Pushing open the door to the post office, Derpy was greeted with a chorus of “Hey, Derpy!”s, as was the norm for the gray mail-pegasus. However, along with the warm greetings, there was one less-than-polite comment.
“Oh look who it is, Mrs. Crashalot herself.” A snide voice belted out.
Not even turning towards the source of the rudeness, Derpy tiredly said, “Good morning to you too, Emerald Circlet.” Continuing on her way, she grabbed her mailbag, quickly starting on her way out of the building.
“Heard about your date last night.” Emerald said, blocking Derpy’s exit from the building.
The whole room quieted down, but the mares were too invested in their conversation to notice. “Did you?” Derpy asked, “Because it was amazing.”
“Uh-huh, I’m sure it was. You know, it surprised me even more to find out anyone would even attempt to go out with the likes of you.” Emerald sneered. “Did he just leave right after, too? I mean really, who would even think about staying with you?”
“Oh, I don’t know, probably everypony who’s ever slept with you, you bitchy little slut!” Derpy yelled, getting up in Emerald’s face. “I’ve seen you go home with a different stallion-or mare- every night! In fact, just last week, I saw you with the flower triplets! How were they, hmm? Did they taste as good as they smell?”
Emerald glared at Derpy, her eyes widening. “You... little…” She choked out, “As if anyone could love you! He’s just sleeping with you to get some, you... you cross-eyed freak!”
Derpy gasped, her eyes welling up with tears. Just before she ran off crying, however, she closed her eyes, remembering the things Rush had said to her (My princess...I love hearing the things you say...ray of sunshine…), the things he’s done with her(I love carrying you around...show you how much I love you tonight…), the things he’d done... to her, even(I-it’s beautiful...In th-there? Are you sure?...).
All of these feeling coalesced into a greater feeling, one of self-worth, confidence, love. Opening her eyes and looking at Emerald, she raised her hand, slapping the mare across the face.
Emerald reeled back in shock as she stared, wide eyed, at Derpy. “You… you…” She stammered weakly. “How dare yo-”
She was cut off by another slap, this one ringing throughout the room. “I don’t care what you say about me, but don’t you dare talk about Rush like that, you cunt!” Derpy said in an icy tone.
Emerald took a few steps back from Derpy, her eyes still wide with fear. “You… you’re going t… to pay for doing that!” She threatened as best she could, her eyes tearing up. Turning, she ran out of the building.
“Woah…” Somepony nearby mumbled.
Quickly shifting her gaze in the direction of that pony, Derpy said, “What? You got something to say?”
“N-No!” The pony quickly shook his head, stepping back from her.
“That’s right you don’t…” Derpy mumbled.
Adjusting her mailbag, she stormed out of the door, quickly starting on her mail route.

“Thanks!” The stallion said, Derpy having just handed a package to him. She waved as she flew off, turning towards her next destination.
“Let’s see...next up iiis...Lyra! Ooh, and since I’ve been a bit faster than usual, I can stop by for a few to hang out!” Flying a bit faster, Derpy speedily made her way to Lyra’s house, landing at her door in moments.
After only a moment or two, the door opened up and Derpy was greeted by another familiar face, Bon Bon, who said with a smile, “Derpy! It’s great to see you!”
“Thanks, Bon Bon! You guys were next on my route, and I’m a bit early, so I decided I’d stop in for a bit.” Derpy explained, giving Bon Bon a warm hug.
“Then come on in! Lyra will be ecstatic that you’re here.” Bon Bon said, pulling Derpy into the house.
Just inside the house sat a lime-green mare, who was reading a book. “Bonnie? Who was at- Derpy! Oh, it’s great to see you, Derpy! Where’ve you been lately?” Lyra asked, quickly getting up to grab Derpy, crushing her into a hug.
“Hrrk...Lyra...air...fading…” Derpy said.
“Oh! Right, yeah.” Letting go of Derpy, Lyra sat the three of them down, nuzzling Bon Bon for a moment before turning back to Derpy. “Well?”
“Hooh...well, before I tell you anything, Lyra, you have to promise not to freak out. Pinkie promise, in fact.”
Lyra smiled a little more as she said, “I swear, I won’t freak out.” There was only a moment's pause, before she sighed. “Cross my heart, hope to fly. Stick a cupcake in my eye.”
Derpy eyed Bon Bon for a moment before looking at Lyra, saying, “I’ve been spending the week… with my coltfriend, Rush.”
“Oh my gosh! That’s awesome!” Bon Bon squeed happily, starting to bounce up and down. “When can we meet him!?!”
Lyra was silent for a few moments before she smiled, saying, “It’s wonderful to hear that you have a coltfriend, Derpy.”
“Lyra, you said you’d- what? I-I...that’s it? No anger, no, no rampage to destroy him?” Derpy asked, disbelief in her voice.
Lyra’s smile grew a little as she said, “I said I wouldn’t freak out. And I trust you wouldn’t be dating anyone unless you knew they weren’t some ass.”
Derpy blinked, the reason for Lyra’s calmness making sense. “Well...I suppose that’s a good reason. And, to answer your question Bon Bon, I guess we could all have lunch at some point, and you could all be introduced to one another.”
“I can’t wait to meet him!” Bon Bon cheered.
“What have you two been doing together?” Lyra asked, leaning back into her seat.
“Well… that depends. Do you just mean regular things, or are you asking for more… personal… details?” Derpy asked, nervously smiling.
Lyra’s gaze hardened slightly. “Everything.”
“Ehrrm...well, the other night, we went and had a date at The Fancy Saddle, and-”
Bon Bon cut Derpy off, asking, “You two went to the Fancy Saddle!? Wow, that’s a really huge step for you after only a week!”
Laughing a small bit, Derpy continued, saying, “A while before that, we watched a movie together! It was called… Alien, I think. Scary movie, that one. That’s uh… all we’ve done together..that was children appropriate, at least.…” Derpy mumbled that last part, looking away from the two mares in the room.
Lyra raised an eyebrow, asking, “What was that?”
Blushing, Derpy said, “That’s all that we’ve done...that was child-appropriate.”
“Well, we aren’t children.” Lyra chuckled, “So please, give us the juicy details.”
