Chapter 28: Just a Little Signibble/Ake-y Breaky Heart

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Sunset Shimmer looked down at her new Yo-kai Watch as she walked into Canterlot High the next day. After everything that she had seen and done in the human world and after all of the battles she had fought, she had never expected her to be wearing the watch. At first, she had had her mind wracking around the magic that had been outflowing at Camp Everfree and what could happen to her friends in the future, but now that the watch was around her wrist, Yo-kai had taken up all of her thoughts instead.

"Hey, Sunset." Sci-Twi walked up to her once she entered the foyer of the high school. "Did you have trouble sleeping last night?"

"Not really." Sunset pulled her head up from the watch to talk with Twilight. "Why do you ask?"

"Well, given what happened with the Puppet Brothers a few weeks ago, I'm beginning to worry about the future of this world." Twilight looked at the Nosirs medal in her Medallium. "Now there's both Equestrian Magic and Yo-kai running loose and it's elevated the risk phenomenally. We could be facing something far beyond both of our comprehensions with little to no knowledge of how to beat it!"

"I'm not worried." Sunset Shimmer looked at the medal herself. "If these Yo-kai are willing to help us and be friends, then that's a step towards stopping this King Void guy. And besides, it's not this is the first time we've battled the forces of darkness."

"Yeah! If anything, this is the fifth time we've had to fight evil!" Pinkie Pie popped up behind the girls and wrapped her arms around their shoulders. "Well, maybe fourth for Sunset."

"Don't get too excited yet, Pinkie Pie." Applejack approached the group and gently pushed down on Pinkie's own shoulder. "We only barely got introduced to these newfangled Yo-kai a few days ago. And judging from how many holes there are in that there Yo-kai Medallium, I'd say that it's gonna take a while before we get used to it."

"Well, I'm not worried." Rarity came up as well. "If there are any Yo-kai that know a thing or two about fashion, then I'd say that we're in perfectly good hands."

"I'm just interested to see what different breeds of Yo-kai there are." Fluttershy picked up some animals and put them back in her backpack. "Given how adorable Jibanyan was, I'm actually quite excited to meet all these new Yo-kai friends."

"I still can't believe that we didn't get our own watches, though." Rainbow Dash walked up to the girls and messed around with her phone. "If we're going to face this King Void as friends, then we need to be prepared and make as many friends as possible. Us all having Yo-kai Watches would totally make this easier, y'know."

"You have to remember what Mr. Goodsight said, though, Rainbow Dash." Sci-Twi raised her finger. "Yo-kai Watches are only for the pure of heart. In order to minimalize any form of mischief and Yo-kai Watch overuse, only the pure of heart get to have them."

"And you girls have been known to kinda show your worst sides before..." Sunset Shimmer looked at all five of the Rainbooms, thinking back to the Battle of the Bands when the Dazzlings came to CHS. "I think it's better this way."

"Whatever." Rainbow Dash typed in a website name on her phone and entered the command to search for it. Her phone was stuck on the same page for a couple of minutes before it showed an error notification. "What?! CHS has five bars worth of internet access!"

"Just close and re-open the internet." Applejack mentioned.

Rainbow followed Applejack's advice and turned her Wi-fi settings off and on again. She went back to the internet and tried searching for the website again, only to have the exact same error message.

"What the heck?! What's wrong with the Wi-fi today?!" Rainbow demanded as she went back to the phone's settings and fiddled around with some more settings. "Guess I'll just have to stick with 4G. It's gonna eat away at my bill a bit, but I don't really care. I NEED to look this up before Harshwhinny's next history class!"

"Rainbow, don't you think that it's cheating to look up the answers before your next class?" Sunset asked.

"NOT EVEN 4G'S WORKING?!" Rainbow screamed and threw her arms down by her sides before slumping down onto her butt and kneeling down. "Aw, man... I am so finished..."

"I don't really see what the fuss is about, Rainbow Dash." Rarity picked Rainbow up and watched her slide the phone back into her pocket. "CHS has a library fully equipped with books on every subject imaginable. What's stopping you from picking up a book and doing some reading?"

"Reading?!" Rainbow spluttered and lurched backwards. "Rarity, Rainbow Dash does not do reading. She does awesomeness, sports, the internet, and many other cool things, but reading's not one of them!"

"No way!" Pinkie Pie cried out, looking over at her phone with the exact same message. "My internet's on the fritz as well!"

"Mine too!" a random female student called out.

"So's mine!" a boy added.

"And us!" Three girls with cameras called out.

"Wait. All of your Wi-fi's being jammed?" Sunset addressed the crowd of students.

"Uh-huh." They all nodded.

"Sounds weird. Definitely not Equestrian Magic weird, but weird nonetheless." Sunset pushed the button on the side of her Yo-kai Watch, flipping up the lens. She peaked through it and looked around. "And that can only mean that there's a Yo-kai behind all of this. But where is it?"

Sunset examined all of the students and waited until someone else pulled out their phone. Pointing her lens around the area, her watch lit up when she pointed at the exact location of the culprit. The twelve segments around her watch lit up and blinked before a blast of purple smoke revealed the Yo-kai behind the internet connectivity issues.

A small humanoid creature with black and yellow clothing with a simpe white ribbon appeared before her. He had two cylindrical points on top of his head. One yellow, and one black. He noticed the boy turn on his internet and leaped up to his phone, beginning to munch away at it. His biting didn't leave any bite marks, but he sucked up some electricity from the phone and swallowed it whole.

"Aww, c'mon!" The boy yelled as his phone showed the message again.

"What the heck is that?!" Sunset pointed towards the Yo-kai.

"What is what?" Sci-Twi looked through her own Yo-kai lens and saw the little yellow Yo-kai. When she saw it burp from its electricity meal and pat its belly, she let out a gasp of her own. "A Yo-kai!"

"And apparently, one who eats Wi-fi and electric signals." Sunset watched as the little Yo-kai munched away at the other students' phones, severing their internet connections as well. "This is bad. If we leave this Yo-kai running around, the CHS students aren't going to be happy about losing the internet."

"Let's give that little sucker what for!" Rainbow leapt onto her feet and tried to kick the Yo-kai away, only to have her kick go straight through him. "Wh-whoa!" She exclaimed as she kicked too high and fell over onto her haunches.

"Violence isn't always the answer, Rainbow Dash." Sunset Shimmer slowly approached the little yellow Yo-kai and watched it nibble on someone else's phone. She knelt down before the Yo-kai and gently tapped on its' shoulders. "Hello, little guy. What's your name?"

"Mmm... Yummy energy signals." The Yo-kai rubbed its stomach once again as it looked over at Sunset Shimmer. "Gah! I've been rumbled!" And it turned to run away.

"Hey! Wait!" Sunset chased after the little Yo-kai as it ran through the halls of CHS, past some more students and even straight through some of them as it avoided capture.

"Sunset! Where are you going?" Sci-Twi gave chase herself while Applejack and Rarity looked over at the other students.

"Honestly, there's such a thing as the library, you know." Rarity crossed her arms and looked away at the moaning and wailing students.

"Hear, hear." Applejack nodded, leaving Applejack, Pinkie, and the crowd to their internet-less devices. "Come on, Fluttershy. We'd better get to class.

"Alright." Fluttershy followed Applejack down the halls past some more students without internet.

The Yo-kai was doing a good job of running away from Sunset Shimmer. Despite its short and stumpy appearance, it was still able to run fast through the hallways. It swerved past the students who were coming down from the other side and made a quick dash through the door into the library.

Sunset Shimmer and Sci-Twi both barged into the room before being immediately shushed by multiple people. THey gave them odd looks before resorting to walking around. In such a large room, the Yo-kai wouldn't have the ability to go far without them seeing it and resuming the chase, but on the other hand, the room was so wide that it could've hidden in the bookcases.

"Let's split up. We'll cover more ground if we're looking in separate areas." Sunset said, looking around the lower sections of the library.

Twilight looked at the mezzanine part of the library, pulling out multiple books only to put them back in again. With how large the bookcases were, she had to borrow a ladder to make sure that she was checking every nook and cranny for the Yo-kai that had gobbled up the Wi-fi of the other students.

Sunset Shimmer covered the lower part of the library. While it wasn't as big and tall as the parts that Twilight was examining, it was still quite expansive. There were lots of little alcoves in the bookshelves that the Yo-kai could've squeezed through and hidden on so she made sure to push the books all the way back into the shelves once she picked them up.

All of a sudden, she heard the sound of eating and turned her head towards the middle of the room, where the Yo-kai was nibbling on the computers. His mouth was trying to eat them whole and having great difficulty as it dug its teeth into the monitors. Again, no real damage was caused, but the Wi-fi was instantly diminished, leaving another error message on the computers.

Sunset Shimmer slowly crept up to the Yo-kai and watched it eat the electricity. She barely even noticed the other students get up from the computers and groan as they went to find books on the subjects that had been studying before he ate away at the machines.

"I'm so full..." The Yo-kai flopped onto his back and looked down at his belly once more. It was now bulging out from all of the electricity that he had been eating. "I don't think I could take another bite." He only then noticed Sunset Shimmer approaching. His pupils dilated. "Oh crud..."

"Hey, little guy." Sunset Shimmer picked up Signibble, who could barely even shuffle to try and get out of her grasp. "Don't worry. I'm not going to hurt you. As you can see, I have the Yo-kai Watch." She showed it off to him. "I'm looking to make some new friends. Think you could help with that?"

"Well..." Suddenly, the Yo-kai's belly jiggled around rapidly. "Oh. Hang on." He took in some air.

"What? What's wrong?" Sunset asked.

The Yo-kai burped as loudly as he could, shooting a torrent of lightning out around him. The lightning coiled around Sunset and the other students, causing them to scream. It didn't actually hurt them, though, and more just made their hair incredibly frizzy, causing it to rapidly expand in all directions. Every piece of equipment that was hit by the electric blast short-circuited and spat sparks everywhere. Even the phones that were in the students' pockets had been completely disabled.

"Ooh! Pardon me." The Yo-kai rubbed his mouh and jumped down onto his feet. "Well, better out than in."

"What was that?" Sci-Twi came down from the top level with her hairstyle completely changed. Instead of being neatly combed down, it was now like a purple and pink bush had formed on her head.

"I... don't know." Sunset looked down at the Yo-kai.

"Well, that was awesome." The Yo-kai looked up at Sunset. "And yeah, of course I'd like to be your friend! This place has some great reception. A perfect place for me to crash." He bounced up and high-fived Sunset, giving her a Yo-kai Medal with a yellow back. "By the way, name's Signibble. It's nice to meet'cha. Take it from me, we've both got some great electricity." And with that, he disappeared.

"Signibble, eh?" Sunset took the medal and pulled out her Yo-kai Medallium from her own backpack. "That certainly was something different, wasn't it?"

"You can say that again." Sci-Twi looked around at the library. "The whole school's been EMP'd by him."

"Oh, Rainbow's not going to like this." Sunset put the medal into her book and closed it up. "But I think it's for the best. Who uses Wi-fi to look up the answers to school lessons?"

"C'mon... Yes! Finally!" Rainbow held her phone high into the air victoriously as she was on the website she needed at last. As if fate was playing a cruel trick on her, however, the blast of electricity that Signibble had belched up washed over her phone, causing it to deactivate and deconstruct in her hand.

"Ooh! Frizzy!" Pinkie Pie played with her hair as soon as the electricity caused it to burst out. She bounced down the corridor with her massive afro towards her next class.

"OH, FOR PETE'S SAKE!" Rainbow violently threw her ruined cellphone into the nearest trash can and kicked it as hard as she could, spilling the garbage everywhere. She craned her neck skyward and loudly bellowed, "I HATE TECHNOLOGY!"

Sunset Shimmer ate lunch with the rest of her friends. She picked up the spaghetti with her fork and twirled it around before raising it up to her mouth and swallowing it whole. Taking a drink, she looked around at the other students in the room who had been eating their food.

"Can you believe this epidemic?" Sci-Twi asked Sunset, looking at the tables herself. "Some students come in with aching shoulders, and others come in with stiff necks. It's weird."

"I don't think that it's weird." Pinkie Pie looked around, rubbing her neck gently as she took a bite of her apple. "But an achy-breaky body like this isn't fun at all. I just hope that we get some relief from this soon. I can't go the whole day in Pinkie-Pie-Pain. It'd make everything really icky and un-fun."

"Pinkie-Pie-Pain?" Rainbow Dash raised a brow as she took a bite out of her sandwich.

"Yeah. Pain that makes me super-grouchy and mean." Pinkie's hair deflated as she explained the situation. "These stiff shoulders of mine and stupid stiff neck are really making me mad."

"You have both ailments at once?" Sunset Shimmer came over to Pinkie Pie and massaged both her shoulders and neck. "Are you sure that you don't need to go to the doctor, Pinkie? You sound serious."

"I'm super-serious! I'm Pinkamena Diane Pie, for crying out loud!" She threw her arms and and waved them around. "If I didn't have these pains in my body, I'd be super-happy and fun again, but I do have them, so I'm not!" Crossing her arms, Pinkie took a bite out of her food.

"Sounds like there's a Yo-kai behind all of this." Sunset flipped her lens up and pointed it around Pinkie Pie. "Twilight. You might need to help me out with this."

"Okay." Twilight opened her Yo-kai Lens and examined Pinkie from every angle with it as well.

The two girls found two separate spots that caused their Yo-kai Watches to light up and reveal the Yo-kai with a blast of smoke. There were two Yo-kai around Pinkie Pie. One was a tiny little skeleton with a grape-shaped head and star shapes around its eyes, and the second was a frog wearing orange swimming trunks and carrying a pillow in its arms. The skeleton was kicking Pinkie's shoulders while the frog was rubbing its own neck on Pinkie's head.

"Wait. There's TWO Yo-kai?!" Sunset jumped at how both Yo-kai were inspiriting Pinkie Pie.

"If there's two Yo-kai, then we should try and befriend both of them." Sci-Twi pulled her her Yo-kai Medal for the Nosirs and readied it as she approached the skeleton and frog. "The more friends we have, the more we know about Yo-kai. In that sense, we'll be one step closer to figuring out how to stop King Void."

"If you're calling a Yo-kai, then be quick about it." Rarity pointed over at Pinkie. "Pinkie Pie as a grump is something the world's not prepared for, and I don't want her to lash out at the other CHS students because of it."

"Come on out, my Yo-kai friend! Calling the Nosirs!" Sci-Twi threw the medal high into the air and caught it. "Yo-kai Medal! Do your thing!" She slammed the medal into the watch in the correct position.

"SUMMONING: EERIE!" The watch declared as it began to materialize the three Nosirs.

Lookie-lee, lookie-lee,
Flippidy-dee!
Lookie-lee, lookie-lee,
Bubba Eerie!

"Nosirs!" They all appeared together before Twilight and Sunset.

"Guess I'll join in too! Come on out, Signibble!" Sunset threw her medal up into the air as well. "Come on out, my friend! Let's give 'em a shock!" She smiled when she put her medal into her watch.

"SUMMONING: MYSTERIOUS!" Sunset's Yo-kai Watch called out as yellow beams crashed down before her.

Boo-shiggy, boo-shiggy,
Boogie woogie!
Cling-clang delirious, Mysterious!

"Signibble!" He somersaulted into the school and jabbed his fingers at the air twice, shooting out little lightning bolts. "Zap, zap!"

"Get offa' her, Cricky! This is my shtick!" The skeleton jumped on Pinkie's shoulders and tried to roundhouse kick the frog. His legs were too small, however, and he ended up falling onto his butt and bouncing off of Pinkie altogether.

"I don't think so, Ake. She's mine." Cricky rubbed his head and watched Ake climb back up. "There's only room for one kind of ache here, and it certainly isn't yours."

"Signibble? Why don't you give those two Yo-kai a bit of a lesson?" Sunset pointed over to Cricky and Ake, who were still quarrelling over who should be inspiriting Pinkie Pie.

"Nosirs. You should help out too. We need to fix this before Pinkie Pie has a meltdown." Sci-Twi pointed towards the two Yo-kai.

The Nosirs and Signibble approached both Ake and Cricky and dealt them both attacks. Signibble shot lightning out of his fingers at Cricky while the Nosirs triple-teamed Ake, giving him light punches and kicks that were all well-timed and non-stop.

"Hey! Who're these clowns?!" Ake spat as he knocked the Nosirs away with some kicks.

"Ake! Truce?" Cricky looked over to him.

"Until these guys are done." Ake nodded and took up a combat stance as he confronted Signibble and the Nosirs.

Cricky jumped towards the Nosirs and gave them all a frog-like kick, slamming them into Sci-Twi, knocking her back a few feet. He then slapped Ake's little hand, causing him to kick Signibble's shoulders, casting an inspiriting flame on him.

"Ohh... What's wrong with my shoulders?" Signibble asked, rubbing them as gently as he could. "They're suddenly all achy."

"No hurting our friends! No sirree bob!" One of the Nosirs wagged his finger and tutted at the Yo-kai.

"You think you're so tough, huh?" Ake jumped up high into the air and dive-bombed the three Nosirs. "SHOULDER CRUNCH!"

Ake dived into the Nosirs, striking all of them at once before landing on his back before Sunset Shimmer and Sci-Twi. He rubbed his head, as he had hurt himself as well from using his own attack. He jumped back up and shook it off before he went over to the Nosirs and kicked all of their shoulders before they could get up again, putting inspiriting flames on them too.

"No fair! They're both mine!" Cricky thrust his arms out, casting his own inspiriting flames on the two Yo-kai.

"Ooh... First achy shoulders and now an achy neck?" Signibble groaned and flopped down onto his back. "Who are these two?"

"From the sound of it, their names are Ake and Cricky." Sunset Shimmer looked at the two Yo-kai, seeing them glare at each other whenever the other landed an attack on Signibble or the Nosirs. "But it's not their powers that bother me."

"Yeah. From the looks of it, they seem to be fighting each other more rather than our Yo-kai." Sci-Twi watched as Cricky and Ake began to fight each other once again. They spat insults and threw fists and kicks, trying to prove that they were better than the other. "What could've happened that caused them to fight?"

"People should have creaking necks, not shoulder pains!" Cricky shouted.

"Shoulder pains are the best way to go! Neck pain can be fixed easier!" Ake retorted. "You should just get back to the Yo-kai World and stop embarrassing yourself!"

"Embarrassing myself? Says the Yo-kai who can't even use his Soultimate without getting hurt!"

"You're one to talk, you frog-legged freak!"

"I AM A FROG!"

The two of them began arguing verbally and shook their fists towards each other as they tried to outdo each other. They didn't even notice Sunset and Sci-Twi walking towards them.

"Stop it! Stop it!" Sci-Twi pushed both of the Yo-kai away as hard as she could, causing them both to roll onto the floor. "Break it up, you two. Now just calmly and quietly tell us what happened and we won't have to resort to confrontation."

"Fine then, you wanna know the truth?" Ake stood up slowly and walked up to Sci-Twi. "This stupid frog is trying to put me out of business! We Akes and Payns thrive off of causing upper-body pain, and this frog here's trying to undercut me!" He jabbed a finger at Cricky.

"Undercut? I'm trying to do my job as well!" Cricky yelled. "Crickies are only good for causing neck pain. Granted, it can be fixed by a simple pillow, but I won't have my work undermined by someone as puny as you, Ake!"

"Puny?!" Ake roared.

"Calm the heck down!" Sci-Twi tried pushing both Cricky and Ake away again, but they were pushing so hard that the backs of both of her hands were pressed against each other. "Sunset! Help me out here!"

"Guys, guys, guys!" Sunset grabbed both Ake and Cricky and picked them both up. "Calm down! You're both fighting over something so meaningless. Who can inspirit better? That's the silliest thing to pick an argument over I've ever seen in my entire life! And believe me, I've seen some pretty stupid arguments."

"What do you mean? This is a great thing to argue over." Ake raised a brow at Sunset. "Two Yo-kai causing bodily pain? Such a great thing to debate."

"Yeah. We're just trying to keep an age-old tradition alive here." Cricky tipped his hand to Sunset. "I'm sorry if it caused the others here some trouble. Let me fix that for you." He clicked his fingers, causing the inspiriting flames to vanish.

"I suppose I should apologise as well." Ake rubbed the ground with the heel of his left foot, making his set of flames to disappear. "Guess I was just a little too caught up in the moment, that's all. I don't mean real pain on other people, but being an Ake or Payn's a hard life, y'know? All that we have is the power to cause shoulder pain."

"Just as we Crickies can only give neck pain. We can't do anything special like say the alphabet backwards or make you play leap-frog at a whim." Cricky nodded. "Yo-kai work in mysterious ways. Sometimes, we're diverse, but other times, it's like we're robots with just one command most of the time.

"Heck, we Crickies often end up surrendering immediately, most of the time, but Ake just called me out and pushed me to the breaking point." He shook his head.

"Sounds like you need to apologise to each other, not me." Sunset Shimmer helped Sci-Twi back up and allowed the two Yo-kai to come together. "Go on, we'll give you some time."

"I'm sorry, bud." Ake shuffled forward and rubbed his bony hands. "I was just trying to do my job and I ended up hurting yours."

"Same here. We both tried so hard to give these students neck and shoulder pains that we started a fight between each other." Cricky nodded and held out his hand. "I don't really know what else to say other than I'm sorry too."

"And I forgive ya." Ake shook Cricky's hand.

Pinkie Pie felt the pains in her body vanish instantaneously. Her hair popped back to its original form and a smile returned to her face. She ate her food with much more vigour than before, driving her teeth into the spaghetti and slurping it up like a vacuum cleaner. "Ahh! Much better!" she exclaimed.

"Guess we should thank you." Ake came up to Sci-Twi and Sunset. "You two are real great at this whole friendship business, huh?"

"Well, I shouldn't boast really, but I did learn from a princess of the subject matter." Sunset blushed and tipped her hand to the two Yo-kai. "I just do what I do to help others get back on their feet."

"Yeah. Sunset's a really good friend to have, you two." Sci-Twi nodded. "She's reached out to the hearts of so many people and helped them resolve conflicts and change themselves for the better. And if she can do it on humans like me and my friends, then I'm sure she can be a great benefit to the Yo-kai race too."

"Well then what are we waiting for?" Ake created a Yo-kai Medal and gave it to Sunset Shimmer. "If she's a good friend, I wanna see if she lives up to that promise. Might just end up making me into a Payn if I'm lucky."

"I might as well join her as well." Cricky leaped onto Sunset's shoulders and gently gave her his own Yo-kai Medal. "I might be a pain in the neck, but I certainly won't be your pain in the neck."

"That's actually pretty funny, Cricky." Sunset chuckled as she helped the frog down onto the ground. "And I'm glad that I could help the two of you out."

"Two more Yo-kai Medals." Sci-Twi watched Sunset open up her Yo-kai Medallium and store the two new medals, while also retrieving her Signibble medal. "You're doing great, Sunset."

"Thanks, Twilight, but we're only just getting started." Sunset nodded and closed up the book. "With what's waiting out there, I get the feeling we'll need to make lots more friends before we're ready to help Twilight fight King Void and save the worlds once again."

"Yeah. And besides. What's possibly going to be able to stop us?" Pinkie Pie showed off her necklace. "We've got the Magic of Friendship, these super-cool necklaces, and the Yo-kai on our side now. I say bring it on, King Void!"

"Pinkie. Don't antagonize him." Sunset Shimmer came up to Pinkie and massaged her shoulders. "I think we've seen quite enough neck pain for one day."

Everyone else just laughed at the statement and went back to eating their lunches.

Meanwhile, in a ruined temple, Kin and Gin were being knocked against the walls and being bombarded with fireballs. They tried countering with their own attacks, but they were destroyed in seconds. The two of them felt absolutely helpless whenever they were countered and felt the full force of their attacker's strength.

"Nnnghh... How strong is he?!" Kin demanded as she struggled to get back up.

"Even after all of the Dark Yo-kai King Void entrusted us, he's still not even broken a sweat!" Gin added, wiping some sweat off of her brow. "And we're sweatier than a couple of Sweltons!"

"C'mon, ladies. I thought you said you were going to show me the wrath of your king." A man with red skin and blonde hair stepped up to Kin and Gin. He lit his hand on fire and conjured up a ball of fire, bouncing it inbetween his hands. "Honestly. You're more dull than Nurarihyon sometimes."

"Looks like we'll just have to go back to the original plan, Gin." Kin looked over to her felled sister.

"Yes. Spread the Dark Yo-kai in the present and give Princess Twilight hell!" Gin pulled out another stone with a red spiral.

"We'll meet again, Lord Enma." Kin said as a giant clock appeared behind the two of them and levitated them towards it. "And when we do, you will fall, the Yo-kai Watch will never be created, and darkness will befall both your world and the human realm!"

"We'll see about that." Enma watched as both Kin and Gin vanished from his sight along with the clock they had conjured.
