Chapter 44: Chapter forty three: The second bomb
Previous Chapter Next ChapterNathan sighed in relief as he finished reading the message sent to him by Metal, informing him that the bomb they were after had been defused and that the magic within it was now being kept in Metals claws. He shrank down into his stallion form and climbed onto his bed with his fiancé, who was currently checking over the now larger eggs, seeming only a few weeks away from hatching. "You've been around the eggs a lot more often recently." Nathan spoke as he lay down beside his lover while nuzzling her.
"You're one to talk, you're practically their own personal sentry you're that protective of them." Sonata teases as she kissed him on the cheek.
Nathan just rolled his eyes and placed a hoof on the orange egg. "Can you really blame me though?"
"No, I can't, not with everything that's happening. But don't you be worrying about that stuff right now, the others are handling it. For now, just be here with me and the eggs, relax." She spoke with a hushed and reassuring tone as she placed her hoof on her partner's and leaned into him, feeling the warmth of his fur. She was used to feeling the coldness of his metal, which she actually liked, wing used to the cold, but she loved feeling the warmth of his organic body, whether that be human or pony.
Nathan gave a quiet happy sigh as he snuggled up with his mare, perfectly content with his position.
"You know, I could call my sisters here and we could all have a little fun." Sonata giggled as she saw her fiancé deadpan and facehoof.
"I've already got enough kids, I don't want to risk having more with two other mares. Besides..." Nathan wrapped one of his front legs around Sonata and pulled her closer. "...we both know you aren't willing to share."
"You're not wrong. But joking aside, I'm perfectly happy to just sit here and nuzzle."
"Couldn't agree more."
Meanwhile
Katie, Sapphire, Krystal and Zane stood around the defused bomb they had found in Canterlot, each believing it had been too easy to find the device, and were wondering whether or not it was bait or some sort of trap set for them. "Look, we all think this is a trap, mainly meant for us, so why don't we try to get away from the most populated area of the city?" Krystal asked dryly as the group realised they were standing in the central part of the city.
They all nodded while Zane picked up the defused bomb and placed it in his inventory, planning to hand it to Metal later on.
"The Maniacs aren't exactly competent unless Hack or Carnage are running things, and I know Hack is out of commission, at least for now, due to Nathan beating him down, and Carnage would probably be too busy working on the bombs." Katie stated as she and the others jumped down into the streets below and began to move towards the outskirts of the city.
"Yeah, but with something like this you'd think they'd be more careful about it." Krystal countered as they walked out of the city and began to slide down the mountainside.
"Maybe they have some sort of deadline and have to rush?" Zane guessed, blasting a rock that was in his path.
"Who cares? We found the bomb and no one was hurt, we win right?" Sapphire, who was riding on Zanes back, asked with a raised brow.
"We care, The Maniacs are dangerous, that's something you and everyone else need to understand." Katie answered as the group reached the bottom of the mountain, landing somewhere in the Everfree Forest. "Maybe they are rushing things, but we can't be too careful, especially now since they've got their hands on Apocalypse Magic."
Sapphire just shrugged and kept her grip on Zanes back while the group walked along the dirt path, blasting any smaller predators that tried to attack them for whatever reason. All the while, Sapphire looked to the only gun she was allowed to have, the Tesla Claw. Until she could prove that she could control herself and stop acting without thinking, she would get her weapons back. She missed the RYNO 2 the most, it was the most fun and powerful one in her arsenal.
Suddenly, a pack of Timberwolves jumped out of the shadows and surrounded them, growling and scratching the ground in anticipation. "It's alright, everyone in a circle, back to back, don't let them separate us." Krystal instructed as the three robots and child took the positions. Whisk any other day they'd have thought twice about allowing a child to fight, they knew what she had went up against and what she had survived so far.
Sapphire glared at the wooden wolves before giving her own snarl, slowly walking towards them.
"Sapphire get back here!" Zane called out worriedly as he reached over to pull her back, but was justnout of reach.
Sapphire clenched her fist and placed her finger over the trigger for her gun. A wolf lunged forward only for the girl to back up and throw a punch, shattering its head as it fell to the ground. Without looking Sapphire pointed the Tesla Claw at another wolf and zapped it, burning the wood and destabilising the creatures body. The wolves all turned their attention onto her, being the only organic and being an obvious danger.
The three bots stood ready to attack if things went wrong, but knew to stay out if it. It must have been important for Sapphire, a moment she had to experience herself, considering her hair was beginning to sparkle while her body sparked with blue electricity.
"You know, I'm glad you just showed up. Because I need to blow off some steam." She grabbed one by the face and threw it into another, sparking with energy on collision. One managed to sneak up in her and pounced onto her, knocking her to the ground. It was about to bite her face when she jammed the Tesla Claw into its neck and pulled the trigger.
While she was on the ground the rest pilled on top of her, scratching and biting her body savagely.
Zane went to run in and help, but Katie stoppped and pointed to the blue glow emitting from inside the literal dog pile. "Just watch."
Sapphires anger grew with the pain she felt, as well as her mind going back to the confrontation with her father. She struggled to find a way out, growing more and more frustrated and angry. As her emotions grew, so did her power. After a few moments of her body glowing, Sapphire burst out of his prison of recently made corpses. The three others could only stare at what lay before them, the amount of dead Timberwolves and Sapphires new look.
