Blood Red Shadows
Chapter 42: Act II, Chapter 15: Equestrian Electro-Naut Part I of II
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAlex was hidden in the bushes near where the Rogue Guard's convoy would be.
Vinyl and the Scratchbolts had argued against it, and Iris had estimated that there was a very slim chance of survival for Alex, but he knew what had to be done.
He had to track this convoy. He didn't know where they were going or what they were planning, but it was a start.
Readjusting his makeshift ghillie suit, he used a pair of binoculars that Flitter let him borrow to see where he could find a spot to latch onto.
Alex knew this was likely a very bad idea, Vinyl had said his new armor wouldn't be finished for at least another 12 hours, but this was his one chance. Missing it meant losing any lead he had on what the Inquisitors were planning.
He saw the convoy; One Landkreuzer in front, followed by everything from Semi-trucks, Royal Guard Chariots repurposed into technicals, and M1 Abrams tanks to Helicopters, Fighter Jets and Bullhead VTOLs from Remnant. This was them, all right.
Sneaking on was going to be difficult, finding a suitable location for the Tracker that Iris and Vinyl put together was going to be even worse, as foot soldiers patrolled the surrounding vehicles.
Taking the Intervention Sniper Rifle that the Scratchbolts acquired, he went over a checklist of those he really did not want to run into.
Beta, check.
Gamma, check.
Sigma, check.
Epsilon, check.
Jäger... Nowhere to be found.
This likely wasn't a good thing.
"Alex, come in." Vinyl demanded.
"I'm here, V. If you could see the shit they got here." Alex muttered
"Just sit tight, I'm having Cloudy and Flits distract the air support so you have more of a chance." Vinyl said.
"Two things; one, are we really using pet-names on a military op? Two, that likely isn't the best idea, since these A-holes are armed to the teeth, even without air superiority." Alex sighed.
"Also, I have one other objective for you. Y'know about Mako, right?" Vinyl asked.
"Let me guess, you want me to save her, on top of getting that tracker on the convoy, and getting out of this alive, despite the fact that I have no armor." Alex concluded grimly.
"It's the best we can do for now, Celestia's Guard is pinned down out near Dodge City, and Twilight and the others are helping me build you the armor, It should be finished sooner than I thought." Vinyl elaborated.
"What good is armor if I'm not alive to use it?" Alex asked.
"Shut up, Alex. Let Iris do her thing." Vinyl argued.
"Iris? What the actual f*** are you thinking?" Alex gasped
"It's the best I can work with right now, most of Team Unity is out doing Destoyer knows what, and besides, you of all people insisted on taking this op." Iris retorted.
"Touché." Alex relented.
Alex stalked out, stopping on occasion to keep up the impression that he was nothing more than a bush.
"I am the master of my own bladder..." Alex whispered to himself as the convoy drew near. The sounds of multiple engines threatening to deafen the 15 year old.
He dove into a crawl, moving as fast as he could without being spotted, the dread of being discovered coursing through his system.
Once he was in the Mega-Tank's blind spot, he climbed up some loose steel lining the tank, hoping this would suffice as cover as well as a ladder, it seemed to be doing well enough.
What was that?
It looked like a ventilation shaft, it was wide enough for a person to fit through if they were thin enough, let alone a tracker.
"V, I found a vent on the tank, it might work as a spot for the tracker." Alex reported.
"I don't know, it could potentially interrupt the signal to the computer here. I'll have Iris test it." Vinyl replied.
"Alex, it will not suffice. Find something else. Maybe a little bit behind the bottom end of the tank, perhaps." Iris suggested.
"Screw that! the rest of the convoy is over there, I'm in too deep as is." Alex replied.
"Try the front end of the tank, It's slightly less exposed, and the engineers can't exactly see you that well." Vinyl suggested.
"WILCO." Alex nodded, shutting off the radio.
He climbed down as quick as he could, noticing the small porthole that the tank had.
"Jäger, I don't think that killing the woman is the best idea." One man said.
"Why is that? She's useless to us. Besides, I have a score to settle with the CIA, anyways." Jäger scoffed.
"She doesn't seem to care about this case as much. If you're telling me you're going to kill a surrendering agent, then you're not much better than they are!" Another yelled.
"Eh, I've committed enough war crimes in my career, what's one more?"
"You son of a bitch!" The first yelled.
All Alex heard from there was the sound of a knife ripping through flesh, and the fading screams of that soldier.
"I will not tolerate this insolence, next time we stop, get the Agent. Innocent or not, torture them long enough and they'll cave." Jäger seethed.
"Y-yes sir!"
Alex couldn't exactly say he didn't expect this from someone like Jäger, but it was a little hard to believe that he would do the very thing he stopped Winchester from doing so long ago.
Alex was now inches above the ground, hanging on for dear life and he placed the tracker on the bottom of the tank, seeing a little light filter through the mechanics of the tank.
He dropped down and rolled onto his chest, hoping his ghillie would convince the rest of the convoy he was nothing more than a bush.
Cars and chariots rolled over him, not noticing the boy.
Alex didn't move, didn't breathe, didn't even blink as the rest of the convoy rolled over him.
Once the last vehicle had passed him, he took out his sniper.
"V, tracker has been placed, infiltrating the convoy now." Alex reported.
"Nice. Once you're in, I'll have Cloudchaser and Flitter take out the air support." Vinyl sounded impressed.
"Gotcha."
Alex looked down his scope, it would be easiest to pose as another Crimson soldier.
He put on the suppressor, and aimed for the soldier's neck.
Firing, the soldier's body fell over, dead.
Alex snuck up to the corpse, removing the ghillie suit and putting on the Crimson soldier's clothes, thankfully, it included a balaclava.
They didn't exactly fit, the undershirt was a size too large, and the pants cut off most of the circulation to his toes, but it was close.
Placing the Ghillie on the dead soldier, he stole his rifle and caught up with the rest of the patrol.
Another soldier nudged Alex in the soldier.
"Vickers, where the hell were you?" The soldier asked him.
"Craziest thing happened, man. I saw a sniper lookin' at the convoy, so I shot him in the neck." Alex shrugged.
"You okay, mate? Your voice seems a little wonky." Another soldier asked.
"Just a bug, dude." Alex nodded in reply.
"Whatever you say, Vick."
"When do we stop? My legs are killing me!" Alex groaned.
"I know! It's not like we're marathon runners!" The first agreed.
"Quiet! The CO is giving us dirty looks!" The second urged.
Alex saw Sigma walking towards the three, pretty much in sync with the rest.
She specifically stopped in front of Alex.
"Lance Corproal Vickers?" She asked.
Alex did something he never thought he'd do in his life. He saluted Sigma.
"Yes, Ma'am?" He asked.
"Our associate is asking you to oversee the interrogation on our prisoner." Sigma explained.
"Me?" Alex asked, completely blindsided.
Every fiber of Alex's being pleaded to take the rifle at his side and kill his enemy, but he had to be at least somewhat convincing.
"Why not? After all, you are Silas Kahn's assassin, aren't you?" Sigma asked.
"Yes, Ma'am." Alex replied.
Sigma walked away, looking at him one more time.
"I feel like I should know you from somewhere else..." Her voice trailed off as she walked away again.
Alex sighed, was he just that lucky?
"Dude, you seem a bit scared. You good, mate?" The second soldier asked.
"Yeah, sure." Alex cleared his throat.
"I almost feel sorry for ya, Jäger is really strict." The first scoffed.
"I know, man." Alex sighed.
"Wait, really?" The second asked.
Oh, crap.
"Oh! You're talking about Jäger! I thought you were thinking about someone else!" Alex fake-realized.
"Whatever you say, Comrade Vickers." Another added.
"Hey, Simon!" The first greeted.
"Greetings to you too, Comrade Monaco." Simon nodded in reply.
"Guess what? Vickers here was assigned with Jäger for some interrogation." The second reported.
"Oi, poor kid." Simon cringed.
"Alright, listen up, maggots!" A loud voice commanded.
"Dudes, clam it!" Alex urged.
"Sergeant's pet." Monaco scoffed.
"We're about to stop any minute to refuel! I need Lance Corporal Vickers and Corporal Schmidt up here immediately to oversee interrogation." The CO ordered.
"That's your cue, man. See you on the other side." Monaco slapped his back.
Alex ran up to where the CO was, with him was another soldier, about eighteen years old.
"Lance Corporal Vickers reporting for duty, sir!" Alex saluted.
"Alright, you too. Meet up with Jäger in the front tank, he'll give you the rest of the details." The CO nodded.
"I-" Schmidt gasped.
"Corporal Schmidt and I got this under control, sir." Alex assured.
"Get out of my sight, maggots!" The CO ordered.
Alex and Schmidt ran towards the tank as fast as they could.
Jäger immediately greeted the two.
"Soldiers, listen to me very carefully. We're interrogating a suspected collaborator of Alex Walker. Do not hesitate to kill her if she does not do as I say." Jäger ordered.
"Yes, Sir!" Alex saluted.
"Very good, we're going in." Jäger nodded, opening the door.
Alex, Schmidt, and Jäger piled into the room, where another soldier's corpse remained, as well as a 20-something year old woman tied to a red-hot post.
Alex fell in line across from Schmidt, now all he had to do was wait.
Schmidt turned to Alex, unfolding the mask, mouthing the words 'I got this, Walker.' Before slipping it back on.
Alex blinked in surprise, how the hell did this total stranger know who he was?
"Agent Mako Cerise. Glad to see you here." Jäger mocked.
"I don't have time for this, Jäger! For the last time, I didn't have anything to do with the case!" Mako pleaded.
Alex aimed his rifle at Jäger, but didn't get a chance to shoot before Schmidt pulled out an M1911 pistol and shot Jäger through the neck, leaving him gasping for air. While Schmidt got to freeing Mako, Alex walked up to Jäger
Alex removed his mask in front of Jäger, revealing his identity before he grabbed Jäger's blood-splattered hunting knife and stabbed him in the throat.
"Go to sleep, you bastard..." Alex held Jäger's mouth as his eyes dulled and his breath silenced forever.
"Took you long enough. Who's the kid?" Mako asked.
"Walker. Ex-Private Alex Walker of the Kahn Militia." Schmidt responded.
"And I'm assuming you're this 'Mako' person Vinyl keeps talking about." Alex replied.
"You're with the Scratchbolts too?" Mako asked.
"Yes, Ma'am." Alex nodded.
"Then you know the plan." Schmidt nodded.
"What plan?" Alex asked.
"Oh, come on, don't tell me that you didn't know that tracker is actually a bomb, right?" Mako scoffed.
"That thing's a bomb?!" Alex whisper-yelled.
Both Mako and Schmidt nodded.
"Then you don't know about Overcharge?" Mako asked.
"Scratchbolt armor for humans, right?" Alex asked.
"Pretty much, Iron Man. They said that I was the original Overcharge, but since you have more experience, You're the main man." Schmidt shrugged,
"Sorry for stealing the spotlight. What's the plan?" Alex asked.
"Get out of here before these Inquisitors decide to check on us." Mako replied.
"Then you're gonna hate this." A raspy voice coughed in reply.
All three turned to Jäger, who pulled himself up, a splotch of what looked like liquid metal was all that remained of their attempted assassination.
"What the hell!?" Alex asked.
"You remember how I told you I made 'Improvements', you son of a bitch?" Jäger asked.
"Stand back, I-" Alex pulled out .44 Scratch.
"No, I'll deal with Jäger, get out of here." Schmidt interrupted.
"Schmidt, no!" Mako urged.
"GO NOW! GO!" He ordered.
Alex and Mako ran out of the tank, firing at the enemies in the convoy.
"Walker!" A few gasped.
Next thing Alex knew, it was raining Jets and Dubstep, he had a fair idea why.
"I see one major flaw in this plan!" Alex yelled.
"What?!" Mako asked.
"Inquisitors! Four of them! Want us dead! Ring any bells?!!" Alex yelled as he fired at the soldiers.
"Problem solved, Overcharge inbound, ETA 10 seconds." Iris responded.
"Okay, then." Alex shrugged, throwing a grenade towards a cluster of enemy soldiers.
Alex fired .44 Scratch and Electric Fury before throwing them high up in the air.
A large, grey hunk of metal came roaring across the battlefield and instantly began suiting Alex up.
Schmidt wasn't kidding about this 'Overcharge' armor. He felt his Aura refuel and go beyond it's limits. Large, metallic wings expanded out of the back of the armor and two Shoulder Mounted Machine Guns latched and clicked onto his shoulders. The mask looked similar to his Goliath Mk. V visor, only like the rest of the suit, it glowed a bright blue. The HUD was also practical and cool. In the end, the armor felt almost completely natural.
Grabbing both revolvers before they could hit the ground, he cocked them both.
"Let's dance!" The suit even had a voice changer?! Holy hell, he sounded like he had one of those Darth Vader voice changers, only the speakers had better quality.
Even so, four inquisitors was likely a challenge.
"Mako, run!" Alex ordered as Jäger walked out of the tank.
Mako escaped, with Rainbow grabbing onto her before zipping away as fast as she got there
Alex was surrounded. This got a little out of hand.
"Greetings, boy." Beta glared.
"You're surrounded, kid! No way out of this one!" Jäger yelled.
"I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!" Alex bashed the gauntlets together, causing a distinct red spark to burst between the gauntlets.
All four inquisitors, with the addition of Jäger, charged at him, brandishing their weapons.
If Alex was going down, he was taking a few of them with!
