Everything Dies
Chapter 105: Book 6: Battle - Chapter 3
Previous Chapter Next ChapterThe Incarnates threw up a shield just as a rain of bullets came raining down upon them. Everyone had been so fixated on Chrysalis they never noticed how her men slowly took up attack positions. It was another weakness of theirs. They had never really worked on strategy. They had practiced their abilities on their own but never on how to use them as a whole. Still, this was something that they would have to feel bad about after the battle was over.
"APPLE JACK, SQUEEZE `EM OUT!" Sunset shouted.
Apple dropped to one knee and touched the ground. The plants immediately came alive and engulfed Chrysalis and her army in green cocoons.
The shield was dropped and everyone looked around at each other. Was that it? Was that really it? After all they had been through, after all they had talked and worried about; was that it? It seemed too easy, too quick yet how could they actually survive? They all felt a sickening mixture of unease and happiness. Then they heard the laugh. It was Chrysalis. In an instant, the grasses which had grown around exploded off of her.
"Cute, I give you that," Chrysalis in a jovial manner that somehow sounded like the most menacing thing of all time. "You all have accessed The Goddess Force; that's cute. But, you see, I haven't spent my time with just trying to find this place. Oh no, no, no, no. I've looked for and found a way to access a power far older and more powerful than your puny Goddesses."
"Really? Then how come they weren't able to stop them from locking them up in the first place?" Shimmer asked angrily.
"The question is how come The Goddesses were only able to lock them up? You shown me what you can do, now see what I can!"
The grasses around Aria were the first to disappear. The flew off of her as if being ripped off by a multitude of unseen hands. Underneath she had taken on her demon mode: Pony ears, wings, fangs, and glowing red eyes. Next, all the cocoons around the gunmen burst into flame. As the fires dissipated; they too were shown to have mutated. One had grey, scaly skin, covered in eyes except for it's head which was just a huge muzzle with long, sharp fangs. Between each eye was a thin, whip like tentacle that stook out about fifty-five centimeters. It had short, stumpy arms, talon feet, and two large wings coming from it's back. Another had yellow skin, a head coming out of it's stomach, and it's arms had fused above it's head into what looked like giant pincers. Another was short and squat with one giant eyeball coming out of the top of it's head. It's body gave the impression of being a ball with eight mouths going around it's horizontal circumference. It had thin, twig like arms and legs. The rest followed suite, being a mix match of mutated features that evolution would never in a million years produce on it's own and certainly not on one creature.
"Oh crap," Shimmer said in shock and an impending sense of doom.
"Look at them, aren't my children beautiful?" Chrysalis asked with genuine pride. "Make momma proud," she said and all fifty of the monstrosities attacked.
Apple tried once again to encase them but they easily snapped free. Fluttershy called out and an army of birds, rodents, and bugs all came forth to attack. Some of the creatures spewed fire from their mouths, incinerating all that got near. Others just absorbed what ever attacked them. Pinkie and Sonata used a combination of shape shifting, teleportation, and invisibility to sneak up on their opponents and attack. The Incarnates blasted away with energy bolts from their hands while Rainbow attacked with her sword. Adagio used a combination of both energy blasts and sword play. Sunset touched the ground and caused a patch underneath some of the monsters to turn into molten lava. She then turned it back to normal ground. The creatures just busted back through again.
Twilight looked and saw Chrysalis was almost to the pyramid. She screamed out, "APPLE JACK, LOCK IT DOWN!"
Apple raised her arms and a thick, tangled wall of trees instantly grew around the pyramid. Chrysalis scowled a bit but raised her arms and the whole thing caught on fire. Sparkle waved her arm and storm clouds formed and it started to down pour, putting out the fire. Chrysalis now growled in fury. Still, it was only a set back. She stretched her arms in front of her with the backs touching. She concentrated all her mental force and slowly started to move her hands apart. As she did so, the trees slowly started to part.
Rainbow bisected one of the flying creatures in the air. She looked as it's pieces fell to earth and scanned for another opponent. She quickly saw Aria dodging a blast from Shimmer.
"ARIA!" she screamed at the top of her lungs and dove down to face her. This was her revenge. This was her time to enact final and furious vengeance down upon the one who killed Apple Bloom, Granny Smith, Soarin, and the rest.
Aria looked up and smiled. She immediately flew up to meet her rival. The animals and plants had proved to be a hindrance to her getting at any of the other; but this one was coming straight to her. She would make a glorious first kill.
As soon as the two came within striking distance of each other, both swung and their swords came clanging together in an explosion of sparks and raw fury. Each combatant was thrown back a bit but quickly recovered and charged at each other again. The swung, slashed, swiped, and swooped around each other. There were no quips, no sassy dialog, just two people trying their best to kill each other.
Aria was able to get behind Rainbow and cut one of her wings off. Rainbow fell to the ground and hit with a thud. Rainbow could feel some of her ribs break on impact. Searing, hot pain shot through her body. She felt like she was going to vomit, pass out, or both. Aria dove in for the kill but Rainbow was just able to roll out of the way before she could deliver the killing blow.
Aria landed and slowly walked over to Rainbow who was struggling to get to her feet. "Why fight?" she asked almost seductively. "You can't win. I have centuries of experience. I've fought my way across continents. Do you really think you have a chance against me?"
Rainbow got to her feet and just glared at Aria; blood and saliva dripping from her mouth. "Chance or not, it doesn't matter. I'll only stop when one of us is dead."
"That part was never in question," Aria said and attacked.
Even though she was badly hurt, Rainbow fought on as hard as she could. She could tell Aria was now toying with her which made her angrier. She tried to harness that and push through but her body was rebelling against her. She was losing blood, becoming light headed. Her muscles ached and were seizing up. She found it harder and harder to breathe.
The locked swords one last time, their faces, centimeters apart. Aria looked at Rainbow's face and smiled. She could see the mask of death already being put upon Rainbow. "Are you ready to die?" she asked with a twisted smile.
Rainbow just looked at her and suddenly spit a wad of blood in her eyes. Stunned and enraged, Aria stumbled backwards, leaving herself open. With all the strength she had left; Rainbow lunged forward and thrust her sword straight through Aria's heart. Aria fell backwards and Rainbow collapsed beside her. "You first she whispered."
Adagio saw Rainbow fall and ran over to her. She picked her up and rushed her over to where Rarity was hiding. Rarity gasped as soon as she saw Rainbow. "My god, Rainbow!"
"She took Aria down first," Adagio said as she gently laid Rainbow down. "If you can't save her, know that she'll die well."
"I should be out there. I should be helping," Rarity said in panicked horror.
Adagio gently took ahold of Rarity's shoulders. "You're doing what you're supposed to. You're our healer. You help us keep fighting. There's not much you can physically do out there and if you die, we're all lost. Heal her so she can return to battle."
Rarity nodded and Adagio left to rejoin the battle. Rarity knelt beside Rainbow and laid her hands on her. The two began to glow. Rainbow's wing grew back, her ribs reset and fused back together. Rarity shook and fell down beside Rainbow. Rainbow took one deep breath and sat up.
"Rarity, are you ok?" she asked in fright.
"Y - ye - yes. Just try not to get that badly damaged again ok?" Rarity moaned.
Rainbow was concerned but knew she had to get back out there. She simply nodded, got up, and rushed back out.
As the battle wore on, Apple found herself growing more and more exhausted. Her focus dimmed and she was less able to direct the plants to where they needed to go. Eventually she collapsed and powered down. She crawled her way off the combat field. A couple monsters tried to make a go for her but were stop by one of the other girls. She made her way to Rarity who was still recovering from helping Rainbow.
"I'm sorry darling, I just can't right now," Rarity apologized.
"It's ok sugar cube. I ain't injured, I'm just exhausted. I just need some time to catch my breath; that's all."
"So how is it looking? I can't see much from here."
"We're doin' our best, that's all I can say right now."
"Can we win?" Rarity asked concerned.
Apple just laid there and said, "We're doing our best."
