8. The First Question

Belief is the only thing that’s kept me going the past 27 hours. I believed I could find some pony that doesn’t seem to want to harm me. I was thought I was wrong but the events that have happened to me in the past few hours seem to have contradicted everything. But worst of all, they were contradicted right in front of me while I was helpless to defend myself. From them. The ponies that have made the little time I’d had in this place almost hell. And I use almost very, very narrowly here.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...

‘Who are you?’ She purple mare asked, with a stern and humourless expression.

I backed up immediately. I was in trouble for the 4th time in 18 hours. I probably appeared to be more of a scaredy-cat than Fluttershy because for some mad reason, her stern expression gave way to a laugh. Both ‘Twilight’ the dragon and I seemed to laugh. It was then I realised that, although the name was girly, it probably belonged to the mare in front of me, not the dragon.

‘What are you looking at?’ she asked, looking behind her to check if something was wrong, ‘Spike, is something wrong? This wasn’t covered in the books.’

‘Twilight, I’ve seen this fella before.’

‘Really? Where? ‘

‘At Rarity’s. It followed me here last night.’ I was being completely ignored. I decided to make a run for it but a whimper gave me away. Stupid wooden floor. Stupid splinter. Twilight turned her head and the mystical aura appeared again on the end of her horn. Except for her it was purple. It seemed to have locked the door. I gave up my escape and decided to look at the thousands of books. One caught my eye though. An Eggheads Guide to Animals: Mammals.

‘Wow. I… I don’t know what to say, Spike, except- What’s that?’ I had been trying to open the book with my muzzle but it didn’t want to open. Both the Unicorn and Dragon came over. Spike opened the book and it came to a diagram.

Identification chart. How many legs does it walk on?

‘I think we should figure out what you are. Let’s see. Four legs.’ She smiled and traced the line with her hoof.

‘Does it resemble any type of common pet? Looks like a dog.’ The dragon said, staring at me.

‘That answers the next few questions. Nice observation, Spike.’ I wasn’t feeling any empathy for him anymore. He actually seemed kind of proud of his observation. But the picture near the bottom of the page pretty much summed up my body.

‘Canine. Medium sized. Bushy Tail. Orange.’

‘A faux? What’s that?’ The dragon now seemed less proud. I couldn’t help but smirk.

‘Spike. It’s a fox. Foxes. Rare canines, cunning and sneaky, can live on berries, nuts and some fruit... Here, common habitats, most commonly found near Trottingham and Fillydelphia? But that’s miles away from Ponyville. That’s the complete other side of Equestria. How did you get here, little guy?’ My eyes had widened as much as both Twilight’s and Spike’s. How could I be over here? I don’t even remember anything before the forest.

‘Maybe Fluttershy knows him. She does know of every animal around Ponyville. Maybe he escaped from her or something?’ The dragon was trying to be helpful but when he mentioned Fluttershy I knew I was in trouble. I guessed the only way to avoid all of this was to escape. But the door was locked. The windows? Locked too. A back room was accessible. I slowly made my way there as the duo of Pony and Dragon tried to figure out a plan.

For what seemed like forever, I had a chance to escape without any pony knowing I’d gone. But something made me stop as I reached the balcony. Maybe I should stop running? I can’t run forever. They will find me eventually. My brain told… no, was screaming at me to leave. But I couldn’t. I just couldn’t.  Something was keeping me here. Twilight had found out what I was. She could help to figure out how I’d gotten here. She could shed a little light on the mystery of a life I was experiencing. I lay on the floor, staring into the sky. A cloud hovered near by. It was just hanging there. A small white cloud, with a pink tail and a rainbow tail protruding out of its backside.

Oh No...
