For thousands upon thousands of years, there existed us, the ponies of Equestria. We were, and still are, resourceful, intelligent, caring, and most of all, curious. Thanks to our ingenious minds and creative thinking, we were able to build vast cities, create interesting creations that help us in our daily lives and thrive in even the harshest of environments thanks to our teamwork skills.

However, alongside us existed creatures of mass destruction and awesome power. These creatures, or monsters as many like to call them, have lived even longer than we have and have created nothing but problems for our race; destroying towns, killing innocent lives, spreading virus after virus, the list truly does go on. They have always been seen as creatures of evil, and though some can be tamed, most of them are beyond dangerous.

A thousand years ago, just before pony kind had lost all hope in repelling the monsters, hope shone through like the holy light of god himself. Two powerful Alicorn sisters appeared before the ponies and opposed the monsters with mighty courage. A long battle between the sisters and the monsters had ensued, and in the end of it all, the two Alicorn sisters were victorious, driving away the beasts and becoming the world's first official Monster Hunters.

Years past, and the sisters continued to slay beast after beast, keeping them at bay and helping the ponies of the world whenever they could. But the younger sister was outshone by the elder one in fame, and slowly but surely, the younger sister had begun to feel jealous. The elder sister consulted her about this, saying that it never mattered about fame or fortune, but about the lives of the innocent ponies that were continuously attacked by monsters. The younger never listened, and instead let her jealousy grow into full-on hatred.

From there, different stories on what happened after that became many in number. Some say the younger sister turned on pony kind and left to join the monsters. Most believe she simply fought her sister and lost, resulting in the birth of local Monster Hunters taught by the elder sister herself...

"...As for me though, I think something else may have happened" a lavender Unicorn mare with a purple mane was beginning to finish up reporting to her mentor, the Alicorn Princess Celestia, who shone like the sun with her long and wavy purple, blue, pink and cyan mane and her snow white coat "I believe that the elder sister personally banished her younger sibling and never saw her again. How? Well, I'm not too sure actually...

"That certainly is an interesting theory, Twilight" Celestia spoke with a soft chuckle "I'm happy to hear that you also know of our history with the beasts that plague the land."

"Well, of course!" Twilight said with a grin "I studied it to no end whenever I got the chance! It really is an interesting subject to talk and read about. Thanks for listening, Princess!"

"You're very welcome, Twilight" smiled the white Alicorn "I always have time to hear what my number one student has to say. However, now, it's getting slightly late. Perhaps you should begin to head back home?"

"Oh, right..." Twilight chuckled sheepishly "Well, goodnight Princess! See you in the morning!"

"Farewell, Twilight Sparkle" waved the lavender Unicorn's mentor "I wish you a good night's sleep."

Twilight nodded before heading out of the large mansion that the princess called her summer home in Ponyville. The mansion was old, but you would never know due to the polished white marble pillars, the well-preserved light blue bricks and the regularly changed brown roof shackles. The mansion was in a rectangular prism shape and was positioned upon a hill just a kilometre away from the main part of Ponyville.

Twilight looked and walked forward towards her home in the middle of the town. As she looked up, she saw it was clearly nighttime, as previously mentioned. However, she saw the shining stars in the sky and the bright lights emanating from Canterlot, the city built on the side of a mountain next to Ponyville. Seeing such a grand city always made her smile. The knowledge of always being protected from monster attacks by the watch of the largest city on the planet would make even the dullest of ponies grin from relief.

Finally, Twilight had made her way back home. Her house was a hollowed out, yet still somehow living tree that doubled as a private library for her and her friends. She opened the front door to see the circle-shaped main hall was still jam-packed with every book the young Unicorn could get her hands on, ranging from research novels to even some... slightly more private books.

To the left side of the main hall was her pet baby Azure Rathalos, whom she named Spike, sleeping the night blissfully away. Twilight smiled at this sight before going to her cupboard, bringing out a blanket, and placing it over Spike. She then proceeded to head upstairs to her room and read a bit more on the history of ponies and monsters. She jumped on her bed and rested her head on her pillow and read until she began to feel drowsy. She finally closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Twilight awoke the next morning to the feeling of wetness on her left hoof that was hanging off the edge of her bed. She groaned as she slowly got up to see that Spike had been licking her hoof affectionately. She smiled and petted him on his head. After a quick shower, she brushed her teeth, combed and styled her messy mane and headed out the door to meet with her friends at the local bakery, Sugar Cube Corner, just down the street she lived on.

As soon as she arrived at the gingerbread-like bakery with beige walls, pink windows, a brown roof with false icing on it and a pink tower shaped like cupcakes in the centre of it, she spotted her friends, all of which were female. There was Rainbow Dash, the cyan Pegasus with a short rainbow mane; Fluttershy, the cream yellow Pegasus with a long pink mane; Rarity, the white Unicorn with a curly purple mane; Applejack, the orange Earth Pony with a braided blonde mane and a brown Stetson hat; and Pinkie Pie, the pink Earth Pony with a slightly darker pink and poofy mane.

"Hiya, Twilight!" greeted Pinkie Pie the second she saw her lavender friend "Are you ready to have a super-duper awesome amazing day today?!"

"Pinkie, she doesn't hunt, remember?" Rainbow Dash, who was currently hovering a few feet off the ground spoke to the bubbly pink mare "She won't be able to join us in what we're going to do! Which is a shame, since then she wouldn't be able to see my awesome skills! Like, seriously! I have this new attack where I jump off the side of a cliff and wham some unsuspecting monster in the face!"

"Yes, I'm sure your skills are quite extraordinary, Rainbow Dash" Rarity spoke sarcastically in a light English accent as she sipped some tea held in her magical grasp.

"Ah'm sorry, Twi" Applejack turned to Twilight's positioned and apologized with a sad voice "Ah know 'at ya wanted ta talk with us today, but huntin' gits us money ta pay fer our homes and food, and y'all know that we need 'em ta live."

"No, no, I understand" Twilight nodded "I know that hunting pays big and taxes are huge in Equestria. Please, for your families, go out and have some fun!"

"Thank you, Twilight..." Fluttershy softly spoke up "You know, you could always join us on our hunts, y'know... if you wanted to, of course..."

"Thank you, Fluttershy, but I'm more of an indoors mare" the lavender Unicorn honestly said "But I can still help you guys! I know everything there is to know about monsters! I've studied every single one and know of every single-"

"Twi, this one may be a lil'... different..." Applejack spoke "'Ere sayin' it's a new species o' monster 'at nopony's ever seen before. We have no idea what it could do ta ya! Once we find one and hunt it down, an' more importantly find it's attacks and weaknesses, yer free ta examine it whenever ya want."

"Oh..." Twilight hung her head slightly "Well, um... Have fun on your hunt, you five!"

"Thank you, Darling" Rarity had finished her tea and got up from her seat, taking her Gold Rathian Bow, the Selene Moonbroken, with her magic "We won't be long. After our hunt, we promise to talk with you all day."

"See ya, Twi!" Rainbow waved farewell before turning back to her team "Okay... Fluttershy, go get your Hunting Horn. Applejack, get your Switch Axe. Pinkie, your Heavy Bowgun, and I'll get my Duel Blades. Got it?"

"Got it!" everypony shouted at the same time, except Fluttershy who was about two seconds late with her cheer, and slightly quieter.

Before Twilight knew it, her five friends were already off to hunt down whatever they were trying to find. The lavender Unicorn let out a slightly saddened sigh, but she quickly regained her posture once she reminded herself that hunting wasn't in her blood. Being Princess Celestia's prized pupil, she was paid a handsome amount every session the two had to help support her literal tree house and her pet Spike.

"I hope those five have fun today" I smiled as I read the book I was reading previously before I fell asleep last night on my bed "What do you think, Spike?" I turned to the baby Azure Rathalos that was also in my room, playing with a Felyne plush I got him one day. He turned to me and me gave of a small cry of agreement

"Ah, Spike. You're always there to have my back on things..." I sighed before going back to my book "Y'know, I don't mind this life. It's peaceful, quiet, and it gives me time to read my books. Though, sometimes I wish that my life was slightly more exciting..."

Little did I know that my wish would come very, very soon. And not exactly in the good way.

If you didn't know this about me (For some weird reason. I mean, c'mon; my avatar is a Shagaru Magara!), I'm a huge Monster Hunter fan. I've only played Tri and 3U, but that's honestly enough to get one into a series as awesome as this! And since Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate is out now, I've decided to make a story to celebrate such an event. So... here it is!
