12. The Note

When I found myself here, I shouldn’t have run, I realise that now. But I always thought that when you think your life is one the line, you should run. I now have too many conflicting interests. Should I, shouldn’t I’s. I figured that I would regret what I hadn’t done more than what I had. So I did run. But I should have embraced what I’ve got and who I’ve got. I shouldn’t have let myself get this way. I’m frightened. I’m paranoid. I’m… alone.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...   ...

‘So, Lunar. How’d you meet all my friends?’ She asked. I thought about it. I could get her on my side or at least have her sympathy. So I explained.

‘Well, I found myself in a forest near Fluttershy’s house. I tried to get near but she chased me off. I ran until another pony, your friend Rainbow Dash, bumped into me and made me tumble down the hill I was running up. She took me to her house and seemed suspicious whenever I saw her. But when she caught my gaze, she was holding a really big knife and was smiling. It freaked me out…’

‘Fluttershy? Crazy? A Knife?’ repeated Twilight, ‘Oh my, Lunar. Fluttershy wouldn’t hurt a fly. She’s scared off everything.’

‘I noticed…’ I mumbled. She didn’t believe me. When she saw me rolling her eyes, she sighed and waved Fluttershy over. Fluttershy glided towards us with a smile.

‘Oh, I’m so glad you’re alright. I was scare you were going be asleep for a long time.’ Fluttershy smiled, ‘Oh, and I’m sorry I scared you. I didn’t mean to scare you. I was looking at Angel at the time because I was chopping carrots for his lunch time carrot soup. Please forgive me.’

‘See. How could she kill you?’ Twilight was pressuring me to make up to Fluttershy. And to be honest, it didn’t sound like she would kill me. And the explanation was pretty fool-proof.

‘I don’t know how I ever through she would.’ I said through my teeth, I still didn’t trust her but she must be okay if Twilight trusted her. Fluttershy went skipping back to her friends. Every pony except Twilight was almost huddled in the middle of the room. Twilight and I were standing by the stairs to what looked like a bedroom. I looked around. The library was certainly massive but how many books were there? Did Twilight know the names to all of them? Had she read every single book?

‘Umm…Lunar? Hello?’ Twilight sat, waving a hoof in front of my face. I snapped back into line and continued my story.

‘After I left Fluttershy’s, I bumped into Pinkie. She’s weird. She’s hyperactive. She’s very childish. But I immediately started to like her. Next thing she did was invite me to sugar cube corner to play with her niece and nephew. She must be older than I thought to have a niece and nephew. How old is she anyway?’

‘I don’t actually know…’

‘Anyway, I went with her, the foal nearly killed me and she offered me a place for the night. I was going to stay but Rainbow Dash came looking for me. She was helping Fluttershy, I think. So I ran for it. I felt bad about not saying goodbye though. Pinkie is actually really nice.’

‘Of course I am, you silly-billy. I have so many friends.’ Pinkie jumped in from nowhere, she’d been listening to our conversation. She scared me and giggled as Pinkie lifted me up onto her back and bounced around the room

‘Pinkie, can I get off?’

‘Okie-dokey-lokey.’ She bounded back over to Twilight and bucked me off. I landed on my paws but it seemed a very odd thing to do. Once again, she hopped over to her friends and started to make them laugh.

‘Don’t mind her. That’s Pinkie being Pinkie.’

‘Fine. Anyway, I was running from Rainbow Dash, through the middle of town and managed to lose her in the alleyways. She found me again but ended up flying into a bell. She almost fell off the roof. I saved her. She tried to stand and did fall off. I saved her again.’ I proclaimed, Twilight’s face getting more and more confused, ‘I took her to the lake to try and wake her up but she spooked me when I was drinking some water and scared me off again. She never even thanked me for saving her life. Twice.’

‘That’s because you caused it!’ Dash flew over and landed. She knew she was being talked about. ‘And I never did get to know you saved me. I was out cold, remember?’ She started to blush. Of course, I’d been so worried about going back to Fluttershy to ever think of that.

‘Oh, sorry about that.’ I smiled, with a bad poker face. I knew my mistake and now both Twilight and Rainbow did too.

‘You shouldn’t assume things. She’s actually a very nice mare.’ Twilight consoled. Dash was grinning. You could almost hear her head inflating with arrogance.

‘And Dash,’ Twilight turned to the light blue mare, ‘you should have explained to him about what happened…’

‘But…’

‘No buts.’ I started to laugh as Rainbow walked away, groaning. She gave me the evil eyes and walked away. I only stopped because Twilight was going to have a moan at me. To avoid it, I carried on my story.

‘So again I ran off, and again she chased me. I ran into Rarity’s shop and hid. Rarity was at first worried, but started to talk about my coat of fur.’ I looked at it, it was actually quite comfortable, and looked quite silky, ‘she was grooming me for quite a while. It was slightly weird and I tried to escape-‘

‘So that’s why she apologised…’

‘-but Rainbow Dash came looking again. I was trapped behind the door whilst Rarity ran off with Rainbow. I tried to leave but-‘

‘That’s where I came in.’ Spike stood, leaning against the stairs, ‘I must admit I was confused at why you were with Rarity but now I understand.’ He frowned, ‘I don’t ever seem to get enough time with Rarity.’

‘Spike. Don’t worry. Look.’ Twilight piped up and pointed to Rarity, ‘She’s over there all alone. Go. Talk to her.’ She seemed urgent to get rid of him. Perhaps she wanted me to finish my story without all the interruptions. Spike plodded off to Rarity and found himself barged out of the way by an eager Pinkie Pie, who also wanted to talk to Rarity it seemed. I laughed again.

‘So…’ I chuckled, still laughing, ‘I followed Spike, found a letter addressed to you from Applejack. So I wondered off to her apple orchard. It was the first time I’d actually got any peace. So I sat next to the barn to relax and I fell asleep. It was an accident as I explained to Applejack when she found me.’

‘Now, that there is a big ol’ lie. You couldn’t talk, could ya? Now, I’d like to think you’d be honest with Twilight here.’ Applejack, the fifth being, to interrupt me during this story, butted in.

‘Oh yeah. Oops. Sorry Applejack, I forgot you couldn’t understand me.’

‘Now that’s more like it. And y’all know you could have just asked for a place to stay.’

‘I remember that in the future. Thanks, Applejack.’

‘Call me AJ.’ She winked, and turned to her friends again. I was left staring at the kind mare, my mouth agape.

‘Lunar? Are you okay? You’re staring at Applejack.’ Twilight asked.

‘Yeah.’

‘Are you listening to me?’

‘Yeah.’

‘What am I saying?’

‘Ye- I almost fell for that.’ I snapped out of my staring. I had been daydreaming. I’d never done that before. I looked over to Twilight, who gave me the most baffled stare ever and then sighed. I believe she was as frustrated as I was with all the interruptions.

‘With regards to the story, I’m guessing you got chased from Sweet Apple Acres and ended up here if I’ve got my timing right.’

‘Yeah.’

‘Will you please stop that?’

‘Okay’ I laughed; she seemed to get irritated as easily as me.

‘Lunar. Can I ask? Are you at all paranoid? You seemed to be doing some really weird things.’ She had been confused throughout the story and now she revealed why. She thought I was insane.

‘Twilight. Let me just say. I don’t know what I’m doing here. I don’t know how I’ll get home. I don’t even remember having a home so sorry if I’m paranoid.’ My eye twitched throughout the speech. As soon as I was done I retreated up the stairs and lock myself in the room. I didn’t know what to do so I walked out onto the balcony. I wasn’t insane. I was… alone.

I took a breath of fresh air to calm down and I looked up at the stars, and down at the ground, with only a blank note book and some ink with a quill. I realised what I had to do. I walked to the railings around the balcony. I looked up at the sky and closed my eyes. I whispered a few words as I contemplated my story.

I decided this is my note. I just hope someone finds this.
