The Best treasure of all time
Chapter 6: Sallah and the market chase
Previous ChapterThe three traveled from Nepal to the city of Cairo by plane, another nap for the three to have together. As soon as they landed and exited the plane, they were greeted by a pretty big man with a bushy beard, wearing all white clothing and hat.
"Indy!" He yelled with open arms.
"Sallah!" Indy replied, opening his arms. The two gave each other a hug. Daring tilted her head to the side before flying next to her father.
"Who's he?" she asked. Sallah jumped and walked back a bit.
"Indy," he said "is that a talking pegasus?"
"Is it, Sallah." Indy replied, holding Daring Do in his arms "Her name is Daring Do."
"Daring Do? Hello there, I'm Sallah! Your father and I used to work together."
"Hi Sallah," Daring Do greeted herself, flying towards Sallah's face "I'm Daring Do, and I'm your friend's daughter."
"Daughter? Never thought I'd saw you having kids, let alone, a pegasus."
"Believe me," Indy replied with a chuckle "I didn't think it'd happen."
"And who is the fair lady with you?"
"Hello, I'm Marion." Marion greeted herself, extending her hand. Sallah took both of her hands and shook it.
"It's a pleasure to meet you! A friend of Indy's is a friend of mine! Come, let me take you to my house! My children love guests! I hope there's a good reason for you to come here other than a nice greeting."
"Oh there is." Indy answered. Sallah lead the way to his house.
They arrived into Sallah's home and walked to the roof, seeing the city ahead. His wife & children were present, and they all thought Daring Do was so adorable as soon as she landed on the table. Daring didn't mind, as, being A.K.Yearling, most of her fans were kids. Marion and Indy looked to the city ahead.
"Cairo," Sallah commented on the view "the city of living and paradise on earth!" A monkey landed on their table, making the children laugh at it's antics. The monkey approached Daring and began to dig through her mane, eating tiny insects that landed in her mane when they arrived. The children laughed at what the monkey did, though their mom wasn't too happy about it. The monkey stopped digging through Daring's mane and climbed up Marion's arm, then climbed onto the back of her neck.Daring watched and felt some jealousy between her and this monkey.
"Cute." Marion commented "What an adorable creature."
"Hey!" Daring yelled, hoping in place "I'm more adorable!"
"I'm sorry for that, you're just as adorable as this monkey." Daring stared at the monkey, and the monkey stared at her.
"I've got my eyes on you." Marion walked away with the monkey still holding on to her. Indy and Sallah sat right in front of each other on the table Daring sat on. She walked over to her father and laid on her back, as her father began to gently scratch her tummy. Daring didn't pay much attention to what they were discussing, but got the main gist of it: The Nazis have a huge archaeological dig outside of the city, all workers are low paid, Belloq is still alive & running the operation, a man Sallah knows can translate the marking on their jewel, and Sallah is actually worried about what happens if they do get the ark and open it.
Daring, Indiana, and Marion walked through the streets as Sallah went to make arrangements for a meeting with the man he knew. Daring felt rage built in her as they talked about how cute the monkey was and how it had both Indy's looks & Marion's brains. The monkey ran away. Daring chased the monkey a bit, then stopped a few feet away.
"Yeah!" Daring yelled "You better run away!"
"Jealous?" Indy asked with a chuckle, picking up Daring Do.
"He was going to replace me! ME!!! Your daughter!"
"Don't be such a spoiled sport. Nothing can replace you."
"I may said it was cute," Marion added, taking Daring's hat off and rustling her mane "but nothing has your eyes and courage." Daring gave them both a confused look.
"So... he was a pet?" she asked
"Yes." They both answered in unison.
"...OH!!!"
"Have a date." Indy spoke. Daring looked around her
"Was there another pegasus?"
"No, this." he gave Daring a large, raisin looking fruit. Daring took a bite out of it with a small 'Nom' and chewed it, finding it weird, but enjoyable. They continued their walk for a few extra minutes
"So," Marion spoke to Indy "How's it like having a child that's a pegasus?"
"Well," Indy answered "It's weird, I won't lie, but it's a good weird. She's been helpful multiple times, and she's doing really well as a book writer."
"A book writer? Bus she doesn't have hands."
"Doesn't mean she can't write. She's used her mouth to help her write, then, as a means of a final draft, she uses the type writer."
"She types?"
"She does. Her wings seem to act as hands themselves. You wouldn't believe the number of times she covered her face with her wings when she was in my house for the first few days and search for the bathroom or get a glass of water."
"That... sounds super adorable.
"It is." Daring opened her eyes, her ears perked up, and her left ear twitch.
"Behind us!" Daring yelled, flying out of her father's arms. Indy immediately turned and punched a man covered in black cloth. More men came along, some holding weapons of their own! Marion used some objects at projectiles, and Daring flew into the air, landing on some of the people they were fighting and using their own clothing to blind them, making them punch each other or swing in the air wildly.
"Both of you!" Indy yelled "Get out of here!"
"No, Dad!" Daring replied "We're staying with you!" Indy groaned to himself and dragged Marion with him, nearly tossing her into a cart with hay. Daring Do flew next to her father, as he pulled out his whip and whipped at the people tying to attack them.
"Stay with Marion!"
"But Dad!"
"I said stay!"
"Come on." Marions said, snatching Daring out of the air and tightly hugging her. Daring struggled to break free from Marion's grasp, but the cart rapidly moved away from the fight. Marion got up after a few seconds and ran ahead. One of the men followed them, making Marion let go of Daring and pulled a nearby frying pan off a vendor's stall. The man stopped as Marion prepared to fight. He smiled and pulled out a knife. Marion froze for a few moments. A loud 'Clang' was heard, and he fell to the floor. Daring Do was right behind him and she used a frying pan to knock him out.
"Thanks!" Marion thanked.
"No problem." Daring replied. Marion ran and Daring followed her. She stopped and turned around, then jumped into a large basket. Daring wanted to join her, but figured the best way was to look over from a roof and watch the people go by, then tell Marion the close was clear. Daring watched and snickered to herself as the bad men rushed by Marion, but stopped as she saw the same monkey climbed the basket Marion was in. It screeched a bit. Daring flew down and landed near the monkey, using her right hoof to slap the monkey across it's face.
"I knew you were trouble!" Daring yelled. The monkey screeched right back and slapped her across the face! Daring returned the slap. The monkey the same! It soon became a slap fest between the two animals! A gunfire was heard in the distance, and the Monkey ran away.
"Good riddance!" Daring yelled. Indy came around the corner and saw Daring sitting on the basket.
"Where's Marion?" He asked
"In here!" Marion replied, her voice muffled by the basket. Daring flew away, tossing the basket lid away. Marion stuck her head out, then climbed out of the basket.
"That monkey was a traitor!" Daring yelled.
"How so?" Indy asked
"I heard it," Marion said "The Nazis ran by, that little monkey climbed the basket and screeched at them. Were it not for Daring and their little... slap fest, I would've been captured." Indy picked up his daughter and gently touched her cheeks.
"You're not hurt, are you?"
"Don't worry, Dad." Daring replied "it was a small monkey, not like you guys." Indy smiled with a chuckle
"That's good to know."
"Come on," Marion said "We better get out of here before they come back for us!"
The three sat in a local restaurant, well far from their area and is the local place where Indy first meet Sallah & became friends. A familiar mane came along and sat in front of them.
"Belloq." Indy scolded.
"Dr. Jones." Belloq replied "And Miss Do."
"I knew you were ugly," Daring replied with a smug "but I didn't think you'd be uglier." both Marion and Indy burst into laughter. Belloq was still in his suit with a more casual looking hat, but his face was covered with many lumps & stitches."
"Indeed." he deadpanned. "I would've killed you all by now, but this isn't a private place for murder."
"These Arabs don't care if we kill each other." Indy added "They're not going to interfere with our business."
"It was not I who brought her into business."
"You technically did." Daring replied "I asked her for it, she gave it to me, your men came in & burned her place down, and we're now here."
"Cute, loyal, and smart." Marion spoke, scratching behind Daring's ear. Daring leaned her head into Marion's hand, and her right back leg kicked adorably.
"... yes... she sure is." Belloq deadpanned again. "It is interesting. Dr. Jones, on how odd that it should end like this way for us, after so many stimulating encounters. I almost regret it."
"We won't." Marion replied
"Don't worry Belloq," Indy said, leaning back into his chair "I'll be fine without an adversary that's too lazy to find riches themselves." Both Daring and Marion covered their mouths with an 'Ooh' expression. Belloq stared at Indy with rage.
"You and I are very much alike." he stated "Archaeology is our religion, yet we have both fallen from the purer faith. Our methods are not different as much as you pretend."
"*Cough*Lazy!*Cough*" Daring fake coughed.
"I'm a shadowy reflection of you. It'll only take a small nudge to push you to be like me."
"Well I have someone looking up to me." Indy replied, carrying Daring Do and placing her on his lap.
"You know it's true."
"...We're done here!" Marion yelled, getting up from her seat. The people around them got up and pulled their weapons on the group! Sallah's kids arrived, surrounding Marion and Indy, as the smallest (and probably youngest) child gently picked up Daring Do.
"Next Time, Indiana Jones," Belloq replied with a smirk "it'll take more than children to save you and your partner's lives" Daring turned around and stuck her tongue out at Belloq. They exited the place and found Sallah near his truck.
"I knew you were in there!" Sallah cheered "They're much better than the U.S. Marines, right?"
"Much better!" Marion added, lifting one of the kids into the truck.
"Where are we going?" Daring asked.
"To my friend who can help us!" Sallah answered. Everyone got into the truck and drove away.
