Chapter 74: Act IV, Epilogue: Ashes of War

*December 25, 2016*

Dear Princess Twilight,

If you are reading this, this means Skirmish delivered this message, I left in the middle of the night and sold her the old house. I sincerely apologize if I caused you any worry.

As you know, my sentence, as well as my service to Ponyville, is at an end. I have moved along, as we all must one day, but I will never forget what you, and your, our, friends, have done for me.

When I first entered your world, I was only a blind coward, fearing for my life and expecting everything to go wrong, which, of course, it did. But it wasn't what transpired before my enemies banded together, but after, that have truly touched me.

You and your friends had shown me mercy, integrity, adherence, joy, and selflessness after you realized your error, and as you forgave me my transgressions, I forgave yours. I guess that's this 'Magic of Friendship' you ponies keep going on about.

But, of course, I will come and visit whenever I have the chance. And I will tell everyone about what new joys have since met my presence, and what matters I'll take with you. And, when the day comes, we'll meet again, to fight the forces that feed on chaos as a team.

But, unfortunately, like how I shall never forget the good you all have shown me, I shall never forget the evils that dwell within me as well. I'm still tortured at night by inner demons and my own fears. My condition, though it has improved substantially, is still unfavorable.

Princess, what I'm trying to say is, your teachings have been invaluable to someone such as myself, who has, since that awful day so many months ago, has grown into so much more than a scared kid waiting for when everything fell apart, with friends and even a lover by my side. This, princess, I won't soon forget.

But through all of the blessings in my life, these blood red shadows will haunt me always.

Your faithful student,

Captain Alexander G. Walker

P.S.

Happy Hearth's Warming... I heard that was a thing, so...

I'm horrible with holidays. I'm sure you can tell.

Gmod Guess Who, Yang Rage, Channel Update: We're Back!

"Hey, what is up guys? Vanoss here. And I just wanted to let you know that I'm back! I survived the whole war and everything. My friends are also back and everyone's fine, and I just wanted to let you know that now that we're all here with all of our old equipment, we should be making videos normally again. Be sure to check out my new friends' channels RWBYOnline and KatPlays, be sure to leave a like, and I hope you enjoy the video." Vanoss said, voicing over Garry's Mod footage in the background.

The rest of the video had featured Vanoss, his friends, as well as Blake and Yang, playing the game as if nothing had happened prior to their return. The video got at least double it's usual viewership and the comments were mostly positive, congratulating the gang on surviving what should have been, and could have been, the apocalypse.

----

As Blake and Yang were playing video games with Vanoss and the others, Weiss was writing to her father about what had happened, and that she survived the ordeal, as well as a plea to stay at the Academy. Ruby herself had been talking to Twilight what was happening, as well as when they would be coming to see Rainbow's first flight show as an official Wonderbolt. Ruby was ecstatic at the thought, and texted as many people as possible seeing when they would show.

"AT LEAST LET ME GET SOME FOOTAGE FOR THE CHANNEL, EVAN!!" Yang flared in anger.

"Yang, calm down." Blake dismissed.

"Will you two be quiet?! Can't you see I'm trying to concentrate!!" Weiss yelled, having moved onto studying.

Ruby couldn't help but laugh a little, similar to the rest of Vanoss' friends who she could actually hear through Blake's and Yang's headphones, as she finished up her text and sent it to Twilight.

----

Kat and Mako had long since returned to Earth, received their medals, hailed as war heroes, and once Kat had voiced her desire to help rebuild the country. Chancellor Smith had given her a job as a Senator for the Federation's new Parliament, and Mako had been provided with the duty of spearheading the nation's military and Intelligence programs, as the Federation was still young and, unfortunately, retained the same political enemies from when the United States was still the dominating power of the region.

At the moment, though, Smith, Kat, and many others were all still working on a new constitution, taking pointers from history as well as from Celestia and the councils on Remnant, as well as Supreme Leader Krete from Adenien, all of whom agreed to help the young nation until it would be determined that the Federation didn't need it anymore.

At the moment, though, Kat was filling Mako in on all of the progress that they were getting through on the constitution.

"All in favor of retaining the right to free speech, free press, and freedom of religion?" Hunter asked of the other senators and delegates.

"Aye!" The uproar had been unanimous.

"Motion carries!" Hunter announced as he quickly began typing out the new constitution

--

Twilight and her friends had all gathered at the town square, unveil a memorial that all the craftsmen had been working at for days to remember the ponies, and humans, who gave their lives for the defense of Equestria. Twilight and Mayor Mare had been given their speeches, the statue was unveiled, of humans and ponies, fighting side by side, forever immortalized in stone at the center of the town square.

"...And let us remember our heroes, and honor their memory forever.." Twilight finished.

Cake had been passed, conversations had been exchanged, memories shared.

Skirmish had been eating a slice of cake by herself, with only her mother, when Twilight stepped towards her.

"P-Princess!" Skirmish bowed.

"Come on, there isn't need for any of that. We're friends, right?" Twilight had said.

"I... I guess you're right." Skirmish sat down.

"Listen.. I'm sorry about what happened to Ember and the others.. There was nothing you could've done.." Twilight sighed.

"And that's the worst part.." Skirmish sighed.

"L-Listen.. I want to promote you to the Equestrian Honor Guard.." Twilight spat out quickly.

Skirmish's ears swiveled in surprise. The Honor Guard consisted of Royal Guardsmen hand-picked by the four Alicorns, and we're often chosen to do the most dangerous work, most of which was meant to be kept secret. The Honor Guard were held in very high regard, hence the name.

"I... Thank you, Princess..!" Skirmish bowed again.

"It's the least I could do." Twilight smiled.

"I won't let you down, princess!" Skirmish stood proudly.

"I know you won't."

----

Alex was led up the mountainsides of Expectans, a rather misty and cool part of Vitylis, a dimension that was at least somewhat like Remnant, in terms of the constant monster attacks. Expectans itself reminded Alex of coastal England due to the persistent rainy weather.

"Boy, we are almost at the top! Hurry up!" His mentor, an aging, somewhat bitter, and persistent ex-Adenienite migrant by the name of Canis. Ozpin had asked Canis to train Alex, and had offered him a lot of money for him to do so.

Alex eventually claimed up the moist and slippery ridge to the top of the mountain. Canis never explained to Alex why they were going up there, but Canis only told him to, quote, "never mind all that and hand me the pickaxe".

Once Alex had finally pulled himself up, he was standing in front of a small wooden-and-concrete shack that looked like it could only fit two people. The shed out back was filled with what appeared to be combat gear and metal.

"Hey, Master Canis? If I may ask, why are we up here?" Alex asked politely.

"Boy, welcome to your new home for the next year. This place has got it's own metalwork shop, combat training area, and comms tower." Canis answered.

"Comms tower..?" Alex wondered. He didn't really see any defining features, and the shack, in no way, shape, or form, looked like it had any of that inside.

"Yes, boy. It's multidimensional, so you could talk to anyone you wish. Now, didn't you say you had a little girlfriend or something?" Canis snapped back.

"Er... Yes. Why?" Alex asked.

"Test the stupid thing out for me. What good is a nonfunctioning comms rig in the middle of this dump? Hurry now, before I change my mind!" Canis yelled.

'This is going to be a long year,' Alex thought glumly as he straightened his back and nodded.

"Yes, Canis." Alex nodded, running inside.

Once stepping inside, he scraped the mud off his boots, hung up his wet coat, and removed his soaking wet over shirt, leaving only a tank top that showed both of his mechanical arms. He tied the over shirt to his waist and searched for the comms area, which was likely downstairs, a downstairs which Alex only knew about because of the open door revealing a dimly lit stairwell.

Alex quickly ran down the stairs, and turned to the right, only to be surprised by the sight of a rather futuristic and expansive basement. A large square ring with various droids hung on the walls indicated a training area, and a large interface with numerous screens meant some kind of communications rig. Alex stepped over, pressed the on button, and sat down.

"Hello, Alex Walker, this is Andromeda. how may I assist?" Andromeda asked.

"Andromeda? Weren't you the A.I on the Iliad after it went kaput?" Alex asked.

"Yes, it is good to see you again. So, who do you want to talk to?" Andromeda wondered.

Alex quickly cleared his throat.

"Yang Xiao Long of Oum Alpha 0-12?" Alex asked.

"Interesting choice... Did you two finally-" Andromeda prattled on.

"Yes. We sorta got together after the battle.." Alex groaned in reply.

"I was wondering when you'd finally get the message. I'll dial her up for you."

The screen quickly changed to a dial tone before a camera feed from Yang's scroll finally materialized on screen.

"Oh, hey Alex! I didn't think I'd see you for a while, how's training?" Yang waved.

'Oh, Damn it, it works.' Alex thought.

"Hi. My mentor wanted me to check to see if this comms rig actually worked, so I figured it would be nice just to check in on you guys. How's everything at Vale?" Alex asked.

"Everyone's finally starting to relax and everything. Most of the businesses in Vale reopened, the Vytal Festival was scheduled for next year, and they finally patched up Beacon so classes finally started back up. Where are you at, anyways?" Yang wondered.

"Some mountain up in Vitylis. It's cold and rainy as hell out here." Alex shrugged.

"And you're stuck there for the next year. Starting to regret waiting?" Yang asked.

"I have to keep up my strength or I won't be ready in case Cinder finally get her shit together and attacks you guys or something." Alex sighed.

"Calm down. I mean, we arrested Torchwick a few months back, and nothing's really happened since the battle. I mean, the White Fang is starting to mellow out so I don't see any reason to worry. It's all over." Yang scoffed.

"I still can't help but feel like something is still wrong, something big." Alex admitted.

"You worry too much. Most of us made it, and everything's starting to be rebuilt. Just relax for once." Yang smiled.

"As much as I'd like to, I still can't shake the feeling that something else is going to tear all this down... " Alex sighed. He knew he felt something, and when Alex had a gut feeling, he usually wasn't far off. What could possibly be going on..?

--

Roman Torchwick sat in his cell, bored out of his mind as per usual.

"This is so non-canon it hurts." He groaned.

'Roman..! You will be haunted by three gho-o-osts..! And they're all us.' Emerald's voice taunted as Mercury, The White Fang Lieutenant, and herself appeared in front of him.

'Hi.' All three said at once.

"Salem-dammit, I hate Christmas." Roman groaned.

Roman soon heard a series of loud explosions, and they were close.

"Stop them from getting Torchwi-" An Atlesian guard fired his assault rifle before being shot through the skull.

Thinking quick, Roman ducked, only to find Cinder, Neo, and a third person he could not see pry open his cell door.

"Took you long enough, Cinder." Roman scoffed as Cinder led him out.

"Roman. It's nice seeing you again, but unfortunately, our plans have been halted.." Cinder began.

The third person and Neo grabbed him by his arms and sharply pulled him up. Neo handed him his cane, and they set off for the escape pods on the now-burning Atlesian Airship Roman had been imprisoned in, hundreds of guards poured out of every door, firing their weapons, but unable to do anything as the four escaped off the Airship as Cinder typed the coordinates.

"So, what now?" The third person, an armor-clad warrior asked.

"We'll go back and lick our wounds. We'll let Ozpin, and his brats, and the Adenienite think they've won, until we finally show them they're wrong." Cinder replied, eyes glowing a sinister orange color.

"I'm coming for you, Alex Walker."

Author's Notes:

It's over... It's done..

Well, that was 9 months well spent. How about you guys?

By the way, as I already said, there will be a sequel.
But there's a small catch.
I need a bit more experience before I get back into this story. As I mentioned in a comment, I admittedly tried a multi-crossover fan fiction way, way too early. I kinda bit off more than I could chew with this.
Bit it was really cool to see how much you guys enjoyed the story! I was happy with a lot of the positive comments and I loved answering your questions. I look forward to seeing you guys in some of my future stories.
Now to actually like and favorite other people's stuff and think about silly one-shots to pass the time.

Edit:
I added a small segment (That I've since made adjustments to) hinting the sequel. Figured I should've added all of that earlier, but hindsight is 20/20.
