A New Beginning
Chapter 1: The Meeting
Load Full Story Next ChapterYou roll down the window of your car to let the cool fall breeze blow in. Driving down the open highway, you note the changing colors of the leaves on the trees as you pass by. Fall was in full swing yet it felt like only yesterday that it was spring. The night when you last saw any of the Dazzlings starts playing through your mind, the Battle of the Bands Finals. You weren't under the control of the Dazzlings at the time so you were able to enjoy the show at first. That all changed when it came time for the Dazzlings to perform after Trixie's band played. As Adagio and the others were singing, another band could be heard playing behind you. You turned around to see the band that was originally scheduled to play instead of Trixie's, the Rainbooms, playing in front of a really nice looking dj platform. They and the Dazzlings started battling through song after that.
"Hmm... this is getting interesting." You thought as the Dazzlings' siren forms burst out of their crimson necklaces. As they started flying and attacking the Rainbooms, you couldn't help but notice how cute Sonata looked as she grinned and held her fists up as if she was trying to flex her muscles. They started screaming in unison, making you turn around just in time to see the Rainbooms being knocked off their feet by the sound waves coming from the siren forms. "Well, looks like the Dazzlings won." You thought until you saw Sunset Shimmer holding a mic on the hill. "Never mind." As she started to sing along with the Rainbooms, you noticed something strange. Sunset had transformed to look just like the others and after her hand came in contact with Twilight's, a circular rainbow energy shield exploded from them, sending it across the stadium, knocking you forward slightly as it hit you. Looking back towards the stage, you noticed the Dazzlings' eyes had stopped glowing red as Adagio gave a look of confusion. Soon, the Rainbooms were all floating a few feet off the ground with colors radiating off of them in the form of a rainbow. The rainbow went into the clouds as some kind of portal opened, eventually leading to a pair of giant wings being seen. "What the fuck is that?!" You screamed internally as a giant alicorn with a flowing rainbow mane came out of the portal and fired a bolt of rainbow energy, engulfing the Dazzlings' on impact. The brightness made you look away for a moment before turning back to see them on their knees with their jewels broken.
"Wow! What the hell just happened?" You muttered to yourself as the Dazzlings tried to sing again. This time, their voices were terribly off key, making them sound horrible. "Oh fuck." You thought as everyone in the crowd started booing and throwing food at the Dazzlings, making them run off the stage. You tried to run after them, but the crowd was too big. Then out of nowhere, the sound of a truck horn makes you instantly snap back to reality.
"Move it!" A trucker yells from behind you before blasting his horn again.
"Get that piece of junk off the road!" Another driver screams.
"Huh... what?" You mutter as you realize you've been sitting at an intersection with a line of cars and semi-trucks behind you. "Heh heh... sorry!" You yell back as you step down on the gas, making your car speed off down the road. "Wow, that was embarrassing." You then turn down the road that leads to the Dazzlings' old house. As you drive close to the house, the "For Sale" sign is still clearly seen nailed to a post on their lawn. "I wonder where they went to." You think as you pull into the driveway. The Dazzlings' house has been up for sale for months now. The sign was even on the lawn that Friday night you had promised to come over. No one has seen the Dazzlings since the Battle of the Bands. You've tried searching for a week afterwards, but eventually you gave up after not finding anything.
After thinking about that night, you put your car in reverse and back out of the driveway. "Well, time to go back to my apartment, I guess." You say as you drive away from the house. 30 minutes of driving afterwards, you pull up to your apartment complex. As you park your car, you can't help but feel like something bad was about to happen. Walking up the stairs, you open the front door and step into the small lobby. But after closing the door behind you, a feeling of fear overcomes you as you see the owner of the complex, a man named Iron Will, standing outside your apartment's door. "Oh uh... hello Mr. Will. How can I help you?" Iron Will just gives you a glare as his large, muscular figure looms over you.
"You're late on your rent payment again." Iron Will states as he points to today's date on a small calendar he pulled out of his pocket. "This is the third month in a row now. You know how I feel about late payments." He says as his muscles bulge in front of you.
"I know Mr. Will. It's just that my hours at work have been cut and I'm struggling just to get by."
"Look." Iron says while putting a hand on your shoulder. "I know times are tough right now. Believe me, I do. I've been patient with you these last few months. You've been a few days late on the payments and I've been accepting of it. However, after seeing other tenants pulling this stunt as well, I've decided that I'm no longer going to be Mr. nice guy when it comes to payments. I've got property bills to make for this building and I can't make them if people are going to be late on their payments. So... do you have this month's rent with you or no?"
"Well... no Mr. Will. I don't have it." You say after swallowing a portion of your pride to admit.
"Then you leave me no choice Anon. I'm sorry, but this needs to be done. Nothing personal, its just business." Iron Will says before giving you an eviction notice. "I'm giving you three weeks to pack up and move out."
"What!" You yell as Iron Will starts walking away. "You can't be serious!"
"You want me to make it two weeks?" He asks without turning around while holding up two fingers. "Be grateful that my generosity hasn't disappeared yet."
"You want me to kick your ass?" You think to yourself. You sigh after realizing you can't win. "No... three weeks is fine."
"Good. Now if you'll excuse me, Ms. Punch is late on her payment as well." He says before disappearing around a corner.
"For also being a motivational speaker, he sure does make you feel small and insignificant." You think as a tear streaks down your face while you pull your apartment key out of your pocket and unlock the door. As you shut the door behind you, feelings of being helpless race across your mind.
"Great. Now what am I supposed to do? I can't move back in with my parents! They turned my old room into their computer room." You say as you sit down in your recliner. "Looks like I better start looking for a new place to live." You pick up today's paper and flip through to the personal ads. "Now where are the ads for apartments?" You think as you look at the page. "Ah! Here they are." Looking through the page, you see various ads for apartments that are well above your price range. "Hmm... perhaps I should try finding a roommate to help ease the burden of these high rent payments." You mutter as you look at the space reserved for people seeking roommates. You notice one ad in the paper that you've seen many times in the past but never truly paid attention to until now.
Group of four individuals seeking a fifth roommate. Any applicants must fit the requirements listed below.
- Must be within the same age group as us.
- Must have their own vehicle.
- Must be able to make a monthly payment of at least $200 per month.
Those who fit this description, feel free to contact Sunset Shimmer.
"Sunset Shimmer?" You think as you stare at your friend's name. "She never mentioned she was looking for a roommate. Hmm... I can easily make a $200 payment instead of this insane amount Iron Will is making me pay." You reach into your pocket and pull out your phone. "Good thing she gave me her number. Wonder why it isn't in the ad." After the ringing tone goes off a few times, she picks up.
"Hey Anon, whats up?"
"Hey Sunset, nothing much, just found out I'm being thrown out of my apartment."
"What! Thats awful. I always thought Iron Will was a nice guy. But hey, why don't you move in with me and a few friends? We've been looking for a fifth roommate."
"Yeah, I saw your ad in the paper. Didn't know you were looking for another roommate."
"Well, my friends and I were looking at buying a house and we need one more person to be able to get the payments." You then hear a muffled voice in the background. "No. I'm not ordering any more tacos." Her voice says as though she put her hand over the phone. You laugh slightly before Sunset's voice could be heard again. "Sorry, roommate was asking about supper."
"Its alright." You reply. "So should we talk about this sometime tomorrow or is another time better for you?"
"Yeah. Tell you what. How about we meet at Sugarcube Corner tomorrow after school?"
"Sounds good. I'll see you there."
"Great. See you tomorrow then." She says before hanging up the phone.
"Well, at least something good might come out of this whole ordeal." You think as you turn on your tv.
The next afternoon, you walk from Canterlot High to Sugarcube Corner since they were only a few blocks apart. As you open the door leading inside, you see Sunset Shimmer sitting at a table at the far end of the little coffee house. She waves at you upon seeing you standing at the doorway. You wave back before walking over to her table. "Hey Anon." She said as she gets up. "Glad you made it here." She gives you a hug before sitting back down in her chair. You sit down across from her and you open your mouth to say something before her phone goes off. "Oops... sorry. Gotta take this call." She says before pressing her thumb onto the screen. "Yes?"
"....."
"Yes, I'm meeting with him right now."
"..."
"No, he just got here."
"..."
"Sure, come on over. Okay. See ya." She turns back toward you. "Sorry about that. Looks like one of my roommates will be joining us in a few minutes."
"Its alright. So is there anything I should know about this living situation before I agree to any terms?"
"Well, you'd be the only guy that would be living with us. But that shouldn't matter. Especially since you told me you were being kicked out of your apartment."
"I see. Well, I can promise I won't cause too much trouble." You say before laughing. Sunset joins you in laughing before looking back towards you.
"So, can you make a monthly payment of $200? Its kinda important."
"Yes. I can easily make the payment. I've been having to pay almost double for Iron Will."
"Wow! How could you pay that much?"
"Well... I've been having to work two jobs for the past few months."
"Geesh! Well, if you decide to live with us, I think its safe to say you can leave one of those jobs." She says with a grin. She then looks over at the door. "Oh look, theres one of my roommates now." She says while waving her hand over to someone behind your field of vision.
"This guy had better be worth all the good things you've been saying about him." A voice says behind you as the person moves closer.
"That voice..." You think before turning around to look at the person. "Adagio?!"
"Anon?!"
