While they're the good guys in all of this and are ultimately good-natured, they don't always behave heroically. Scanlan is a shameless sex maniac, Keyleth is incredibly awkward, Pike is short-tempered and crass, and Grog is a Blood Knight Dumb Muscle who's quite socially inept. Even the more level-headed Vex and Vax are willing to steal, bribe, and even kill to protect themselves and each other, and while Percy appears collected on the surface, he's carrying a considerable amount of trauma and is obsessed with revenge because of it.

The ruling class of Emon are thus dismissive of them at large, because Vox Machina don't act like traditional heroes. With many wondering why Sunset Shimmer who is known in many kingdoms to be a powerful magic user and heroine, where she's single handily save entire kingdoms. Choose to be the leader of a band of misfits.

Sunset Shimmer held the crystal that showed the version of her who became the leader of Vox Machina. She watched as she and her friends in that world slay the blue dragon. She puts the crystal away and let's it join the other floating crystals that showed other versions of herself in other worlds.

She has created hundreds of clones of herself to live out lives in other worlds. She changed the timeline of those worlds so that she could exist in them, and befriend the heroes of those worlds. To help maintain the balance of those worlds, to snuff out any evil that appears. For that's how things goes where one evil is defeat another stronger evil will come out of nowhere.

Sunset couldn't remember what had happen to set her on this path but she remembers the so called heroes who had brainwashed her, ending up being the cause of her world's downfall. Her faith in good and heroes was broken that day, and she decided to protect other worlds her way.

To keep stronger evil from appearing, she became the stronger evil. Staying on top of the pecking order where it's her will and strength that cowers all the would be evil tyrants from trying anything. She became the evil tyrant who scares all the others into submission and keep low so she wouldn't notice them. Like how Darksied in his universe keeps other would be tyrants from trying anything that would cause him to take notice of them. (1)

Sunset created clones of herself and changed things in those worlds so that she would be apart of the hero groups. So that she'll knows all of their strengths and weaknesses. If there is ever a time where she needs to reset the timeline, she'll be able to handle the heroes who always tries to stop her from restoring the balance.

Sunset looks at one crystal where her clone has become interwoven into the lives of many heroes in that world. Helping the heroes of Paris, while also making her moves in the shadows to be able to takeover that world's Equestria. Sunset does like the worlds where she isn't evil but isn't good either. Just grey, as she does what she needs to do, to get things done.
