Chapter 40
The confession

Void kept his sight glued to the cold floor, he couldn't stand staring back at Vinyl's impatient gaze. He shifted his weight from left to right and back, he didn't know how to stand or what to do, at this moment he couldn't even think straight.

He was scared, more than he ever was before. He didn't want to understand, but he understood nevertheless that this isn't just another stupid decision which won't change anything, this will change everything.

Void searched through his mind, through his memories and ideas to find something reassuring, something to latch on to. All he wanted was a simple thought that could push him in the one direction or the other, and sure enough, he found it.

His vision was filled with scenes of Nova and Princess Luna, smiling and laughing together, he saw Adamant happily rejecting some hot mare as he walked towards Twinkle with a huge grin on his face.

'They had enough balls to try, and here I am almost pissing myself just by thinking about it?' He wanted to laugh at himself, at his miserable approach, at his cowardice, and mostly at his stupidity.

He finally raised his gaze from the floor and stared back at a mare standing in front of him, waiting for his answer.

He smiled and nodded, "I have a friend who once took a bet, a rather stupid bet." Void chuckled, "Believe it or not this stupid bet changed his life for better, most likely forever."

Vinyl stared at him in confusion as he continued, "If it worked out so well for him then maybe I should try too."

Void couldn't help but smile as he watched Vinyl's face switch from her glum expression to a huge smile, her still wet magenta eyes instantly shone brighter as she heard those words. She blushed a little bit and shifted in place, "That's cool."

"Cool? That's all you have to say?" Void asked with a grin.

"I'm happy, what else is there to say?" She sighed, "I acted all lovey-dovey and sad for far too long you know, It didn't feel like myself. You will have to make it up to me." She said with a wink.

"Fair enough, but there's one thing. Let's start all over again."

"What do you mean all over?"

"What else could it mean? Let's take it up from where it started and let's make sure it will go better this time around." He started moving closer to her as he was explaining, "Let's start this by going out somewhere first, and not by having a drugged sex."

"Sounds good." Vinyl said with a nod.

"Well then miss Scratch, would you like to go out with me?" He stood next to her, all the time keeping his gaze at her eyes.

Vinyl smiled and nodded. "I would love to dude."

"So, you're Star's little sister?" Moonlily asked, "Nice to meet you." She said as she eyed her drink before taking a rather big sip from it.

"Pleasure's all mine, I do wish that we could meet—" She stopped as she pondered the wording of her thought, "under more favourable conditions." Twinkle, on the other hand, observed as her coltfriend and her brother once again argued.

This time, however, they were both drunk.

"Why won't you just give me a rest already, you know I love you, I mean her, I mean," He stopped and took another shot, "I love you too man, you're like, my best friend or something." He said and face planted into their table.

Dashing swayed from left to right while he kept his gaze at their bottle, half empty. "Listen," He said as his gaze switched to another bottle, this one, however, was already emptied of her content. "I can't just, 'give you a rest'." He said while making quotation marks with his hooves. "I'm her brother, and I have to protect her."

"From what mate?"

"We both know that you—" he stopped for a second as he forgot what he wanted to say, with a shrug he took another shot and coughed. "Listen, I can't just 'give you a rest'."

"You already said that!"

"For the love of Celestia!" Twinkle commented.

"Colts, can't live without them, can't bear their stupidity." Moonlily said with a chuckle.

"Okay mate," Adamant started, "Lis—listen here." He moved closer in and put his arm around Dashing's shoulder, "I don't know what is love okay, but—" He moved his muzzle away for a moment and coughed. "But I assure you," he continued. "That I will never hurt her, so let's just stop this stupid thing."

"So, no more arguing?" Star asked.

"No more."

They both nodded and took another shot, "I can't believe it." Twinkle said awestruck. "Did that just really happen?"

"Seems like a problem solved itself." Moonlily said with a smile.

"Seems so." Twinkle said, "About damn time." She added quietly.

"Guys, I think I need some fresh air." Dashing said

"That's a really good idea." Adamant added.

"I know this really cool place, it's like a secret meadow with these flowers." He stopped and put his hoof on his mouth.

"Then let's go!" Adamant shouted as he raised his hoof to the air, only to trip over his own legs and fall straight to the ground.

"Colts." Mares said with a disappointed shrug.

"Where are we going?" Vinyl asked as two of them passed by another set of buildings, "I know you said this will be a surprise and all but aren't we getting really close to the town's gate?"

"That's right."

After few more steps, Void noticed the sudden lack of hoof steps behind him, he stopped and looked around where he saw Vinyl glowering at him. "Seriously dude? For our first date, we're going to do some mountain climbing?"

"Don't worry that's not what we're doing, just follow me." He said reassuringly as he started to walk forward.

Vinyl stared at his back in confusion for a couple of seconds before she resumed her walking, "Maybe I should drug him after all."

"I heard that."

"Just kidding, just kidding."

"This was quite a night, wasn't it?" Luna asked her coltfriend as they walked through the royal gardens side by side.

"I guess, I mean I'm still not sure what happened back in the main hall." Nova commented.

Luna sighed, "It seems my sister was very happy about whatever transpired there." She moved closer to Nova, gently nuzzling the side of his muzzle, "Honestly I thought she would be at least a bit mad about the destruction of the main hall." She said with a chuckle.

"I know right?" Nova commented, "But whatever, we can finally enjoy a moment of peace, just the two of us." He said as he sat down, Luna quickly followed suit and sat next to him, resting her head on his shoulder. For a few moments, they just sat there, alone together in royal gardens, stargazing into the night sky.

"You know," Luna decided to finally break the sweet silence, "when I think about it, isn't this the place where you first asked me out?"

He looked around and smiled, "You're right! It seems so long ago, but—"

Luna looked at him slightly confused and asked, "But what?"

Nova completely froze as he suddenly came to a simple yet terrifying thought, the realisation that after all this time he still hadn't told Luna about how it all started with a bet.

"I—It's nothing really, just a stupid thought."

Princess of the night grew curious, but luckily for him, she decided to not dwell into this conversation, instead she once again rested her head against his shoulder and simply enjoyed the stargazing.

Nova however, couldn't enjoy their time together, not anymore at least as these scary thoughts started to flood his mind. Every time he tried to resolve one problem in his head another one came along, when he stopped fearing for one outcome he suddenly came up with next, more terrifying one.

What if she breaks up with me? I just recently realised I love her I don't want to lose her, not to mention that she's a goddamn Princess so I could even end up on the moon. One after another these thoughts stormed his brain until he came to a critical point.

An imaginary vision of infuriated Princess Celestia, with even more infuriated Captain Riddick standing by her side.

This is where he couldn't handle it silently anymore and he suddenly stood up, startling his marefriend in the process.

"Hey, what gives?" Luna asked.

"I'm sorry but, I—" He nervously looked around as his breathing became faster and faster, "I have to go." He simply exclaimed and dashed away from the scene, leaving the Princess sitting under the starry sky, alone with her confusion.

Supernova ran like crazy through the hallways of Canterlot Castle, he didn't have any particular goal or direction for that matter, he simply run hoping to find someone who can help him, give him an advice. He looked around hoping to see the familiar faces of his friends, but they were nowhere to be found.

And so he run, until he felt his face colliding with something fluffy and hairy, he shook his head and looked up where he saw former Lord of Chaos himself, staring down at him with confusion and amusement gleaming from his eyes.

"What do we have here," Discord commented, "a lost little pony."

Nova stared at him blankly, after a few moments he sighed and while looking at the floor he said, "I guess this will do."

"Excuse me?"

"Discord, listen I really need someone to talk to right now." Nova said, "I would be really grateful if you could give me an advice on, well, rather major problem."

Discord's muzzle lit up as he coiled his snake-like body around Nova, slightly nuzzling him, "Oh my dear Nova, you don't even know how much I would like to help."

"Excuse me?" Nova asked, now with his fears temporarily changed to bewilderment. "That's great, but could you maybe, you know," He pushed him away lightly with his hoof, "Move your muzzle a few inches away from my muzzle."

"Oh, pardon." He said and quickly disappeared in a puff of smoke, making Nova cough a little before reappearing in front of him, this time wearing a brown checkered suit with a black necktie. "So what seems to be the problem?" He asked.

Nova sighed, "It's a rather long story but—" He was cut short as he suddenly began to levitate, only to fall on a red therapist couch a few moments later. He glowered at Discord for a few moments who in turn only shrugged and took out few notes and a pen.

"Then the sooner we start the better!"

This place is incredible.

This simple thought coursed around everyone's mind as the four friends made their way into the secret meadow behind the Canterlot City.

"This is, just—"

"I know, this sight never ceases to amaze me, no matter how many times I come here, it always feels like the very first time." Dashing said.

Both girls gave him a confused look, then they looked at each other for a second before Twinkle asked, "Seems like you already kinda, sobered up?"

"Oh, not in the least ladies," Adamant said swinging back and forth, "This dude has like these weird, stages when he's drunk." He said and laid down amidst the flowers. Partly because he wanted to, partly because he had to.

"For next half an hour or something like that he will be super polite and gentlecolty, he will use fancy words and—and" He took a deep breath and laid his muzzle on the floor. "and stuff."

"Will he?" Moonlily asked in disbelief.

"Fear not my lady." Dashing said as he took her hoof and raised it gently to his muzzle, "I would never do anything to disturb your enjoyment of our little rendezvous, not now when we're here in this magical place, with Princess Luna's starry sky watching over us, nor never." He finished his sentence with a gentle kiss to her hoof.

Moonlily simply stared blankly at him for a few seconds before she turned slightly to Twinkle, "You reckon we could make it permanent somehow?"

Twinkle shrugged while Dashing simply chuckled a few times, "Oh my beloved Moonlily, your wish is my command, if it is what you want then I shall make sure to accompany you like this forever." He said and took her hoof with confidence.

She blushed a little and giggled quietly.

"Ye that won't happen."

Both girls turned their attention to Adamant who slightly raised his head from the ground, "Excuse me?" Moonlily asked.

"You heard me, that's just a stage, in half an hour it'll be gone."

She looked back at her coltfriend who only smiled reassuringly, she smiled back to him and quickly turned her attention to Adamant, "What happens after that?"

"I think he will just be drunk again."

Moonlily sighed and quickly smiled, "It's for the best I guess, this is nice and all but I think I prefer Dashing just the way he is."

"Ohh, that's so sweet." Twinkle said with a smile and looked back to her coltfriend with mild disappointment, "Why can't you act all chivalry when you're drunk."

He shrugged and smiled, "I don't know, but I know I love you, and you love me." He looked at her for a few moments before his smiled disappeared and he gave her a questioning look, "Right?" He asked.

Twinkle chuckled and laid down next to him, "Right." She said and lightly nuzzled him.

"Oh boy, I didn't expect this place to be so packed."

Four friends perked up and turned their attention to the new voice coming from the entrance to the meadow, all four of them smiled as they saw Void standing there together with awestruck Vinyl.

"Dude, this is really cool." She commented.

"I told you so." Void said as they walked up to their friends, "Sorry for this crowd, it's rather unexpected."

"Unexpected, but not unpleasant." Vinyl said with a smile.

"We'll see about that."

Dashing was the first to greet the newcomers as he walked up to the new couple with a bright smile and big gleam in his eyes. "I'm so delighted to see you two together, it was my dearest wish for you two to find happiness on this very special day." He said and gently hugged first Void and then Vinyl, confusing the latter.

"Was he always like that?" She asked Void quietly.

"He's probably drunk, it's a thing that sometimes happens to him when he drinks too much." He grinned, "It's really amusing when you get used to it."

Vinyl just nodded and suddenly was approached by Twinkle and Moonlily, who first introduced themselves and then proceeded to ask poor mare tonnes of questions. "A little help?" She whispered to Void.

"I'll leave you to it." Void quickly said and walked over to other colts leaving Vinyl alone in a storm of curious mares.

"Shouldn't you help your lady when she's in such a peril?" Dashing asked.

"I think she can handle herself." He said as he watched Vinyl switching her confused gaze back and forth between Twinkle and Moonlily.

"Hey dude, I'm happy you know, for you." Adamant added down from the floor.

"Thanks."

"Also," Sky took a deep breath and started to sing, "Void and Vinyl sitting in a tree!"

"Really dude?" Void asked unamused.

"I can't help it, I'm drunk."

Void sighed and sat down, "Just carry on then."

"I see, I see." Discord commented as he looked down at his notes where he drew a rather poor looking version of himself with a crown atop of his head. "That certainly seems like a troubling matter."

"I know."

"But I think I have a way out of this."

Nova slightly grinned as he looked at Discord with hope, " You do?"

"Okay Novy, here's the deal." His suit disappeared along with a couch Nova was laying in, which resulted in the said colt's meeting with cold floor.

Nova looked up to see Discord standing in front of flying blackboard with a small plastic stick pointing to the only words written on it, "Tell her the," Discord suddenly turned blackboard around revealing a bright sparkling word written on it, "TRUTH!"

"For Faust sake, if it was so simple I wouldn't bother talking to you." Nova said slightly irritated.

"Oh but it is that simple," Discord said, "don't get me wrong, I cannot predict what her reaction will be, maybe she won't care at all or maybe she will decide that it's the worst thing ever, however." He walked up to Nova and offered him his lion paw, "I know for sure that if you won't tell her now, it will come out sooner or later. She is the Princess of dreams after all."

Discord helped him stand up and lightly brushed him off with a brush he summoned, "And if she finds out by herself then no matter what she thinks about it, she will be hurt."

His words hit Nova like a brick, he knew Discord was right, he didn't expect lord of Chaos to be of much help in this matter, and yet he told him exactly what he needed to hear. Supernova smiled nervously and nodded. "Got it, tell her the truth, thanks Discord."

"No problem, that's what friends are for, right?" Nova looked at him indifferently making lord of Chaos slightly nervous, he moved his face closer and asked again, "Right?"

Nova started to laugh as he realised that Discord was genuinely asking him, "Yes Discord, that's what friends are for, thanks." He said.

"I'm glad then." Discord said and with a smile he waved his lion paw, "I'll leave you to it, I have my own things to do." He said and disappeared into thin air, leaving Nova alone in the hallway. With his decision made up he didn't waste any time and rushed to the royal gardens, hoping that she's still there.

Luna sat down in the same spot they sat together, still confused and mad about her coltfriend's behaviour. She sighed and stood up, I guess he's not coming back.

"Luna! Wait!" A sudden shout stopped her from leaving, she turned around and saw her said coltfriend dashing into the gardens as quickly as he left them.

"Fancy meeting you here." She said glowering down at him, "Can you explain to me why did you leave me here alone, not to mention made me wait this long for you to come back?"

"I know you're mad, and I'm sorry but—" Nova took a deep breath and shook his head, Now or never he told himself.

"But there's something I must tell you."
