Chapter 53: Shopping Sprawl/The Yo-kai with 1000 Swords

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

"Ah. Nothing like a little shopping trip to take your minds off of all this nonsense." Rarity put her hands behind her head and strolled through the city mall with Sunset Shimmer, Sci-Twi, and the rest of the Rainbooms close behind her.

"You said it, Rarity!" Pinkie jumped and fluttered her arms. "After all of this wacky-dacky Yo-kai and magic stuff, I think it's time that we kick back, relax, and start to have some fun! And what better fun than the joys of spending out money at the Canterlot Mall? Well... maybe some cotton candy at the food court would help too."

The Canterlot Mall was full of people shopping, talking to each other, and munching food in the nearby food court. Everywhere in the complex, there was light streaming down from the glass ceiling, with lots of life in each different passageway and shop. Truly, it was the ideal place for the girls, given their recent dealings with Yo-kai and Equestrian magic.

Soon, the girls were all darting into shops, picking up what they had been saving their money for. Rainbow Dash got some sports equipment; Rarity, some fabric; Fluttershy, some pet essentials; Pinkie, some candy; and Applejack purchased some new jeans and belts. Sunset and Sci-Twi hadn't spend any money yet, and saw the rest of the girls hauling their bags all around the mall, filled to the top and bulging at the seems.

"Gee. That's an awful lot of stuff you've got there, girls." Sunset put her hands to her hips and looked in each of the bags. "You must've really saved up a lot."

"Yeah. We saw a lot of cool stuff and we just couldn't say no." Rainbow Dash smiled as she looked down at the haul she had amassed. "Check it out! All as awesome as I am!"

"Um, I don't think it has to be awesome to be good, Rainbow Dash." Fluttershy looked down at her own bag and dipped her arm down deep into the sea of products. "It doesn't matter what kind of items that you got, just as long as you're happy with your purchase. Now... oh my. Where did it get to?" She squatted down and put the bag onto the ground as she tried to find one specific item. "Where did it get to? I know I remember getting it from the Pet Palooza. It can't have gone missing already..."

"Don't worry, Fluttershy. I'll give you a hand." Sunset came over to the bag and put her own arm in it. "What exactly are we looking for, anyway?"

"It's a special kind of pet food. The doctors said that it would be ideal for Angel Bunny's growth and development after that little accident he had a while back," said Fluttershy. "Oh, I hope we find it soon. I don't want Angel to feel like I'm neglecting him."

"Fluttershy, not to sound rude, but how much stuff did you buy anyway?" Sci-Twi looked at the second of Fluttershy's bags and placed her own arm into it. "It seems an awful lot for someone like you, savings or otherwise..."

"Darling, there's nothing wrong with buying in bulk." Rarity crossed her arms and took out some of the goods from her own bags. "In fact, such a tactic is quite a saving grace for dressmakers like moi."

"Plus, ah do go through a heck of a lotta clothes back on the farm, what with the animals and all." Applejack tapped the ground with the tips of her feet and leaned against the bench. "Ya'll can never have too much spare clothes on ya, after all."

"Fluttershy... I'm curious." Sunset finally pulled out the pet food and handed it back to her. "How much did all of this stuff cost? You did keep the receipts, right?"

"Of course I did, Sunset." She reached into her pockets and pulled out a multitude of white receipts, handing them all over to Sunset in exchange for the pet food. "The price isn't that much of an issue, though. I'm happy with all of the stuff I got."

"Yeah..." Sunset took the receipts and eyed each of them up. "You're happy with anime comics from the nearby comic book shop."

"What?!" Fluttershy scrambled to take the slip out of Sunset's hand. "I don't remember getting that!"

"Everyone? Are you sure that you like everything that you bought?" Sci-Twi looked at the other Rainbooms. "Quick. Check your own receipts. There might be some inconsistencies with what you like and what you actually got."

Each of the Rainbooms plucked out fistfuls of white paper receipts and examined them all as much as they could. For most of the time, they nodded and murmured in approval over most of their purchases, but eventually, they all came across some that caused them to gaps.

"Wh-what?! I don't remember getting that!" Rainbow Dash exclaimed. "When am I ever going to need a Co-Z Thermal Blanket?!"

"A chocolate-making set?! Ah... Ah can't believe it!" Applejack stumbled backwards. "Ah must've been off mah rocker to have bought that!"

"Hold on. You ALL bought things you didn't even need?" Sunset turned to the rest of the girls, who nodded and showed her the receipts. "Something's not right here. You can't have just decided to buy them like that." And without another word, she flipped up the Yo-kai Watch's dome and scanned each and every one of the Rainbooms. "I know you're here, Yo-kai! Show yourself!"

Once Sunset's watch reacted, a large green floating mollusk with an eyeball and tongue sticking out of it appeared above the Rainbooms' heads. A small silver zipper hung from the right-hand corner of its' mouth. It was surrounded by a number of silver and gold coins—one of which rested leisurely on the mollusk's tongue.

"There! A Yo-kai!" Sunset readied her watch and pulled out a medal from her pocket. "Don't worry about this, girls. I'll take it."

"Oh, will you now?" The Yo-kai licked its' shell and tossed a coin onto Sunset's face, inflicting her with a purple flame and causing coins to tumble around her.

"Hey, girls? I've got some money to blow. So, I'll see you around, alright?" She ran off towards one of the shops with her Yo-kai Medals in hand. "You mind if I pawn off some of these medals first?"

"SUNSET! NO!" Sci-Twi chased after the inspirited Sunset and took out her own Yo-kai Medal while running. "Come on out, my friend! Calling Lie-In Heart!" She threw the medal in front of her and rolled down to catch it in her medal's slot. "Yo-kai Medal, do your thing!" The medal elegantly slipped through the slot as she started to run again.

"SUMMONING: BRAVE!" The watch declared as Twilight ran with the red streams of light.

Sumo shave!
Flavo engrave!
Flash team-a Brave!

"Lie-in Heart!" He ran alongside Twilight, sword by his side. "You summoned me, master? What Yo-kai do you need to bring justice to?"

"That one there!" Twilight pointed back towards the mollusk, tossing more coins onto the other Rainbooms, coating them in inspiriting flames. "Take it out as fast as you can! It's going to make my friends spend money until they're broke!"

"It is known as Spenp," said Lie-in Heart. "A rather heinous Yo-kai most of the time, I will have no problems cleaving this one into brisket. I would not want you or any of your friend to end up in poverty." And he turned back and drew his sword, leaping at Spenp. "Prepare yourself, heathen!"

"Sunset! You have to stop this!" Sci-Twi dashed towards Sunset and held her tightly, as if she was performing the Heimlich maneuver. But for curing a sudden shopping spree sensation rather than choking. "Spenp's inspirited you! You have to snap out of it!"

"So much stuff here... It's all too good to be true!" Sunset's flame-ridden eyes lit up at all of the merchandise in the shop. Struggling, she burst out of Twilight's hold and started grabbing what she could off the shelves. "I've just gotta spend it all! Shop 'til you drop, after all!"

"Are you prepared for judgement, Spenp?" Lie-in Heart demanded as he tipped the tip of his sword at the mollusk.

"If by judgement, you mean a massive amount of retail therapy, then yeah, I'm totally ready for it!" Spenp flipped the coin on his tongue and caught it as it fell, lathering it in his slimy saliva.

"Greed-ridden. The worst kind of offense there is..." Lie-in Heart slowly drew his blade, then dashed forward at blinding speeds, slashing horizontally at Spenp. "Begone!"

However, just as his sword was about to slice the Yo-kai's eye, the zipper hastily forced Spenp's mouth shut, causing Lie-in Heart's sword to bounce off the hardened shell. The recoil on the sword's strike was so much that it caused Lie-in Heart to unintentionally throw his sword out of his hands on the rebound.

"No!" The lion gasped as his sword twirled through the air and landed in the fountain. "Vile cur! You just wait there!" He ran over towards the fountain and dived straight in, looking for his sword in the rippling and gushing water feature.

"Enjoy your dip, friend. I'm just gonna go round, spreading the gift of spending to everyone else in this mall." Spenp turned around and floated off, chucking coins down onto the faces of the other patrons in the mall.

"Sunset..." Twilight gritted her teeth and dug her heels into the ground, anchoring Sunset down as much as she could. But no matter how much pressure she put on her hold, the fiery-haired teen finally snapped out of her grasp and took all of the items she could grab off of the shelves and head towards the counter. "No! Don't go for broke, Sunset! This isn't like you!"

"Gotta spend! Gotta spend!" Sunset's pupils turned into dollar signs as she hauled her load towards the counter, only to be stopped by a queue of people. "Oh, darn it! There's a line!" Pouting, she crossed her arms and rapidly tapped the ground with her feet.

"Thank goddess, there's a line." Sci-Twi sighed and wiped some sweat off of her brow. As she waited with Sunset in the line, she turned towards the exit of the shop and saw lots of other people falling under Spenp's inspirits, scurrying into the shops as fast as their legs could carry them. "C'mon, Lie-in Heart..." she whispered, "Hurry up..."

Lie-in Heart burst out of the fountain, coughing up and sloshing water all over the place as he tried to dry himself off. He shivered and shuddered as he took his sword and slid his fingers across the blade, sweeping the water off of it. With a clean and ready blade, Lie-in Heart pointed it to thin air, seeing that Spenp had already ran off.

"Heathen..." Lie-in Heart brought his blade close to his face and squinted his eyes. "Where are you?" He started to look around the frenzied mall, his eyes cutting through all of the pandemonium, squabbles, and chaos. "I'm a very patient Yo-kai, Spenp. I can wait until the end of time if needs be..."

Eventually, Lie-in Heart saw coins tumbling down onto a little girl's face. She broke off from her mother and ran away, revealing Spenp behind her. "There you are." He tightened his grip on the sword and dashed forward hastily. As he leapt up into the air, he did several forward somersaults before driving his blade—which was now glowing bright blue—down on Spenp.

"LION BLADE!" With a series of lightspeed swings, Lie-in Heart struck Spenp a number of times before landing behind him. He stood up and sheathed his sword, causing a series of slash marks to appear on Spenp, making his shell break up into a million pieces before turning into a blue wisp—the mark of a defeated Yo-kai. "Black Friday is not today, reckless one. Now, your curse is lifted from these poor inspirited patrons."

And sure enough, the flames were lifted from everyone in the shop. The scramble and thunder of running shoes came to a stop as everyone snapped out of the inspirits and came back to reality, shaking their heads as they tried to get rid of the pounding sensations. Once they were all well and good, they came back out of the shops and went back to chatting with each other.

Sunset Shimmer and her friends were the last ones to lose the purple flames. And just in time, as Sunset was just about to reach the end of the line and pay for her goods. Having seen what she had in her arms, she jumped backwards and dropped everything around her. "What the heck? Was I about to pay for all of this stuff?" she asked herself as she put everything away. "Geez. What was I thinking?"

"You were under Spenp's inspiriting powers." Sci-Twi helped Sunset put everything away, carrying half of the products back to the shelves. "If Lie-in Heart hadn't stopped him, you would've blown all of your money on all this junk."

"Spenp, eh?" Sunset tilted her head. "A Yo-kai that makes people want to spend all of their money on anything... It'd be great for struggling businesses, I bet."

"Maybe Mr. Goodsight could use him if he needs to make some dough," said Sci-Twi. "Though, it might also want to make him spend his own money and that really wouldn't take him anywhere. Maybe with some taming, we could be able to give him a better purpose."

"Speaking of taming, where is he?" Sunset walked out of the shop with Sci-Twi next to her. Flipping up her watch's dome, she tried to locate Spenp, but couldn't find him anywhere. "Did he decide to run off back to the Yo-kai World?"

"Maybe." Twilight couldn't find Spenp either, but instead found Lie-in Heart walk towards her. The lion bowed before them both. "Oh. Lie-in Heart. Do you know where Spenp went?"

"He has fled back home," he said. "My Lion Blade cleaved him into pieces." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a simple silver coin. "I found this after he vanished. Mayhaps you can use it to purchase a reward for yourselves."

"It seems a bit too big to be a coin. Maybe a quarter, but I can't really be too sure about it..." She turned the coin over and saw a portrait of Spenp on the other side. "Hang on. This is no coin. It's a Yo-kai Medal!"

"We didn't even impress him and he dropped his medal?" Sunset tilted her head and glanced at the new Yo-kai Medal. "That's a bit weird..."

"Yeah." Sci-Twi nodded. "Usually, we have to impress a Yo-kai if they want to be friends with us, but Lie-in Heart beat his butt back to the Yo-kai World and he drops his medal on the way home? I would call that breaking the rules a little, but I don't think that Yo-kai always follow their own rules sometimes."

"Still, I've gotta write this down." Sci-Twi pulled out a large notebook from her backpack and turned to a page she had already used. "It might just be a footnote, but it's still pretty important. If Yo-kai are gonna be just as talked-about as magic is, then I've gotta make sure that I document everything I can. We don't wanna miss out on any little detail. It might just save our lives.

"Speaking of saving, how much money did you save from Spenp's powers?" Sci-Twi asked, looking down at Sunset's pockets.

"I think it was a hundred and something. I dunno." Sunset pulled her wallet out of her pocket and opened it up, peaking in every little compartment. "Credit card's still there. Change is good. And notes are looking good. Thank goddess for that."

"Yeah. I'm glad that we managed to save you from poverty Sunset." Sci-Twi turned towards the mall and watched everyone gape in disbelief at their own wallets. "But I can't say the same for everyone else Spenp inspirited."

"On the bright side, at least they've got some things that might help 'em out soon." Sunset saw the rest of the Rainbooms come out with even more items in their bags. "Better to have and not need than to need and not have, after all."

"Are you KIDDING ME?!" Rainbow screamed. "Why would I ever need some Lux-You-Rious Body Butter?!"

"Well... almost," said Sunset before she and Sci-Twi shared a giggle.

Twilight, Whisper, and Jibanyan were walking down the streets of Ponyville. The cool breeze swirled through their hair, fur, and ethereal mass and flew across the town. Birds twittered and chirped high above their heads, and the ponies around them were going through their daily routines, purchasing items, talking to each other, and handling their children.

"Twilight? Might I ask you something?" Whisper said.

"Sure. Ask away, Whisper." Twilight smiled and nodded.

"How long has it been since you became a princess?" asked the ghost, looking down at Twilight's wings specifically.

"Well, it's been..." Twilight struggled to think of an answer. She had been caught up in so much stuff since she had become an alicorn that the time had just seemed to whiz by. "Actually, I can't give an answer for that, Whisper."

"The days have gone faster than Venoct's scarf, I presume." Whisper crossed his arms. "I understand how it feels. Nate and I could barely keep track of time once he got a Yo-kai Watch."

"Nyeah," said Jibanyan. "Half of the time, he didn't even realize what day it was."

"How many of those days do you think were..." Twilight took a deep breath and gulped. "Wasted?"

"Wasted? Why would you ever say that?" Whisper tilted his bulbous head. "I don't think any of your days were wasted, Twilight. Not since you got your Yo-kai Watch at least."

"Well, maybe not to you, but I just get the weirdest feeling that ever since I got my wings, I feel like some days have just been full of nothing." Twilight stared at the townsponies. "When I went to the Rainbow Falls Trade, I felt like I did practically nothing there. Same thing for when those bats infested Applejack's orchard, and for when we opened Rarity's shop in Canterlot. It feels like I'm just being tossed to the background nowadays."

"Oh, nonsense, Twilight! You can't be considered a background character when such a heavy burden is on your shoulders." Whisper tutted, wagging his finger. "Why, King Void is after you exclusively! He's seen something in you that poses a threat to his empire, so naturally, you have to be the protagonist."

"I know, I know! But on the days when I'm not strategizing on how to fell a king who turns Yo-kai into Dark Yo-kai, and who's supposedly worse than every other Yo-kai villain your world's ever faced, I feel like I'm not needed half of the time," Twilight moaned. "And when I am needed, it's only for a minor role, and then, I'm just forgotten about. I mean, do my friends really need me for half of the squabbles that they can sort out themselves?"

"Well, Twilight, that's the job of the Princess of Friendship, after all. You're a mediator!" Whisper exclaimed.

"Uh huh. Thanks a lot, Whisper." Twilight deadpanned.

"I MEANT IT AS A COMPLIMENT, FOR ENMA'S SAKE!" Whisper erupted and threw his arms in front of himself. "YOU KNOW I NEVER MEAN TO BRING YOU DOWN, TWILIGHT! I'M JUST TRYING TO—" But before he could finish, he was slashed in half by a massive steel polearm.

"Silence!" Boomed a voice. "You interrupted my battle with Red Snow!"

"Battle?" Twilight flipped up her watch and pointed it to the air in front of Red Snow. "Who is she fighting against?"

"Twilight-san. I appreciate you coming by to support me, but this is something I must do on my own," said Red Snow as she leapt backwards and avoided another slash from the massive polearm. "Come, Blazion! Let us prove ourselves!"

When Twilight saw Red Snow and Blazion evade another strike from the massive weapon, she quickly found the Yo-kai that was assaulting them both. It had a large white chest like a pair of wardrobe doors, with a spiky blue frame. It was dressed in a white hood and wore a red bead necklace around its' neck. In one of its' two massive hands was the polearm, slashing and slicing the air clumsily, but still leaving Red with little room to escape.

"Whoa! Who is that?!" Twilight jumped backwards at the size of the Yo-kai and his weapon. "He looks like a strong one!"

"That, Twilight, is Benkei. A Yo-kai descended from traditional mythology about a japanese warrior of the same name." Whisper was just reciting the trivia on his Yo-kai Pad. "Benkei is a Brave tribe Yo-kai which is rumored to wield a thousand swords. But so far, all that we've seen is just the one in his hands."

"A thousand swords?" Twilight's eyes lit up and her smile quickly resurfaced. "That could be a great Yo-kai to use against King Void! We've gotta try and befriend him!"

"In a moment, Twilight. It seems like he's a bit busy with Red Snow." Whisper tugged on Twilight's shoulders. "We should just sit back and watch for now."

Benkei's strikes were strong, but Red Snow was able to evade most of them. The Japonese mare had barely any openings, given how much ground Benkei was covering with his long polearm slashes. And in the times she did have an opening, it wasn't long before Benkei moved out of the way and changed his stance, flipping the weapon into his other hand.

"Why do you fight?" Benkei asked, thrusting the polearm down at Blazion, missing him by split seconds. "Even against a Yo-kai as clumsy as I, why?"

"King Void turned Sailornyan; one of my closest Yo-kai friends into a Dark Yo-kai." Red Snow had flames burning in her eyes. "He has hurt enough Yo-kai as it is. I. Must. Get. Stronger! Or we are all doomed!"

"But why me? Of all of the Yo-kai you could've chosen to fight, why do you choose one like me to train yourself?" Benkei still struck, despite his chattering. "You could work with Sgt. Burly, or Venoct, or even Arachnus or Toadal Dude! They're miles stronger than I am!"

"I choose you because you are descended from Japonese mythology." Red Snow ordered Blazion to shoot some fireballs down on Benkei's face, striking right between the eyes. "The legendary samurai with one-thousand swords. Let me see his full power!"

"Well, I'm not sure about being legendary, but I'll give it all that I've got now!" Benkei opened up his chest and stuffed the tip of his blade into it. After letting it cook for a few moments, his sword came out, blazing a radiant shade of purple. He waved his blade in the air and swung it horizontally as fast as he could, proclaiming, "999 BLADES!" The slash was so powerful that it sent out a single slash that was so large, it was made up of hundreds of smaller slice lines.

"Oh my..." Twilight just watched in awe as Red Snow tried to evade the attack. But the slashes followed her and Blazion and they quickly deluged her, sending her flying against the wall of Town Hall. "Now there's a Yo-kai that we need..."

Red Snow cursed in her native tongue before she fell onto her face. Her tail stuck high in the air as she felt the impact shaking her body from horn to hoof. Blazion rolled and tumbled before her, before transforming into a singular flame. "I'm losing my edge." She trembled and stood up, looking down at her shaky legs. "Back in Japony, I was such a good Yo-kai hunter... Where did I go wrong? And how have I fallen so far from grace?"

"Red Snow." Benkei floated up to her and turned his weapon to the ground. "I know how hard it is to lose your edge." He helped her stand upright by slowly using his polearm to lift her legs up. "You are right about one thing. I am descended from a great warrior from your country's history. The fabled pony known as Surudoi Ha. In Princess Twilight's language, that equates to Sharp Edge."

"Surudoi Ha? But he's as old as time itself..." Red Snow's eyes lit up. "He was an old man when my grandparents were just babies..."

"Surudoi was one of the greatest warriors that Japony had ever known. He would slay armies at the drop of his straw hat with a combination of magic and swordplay." Benkei held his sword close to his face, watching the sunlight reflect off of the edges. "Some even went around calling him the One Slice Pony, because that was his method. He channeled magical spells into his sword strikes, effortlessly slaying his foes with a beautiful combination of swordplay and magical arts.

"But then... one day, he just seemed to vanish. Dissappear. Poof! Gone! Without a trace." Benkei hung his head and put his polearm into his chest compartment. "And the second he disappeared, I was created. Maybe, his disappearance and how I became a Yo-kai are related somehow, but I felt compelled to try and match what Surudoi had done, but as a Yo-kai."

"You seemed to set yourself a pretty high standard, Benkei." Twilight clopped forward with Jibanyan riding on her back. "I can only imagine that trying to emulate the standards would leave you with a lot of mistakes."

"Right on the money. Someone should give you a prize for that guess." Benkei turned to face her and smiled. "It's true. Benkei is not as good as Surudoi, or Venoct, or Burly, or any of the other higher-up Yo-kai. No matter how much I fight, I always end up clumsy, sloppy, and unfocused. Even when it looks like I'm fighting well, I just fight on defense, as I know being an aggressive Yo-kai is only gonna end in tears."

"Aw, don't be too hard on yourself, Benkei." Twilight reached her hoof to his face and rubbed it down his cheeks. "If you try and be like Sharp Edge, then it's gonna be a long and arduous road. Just try and start small and learn new things as you go. That's what I did, and now I'm an alicorn for it." She unfurled her wings.

"Ali...corn?" Benkei tilted his head.

"An alicorn is the combination of all three of the pony species." Twilight puffed out her chest. "I have unicorn magic, pegasus flight, and earth pony strength. All rolled into one nifty, purple-furred, brainiac, savior of the worlds-style package."

"So... the only logical thing for me to do to get better... would be to follow you!" Benkei's eyes lit up.

"Well, that's good. Because the only thing be—" Twilight stopped speaking once the words had sunk into her head "—Wait, WHAT?!"

"It all makes perfect sense now! I can't ever be as good as Surudoi, because he's nothing but a hackjob compared to you!" Benkei beamed eagerly. "You can fly, use magic, and push heavy things! That's at least one talent more than him! Oh, my mistress! I am forever your warrior!"

"Warrior?!" Twilight jumped. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! I think we've got this all backwards! Aren't Yo-kai supposed to be befriended through battling or solving their problems?"

"Well, technically, you did give him some inspiration for improvement, Twilight, my dear." Whisper raised his finger. "You've become his new role model. Congratulations!"

"You're NOT HELPING, WHISPER!" Twilight snarled at him.

"Mistress. I shall do all that I can to please you." He pulled his chest open again and fished out his Yo-kai Medal, handing it over to her. "Please. Call me often, and let me prove myself as an honorable soldier to you!"

"Benkei, if you'd just li—"

"Oh! And to prove that I'm in your good graces, I shall provide a medal for Red Snow as well!" He pulled a second Yo-kai Medal out of the same chest compartment. "So, for the times that you don't need my services, I shall work with your companion and make myself stronger for my next mission with you. Win-win scenario!"

"Benkei! I'm trying to spe—"

"I shall await the day that you summon me, mistress." Benkei bowed before her. "But first, I must train. The legendary Benkei, disciple of Princess Twilight Sparkle, shall make himself the best Brave tribe Yo-kai ever!" And before anyone else could say anything else, Benkei vanished into thin air.

"I..." Twilight was so slack-jawed that the Yo-kai Medal toppled out of her hoof. "Whisper? Do you have anything to say about this?"

"What can I say, Twilight?" Whisper shrugged. "No really, I'm asking. Do you want me to be proud, angry, or just as confused as you are? At this point, I'm a little flabbergasted myself."

"Eh, chill out, you two. We got a Yo-kai Medal from it." Jibanyan scurried down, picked up the medal, and rummaged through Twilight's Yo-kai Medallium. "And besides, it's like you keep saying, Whisper: We've gotta get EVERY Yo-kai in the book if we're ever going to take down King Void." Jibanyan put on a thick Whisper impersonation as he slid the medal into the first open slot in the book.

"Jibanyan, you KNOW that I don't take kindly to rude impersonations of myself!" Whisper blew steam out of the side of his head. "And, to top it all off, I never once in my life said those lines. At any point. Ever!"

"Oh yeah? Then why do you whisper them at night, Whisper?" Jibanyan smirked.

"YOU KNOW THAT BABBLING IN ONE'S SLEEP DOES WELL TO REMEMBER THINGS!" Whisper threw himself into Jibanyan. "I WAS JUST MENTALLY REMINDING MYSELF THAT TWILIGHT NEEDS A GOOD ENTOURAGE OF YO-KAI IF SHE'S GOING TO SAVE THE WORLDS! IS IT WRONG NOW TO CARE ABOUT HER WELLBEING?!"

"You can barely care for yourself, Whisper!" Jibanyan snapped back. "You don't fight because you're scared that you'll get your hair mushed up!"

"I DO NOT!" Whisper roared.

"YOU DO TOO!" screeched Jibanyan

While Jibanyan and Whisper argued in the background, Twilight took the time to pull out the Yo-kai Medallium and take a look at Benkei's medal. She held it up in the light and watched Red Snow do the same with hers.

"Speaking of losing things, I think I need to re-write the book on Yo-kai a little..." Twilight sighed and drooped her neck.
