Two Spells, One Mistake
Chapter 63: A Double Dose of Purple
Previous Chapter Next ChapterTwilight heaves a heavy sigh while watching students pass by the window of Sparkles', thinking about where Edward might be and how little sleep she got during the night. Her attention is suddenly snapped back to reality when a tea tray is placed in front of her and a large cup sat on her side. Looking up at the culprit, she is surprised to see Midnight Sparkle preparing her own cup before sitting down.
"Please forgive the intrusion, I don't start work for a couple of hours and I thought you might like some company." The girl smiled at the mare, taking her by surprise.
"Oh, thank you, I suppose." Twilight idled a little before deciding to take a small sip of the offered beverage, then a larger sip when her eyes widened.
Midnight giggled at the expression made by her counterpart and sighed.
"I thought you might love it." She states, taking her own mid-sized sip.
Stopping herself from draining the cup, she stares at the girl opposite her with a puzzled expression.
"What makes you think that I would love this combination of coffee and chocolate?" Twilight asks, soon taking another sip.
"Hmm, it's almost like staring into a mirror, no?" Midnight comments, taking in the mixed aroma of her mochaccino, "You know I'm not so dull and easily notice the resemblance, Miss Sparkle?"
Twilight chokes a little and rubs the back of her neck, sighing in defeat she nods silently at the implication.
"I suppose I'm not surprised, just that it took this long." Twilight glances out the window.
Midnight finishes her first cup before eagerly getting more and relaxing down one again.
"When those two first brought you and Starlight into our cafe, I knew. I would be disappointed in myself if I didn't notice the likeness from another dimension. I wanted to let you girls be for a while, but I did help Starlight with a problem recently which I think worked out for her." Midnight smiles and sips her fresh cup.
"Thank you for helping her, I have honestly thought about this conversation for a while and when we'd actually get to have it." Twilight sighs with a weak smile.
"I can relate, but the stuff I'm dying to ask you can wait for a little bit. I want to help with that frown you think is hidden so well. I suppose, to start with a proper introduction might be nice." Midnight clears her throat and sits properly. "My name is Tara Sparkle, 'Midnight' is the nickname I was given due to my magical affinity. Midnight being supposedly when the veil between worlds is thinnest and magic at its strongest. However, the second part of that depends entirely on the type of magic as some magic is actually stronger during daylight hours."
Twilight smiles then laughs lightly but it gets deeper and louder before she calms down.
"Please forgive me for laughing but... It feels so strange to hear yourself tell a fact within an introduction. Like we couldn't help ourselves from doing so." Twilight sighs and keeps smiling, "Twilight Sparkle, Princess of friendship and the element of magic."
"Ooh, Princess, I like it. Shame I wasn't so fortunate, but then again those with immense magical power are considered magically royalty. I suppose in that regard, we are the same." Tara gives Twilight a refill when she runs out.
Feeling somewhat relieved, despite how odd her present situation is, Twilight sighs and closes her eyes to listen. The world inside the cafe is actually really serene during the early hours of the morning. The gentle ticking of the wall clock, the light tapping of the rain on the window outside, the pleasant drip from the coffee machine on the counter. It oddly put Twilight more at ease, she was so focused on Edward that she was winding herself up when she should have been staying calm.
"So peaceful..." Twilight whispers as she looks down into her cup.
"Wonderful, isn't it?" Tara adjusts on her seat as she looks out into the cafe. "I could study, I could prepare for the day, I could do any number of things but I like to sit here and listen while I enjoy a cup of mochaccino. I can't honestly say I ever feel this serene other than when with Lilith."
Twilight suddenly blushes deeply upon the mention of Princess Luna's counterpart.
"Y-yes, I suppose spending time with your lover would be serene..." Twilight downs a healthy gulp of her beverage.
Chuckling to herself, Tara grabs a napkin before leaning over to dab Twilight's mouth slightly to get a little spilt mochaccino, making her counterpart blush more.
"You are close with her counterpart I take it? No doubt she is a Princess just like Lilith. I honestly don't think I can imagine my life without her anymore. When she asked me out it was in the form of a proposal, least that's what her position suggested, a little tease from her sister as the girl had never dated before in her life." Tara giggles lightly at the memory while wearing a fond smile.
"That sounds like something Celestia would do..." Twilight sighs with a light chuckle.
Tara nods, knowing that's likely the name for Cassandra's counterpart.
"Yes, however... We've been together a while now and the more I think about it, the more I know what I want. I gave Schorl a very special custom order and knew Alexander was the only one who could cut the gem how I envisioned it." Tara takes a deep breath and shows Twilight a lovely midnight blue box which white stars across its surface. Once open, she can see that an elegant engraved silver ring sits comfy in a purple cushion. The ring itself houses a stunning dark blue sapphire cut in the shape of a crescent moon.
"Oh my, it's beyond beautiful. It's well thought out, how very us." Twilight smiles but frowns a little as her chest aches a little.
Tara puts away the ring and sighs deeply before staring at her counterpart.
"I believe there is something I need to tell you. Something that, maybe someone needs to tell you so it's possible to move past it. This is my universe, this is my life and the girl I'm with is who I've chosen to spend eternity with." Tara stands up and brings Twilight to rise by her hands gently, "Maybe your Lilith likes you, but do you like your Lilith? Should my life dictate yours? It's okay to blush and think 'what if', but you're sitting here pining for the company of someone else, right?"
Twilight nods slowly, knowing what Tara says is the truth.
"We fix friendship problems, so maybe love is a little out of our field." Tara takes a deep breath, a wide smile on her face, "I made my choice and I'd never dare regret it. I see the same look in your eyes that I have when Lilith has meetings or is so busy I can't see her. You already know what you want," Tara places her hand on Twilight's heart making the mare's ears perk up as she looks down, "In here. Don't let our overthinking take that potential happiness away from you."
Twilight can't help but take several shaky breaths, she does know what she wants. She spent all night worrying about the one thing she wanted, the one person who wasn't there when she wanted them to be.
"Don't you just hate it when we're right?" Twilight sniffs and wipes her eyes a little, "Thank you very much for the drink, and the advice." Twilight gets out her purse before Tara stops her and shakes her head.
"Nope. It's on the house. Now, how about we find that idiot so I can scold him for making you worry?" Tara cleans up her tray and their cups before holding the door open for Twilight.
The mare in question is stunned but pleasantly surprised by her counterparts actions, but then... Is this not what she does? Do they not fix friendship problems? As of this moment, is Twilight Sparkle not a friend with a problem about another friend? Or perhaps it was deeper than that. Collecting herself, she left Sparkles' with Tara and began her search anew for Edward.
