, taking her to the bedroom where two single beds were waiting. "Don't worry I'm gonna be here all night."

Ember blushes and nods a bit, before climbing into one of the beds. Dillan smiled and got into the other bed, yawning as he fell asleep along with Ember.
