Chapter 30: Sonata Dusk Loyalty Part A: An Epiphany
Previous Chapter Next ChapterSpike woke up as a loud screech was heard. He covered his ears, as the screaming was painful and made him had violent images appear in hi head!
"Commander!?" Spitfire's voice yelled through the intercoms.
"Ahh!" Spike yelled "What's going on!?"
"Something's... third floor... Sonata! Stop it!!!" Spike got up and dashed to the elevator, going to the engineering floor. The noise got louder, but the screeching sounded like that of pain and agony. He stumbled down both flight of stairs and fell to the bottom floor that was the bowels. He winced in pain, but the screeching stopped, and only crying was heard. Reopening his eyes, Spike saw the faint red lights and darkness around him, as well as the silhouette of Sonata, head in her hands and crying.
"God I'm such a fucking idiot!" She spoke to herself. Spike stood right up, some of his bones cracking in the process, and walked to Sonata.
"Sonata?" Spike asked in a mix of both irritation and concern "Is there something you want to tell me? Did you make that loud screech?" She looked up at him, but turned away.
"You're here. I-I didn't expect that."
"Answer me."
"...Yeah. I... I just realized where my sisters were going."
"So you just yelled at the top of your lungs out of anger and made everyone have violent images inside their head?"
"It's not like that!" She took a deep breath and calmed herself down. "Look, I'm more than angry; I'm pissed off at what my sisters did! You already know what they abandoned me as they escaped from Tartarus, but I know where they went!"
"Get a hold of yourself. Where are they?"
"They're... They must be at Ariel. That's our homeplanet, where we grew up, and it's also the same place where my species came from."
"Are you sure that they're over there?" She took a deep breath of annoyance.
"Look, I may be an idiot, and I'm certain that you're not the brightest one here either, but they have to be there!"
"And what are you going to do when we get there?"
"When I fine then, I'm going to rip their fucking heads off!!!" Spike stared in surprise of her violence "Of course, after that, I'll be ready to take on any mission."
"...Okay. If it's going to stop you from screeching, then we're going to set the coordinates to Ariel." She jumped up and gave Spike a hug of affection.
"Oh thank you SO much!!! When we land, you won't need to see a thing!"
"I hope not. Coordinates, please?"
"Oh! Right." She pulled a piece of paper out with Ariel's coordinates. "Just make sure no one but you and that flame head woman see it; I don't want any of the royal figures to take us over like they tried to do those years ago. Say, did you know that my sisters and I used a similar planet to escape from the figures and lured that Star Swirl away from our kind?"
"... I didn't."
"Well now you know!" Spike stared for a few moments, but quickly exited from Sonata's place and headed to the cockpit, telling Spitfire the coordinates they need to go to.
Spike, Sonata, and the Doctor, looked out of the window of their shuttle as they headed towards Ariel. The Doctor came along because, though Sonata wanted to keep it a secret, he said that he's a traveler of different worlds and believed that she shouldn't kill her sisters. This didn't make her happy. Ariel itself was covered in water and, as Sonata pointed out, that most of the surface they'll be walking on is a large Coral Reef that many of their ancestors have died on as a way to help the next generation survive. This was very surprising as, despite being not the brightest one of her sisters, this was surprisingly mature of her, especially when she said that they must respect their surrounding and not do anything foolish.
"My scanners detect nothing." WOONA spoke "It is very possible that nothing is on this planet."
"Your scanners are broken." Sonata retorted "All you two need to do is hold your breath and follow me." Their shuttle hovered above the floor that was a Coral reef, more specifically, the place where Sonata and her sisters grew up in. All around them, waves of water splashed on them. Spike watched as, with each splash of water, Sonata's back legs connected & turned into that of a tail, her body turned scaly with a dorsal fin appearing from her back, and her entire head turned into that of a water dragon. She looked a lot more gruesome, yet, very strangely, attractive like... well... a siren. Again, the feeling in his pants came; were it not for his helmet coming up, she could've clearly seen him blush. The Doctor put on a scuba gear.
"So... where to now?" Spike asked
"Just follow me." She leaped into the water with a splash.
"Oh well," the Doctor spoke, following her "ALLONS-Y!!!" He jumped into the ocean. Spike followed and jumped into the Ocean. If there was one thing Spike knew, it's that he wasn't really great at swimming, but one thing he was happy about was that his suit was full of oxygen and he followed Sonata, who looked as if she were flying through the water itself, traveling into an opening below. The place, as far as Spike could see, was actually beautiful; fish swam around him, the various plant life added color that would'v made the ocean plain blue, and other weird creatures swam & hid from him. Spike made his way into the opening below and climbed up what was a ladder made from the reef itself. Sonata stood at a metal door, drying and slowly going back to her normal self, but was curious.
"This isn't right at all." Sonata spoke. "Why is there a door here?"
"You've never had doors?" Spike asked, drying himself off.
"No. Unlike most other species, we're more open to each other, so doors are no longer needed, along with most stuff. The only advanced thing we've ever used was lighting, some forms of entertainment, and space travel."
"You have been gone for a long time," the doctor added "so maybe some things have changed."
"...No. That's not right! Not at all! The last time a family made a door to the entrance of their home, they were torn to bits! Something isn't right." She banged on the door. "Open up!"
"Password and identification, please." a robotic male voice spoke
"What the-!? I'm Sonata Dusk!"
"Excuse me." The Doctor pulled out device and held it at the door.
"Password accepted." A click was made and the door opened, followed by lines of lights. Sonata growled at the sight.
"They fucked with the wrong family!"
"I thought you used lights." Spike replied
"We do, but not like this! It's only two lights per entry, not the whole hallway!!! ARIA!!! ADAGIO!!! SHOW YOURSELVES!!!" Sonata's voice echoed through the cavern, followed by silence. After a few moments, a moan was heard, followed by the silhouette of another Siren coming from the corner. Out of the corner wasn't a Siren waking up from her nap, but it was a siren's who's face and body had been ripped off to shreds, showing it's muscles, organs, and skeleton in full glory while it's mouth was covered in dry blood. It released another moan as it saw them, followed by more moaning deep in the caverns.
"HOLY SHIT!!! ZOMBIES!!!" Spike pulled out his pistol and fired at the zombie siren in her arm. The zombie took a step back from the impact, but made it's way to them. Before Spike could fire again, Sonata pushed him to the side.
"Commander! You can't fire weapons here!!! You're dishonoring my family's home!!!"
"Sonata! That's a zombie!!! I'm sorry if I'm dishonoring your family's home, but we need to survive!"
"We will survive! We-" The zombie lunged at her, making her fall. It's teeth snapped at her, trying to bite her face. Spike got up and kicked the zombie off, followed by him stomping it's head in with a loud mix of crunches and squishes. Sonata gasped at what Spike had done as he took a deep breath.
"...I'm sorry. I... I don't want anyone to die before our final mission. If this is what's in your home now, and your sisters are here, then that means-"
"Don't you fucking say it! My sisters know what to do and we're going to find them and I'm going to tear their heads off!"
"Are you sure?" She pulled her pistol out and cocked it.
"Dead fucking sure!"
The caverns were filled with the zombies, each different in their own way, but the same as they approached to them, moaning and trying to bite them. The Doctor had to stay in the middle while Sonata lead the way and Spike stayed in the back, both firing at those around them. Sonata really hated doing this now; firing weapons inside her home would've been the most disgraceful thing she could've done if they were still alive. The lights helped them move around fast and see what was ahead, and they entered a room with another metal door, which was Sonata and her sister's old room, and closed it, stopping the zombies' tracks.
"S-Sonata?" A familiar woman voice asked. They turned and saw Aria on the floor. Aria had her familiar pink skin and large, purple pigtails with green stripes in it, still wearing a prisoner's outfit from Tartarus, but she was covered in blood. She sat down while leaning against the cavern wall, only her left side was shown.
"YOU!!!" Sonata yelled, marching to her "Just give me one good reason why I shouldn't-!" She stopped and gasped. Spike and the Doctor walked next to Sonata, but were surprised as the right side of Aria's face showed her flesh & bones with her eye nearly popping out.
"She's been bitten." The Doctor said.
"...No! Nonononono!!! This can't be happening!!! Where's Adagio!? Where is she!? Tell me, or else I'll-"
"Kill me?" Aria interrupted "If that's what you're here to do, then by all means, do it. I don't deserve to live anymore." Sonata stared for a moment, but shook her head.
"What? What do you-"
"I'm already dead. We've been dead, Sonata." Sonata leaned down to her sister's side.
"You've both been dead?"
"Well... I was. I don't have much time, but hear me out. Adagio... she left me to look for you." Sonata's eyes widened. "My same reaction as well. She hated the fact that we left you behind those years ago. I... also hated it." Sonata teared up.
"You... you really mean it?"
"Yeah. I'm not one for words, but Adagio left you a message on her tablet, right on her bed. Sonata... I'm... sorry... for all those times. Turns out that, without you, we were lost. You... you were always so happy and childish, and though you felt like a burden at times, you helped us stay together. We... we hated that you were there. You were... so innocent, but you would follow us to the end of time, and we were meant to stick together, not leave each other behind." Sonata began to cry at the statement, resting on her knees and head into her hands. Aria reached out and patted her sister's head. Sonate looked up to Aria. "You're much stronger than either of us." She looked up to Spike "And who are you?"
"... Commander Spike." Spike answered "We meet each other in the simulation many years ago."
"...Ah... the dog. I trust he's been taking good care of you?"
"He... He's been taking care of me." Sonata replied.
"Good." Aria twitched and winced in pain. "Oh fuck! Sonata! Please... k-kill me!"
"What!?"
"I'm dying! Please, make my death as painless as possible!"
"But-"
"DO IT!!!" Sonata reeled back, but stood right up. Aria did her best to hold herself back as she began to snarl, slowly turning into one of the zombies outside. Sonata teared up and closed her yes, pulling her pistol out and aimed at her sister's head.
I'll do it
Leave her
Do it.
