Celestia could only watch as the tree of harmony died, taking all the magic of Equestria with it. Sunset her former student had tried to save it using the ritual but because of her crippling doubt of her abilities that were caused by being abandon in the human world for years, she didn’t had the resolve to complete the ritual. Or the trust needed with her for both of them to do the ritual together. Caused by herself who just left Sunset in that world not even bothering to contact her by the magic book they both held. Causing Sunset to always have a distrustful view on her, as she couldn't trust her to be there for her.

“ I failed,” Sunset said.

“No, I did to you. I should had been the mentor and mother figure that you needed,” Celestia said turning her glaze to Luna.

Instead of Nightmare Moon returning, instead was Celestia’s mentally broken sister who due to 1,000 years of isolation was broken. Seeing how broken her sister is, her subjects couldn’t see her being prefect anymore. It took Celestia months just to get Luna to stop running away from her, she fears her scared that she would be sent back to the moon.

All of her subjects began fearing her as well, scared that if they displease her they be sent away like her sister. Her student Twilight also became more of a nervous wreck, doing whatever asked of her not wanting to disappoint her and being sent away. For if she was willing to trap her own sister for 1,000 years on the moon, what would she do to them.

“At least I won’t be scared of you sending me to the moon anymore or turning me to stone,” Luna said.

“I know, I’m the worst. I just left so much to be done by others when I could had done something myself. No one can trust me, not after what, I have done to both of you. This is my fault and none other,” Celestia said. (1)

1 - I know that the real reason Celestia does nothing is that if she did then there wouldn’t be a show. But with so much that could go wrong and how she refused to step in like a good boss does when they need to get their hands dirty. The only reason things went well is because it’s a show. As otherwise it's just her being a bad boss who does nothing when there's trouble.

As a good boss knows when to step in and get their hands dirty.
