Chapter 2: What world is this?
Previous Chapter Next ChapterGeralt and Roach traveled the forest in dead silence. The sound of leaves cracking under Roach's hooves and the occasional bird chirp were the only things heard. Roach looked at her master, who didn't have the harness in his mouth, but was looking at his new body.
"Master?" she asked "Is something wrong?"
"Other than the fact that you're talking and I'm a horse thing, no, I'm fine."
"Well, you're a lot more quiet than usual."
"That's because of this!" He gestured to everything. "I've traveled through portals before, but never has one changed me entirely. The worst I've felt is the need to throw up and shorter hair, but that's almost unnoticeable."
"Oh. Well... I'm enjoying this!"
"Of course you would. I've changed and I have to deal with you now. I swear, I better get answers or else I'm-"
"HELP!!!" The scream of a girl was heard, followed by some growls of wolves. Geralt's ears twitch and he could actually where it was. That wasn't to say that his human ears couldn't find anything, but these ears were a lot more sensitive to noise.
"A child, master!" Roach exclaimed "We've got to help it!"
"Yeah... we have to." Geralt replied. He really didn't care if a child was in danger or not, but, for some weird reason, he felt that he'd get some answers. He grabbed the harnesses with his hooves, though not as well if he were a human "Move!!!" Roach ran as fast as her hooves could carry her & Geralt. Riding Roach as a human was fine & normal, riding roach as a horse himself was weird, riding a galloping Roach as a human was normal, but riding a galloping Roach as a horse was probably the most uncomfortable, and dangerous, thing he's ever done. Though he didn't see, Roach was in heaven as he held onto her and fantasized about the experience going one more step. She snapped out of it when the sounds of Wolves howling & growling were close to them. Both Geralt and Roach saw the problem: a lone, yellow filly with a red mane & pink bow cowered in a corner as a pack of seven Tree-wolves were ready to kill. Geralt quickly analyzed the situation.
Hm... wolf/tree hybrids attacking a horse-like-creature as me. Perhaps she was screaming for help... why did I call it a 'she'? Nevermind. Better use the Igni sign on these, and perhaps a silver sword. Now, how do I-?
"WOLVES!!!" Roach screamed as she stood on her hind legs. Geralt fell off and Roach ran away from the tree-wolves, who turned their attention to Geralt. He stood right up, seeing the beasts approaching him.
"Damn Horse." He commented to himself. His horn glowed as he unsheathed a silver sword out and held it in his forelegs as he stood on his hind legs.
Huh... I feel kinda normal. One of the wolves charged at him, snarling. Geralt, holding his sword with his right hoof (unsure how, but not going to question it now), extended his left hoof out and casted the Igni, blowing a wave of fire at the Wolf-plant hybrid. The beast stopped in it's track, yelping in pain before falling into a pile of burnt rubble. The other wolves saw what was left of their pack member, then turned to Geralt, who held his sword, preparing for combat with a noticeable smirk.
Throughout this story, certain videos will be up for music. Listening to them is optional, but it should help enhance the feeling.
"Come and get me." He taunted. The wolf-plants howled and charged at him, followed by a lunge! Geralt rolled under the wolves and quickly got up, turning quickly and slicing off the back legs of the wolf in the back with a single swing. It yelped in pain as it's bottom rested onto the floor, but Geralt quickly decapitated the wolf with another swing, presumably killing it as it's body fell into a pile of sticks. One of the wolf-plants quickly turned and charged at Geralt, flaring it's wooden teeth. Geralt tossed his sword into the air and quickly pulled out a loaded crossbow, firing at the wolf-plant's eyes, blinding it. It yelped in pain, running blindly before colliding with a tree, exploding into twigs. Another wolf followed, but Geralt charged back, jumping over it, quickly catching his sword, and thrusting it down into the wolf-plant's skull, presumably killing it as well. Another charging plant-wolf, Geralt quickly took the dead wolf-plant's head off and thrust it into the other's chest as it lunged for him. It stopped and yelped in pain as it sat on it's tail area, though Geralt took no pity, taking the sword out and slicing it with a clean swipe from the left side of it's neck to the bottom right leg. Yet another charged at him, but Geralt readied his blade and, with one vertical swipe, he sliced it in half before it could lay a single twig on him. The last one stared at Geralt, then looked around, seeing that not only Geralt not take a single damage on him, but by the fact that it's allies were dead. Geralt walked to the last one, preparing his sword for the final kill. It whimpered and ran away with it's tail in between it's legs.
"Heh, too easy." Geralt commented to himself, sheathing his sword and standing back on all legs instead of the two. The filly he saw peeked it's head from around a tree, still afraid, but at the same time, grateful. Geralt walked to the filly... but fell onto his face. "...ow." He looked up from his spot, seeing the filly walk to him, but cautiously.
"A-are ya'll aright, mister?" she asked in a small, weird accent.
"Yeah. Just not use to walking this."
"Walkin'? But 'yer a pony like me! You should be walkin' like it's nothing!"
"Well, I'm not from here."
"... Oh! Ya'll are new here, ain't ya?"
"That's what I just said."
"How can ah forget! Mah name's Applebloom. What's yours?" He stood right up.
"Geralt of Rivia."
"... What?"
"That's my name."
"... Yeah... I'm just gonna call ya'll Gary, okay?"
"That's not my-"
"But Sweet Celestia, you took on them Timber Wolves like it was nothing, Gary!"
"...Timber wolves?"
"They're local around here in the Everfree forest."
"...Everfree forest?"
"Oh! Ah keep forgetting that ya'll are new here! Ah was on mah way home from Zecora's house, but them Timberwolves attacked me! Come on, mah family is probably freaking out that I'm gone! I'm sure they'll understand when you're around. Come on, I'll take ya'll to Sweet Apple Acres!"
"Sweet Apple Acres?"
"That's mah family's home! The heart and founders of Ponyville!"
"...Ponyville?"
You have GOT to be kidding me! He yelled to himself inside.
"Come on!" Applebloom cheered "Mah home's not too far away!" Geralt rolled his eyes and followed... with another encounter of his face with the floor.
"...Ow." He commented.
"...Seriously?" Geralt got up again.
"Screw this!" He whistled for Roach again. Roach's head came out of a bush, looking around nervously.
"Are they gone?" she asked
"Ugh, yes, Roach. They're gone." Roach exited the bush, but stopped at Applebloom.
"Oh! Aw, hello there little cutie! What's your name?"
"Mah name's Applebloom." She replied happily, though she quickly turned to curiosity. "Who are you?"
"My ride." Geralt replied bluntly. "Hold still!" He jumped onto Roach's back, scrambling to get himself positioned right. Applebloom stared, looking flabbergasted at the sight.
"The hay is Gary doing?"
"Oh, don't worry about Master." Roach replied "It's something we always do. Though, he used to stand on two legs, and had... what are they called again?"
"Move!" Geralt ordered "Move or else you're going to get eaten."
"Oh shoot!" Applebloom yelled "Timberwolves don't come alone, and more come back! Follow me, qucik!" She sprinted her way at a speed that would make any race horse back home look as slow as a snail. Both Geralt and Roach stared ahead with blank faces, but snapped out of it, chasing the filly to escape the forest.
After a few minutes of Sprinting (at least on Roach's part), Geralt and Roach came out of the forest to see Applebloom hopping for them under the moon's light.
"Come on!" she quipped "Mah home's not too far now!" Roach followed the filly, but Geralt took notice of the village near them; Unlike the other villages back homes, these homes weren't as flimsy, but looked liked they could take a beating from most things. Around the town, Geralt saw a building that was taller than the others, a schoolhouse in the distance, some tracks for some sort of machinery, and, the thing that caught his attention, was a large castle made out of crystals. Geralt and Roach stared at the castle in awe of how it looked liked a tree, but also seemed to glow on it's own.
"Who lives there?" Geralt asked.
"Where?" Applebloom asked, then turned to the castle. "Oh! That's where Princess Twilight Sparkle lives, Gary."
"Princess?"
"Yeah. She's new to this, but ah think that, in the future, we'll be just as fancy as Canterlot."
"Canterlot?"
"...You've got a lot to learn on 'yer hooves."
After a while of traveling, Geralt and Roach followed Applebloom into a farm. The farm had a homey feel to it, something Geralt didn't encounter a lot, and trees surrounded the farmhouse, all with large, red apples that looked ripe enough to eat. The lights of the barn turned on, and the silhouette of another one of the horse-creatures exited the house.
"Applebloom!?" It asked in the same, though more noticeable, accent. "Is that ya'll!?"
"Sure is, A.J.!" Applebloom replied. The other figure sprinted and tackled Applebloom.
"Where have ya'll been!? What took ya'll so long!? Ya'll had me worried!"
"I'm sorry, A.J.! I was on mah way home from Zecora's when Timberwolves attacked me!"
"Timberwolves!? How'd ya'll get out?"
"That's where Gary came in."
"Gary?" A.J. looked up and saw Geralt sitting on Roach, as Geralt looked at A.J. Geralt saw that A.J. was an orange mare with what appeared to be a yellow mane & tail in a ponytail (to which he chuckled on) and three red apples mirroring on each flank. A.J., however, saw Geralt's yellow-orange eyes, looking like a predator, as well as his scars and the armor he was wearing. She then looked at Roach, seeing how normal she looked compared to Geralt, though wondered why he was on her. The two stared at each other for a while.
"...Hi." Geralt spoke, breaking the silence.
"...Why are ya'll riding her?" A.J. asked "Ya'll do realize that it's unnatural for ponies to ride each other unless one's crippled or it's... for the house."
"We're new around here, so this is normal."
"He's ridden my back multiple times!" Roach added "But now, it feels... ~good."
"Shut up!" A.J. stared for a bit, but signaled Applebloom. The filly nodded and went inside the barnhouse.
"Who are ya'll?" A.J. asked
"The filly calls me Gary. My real name is Geralt of Rivia."
"And I'm his steed, Roach!" Roach added
"What did I just tell you?" A.J. observed the two, seeing Geralt's swords.
"So I take it that this is standard?" A.J. asked, her eyebrow raising.
"No. From where I'm from, Roach here never spoke at all."
"I did!" Roach replied "You never listened!"
"Do you want me to cast an Axii on you again!?"
"...Uh-huh." A.J spoke, sitting on her flank while crossing her forelegs like arms "And Ah take it that them scars and swords aren't just for show?" Geralt looked at her, giving her his angered look on people who don't believe or listen to him.
"Do I look like the type of person that just does this for show?"
"You'd be surprised. How do I even know if ya'll did kill Timberwolves?"
"...There was seven of them, All surrounding your sister, ready for the kill. Roach screamed and I fell. Got up to my feet and readied for combat. Killed six out of the seven; last one ran away in fear."
"And what weapon did ya'll use to 'kill' them timberwolves with?" Geralt pulled out his silver sword. A.J. saw the sap & twigs on it, followed by the stench of Timber wolves.
"Is that good enough?
"... Good enough. So what is it ya'll want? Ah doubt that ya'll just rescued mah sister out of the good of ya'lls heart."
"What makes you say that?"
"There's something about ya'll that doesn't scream 'Nice guy' at all. Ah figure you want some money. Is that it? Ya'll just want some bits from saving mah little sis?"
I'd like some pay.
Just wanted to help.
