The world of Uma Musume Pretty Derby, world very much like many modern human worlds, great race horses of the past have a chance to be reborn as "horse girls"—girls with the ears and tails of horses as well as their speed and endurance. The best of these horse girls go to train at Tokyo's Tracen Academy, hopefully moving on to fame and fortune as both racers and idols.

The big race where the teams of Spica, Rigil, Canopus, Capella, Sirius, Aschera, and other horse girls without teams all took apart of. Hundreds of them all running and racing against each other, with many watching both in the stands and tv. There is also a foreign horse girl who had showed up and signed up for the race.

The American horse girl, Sunset Shimmer who has no history or won any races. She had to.d everyone that she’ll be winning the race and all of them are losers. Saying that she’s so sure of her winning she’s going to give them a head start. Causing all the other horse girls to get fired up to beat her.

Even letting the others have a 10 second head start, Sunset Shimmer took off like a rocket and pass everyone. Made worst that she wasn’t even trying to make it look hard as she did so. She even stop in front of the finish line and smiling at the other horse girls as they ran with all of their might, just walk backwards and finished the race, utterly humiliating all of the Japanese horse girls with her act.

“As I said, I won this race, losers. I’m the best and better than any of you,” Sunset said to the humiliated horse girls.

“You’re not the best,” Special Week said.

Sunset said nothing as she undo the straps off the large arm bands she’s wearing letting it drop to the ground. The thud it made when it hit cause the horse girl’s eyes to widen. Sunset removed the another arm band that also made a thud sound when it drop. She undid the straps on her large boots and lifting her right foot up, she let the boot fall also making a thud sound, followed by the left. She took off her leather jacket that also made a thud when it landed on the ground, revealing that she’s wearing a belt and a harness, that has pads on her shoulders and back. She let them all fall and all made a thud sound. With each item of clothing that she took off, the more the other horse girls realized that she’s just been playing around with them.

“I been sand bagging myself all of this time, the combine weight of all the weights I just took off, is 200 pounds. So yes, I’m the best there is,” Sunset said smiling seeing the shattered spirits of the horse girls in front of her.

She knows that the pendant given to the best race horse of Japan is really the pendant of Megan Williams that contains the rainbow of light. Her plan is to became to best race horse of Japan and gain the pendant. She just has to make sure that none of the other race horse girls can beat her. So she trained herself with weights to became stronger and faster. She also used this race to break the spirits of the horse girls of Japan who could be a threat to her, winning.

“Another me trying to take the throne,” Sunset said watching the screen of the broadcast from the planet below the ship.

“And another me who doesn’t know what she has lost,” Celestia adds.

Sunset still doesn’t want to do much with her, that mirrors many other relationships of other versions of them. Where Celestia spent so much time out of Sunset’s life that when she finally wants to spend time with her, Sunset doesn’t want to spend time with her anymore. For the Celestia’s having spent so much time away from their Sunset’s, that she knows nothing about her, but for things that she has either lost interest in or moved to something else.

Now Celestia like many other versions of her, have to take the long and hard road of learning about their Sunset’s interest and how they’re like now. All Celestia knows of Sunset are things that are years out of date and has nothing to teach her now. But this is the path that she has pick for herself. She gave up everything to have the chance of gaining what really matters. The love of her daughter. (1)
