Chapter 33: Cool Down Time

One Eye slowly opened his eye, head throbbing and body aching all over. Wincing and cursing under his breath, the dark king grimaced, trying his best to prop himself up, despite the pain.
"Don't move," he heard a soothing voice say. "You'll only slow down the healing."
Squinting in the light above him, the unicorn stallion gazed at the pony who the voice belonged to. A light brown pegasus mare stared back, a soft smile crossing her muzzle. It took One Eye's frazzled nerves a few minutes to realize who was speaking to him.
"Obsidia?" he coughed, his voice gruff with smoke. The taste of iron tipped his tongue as he spoke and his breath came in ragged gasps.
"Mm," his brother's girlfriend replied with a nod, smiling. "Thank you... For saving Rex. You're a hero now, you know?" she continued, gingerly placing an assuring hoof on his shoulder.
"How dare you," One Eye chuckled before the laughter turned into an explosion of coughing, blood slowly running down the corner of his lip.
Obsidia gazed at the stallion with worry, beckoning over a doctor. "Help him," she said, taking a step back.
“We’ll do what we can,” the suited unicorn replied with an assuring smile, patting the pegasus’s shoulder. Nearby, Rex sat at a bench, tapping an impatient hoof. His hooves were to his face and his mind wandered to his friends and the wounded unicorn he would be happy to now call brother.
Obsidia sat at his side, nudging his shoulder. “He’ll be alright... I hope,” she said, worry lines crossing her face.
-The Next Week-
One Eye stretched his aching legs, jaws gaped to their maximum as he yawned noisily. Pushing aside the blankets that covered him, the unicorn stallion rubbed the tired from his eyes, smacking his lips together. Expecting his vision to be restricted to his right eye, the stallion was surprised to find that his range of view was stretched to his left too. One Eye lifted a hoof to his socket and felt a small glass globe imbedded in his skull. Shock crossed the unicorn's face at the realization that he now possessed a glass eye.
"Ugh... Now they're just sucking up," he grumbled, pushing aside the bed covers with another yawn.
"Not really sucking up... More like rewarding you for your bravery," a voice replied, startling the Tyrant King. Jerking to attention, One Eye spotted Princess Celestia at his bedside, Rex beside her.
"Ah... Heh," he grinned nervously, fully aware of the celestial being's power. His expression morphed to skepticism at the uncomfortable feeling that the two had been watching him sleep. "How long have you been sitting there?" he asked.
"Oh, about ten minutes now... Brother," Rex answered, smiling softly.
"Is this going to become some sort of habit now?" One Eye muttered, rolling his eyes.
"Depends on what you make of it," the broken horned stallion acknowledged, rising and leaving the room. "Nonetheless, I'm glad you finally came to."
