The Tale of the Silver Scourge
Chapter 4: Captain's Log 2: The Galleon
Previous Chapter Next ChapterSeveral days after that, it became apparent that I ended up losing more than I originally thought when I made a pact with that devil...
Jacob coughed, spitting out the bite of the hamburger he had just crammed into his mouth, "what the hell, dude? You trying to poison me?" He cried, only half-joking.
I choked on my own burger, forcing myself to swallow heavily and wash it down with the tankard of water next to my plate, "I don't understand! I made it the same way I usually do!"
"Well, something is wrong with these," Jacob muttered, picking up the burgers and tossing them out the nearest porthole, "guess we can't look forward to your cooking anymore, right Ika-chan~?" He said with a sly grin.
"I don't wanna hear it from you, Basco." I muttered, getting out of my chair, "what's even going on any more man?" I groaned, burying my head in my hands. "We were just at a con and 'bought' some props from a guy dressed as Xur, and now we look like our characters. I even have the Galleon!"
"Are you forgetting about me?" A robotic voice asked, the source landing on my shoulder.
"And Navi," I added, patting the mechanical parrot on top of the head, much to her delight.
"Not to mention that said Galleon is currently flying above Equestria, which happens to be under Zangyack control." Jacob muttered, crossing his arms over his chest, "looks like wherever we ended up, it's a mass fusion of future Equestria and Gokaiger."
"Looks that way," I muttered, collapsing onto the high-backed leather chair in the center of the room, grabbing the small chest next to me and opening it, "it also looks like the Great Legend War was also a thing..." I chewed on my cheek.
"Maybe we could use the Greatest Treasure in the Universe? If this place really is a cross between Gokaiger and MLP, then elements of both should be here, in that case we could use it to send us home!" Jacob said, his eyes widening with the realization, "we already have five generations, so we should easily be able to gather the other thirty!"
"Not to rain on your parade J, but there's a problem with your plan. We've got no clue where to find them, and you remember what the cost is don't you? I don't really feel comfortable leaving Equestria's citizens to deal with every enemy the sentai have faced."
Jacob shook his head, "dude, why should we care? It's not our problem, and they can basically just deus ex machina their way out of anything with the Elements of Harmony."
"That didn't really help them against Zangyack, did it?"
"Again, not our problem. Why should we risk our lives for a world that's obviously not ours? In order to gain something, you have to give up something else." He shook his head, "look, why don't we just focus on gathering them for now? We can discuss this when we have all the ranger keys in our possession."
"Fine," I grunted, opening the chest and pulling out the Gokai Silver key, "if you need me, I'll be out on deck. If we're gonna be going after the ranger keys, it's likely we'll run into others after the same thing, or they might be in Zangyack hands."
Jacob nodded, "I'll be in the galley, can't fight on an empty stomach, right?"
"Right."
"Ooookay, lets give this a go, shall we?" I muttered to myself in an attempt to psyche myself up. I closed my eyes and felt the cool breeze flow through my hair before inserting the Gokai Silver key into my Gokai Cellular. I crossed my arms over my chest, "Gokai Change!" I shouted, thrusting the hand holding the Cellular into the air and then out in front of me, like I'd seen the original Gai do numerous times during the events of the Gokaiger series.
GOOOOOOOOOKAIGER!!!! A echoing voice announced, as I was enveloped with a silvery light.
When the light faded, I looked down, seeing myself covered head to toe in a spandex-like suit, "it worked!" I cried, twisting this way and that, getting a feel for the suit as it contoured perfectly to fit my body, "it feels like a second skin!"
Suddenly, my body flared with pain as I collapsed onto the deck, writhing in agony and bellowing an inhuman scream of pain. It felt as if my body was trying to tear itself to pieces.
"Gai!" cried Navi, rushing towards me from the door of the living quarters as fast as her tiny wings could take her, "undo the transformation, do it now!"
I could barely hear her over my bellows of pain, but I focused on my real body, the one that wasn't wearing this suit.
With a flash of silvery light, I detransformed, slumping to the deck, falling into unconsciousness.
I woke up to a series of slaps to the face, "c'mon, you idiot, wake up!"
I moaned, cracking my eyelids open, "what happened?"
"You collapsed under the strain of the transformation, you could have died!" Jacob said worriedly, pulling me into a hug, "don't do stupid shit like that again!"
"How am I supposed to fight if I can't transform?" I asked, pulling myself off the ground.
"You could always use these." Navi said, fluttering over to the pair and dropping the small box she was carrying. Inside were six large bracelets, each emblazoned with the Gokaiger symbol on it.
"What are these?" I asked, reaching out to grab one.
"Wait! Don't-"
Too late.
The bracelet leaped out of the box and clasped itself around my wrist as if possessed, all of a sudden I collapsed onto the deck, feeling as though an elephant was sitting on me.
"What's happening!?" I cried, my voice strained as I tried to pick myself up again.
"That's a training brace, you dummy! And I haven't put it to it's proper setting yet! It's built to make you stronger by forcing your body to work harder!" Navi huffed, "why does no one listen to the parrot?"
"Well, get it off!" Jacob cried, clawing at the offending bracelet.
"It won't come off until Gai maxes it out! It won't kill him but he'll be stuck like that until he's strong enough to move again."
Jacob looked as though he was going to complain before I interrupted him, "so, I'm stuck here until I can move again? Fine by me, I guess this means I need to put in a little effort, huh?"
"Dude, are you serious? You literally hit the deck!"
"Please, if I'm gonna be able to fight properly, then I need to be able to equip my suit." I replied, grinning at the pair.
"Well, if you're gonna do it, then I might as well do something stupid too," Jacob said, turning to Navi, "can you adjust one of these so that I can still move around and not make a fool of myself?"
As it turned out, it wouldn't take long to wish that I HAD died that day. Later events proved to be much worse...
