Everything Dies
Chapter 95: Book 5: The Hunt - Chapter 6
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAs soon as the girls materialized in Sunsets' apartment; she turned around and said with a fierce urgency, "Everyone, your phones, your tablets, laptops if you got them; we need to find out everything about this Visoko, Bosnia we can. Is it a city? Is it a small town out in the middle of no where? Geography, population, everything! If Chrysalis is going there we need to know why."
"I think know why she's going there," snapped Rainbow.
"If it's her final destination, then yeah," said Shimmer sticking up for her Equestrian self. "Could be a lay over point as well."
"Or a misdirection," Sparkle added.
"Might be but we have to operate as if it's true," Twilight said.
Soon each girl was looking at whatever device they had brought. Sunset got on her laptop with Adagio on her right and Twilight on her left.
"It says it's a city, the former capital in medieval times," Rarity said reading from her phone.
"Eww; have you ever been there Sonapie?" Pinkie asked excitedly.
Sonata shook her head. "Nah. We tried our best to avoid major cities; less chance of getting noticed. Also less lice."
"Let's focus ladies," Adagio said annoyed.
Sonata leaned over and whispered in Pinkie's ear, "She got a bag case of back in ten forty-three in Venice. She had to shave her whole head. She doesn't like to talk about it."
"Ohhhhhhh," Pinkie whispered back.
"It don't look all that big," Apple said looking at a picture of it.
"It's at the bottom of a really big hill it look likes," Fluttershy said looking at pictures on her phone.
"That's no hill," Adagio said. She didn't quite grasp what it was; she just knew what it wasn't.
"It's a pyramid," Sparkle said in somewhat shock and a little awe.
All the girls looked at the pictures again. Sparkle was right. It's initial shape muddied and covered over by time; once you knew it was there, it stuck out like a sore thumb.
"It's huge!" Rainbow exclaimed.
"And ancient considering how overgrown it is," Adagio said.
"Overgrown or buried?" Twilight asked.
"I'm guessing both," Sunset answered. "No one was supposed to find this."
"Chrysalis did," retorted Twilight.
"Alright," Sunset began, "the city/town is here. It looks fairly far away. Open grasslands in between with a few hedge rows here and there. Only set of trees is here." Sunset pointed to a small growth of trees that started at the base and went up about half way on the one side. "Good thing is no one can sneak up to it. Bad thing is we can't hide anywhere for an ambush."
"Not really," Twilight said. "We still have that patch of woods there. The city is on that side. So most more than likely that's the direction Chrysalis will come from. I'm also pretty sure they wouldn't want spotted by anyone so they'd probably seek that as cover as well."
"Agreed," said Adagio.
Sunset stood up and turned around to face everyone. "Alright. Everyone, pack food, blankets, water, any hygiene products you might need: tooth paste, soap, tampons, whatever; once we're all ready, we're teleporting there and try to stop Chrysalis before she can get inside. Understood?" Sunset spoke as a general getting troops ready for battle. Of course that's exactly what she was and she knew it. Her, Twilight (and to a lesser extent Sparkle and Shimmer) were about to lead these girls in to the greatest battle of their lives. Their fight against her, The Sirens, Midnight Sparkle all paled in comparison.
All the girls either nodded or said something to affirm they knew what to do and went about it. Twilight went to do the same when Sunset grabbed her arm and whispered, "Can we win?"
Twilight nodded and smiled. "We have to," she said.
"Listen, you've done this more than I have. I know we're both incarnates; but once we're there, you should lead."
"No sister; we lead together. You've proven you're more than capable. Now, let's get ready."
Once they had everything packed up that they thought they would need they looked at every photo and map of Visoko they could find. Teleporting was always dangerous, even more so when it was to a place you didn't know. So they made as sure as they possibly could that they knew the area.
"Ok everyone," Twilight said, "form one big circle and hold hands. Incarnates, we'll take the pole positions." Everyone did as they were told. Then Twilight began again. "Close your eyes and concentrate on where we need to go - the base of the pyramid, right before the tree line."
They closed their eyes, some bowed their heads, and all pictured exactly where they wanted to go. In a flash of pinkish, white light they were gone and almost instantaneously they were at the foot of the pyramid. Each slowly opened her eyes and looked. It was early morning there - dark and cold. Still, when they looked up, they all gasped at the sheer size of the edifice.
"My god," Apple Jack in a low, long sigh; overwhelmed.
"He's in there," Fluttershy said in even more hushed tones than normal. "Morgarith; he's in there. I can sense him."
Twilight turned to Apple and asked, "Apple Jack; can you bend the tree limbs to form shelters for us?"
Apple nodded. She raised and moved her hands around. The branches began to move, bend, and twist into little cocoons - five in total.
"Best I can do there. Each one can fit two of us," Apple said apologetically. "I'm afraid if I tried ta make `em any bigger, they'd be too obvious."
"It's fine Apple Jack," Twilight reassured her. "Someone is going to have to be on watch anyhow. We'll do two hour shifts. One person keeps an eye out, the rest stay of us can get some sleep. When one person has completed their shift, they go up to one of the pods up there and get someone else."
"I'll go first," said Adagio.
"You sure Dag?" Sunset asked confused and worried.
"I am," Adagio said flatly.
"Alright, well, I guess Twilight, you and I will take one."
Twilight nodded in agreement.
"Fluttershy and I will take another," Rarity said.
"AJ, you wanna bunk with me?" asked Rainbow.
"Sure," Apple said with a shrug.
"Do you even have to ask?" Pinkie said, holding Sonata's hand.
"Well I guess that just leaves you and me then," Shimmer said to Sparkle.
"I," replied Sparkle.
"Oh for craps' sakes," Shimmer moaned. "First Rainbow, now you! Anyone else wanna kick in the tits for saying the wrong thing?"
"Isn't the expression, 'kick me in the balls'?" Sonata asked confused.
Sparkle whipped around to scowl at Sonata. "I'm a chick; I don't have any."
"Point taken," Sonata replied.
"Well, Dag, you're on watch," Sunset said. "Everyone else to your pods. Just remember; we're not here for revenge. We're here for one reason and one reason only - to keep Chrysalis out of that pyramid at all costs. Personal vendettas aside; the fate of the multiverse is by far more important. Understood?" Everyone nodded. Sunset looked at Rainbow long and hard. "Rainbow?"
"Understood," she replied bitterly.
"One question," Shimmer asked. "What if this takes a couple days? Won't our parents be missing us? I mean how do we explain this?"
"Once this is over we can travel back in time to just after we left. We did it before at the beginning of this journey," Twilight said, remembering when they had all gone to Equestria to talk to the Princesses.
Suddenly Rainbows' head snapped up. "Wait! That's right! We can travel back in time. Why not just travel back to when Chrysalis first crossed over to here and take her out then; before any of this happened? Before . . ." she stopped; tears choked her throat closed at the memory of Soarins' death.
"I'm sorry Rainbow, we can't," Twilight said sympathetically.
"WHY NOT!" Rainbow screamed in rage and sorrow.
Sparkle then stepped up to explain. "Because it would create a temporal paradox. If you go back in time to change something and are successful; then that thing never happened which means you would have had no reason to go back in time in the first place, which means you wouldn't have, which means that thing would have happened, which means you would have a reason to go back, which means you would change it, which means it never happened. which means; do you get?
"Temporal paradoxes are the reasons why many scientist hate the idea of time travel; even though it is theoretically possible. There's been different theories about how to reconcile a temporal paradox. One is that you would create a time loop. That from the time you left to the event when went back to would just repeat endlessly, alternating between the original timeline and the alternate one.
"The second is the new dimension theory. In that you don't change time, you just shift to another dimension where the events you changed never happened. In that case we would be in a dimension where Chrysalis was stopped at the onset, but this dimension, this universe would still be here; we just wouldn't be in it which also means Chrysalis would free Morgarith and The Black Gods of Death. Which means we are all doomed anyhow.
"The third is the God Force theory. In that one, the idea is that time can not be changed because something, some inexplicable force would always stop you. The problem with that is the implication that in order to stop you; this force would have to some sort of intelligence to counter your every attempt. In other words, God. And in science. God is a big no-no.
"The final theory is Universal Destruction. That, at the moment you went to travel back in time to change history, the entire Universe would cease to be because nature can not allow a paradox to exist. In any of those cases, the outcome is futile at best, horrible at worst."
Rainbow just shook her head. "There has to be a way!" she pleaded.
"I'm sorry Rainbow," Sunset said. She had walked over to her and placed her hand on Rainbows shoulder. "I wish there was, I wish we could; but we can't. It's a risk to great."
"Easy for you to say, you have a spare; I don't," Rainbow said to Sunset while looking at Adagio. "Whatever! I'm going to bed." With that, she stormed off.

Some of might think I contridicted my first story with chapter since it ended with Princess Celestia, Twilight, and Sunset resetting the timeline. I assure you I have not and I will be getting to that in a later chapter. And as of right now, I think I have about 7 more chapters to go until the end, so we're almost done. Please hang in there and thank you for coming along so far.
