Harmony's Champion
Chapter 21: Abilities of the Shade
Previous Chapter Next ChapterSo, a few hours have passed since I defeated the group of soldiers that had attacked Ponyville, and, currently, myself, Stalker, and the Acolytes were in Canterlot, with Stalker taking me to see Sombra. "So, have you encountered him in your world?" talker asked me, to which I shook my head.
"No, not yet," I replied. Neither of us had our weapons on, and I had on none of my usual armor attachments on. I was just wearing the base Excalibur, and both of us had been waiting outside the throne room for half an hour. "You directly encounter Celestia and Luna here?"
"Only Cadence," Stalker replied. "For which I am thankful, as, and this is simply rumors I've heard, those two have the most elite soldiers and Sentients with them. Even with Dispel and my other abilities, I'd be hard pressed to beat them."
"What other abilities do you have, anyway?" I asked. "I mean, we aren't in Warframe."
"Quite a few," he replied. "Though few are those I would have if I were the actual Stalker. Namely, your abilities-to be expected given how close our Frames are in design- but a few new ones i wouldn't be surprised if you can learn."
"Like what?" I asked as I crossed my arms and leaned against the wall.
"Well, the first one is that, as masters of the Void, I am able to manipulate and redirect magical blasts focused against me, as most magic works on the same concept as Void energy, and is similar in base to it. Though it takes either a while to master it, or a shit load of adrenaline, which is how I got it."
"When?" I asked.
"When some of Cadence's forces attacked Appleossa last week and tried to burn it to the ground. I was the only Shade-the collective name the civies came up for us- there, and had to fight them all back. Shining was there leading them, and he tried to blast me with a magical version of a nuclear level unibeam. Of course, I had music going because that makes sequences even more awesome, and I held my hands up to block it, and wa surprised when it went around me. From there, I just went with it, and was able to repel them."
"Think you could train me in that?" I asked. "Later, of course."
"Yeah, but i make no promises of you being able to do it," he replied. "I talked to Harmony about, and she said it's a rare ability, as Earth ponies can do it. It's rare because, more often than not, regardless of the actual way, it requires the user to make a sacrifice, something important, but also not important at the same time-she didn't elaborate on that- for the power to be unlocked, and even then, one would need to be extremely powerful for their race for it to work."
"Then I'd be surprised if I don't have it," I said. "I mean, I fucking died before coming here, am the first and as far as I know only to get to my Prime form."
"Really? Prime form?"
"Yeah," I said, shrugging. "Got it while helping another Displaced in his universe. Had to kill that Discord, but still."
"You killed a god?" Stalker asked in disbelief.
"With the help of Harmony, yeah," I replied just as the doors opened.
"The King will see you now," a guard said from inside.
"'Bout time," Stalker muttered. "Even with me being a hero of Equestria, the damned nobles think they're more important than I am, when they probably wouldn't have their positions now if it weren't for me and the others!"
"Yeah, they're a pain everywhere," I said as we entered the throne room, and I saw this world's version of Sombra- wearing a purple cape along with black pants and a white shirt. Not a very royal look but, hey, whatever works for ya.
"Hello, Sombra," Stalker said.
"Ah, Stalker," Sombra said. "I thank you for saving another town."
"If you are speaking of Ponyville, it was not me," Stalker said, holding a hand up before gesturing to me as my arms were crossed. "It was him, my mirror version. Excalibur."
"Oh," Sombra said before he bowed his head. "Then you have my thanks, Excalibur."
"It was no issue," I said. "Simply doing what I am meant to do as Harmony's champion."
"Still, my thanks," he said. "Tell me, how is Celestia?"
"No idea," I said. "I tend to avoid those trying to kill or imprison me unless I have to or am able to skewer them." The look on his face was priceless.
"Wh-what?" he said in disbelief.
"Yeah," I said. "Harmony happened to summon me there as that Luna was brought back to Celestia, which made her think I was a last ditch effort of Nightmare-Luna's evil form- to take over Equestria. As such, I've been working outside the law there with some help while avoiding her."
"Wow," Stalker said. "She's an idiot."
"I know, right?"
"But she wouldn't do that!" Sombra said.
"And why's that?" I asked. "Because you've only seen her here in your Equestria, which has had no threats outside of the one Stalker, the Acolytes, and myself are now facing, while Celestia views Equestria as a paradise, and refuses to see reason that I do, and declares whoever actually does something about it a villain to be captured for the betterment of Equestria," I said. "She thinks-quite wrongly, I may add- she is protecting her subjects from me, when it is I and the other Tenno who fight alongside me who are the protectors. She tried to imprison me the first time she saw me, and engaged me in sword combat the next when I had done nothing detrimental to Equestria." Pause for dramatic effect. "You can think whatever you want, Sombra, but those are the facts. Only reason I'm helping is because it's the right thing to do, nothing else."
That could have been phrased so much better.
Shut it. "You need me, I'll be outside," I said. Yeah, I get pissed at stupidity easily. Anyways, with that, I left the room, and made my way to the gardens here, where I saw Discord was currently imprisoned. I also saw Malice- the acolyte resembling Frost minus the shoulder pauldrons and having the Stalker helmet along with various pieces of machinery- and Mania- who had the Loki body with the immortal skin with a Daedalus shoulder plate- talking, their helmets retracted. As I neared a bench, they glanced at me, but did nothing else as I sat down, being the only one who gave bright coloring to this place other than white.
There was a flash next to me on the bench, which then faded to reveal Harmony. "You know, you could have been much more tactful."
"And that would have helped get my point across how?" I asked "If I have to choose between tact and people not get my point and being tactless but them get the point, I'm going with the latter."
If I had to guess, I'd say Harmony rolled her eyes. "You know, Excalibur, even though you are one of my champions, it'd be nice if you tried to respect royalty."
"Hey, royalty is respected," I shot back. "Stupidity, not so much."
Harmony scoffed. "As long as you don't go around killing the nobles."
I looked at her. "Do I look like I would?"
"I don't know, you always have your helmet on," Harmony replied wit a small smile. "In all seriousness, though, Ex, no, not really."
"So, other than berating me," I said as I turned my head to again face forward. "why are you here in person. Er, pony. You know what I mean."
She chuckled. "Nothing much," she said as she leaned back, the bench creaking a little. "It's simply that where I usually reside is extremely bleak, the only things there being the dwellings of those who live there. Other than that, nothing, quite literally. Sometimes, I just need to physically see something with my own eyes, no matter how it appears. Makes for a nice contrast, wouldn't you say?"
"I don't know, I've never been wherever it is you live," I said. "Still, I'd imagine so." A silence passed with that answer before I asked another question. "So, that magic manipulation Stalker has, how exactly was it discovered?"
"I don't know the specifics, I wasn't there," she said. "I'm not an omnipotent goddess like many would think. All I know is that it was an Earth pony mare trying to protect her family from unicorn raiders near three thousand years ago that first discovered it, and that not even Celestia and Luna have it. They are powerful enough, yes, but they have not yet made a large enough sacrifice for it. And before you ask, whatever grants that is out of my control. Some magics are unknown, even to me."
"That rare, huh?"
"Yep," she replied. "Ever since it first happened, only three have had that power- Stalker being the most recent- and two were not even my champions at the time."
"Wow," I muttered as I heard footsteps behind us before something hit the back of my head. "The fuck was that for?!" I asked as i turned around to see Stalker.
"For not controlling that mouth of yours earlier," he replied. He then looked to Harmony. "Harmony. Surprised to see you here."
"Hello, Stalker," Harmony replied. "And thank you for trying to reign Ex in."
"Fuck both of you.
"Someone's testy," Stalker chuckled. "So, Harmony, what's the occasion for a physical visit?"
"The sights," she said before she shuddered a little. "And that would be my cue to leave, as i have something else going on," the goddess said before getting up and stretching a bit. "Before I go, though, Ex, you remember your pre-displacement family, right?"
"How could I not?" I asked. "Why?"
"Because, well. . . let's just say you'll be seeing them again soon." And then, following her usual operation procedure, she said, "Until next time, you two," and then vanished in a flash of light.
"I hate it when she does that," Stalker said.
"Same," I said. "So, about that training?"
