Chapter 2: An 80s Filled Morning

Author's Notes:

Dang it, now I want some Gobot toys. And I apologize for there not being much for this chapter, but some of this stuff here I wanted to set up for future events, I think. And I know the rule, show, don't tell. Don't worry, I'm going to make sure I put out some 'show and don't tell'.

As for the rest of the Shadowbolt girls, they were having much brighter mornings. While their real guardians were out on missions handling intergalactic fugitives, they were being watched over by some Gobot Guardians who were kind enough to look after them while they were gone.

Lemon Zest for one was being picked up by a red Gobot that converted into a blazing red hot rod, with big tires on the back, and and with the way it was arched, the back was arched up, with the front lowered to the ground.

She eagerly made a leap into the air as she skipped her way to the red car.

"Morning Lemon Zest. You ready to go?"

Lemon grinned, "Lets hit it Street Heat!"

If Street Heat could, he would have grinned to Lemon Zest but in vehicle mode it couldn't be seen. Lemon smirked as she looked at the radio system.

"Play that rockin 80s tune will ya? I'm feeling particularly... funky, today," Lemon said, making a clicking noise with her tongue.

The radio knobs turned to pick the CD that was already put into the player, and the music began to kick up.

"Oh yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about!" Lemon grinned as her head bobbed to the beat of th esong

"Lets kick the tires and light the fires!" Street Heat roared.

Street Heat's engine revved up, and a burst of flames shot out from the tailpipes on his behind, and from the sides, just near the engine that stood out like a sore thumb through the hood.

Street Heat's wheels grinded against the pavement and he sped out of the driveway, and onto the street like a maniac. This was gonna be a fun day for Lemon Zest today.

But Lemon Zest wasn't the only one with a Gobot Guardian with her. Sunny Flare had a Guardian watching over her for the day as well, a British one in fact. His name was Good Knight, and his form was of an old roadster from the 1980s.

"I appreciate the ride Good Knight, but you don't have to if you're too busy," Sunny reassured.

"Oh, I'm quite fine Ms Flare. I didn't have any other activity to perform, so I'm quite alright with performing this task at hand. After all, you cannot be late for school. And who knows? Perhaps, we'll run into some of my Guardian allies," The car said from the radio.

Sunny giggled, "Well I know Smallfoot is protecting Sour Sweet, so I can imagine you'll be running into her."

"Right, Smallfoot. Sweet little teeny-bopper," Good Knight chuckled.

Sunny's eyes widened, "Teeny-bopper? Someone's been looking into the British dictionary recently."

"She's a young little one who's always eager to check out the new age material that your world has made. And I find her an absolute sweetheart when she's with us Guardians. Always looking out for us, making sure we're okay; she's an absolute darling."

Sunny nodded, "Sounds like she would be a good person to have as a girlfriend."

"Well, you'd be surprised. She has actually dated before, but most of her dates weren't... the greatest. Blast, she even dated Crasher once, and that ended up with Pathfinder having to stay with the poor heartbroken lass because she was hurt by her. Road raging bugger...", Good Knight snarled.

"Sounds like you don't like her," Sunny gulped.

"None of us Guardians like her. Especially one particular bounty hunter that wouldn't even look out for her own safety or even give her the time of day to just relax and hang with her. But, alas we don't have to worry about her since she's not here on Earth. Now we can focus on our own lives and I for one need to worry about not ramming down any pedestrians on the way," Good Knight said quickly, urgently trying to keep himself in the same lane as the other cars.

Sunny just sat back in her seat, and allowed the Guardian to perform the driving for her. It would probably be best not to distract the driver.

In another part of town, Sugarcoat was being driven in the car form of the Guardian Sparky. Sparky was a female Guardian, and of course like the other Guardians that were watching over the Shadowbolt girls, had nothing else to do and their real guardians were out of town for the time being so they decided to look over them for the week.

"So... you excited?" Sparky asked.

Sugarcoat looked down at the steering wheel that always blinked lights whenever Sparky spoke.

"Excited for what?" Sugarcoat bluntly asked.

"Well... its Friday. I know most of the humans on this planet get excited for whenever its Friday," Sparky replied sounding unsure.

"You're not wrong," Sugarcoat said, staring away from the wheel and out the window.

"But if its Friday, how come--"

"I don't show as much as excitement as some of my other classmates, and friends Sparky. They can go crazy all they want, but I refuse to act like a wild animal."

Sparky's radio went dead silent. Sugarcoat looked towards her radio system.

"Are you malfunctioning, or are not saying anything?"

"No, its just... well, you, uh... Lets just get you to school, I don't want you to be late," Sparky replied as she urgently picked up speed.

In another part of the busy big town, Indigo was riding on the motorcycle form of another Gobot Guardian. His name was Night Ranger, and his form was that of a blue Harley Davidson Electric Glide. An old form, but in Indigo's mind, it was awesome.

She rode on the motorcycle with her bookbag strapped to the back, and a helmet on her head, along with some armor to keep herself safe in case they ever got into an accident.

"Thanks for the ride Night Ranger. I know my buddy's out of town so--"

"Not a problem, Indigo. I've had nothing else to do today, I'm willing to lend a hand. And...", Night Ranger's rearview mirror adjusted to look behind him. There he could see some other vehicles behind him. One was the same hot rod Lemon climbed into, another was a red sports car, the third was an old red roadster car, and the final one was the 70s truck that he knew too well.

"I see the rest of our friends have caught up with us," Night Ranger said.

Night Ranger slowed down a bit for the rest of the Guardian allies to catch up with them, and some of them even pulled up into different lanes next to them. This gave a chance for Indigo to give her friends a few waves of a 'good morning'. But Indigo looked in the rearview and saw Smallfoot smack behind her, and Sour was still looking blue.

"Huh... Sour's still looking upset. Wonder what pooped in her corn flakes," Indigo replied.

Night Ranger wasn't sure how to respond. That sentence was all too... gross.

"Indigo, that's just... disgusting," Night Ranger replied.

"Well, what else can I say?" Indigo protested.

After passing a few more green lights, all of the vehicles pulled up into the parking lot of the back of the prestigious Crystal Prep Academy. One by one, all of them got out of their vehicles, grabbing their belongings.

Good Knight waited as Sunny Flare grabbed her things before speaking.

"Have a wonderful day, Ms Flare. I'll pick you up after school," Good Knight said.

Sunny gave a warm smile back to the Guardian, "Thank you. I'll see you later Knight."

Lemon Zest climbed out of Street Heat who's engine continued to run with horsepower, feeling the need for speed. Lemon looked at the hot rod and gave a grin while pumping her fist making a rock and roll sign with her index and pinky.

"Rock and roll dude!" Lemon said with her tongue sticking out.

"Rev, rock, and rumble Lemon!" Street Heat called.

Sugarcoat stepped out of Sparky, not saying a word to the concerned Guardian. With how much was said, and how much she didn't say, it was highly concerning to the Guardian.

"Um... see you later?" Sparky replied.

Sugarcoat turned back and gave one nod to Sparky who was still parked in her vehicle mode, before walking back into the building. Sparky could feel her metal shake and rattle just shuddering at how creepy she was.

Indigo pulled herself off the blue motorcycle and grabbed her belongings off the back end. She removed the helmet off her face, letting her dark blue hair sway around, re-adjusting to its normal look. She gave the motorcycle a grin.

"Thanks for the ride, Night Ranger!" Indigo saluted.

Night Ranger just sat there, and one small police light flickered on the back of it.

"I'll pick you up after school," Night Ranger replied.

As the girls began to depart, and walk inside of the school, Sour sat for a moment inside of Smallfoot just before getting her backpack. She stayed silent, staring off into space. Her only thoughts were the ones inside of her head.

"Ahem, aren't you... going to, go?" Smallfoot hesitated.

Sour's head shook violently when she heard Smallfoot interrupt. She looked down onto the dashboard, and nodded quickly.

"Sorry, I was... lost, in space. To say the least," Sour said before reaching for her backpack. But just before she exited out.

"Sour wait. One more thing before you go inside," Smallfoot said.

Sour waited as she turned her head to the radio that kept blinking whenever Smallfoot spoke.

"Have a good day, okay?" Smallfoot asked.

Sour stayed silent before giving a nod, "Okay. Thank you, Smallfoot."

Sour quickly grabbed her belongings, and opened up the truck door before stepping out. Once she was out, she put both straps of the backpack onto her shoulder to get a tighter grip onto it. Smallfoot's red shiny door closed on its own, and Sour walked onto the pathway, leading to the inside of Crystal Prep Academy. She looked up for a moment, and sighed to herself. She walked inside of the school, and closed the double doors behind, leaving all of the Guardians by themselves.

Once Smallfoot saw that the coast was clear, she spoke up.

"Guardians? Can I ask that we all convert so I can face you guys?"

"Uh, sure, yeah, I don't see why not," Night Ranger replied.

One by one, all of the Guardians converted into their alternate forms. First it was Smallfoot, then it was Sparky, then Night Ranger, Street Heat, and finally Good Knight.

"First of all, good morning to you all," Smallfoot said with a friendly voice. But her face expression said otherwise, she looked very serious, but at the same time, very stressed.

"Morning my dear," Good Knight said.

"Smallfoot, are you okay? How come you're not spunky or cheerful today?" Sparky asked.

"I'm sorry Sparky, but something's been going on my mind recently. Sour Sweet hasn't been on her... sweet side, recently. She barely talks to me anymore, she doesn't want to do things we normally do anymore, she isn't being herself," Smallfoot said.

The Guardians all looked at each other concerned. This didn't sound too good.

"You think she might be upset about something?" Street Heat asked.

"I think that's a little obvious, Street Heat," Night Ranger snapped.

"Did any of the girls tell you anything about Sour's attitude recently?"

The Guardians shook their heads no, making Smallfoot groan and grab her face. If the girls didn't tell the Guardians, how was she going to figure out what was wrong with Sour? If no one else but the rest of the girls knew then... wait. A light flickered in Smallfoot's head. The rest of the Shadowbolt girls all knew about her problem. Maybe she just needed to talk to them.

"Well then... wait, do the girls ever hang out with you during lunch?" Smallfoot asked, with her hand out pointing a finger to them.

"They always come out and visit us during the lunch hours, all except for 'Sour Sweet' one," Good Knight replied, "Why is it that you inquire that?"

"Because I think I'm gonna find out what's wrong with her," Smallfoot said, looking to the set of double doors, "I... I think."
