Chapter 1: Books Don't Just Grow Legs and Walk Away! They Run, Duh!

Books Don't Just Grow Legs and Walk Away! They Run, Duh!

She swung the door open slowly. She didn't want to wake Opalescence, who would most likely greet her with another tail cut and a snotty grin, so she made her best attempt to tread lightly upon entering the room. Rarity was out on business that she never really knew about and she was sure she wouldn't for a while.

'Probably something clothe-related' The filly thought to herself as she found herself exploring the darkened room further and further.

Half way into the room, her hoof got caught in the carpet placed in the middle of the room. She insulted the carpet under her breath and attempted to free herself while maintaining her unnoticed state. With a quiet thwomp, her hoof was free. She shot a glance at Opal, who had been in her same sleeping position when she entered the room. She let out a sigh of relief, but quickly covered her mouth as she realized that the noise caused a pair of eyes to burn their gaze into the back of her skull. She let out another sigh, which quivered due to her nervousness. If it was Rarity it was all over. As she turned to the door, she found nothing. She inhaled deeply, turning to the bed where Opalescence was slumbering. Her eyes widened as she realized the marshmallow colored cat was missing.

This was much worse, this cat hated her. She slowly began to scan the room. She never knew that not seeing this hell spawn would be so frustrating. She continued to creep to her destination, ignoring Opal's disappearance as an error. A few more hoof steps later, she reached her destination. With a smile, she began grabbing fabric left and right. Reds, blues, and yellows were her targets but she also grabbed a few redundancies like purples and greens.

She was just about to reach for the white, but noticed that there was a bump protruding ever so slightly out of the splayed out cloth. She shrugged it off as a machine or mannequin part that made its occasional appearance in the room. Grabbing the fabric carefully, she pulled on it, but to no avail, it wouldn't budge. Coming to the conclusion that it must have been stuck on something, she yanked on it. This time, the fabric was subdued by the filly's strength, and so did Opalescence. The cat emerged, both surprised and hostile, and let out a sickening war cry. Opal swiped at the stunned filly. She back peddled to avoid injury from the cat, causing her to collide into something placed conveniently behind her. She turned around to find a wobbling mannequin of a mare. She stood there in awe and horror as the plastic fiber glass mare relinquished herself from stand and collapsed on one of her peers. The other mannequin did the same, falling and breaking one another in a consequential domino effect of collateral proportions.

The clashing was quickly silenced as the last mannequin fell and shattered. The filly was rooted to the ground, but shocked and frightened by what had just transpired. Even Opalescence, the warmonger of a cat was frozen in her spot.

"What in Celestia's name?!" A familiar voice called out directly south of where the filly's stare had been placed. She spun around to greet who had broken the silence.

The voice alone should have hinted at it, but there stood a suffering from the typical "bolt from the blue" shock that both the filly and the feline were just coming out of, was Rarity. Of course, this shock was hastily overthrown by the a rabid vexation.

"SWEETIE BELLE!" Rarity cried out in the loudest yowl she could possibly muster.

Sweetie Belle's fears turned into terrors as her sister approached. Her sister had this murderous intent in her eye.

"H-hey there sis! I was just uh...."

"What?! Stealing my fabric and wrecking my shop two whole days before my deadline of my current order? What is wrong with you?!" She shouted.

"I uh..." She trailed off before coming up with an ingenious idea. "You know what?" She started, removing the fabric from her saddle bags. What she was about to occur would just turn the valued materials into weighty burdens. "How about..."

"What?" Rarity snapped, approaching her younger sibling.

Sweetie Belle's gaze broke from Rarity's magma filled pupils to the door way. Clear shot.

"How about, you hold that thought!" She shouted, sprinting under her sister's legs and to the doorway that held her freedom.

"Hey?! I'm still talking to you!" Rarity said.

A few more feet and Sweetie Belle was Scott free from the hellion's bedroom. Emerging victorious from the bedroom, she made her quick descent down the staircase into the shop. It was messy with materials and tools and there was a steamy cup of fresh ground coffee sitting at the short round table by the stage. She was about to question but quickly realized that she lacked the time to think about it.

She marked her next destination for the front door. As she picked up her pace once more, she stopped at the sudden flash of bright violet light. She covered her eyes with her right hoof briefly to shield herself from being blinded. When she lowered her hoof, her sister stood in front of the doorway with a devilish smirk smeared across her muzzle. Sweetie Belle looked around for another door but quickly realized that was the only door to the open air. Now that she thought about it, most of the homes in Ponyville sort of lacked back doors to begin with.

Rarity approached Sweetie Belle slowly, exaggerating her hoof steps as she made a steady stride to her target of interest. When she finally closed the gap she stared down at the filly with malicious intent in her eyes.

A laugh slowly started to break out from Sweetie Belle as she looked up at her sister.

"What is it; what's so funny?" Rarity asked, a bit confused.

With a half smile and a determined look, she dove out of her sister's reach and sprinted to where a window was in place directly above a violet love seat that hugged the wall beneath it.

"Out!" She answered, raising her voice for dramatic effect. With one quick motion, she gave a zealous dolphin dive towards the window. Her whole world slowed as realized mid-jump that this, in fact, was a horrible idea.

-

"So wait, hold yer horses. You tried to jump out the window?" Apple Bloom repeated in disbelief.

"Yeah... the window was a bit too strong..." Sweetie Belle confirmed, embarrassed by the not so distant memory.

"So that explains the small bandage on your forehead, but why are you-" Scootaloo began.

"I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT!" Sweetie Belle screeched.

The three sat awkwardly in silence. The tree house did match well with the luxurious outfit and make-over that Rarity applied to Sweetie Belle as punishment.
