Ten Hours Later, 23:00 EST
The Ritz Carlton Hotel, New York City, United States

“And here is your single suit ma’ams,” said the human bellboy as he led them into the hotel room Rarity and Rainbow Dash had rented for their week long stay in New York City.

“If there is anything you ponies need, don’t hesitate to call the front desk.”

“Thank you very much sir,” as Rarity floated $20 out of her satchel and into the hand of the gapping human. Rarity forgot that in the human's world, magic was non-existent.

“Wow… that’s amazing,” said the bellboy as he turned and left.

“This place is suit!” said Rainbow Dash. “How did you afford all of this?”

“Despite my relatively modest life, I have accrued quite a sum of cash from my various boutiques across the country. I believe that it's okay for a girl to splurge from time to time.”

“If you want, I can pay my fair share,” said Rainbow Dash. “ I mean being a Wonderbolt pays one very generously.”

“Don’t think about it darling. You’re company is payment enough.”

“Oh, one more thing.”

“What is it, Rainbow?”

“There’s only one bed in our room.”

“Oh yeah sorry about that. I made the reservations over a month ago. At the time I was planning on sharing the room with Sweetiebelle. At the time I thought nothing of it, as we are both sisters. ”

“Oh, I don’t mind,” said Rainbow Dash. “I could simply sleep on the couch.”

“Nonsense darling. I’ve heard that the beds here are simply divine in their comfort. I wouldn’t mind sharing the bed with you at all.”

“Really?”

“Yeah,” said Rarity. “Look at the thing, it’s so big. Each of us will have a huge section to ourselves.”

“Okay then,” said Rainbow Dash as she slide underneath the covers of the queen sized bed. “Look, it’s getting late and I’m sure that we’ve got a lot planned for tomorrow morning so I’m going to go to sleep now. Feel free to hop in whenever you want.”

“I’m right behind you,” said Rarity clambering into bed beside her friend.

The two ponies then proceeded to try to fall asleep. However, despite the uber soft pillows and the soft as silk covers, neither of the ponies were able to fall asleep. Rarity, unable to fall asleep due to the sounds of the “City that never sleeps,” rolled over and looked at her friend Rainbow Dash. Much to her surprise, Rarity found the otherwise sleep loving pony wide awake.

Examining her friend, she could tell that it was worry that was keeping her awake, the gears in her head turning frantically. Being the good friend that she was, Rarity decided that it would only be appropriate if she tried to help Dashie out.

“What’s the matter Rainbow?”

“Oh, I’m just thinking about something.”

“Well obviously. We are always thinking,” said Rarity facetiously.

“I mean I’m thinking about a serious life decision I’ll have to make soon.”

This got Rarity’s attention. “What are you talking about Rainbow?”

“How would you and Sweetiebelle describe your relationship?”

Rarity was taken aback by the personal nature of that question. “Well… I would say that while we occasionally argue, we deeply love each other. Why do you ask?”

“I was an only child growing up, Rarity. I never knew what it was like to have a sister. However, whenever I’m around Scootaloo, I imagine that the bond we have with each other is what it would have been like if I had a younger sister.”

Continuing, Rainbow Dash said, “My point is this. She doesn’t have a home with parents to take care of her. She’s only known an orphanage all of her life. I want to give her the chance to have not just an older sister but also a loving mother.”

“You’re thinking of adopting her?” asked Rarity, pleasantly surprised by this information.

“Yeah, I am. I’m just scared of messing up. I’m scared of being responsible to someone else. I’m scared of being a failure,” said Rainbow Dash, her voice cracking as she struggled to keep her composure.

“There, there darling,” cooed Rarity as she hugged her friend. “I know you’re scared. But never forget this: you have a heart of gold. You always seek to help others in need. You have nothing to worry about. Just be your normal self and you’ll be a great mother to Scootaloo. Whatever you decide to do Rainbow, just know that you’ve already made a magnificent difference in that pegasus’ life for the better.

“Thank you for the kind words,” said Rainbow Dash as she embraced her friend.

“Think nothing of it darling.”

Rarity, wanting to make conversation, asked, “So have you seen any cute stallions recently in your travels around Equestria?”

“Um, not exactly.”

“Well certainly you’ve seen at least one stallion that caught your eye.”

“Well I’m not really attracted to stallions,” said Rainbow Dash.

A look of disgust took a hold of Rarity’s face. “You mean to tell me you’re not attracted to ponies, but to some animal... like a dragon,” said Rarity, not making any attempt to conceal her disapproval of interspecies relationships.

“No it’s not like that,” said Rainbow Dash. “Never mind, you wouldn’t understand.” said Dashie, clearly annoyed at her friends judgemental attitude.

“I’m sorry Rainbow for being so critical. Just tell me what’s on your mind.”

Rainbow Dash hesitated for a second, uncertain of whether or not she should trust Rarity. Against her better judgement she decided to divulge her secret.

“Look Rarity, I’ll tell you what’s on my mind, but only if you promise that what I tell you doesn’t leave this room. Can you promise me that?”

“Certainly, darling. I ‘Pinkie Promise.’”

“Ever since I was in high school I found that I wasn’t like the other mares. While other mares were starting to date stallions, I didn’t.”

Turning over to face Rarity, Rainbow Dash continued, “I never really found stallions to be that attractive.”

“What are you getting at?” said Rarity, clearly growing nervous at the direction that Rainbow Dash was taking this.

“What I’m trying to say is that I’m a lesbian, Rarity.”

Immediately, Rarity’s eyes bulged out and she moved as far away as possible on the bed, acting as if Dash had something contagious.

“That’s not normal Rainbow.”

“Look I’m not asking you to approve of me and who I like. I’m simply asking you to accept me as a friend who’s different.”

“I’m just…-”

“Disappointed? Creeped out? Which is it?” asked Rainbow Dash angered at her friend’s hysterics.

Getting defensive, Rarity said to her friend, “Look, I know you may get turned on by mares such as me, but I don’t swing that way. So stay on your half of the bed and I’ll stay on mine,” hissed her friend.

Hopping out of the bed, Rainbow Dash walked over the couch and laid down there. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep my ‘deviant’ flank over here.”

After she finally found a comfortable position to lay in, Rainbow Dash began to weep. She wept at the cruelness of her friend and the intolerance of this world. But most of all, she wept at the lack of trust her friend had for her.

Author's Notes:

I hope that this isn't too much of a long chapter.

Author's Note here: the story will gradually get more dark over time. Then again that's true with about most fanfiction's on this site.:derpytongue2:
