The dark ~Prologue~

I fumbled around in the dark looking for a wall or something to get my bearings.

When I extended my hoof to take a step it made contact with something hard and wooden, a table. It made a hollow knocking sound and I heard movement behind me.

"Damn it!" I thought. Then a groggy female voice said "Nighters? is that you?" there was the sound of a match being struck then the room was filled with a warm orange light emanating for an old oil lamp. I had wanted to slip out without waking her.

I turned and just stared at daisy for a second, her orange coat seemed amplified by the fire light and even with her blonde mane all disheveled she looked amassing. I thought of just crawling back into bed and sleeping with her.

I shook my head and rein in my thoughts. "Yea I've got guard duty, tonight its only 8 hours. I'll be back for breakfast if I'm lucky." I said. she rolled out of bed  and walked into the kitchen saying "I'll make you something, you shouldn't be sitting out in the cold with no food for 8 hours." she said tiredness lessening from her voice "I wonder why you signed up for the night shift in the first place." I grinned at her while she started making me a sandwich and hot coco. "You know why, I've always liked looking up at the stars. And besides, somepony has to do to it" I replied.

She trotted up to me and hovered the sandwich and thermos into my saddle bag, her horn giving of a feint light. As an earth pony I had always envied unicorns and pegasi. I thought life would be much easier with magic or wings but I knew there was no way I could have either.

"Well I guess I'll be heading off now." I said a tinge of sadness in my voice. She smiled apologetically and gave me a deep kiss "I'll be here when you get back." I shrugged on my white parka and some shoulder pads, scooped up my goggles, and walked up to the broken mirror in one corner of the room. I was a snow white pony with a spiky black mane with a few streaks of teal in it, my eyes looked sunken and had bags under them then I slung the heavy rifle on my back and tucked a radio in my pocket. I shook my head to wake up a bit and walked to the door, daisy walked after me. I stopped and turned to her. We kissed for a moment it was really temping to stay, but I broke the kiss and walked out the door.

I stepped out into a small town dimly lit by the moon and stars. Looking out at the night reminded me of the hate I felt for Celestia.

It started years ago everything had changed for me. My father had started teaching me about a hidden part of our history. That was when I learned the truth about the world, I was given the knowledge that Celestia had turned her back on us. She had not raised the sun for my hometown in over 200 years.

My father told me of places without snow and ice. Naturally I had been fascinated by these mysterious places, and later in my life I had traveled equestria and seen many things. But the more I saw the more I hated the princess for abandoning my family and friends.

One day the town was attacked by a dragon, it had swooped own and torched the town in under a minute. My family had died in the attack along with everyone else except for Daisy, Kriece, and me. No one ever came to help. I had to bury my father and mother when I was just a kid. Ever since then I had cursed Celestia for leaving us to die.

Without anypony to look out for the survivors we wandered around equestria. Robbing anypony we saw. We had rarely slept in the same bed twice. Eventually we had settled down in a small town like my hometown and it had been fairly peaceful.

I continued down the road and out of the city. I trudged up onto a big cliff of ice and set up my rifle for guard duty.

I sat there alone with my thoughts.

That was until I saw I dark figure in an endless sea of white snow...
