Chapter 13: Preparations and a thing of the past
Previous Chapter Next ChapterCelestia and Luna where out on the balcony overlooking the floating island that had appeared.
"What do you make of this sister?"
"I don't know what to think Luna, this island was supposed to be a myth, now it's here." Celestia sighed and walked towards the door. "We need to gather the elements of harmony." Just then a guard burst through the door.
"Your highness, there appears to be some sort of shield around the floating island that s blocking our scouts from even getting close to the castle!" Both princesses looked to each other before flying in the direction of the island. The closer they got the slower they flew as to not end up like a bug on a windshield. When they were close enough Celestia placed her hoof on an invisible surface. She tried casting multiple shield breaking spells but nothing happened.
Stuck are we?
Both princesses looked up to see Forge laying on a cloud above them smirking.
"Do you have something to do with this Forge?" Asked Celestia in a dark tone.
Nope, but I know very well what this island is and what it was made to do, so I thought that you girls could use some assistance
"You know how to break the shield?"
Indeed I do, although it will take a few days, giving you plenty of time to prepare for your Gala
The sisters looked at each other and nodded. "Ok Forge, thank you for your help." He smirked and disappeared. Celestia rushed back to her study and began writing a message to Symbol. She sent it and gave out a sigh. "This isn't going to end well for anyone."
Symbols POV
The carriage dropped us off on the outskirts of town and I walked Twilight home. When we reached the library she turned to face me. "I really did have fun tonight Symbol." I just gave her a small nod in response. Her horn glowed and I was turned back to my human self. Before she opened her door she planted a small kiss on my check, leaving me wide eyed. She giggled at my reaction and walked into her home.
After processing what just happened I sighed and made my way back to my house. "What have you gotten yourself into Symbol?" I shook my head and entered my home to find Wasp and Zanny grinning at me like idiots. "What?"
"Oh, nothing, just that we saw the cutest couple outside the library." Both of them tried to stifle their laughter but failed and fell off the couch in tears, leaving Scary to shake his head in disapproval.
"Go to bed you two." I ignored their second outburst of laughter and headed to my bed when a scroll appeared in front of me. "Great, what now?"
Dear Symbol
I'm sure you've noticed the floating island by now, but that island may only be half of our problems. I believe that Forge is planning to use the dark secrets of the island for something, so, when we are allowed access I would like you to investigate the castle and put a stop to Forges plan, although we will be unable to enter until after the Gala.
Best wishes, Celestia.
Great, now I've got this to deal with. Oh well, might as well get Rarity to make me a tux, I'm not sure if I want to become a pony again, that was just uncomfortable.
"Alright, see you two tomorrow." Aloe and Lotus both gave me a smile before I exited the building. This morning I stopped by Raritys boutique to give her my measurements for the tux and would be ready this afternoon, the girls had gotten their dresses made a few weeks ago. The reason I didn't get my tux ready at the time was because I was undergoing a huge growth spurt, and I mean huge, I've grown twenty centimetres in the past month, what the actual buck.
Yeah, I never got any explanation other than 'magic'. I made my way down the street to the boutique, when I was in town centre everyone froze looking in the opposite direction I was walking. "What are these guys so shocked about?" I turned around to see the last person I wanted to see here. "You!"
Standing there was my twin brother, Leo. He looked exactly like me except his hair was blonde, his eyes were green and he wore a green shirt. He also wore a necklace except his had a star on his. He just stood there, smirking.
"Well hello to you too bro, it's been a while." I shot forward and grabbed his neck.
"I am in no mood for your games Leo, how the hell did you get here?!"
"Gah...what's wrong Neo, don't remember that you forgot to kill the scientists behind the portal experiment?" I lifted him into the air and slammed him into the ground. "Gack...want the hell...when did you become this strong?" When he tried to get up I brought my foot down onto his chest. He grunted in pain and I kneeled down to face him.
"My name isn't Neo anymore, and you should know that I have no intention of returning to Masereth." He looked at me confused and threw my off of him. He got to his feet and we began to stare each other down.
"What's gotten into you, why don't you want to go back home?"
"Because this is my home!" His eyes widened in shock. "A few weeks ago I was offered a way back to Masereth and I turned it down, do you want to know why?"
"Why?"
"To get away from all the death, all the pain, to get away from him!" His look was slowly starting to turn to that of understanding. "You and I both know that Abigail is dead, there's no point in us saving her now. Even if she is our sister, the Rayleigh family has probably already killed her." His face was becoming one of realisation.
"No...no he wouldn't...no..." I walked over to him and grabbed him by the shirt.
"Don't you get it Leo? We did all of that, for nothing! All of the killing, all of the destruction, all of the pain, it was for NOTHING!" There was tears forming in both of our eyes. We both collapsed to our knees. "...it was all for nothing..." He broke down into sobs and I let my tears roll down my checks.
"We're the only two left now..."
"I know."
"Do you still have it?" I nodded and pulled out the purple diamond, he pulled out a green one.
"When the light has taken one of our souls."
"Will still have one thing to hold."
"Even in death, we will not be led astray."
"For our fallen has now seen the light of day." He brought me into a hug and we sat there in the middle of the street in each others arms grieving over our fallen sister. The ponies had no idea what was going on, so they decided to leave us alone and get on with their day. My friends came over to me and Leo and just looked at us with worry and confusion.
"Why is there two Symbols?" Asked Derpy.
"I think that's his brother." Answered BonBon.
"I missed you Neo..."
"I missed you too Leo." We sat there in each other's embrace, not noticing my friends standing right behind me. "Come on, let's go, you know what we have to do." Well pulled apart and he nodded. We began walking towards the nearest hilltop with a tree to create a memorial for our sister.
Rest in peace my dearest sister, the one I truly cared for in my world of sorrow. I miss you...so, so much.
After gathering several items and making a grave marker, Leo and I were standing on the top of a hill where we had built our sisters memorial, under the shade of a tree. The marker was a wooden cross made of planks and rope with a photo of Abigail in the centre. There was also a small white dish filled with water and a small lotus flower. We stood there staring at the grave, neither of us saying a word.
My friends had watched all of this happen, all the while trying to make sense of what was going on. Leo and I looked to each other and nodded. I pulled out a copy of Abigail's necklace and he a copy of her diamond. I hung the necklace over the cross and he set the gem just behind the dish.
"Rest in peace Abigail." We said in unison. He wiped a tear forming in his eye and I closed my eyes for a moment of silence. A few minutes passed and we sat down, still looking at the grave.
"So what's your plan Leo, you heading back to Masereth?"
"There really isn't any point now is there?"
"There is one thing." He looked at me with confusion. "To kill our father." He nodded.
"You have a point there, but we'd never be able to do it." I nodded sadly and turned to the girls.
"You lot have been a bit too quiet during all of this." They tensed up and looked away nervously.
"Well Symbol, it's just that we don't know what to say in this situation." Confessed BonBon and the group nodded.
"You told them your name was Symbol?"
"Yeah, I changed my name, I'd advise you to do the same." He nodded and started to think.
"How about Zero?" I looked at him with a brow raised. "What, your name's Symbol, let mine be Zero." I shrugged.
"Well the who am I to judge, you'll have to add Shattered as your last name though, cause that's my last name now."
"Alright, Zero Shattered it is." I nodded and we got up to face the girls.
"Girls, meet my twin brother, Zero Shattered." I looked over to a few trees and spotted Vivi. "You guys introduce yourselves to each other, there's something I have to check up on." They nodded and began talking. Upon approaching the woods I was grabbed by Vivi and brought into a loving hug.
I slowly started to tear up in her embrace and hugged her back.
Shhhhh, it's ok my child, I'm here
For the first time in my life I felt the love of a mother, as memories of my past life started flooding back to me I held her close and broke down into tears.
My past life was now coming back to haunt me, and I'm going to pay for leaving Masereth sooner or later.
