Chapter 134: 134. Crime prevention and a surprise from home
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAfter Midnight's unusual stay in Appleoosea and making a new friend by helping him come out to his crush of three years, he had decided to fly west to Las Pegasus. It took around ten hours to fly to the city even at a hundred miles per hour. Once her landed however it took him a few minutes to properly stretch his wings and be able to fold them back into place at his sides.
As Midnight began to walk the streets of the bustling city he couldn't help but look in awe at how alive and moving everypony was, even at this hour. (1 am) Lights were flashing all around him trying to convince him to step into a casino or bar, there were many nightclubs and even a few brothels down the street he was walking on. Upon passing a brothel however he just gave a shudder thinking about the previous days events that had scared him for life. He still couldn't get the taste out of his mouth from that kiss. As he walked along however he came upon an Inn, it was late and he still had a few days left to relax and enjoy his small vacation. Upon entering the Inn however he looked to see that nopony was behind the counter and there was no bell on the counter like in most Inn's. So he took a seat while pulling a magazine from a end table next to him beside the couch. After a few minutes he let out a large yawn before looking to the counter to see it still vacant of the caretaker. He walked back over and stopped as he hear some shuffling behind the door that was behind the counter.
Midnight trained his ears to the door as he listened quietly to the sounds, making out several voices talking, one was ordering another pony to do something while another was pleading with them to stop what they were doing.
"Dammit.......... Did I seriously walk in on a fight or robbery?" Midnight groaned at his luck as his horn lit up casting an invisibility spell onto himself just before the door opened revealing two masked stallions, one was holding a knife in his magical grasp while the other was a much larger pegasus around the size of Luna.
"Come on, we need to fly!" the pegasus shouted to the unicorn who was about to jump onto his back but froze mid jump as he was encased in a magical field. The pegasus turned back seeing this. "What the fu......." He was stopped mid sentence as he froze up as well.
"What have we here? Two thieves trying to make off with a bag of bits. Not a very nice thing to do." Midnight spoke up as he released his invisibility spell showing himself to the two ponies who could only stare in disbelief. But before Midnight could continue he heard a soft groan coming from the room behind the counter.
"You two chill here for a moment while I check on that noise." Midnight snarled to the two before stepping behind the counter and through the door to see an earth pony laying hogtied on the floor with a gash across his head. After removing the bonds, the pony sat up onto his haunches swaying slightly as Midnight healed his wound.
"You ok sir?" Midnight asked as he used a scan spell to check the ponies vitals.
"I'll be alright, thank you. I'm just a bit angry those punks got away with my money." He sighed.
"Well, they got about twenty feet away." Midnight chuckled as the ponys expression turned to surprised as he left the room followed by the Alicorn. Upon exiting the back room and rounding the counter he saw the two ponys floating in mid air within a magical field then looked back to the Alicorn.
"Did you do this?" He asked in shock.
"Yes, and I believe that bag belongs to you." Midnight nodded to the bag floating alongside the unicorn. The earth pony trotting up and taking it in his mouth as he went back into the back room and placed it within his safe once more, then returning to the front.
"What should we do with these two?" Midnight asked nodding to the thieves as he floated them over to them.
"I can notify the authorities if you can give me a minute." He said getting a nod from Midnight.
After about ten minutes, several police ponies filed into the Inn. All of which were unicorns. Some quick explanations were given before the two ponies were hauled off to jail. By this time it was nearing three in the morning causing the Alicorn to yawn.
"I take it you came by to get a room?" The innkeeper smiled up to the Alicorn who only nodded back giving another yawn.
"Her, you can take the royalty suite, no charge, it's the least I could do for you helping me like that." He smiled as he placed a key onto the counter.
"No I couldn't possibly take a free room......" He trailed off seeing the stallion raise a hoof.
"I won't accept any other way. Call it an even trade since you saved a me a lot of time and money to catch those two later. One night in our royal sweet isn't even a fair trade in my opinion. Still it's the least I can do." He smiled.
"I guess I have no other choice then." Midnight chuckled as the key floated to him within a field of magic.

The following morning Midnight awoke to the smell of pancakes and freshly brewed coffee. He looked around his room drowsily before seeing a small food cart near an open table. A plate with a clear glass cover over it revealing a large stack of pancakes. To its side was a stick of butter and a small container of syrup. A coffee pot and cup sat in front of the plate as well, already steaming hot.
"Better not offend the nice pony who brought this in for me." Midnight chuckled as he strode from the bed and began to eat at the table.
A short time later Midnight appeared downstairs in the lobby to see the older looking earth pony behind the counter talking to a young mare. As he neared the counter he placed the key onto the counter giving a smiled.
"Thanks for the room and breakfast, I had better get along though. I need to run around and check out the city." Midnight smiled nodding to the ponies as he began to leave.
"Sir?" Came the voice of the young mare as she strode around the counter toward the Alicorn.
"Yes?" He said as he turned around before stopping in surprise as he was suddenly wrapped in a hug by the young mare. "Thank you........ for saving my father." She spoke in a muffled tone as she buried her face into his chest hugging tighter.
"It's no problem. Just glad I was in the right place at the right time." He chuckled giving a hug back before letting go.
"If there's anything you need, just come by and ask." The older stallion chimed in.
"Well, this is my first time in Las Pegasus, some recommendations on places to go would help." Midnight chuckled before seeing the young mare beam.
"I have the perfect places to go for you, just give me a minute." She giggled before quickly trotting into the back office.
"Honey, don't pass off another one of your lists to another customer. You remember what happened the last time don't you?" The older stallion groaned while rubbing the bridge of his nose.
"Oh hush daddy, It was just a fluke that they were remodeling at the time, besides, that pony didn't get hurt bad enough to go to the hospital." She said as she trotted back through the door hoofing a small piece of paper to Midnight. "I made a list of the best places to go that are for either a small or large budget, and if your the gambling type or the conservative type. In total, eight different lists." She beamed happily.
"Wow, you've done your homework. Thanks." Midnight smiled as he looked the list over before leaving the Inn.

It was around lunch time as Midnight had continued walking through the streets around the city to just take in the sites before he would start on his list of places to visit. Upon taking many pictures with his camera and finding a little out of the way restaurant to eat lunch, he pulled the list out to start his day off.
"Let's see here." He hummed quietly before picking out a list. "Lets go with the big spender package." He smirked as he read down the list. "First stop, Mare-in-time Casino." He said to himself as he flipped the paper over to see where it was located on the map. After a quick glance he smiled seeing that it was just a couple streets over. He took flight making the quick trip there before landing in front of a large fully lit entrance.
As he walked up to the doors a couple unicorns used there magic to open the door for him giving a slight bow.
"Welcome to "Mare-in-time Casino. Please enjoy your visit sire." They spoke out in unison. Midnight giving a nod to them as he entered the building.
As he was walking through the entrance he could help but gaze in awe at all of the lights and sounds that blended in as white noise around him. Slot machines were going off left and right, ponies playing craps, blackjack, and roulette, among other games. Some looking as if they had lost everything while others hitting jackpots. It was all so much to take in, well that was until he saw something that made his heart leap into his throat.
"No....... fucking......WAY!" He choked out as he gazed upon something he never thought he would see again. "My old car!?" He nearly shouted as he rushed over to it seeing that it was indeed his car. After a few minutes he blinked looking around to see other items of human origin in the area.
"Excuse me sir, can I help you?" A stallion spoke up as he walked over to Midnight.
"Yea, would this be a museum?" He asked looking around at everything.
"Yes, this is the only museum slash Casino in Las Pegasus. Why do you ask?"
"Because this is my old car I donated to a museum almost a year ago." He chuckled as he looked it over giving a huge smile.
"Then you must be....." He stopped as Midnight spoke up.
"Midnight Flame. Previously a human, but now an Alicorn." He chuckled seeing the stallion smile.
"Ace." The stallion smiled putting his hoof out and giving the Alicorn a hoof bump. "If you don't mind my ignorance on the subject, I would like to ask you some questions about this item you donated." He spoke out as he levitated a pad and pencil to in front of him.
"No prob." Midnight smiled as they began to chat about the car.
After about an hour, and two notebooks completely filled later, the questioning came to a close.
"Hey, do you mind if I get in and start'er up?" Midnight asked Ace with a smile.
"Start it up? You mean you know how?!" He spoke in slight shock.
"Yea, didn't the princess give you my handbook on the car as well?" He asked rather surprised.
"No, all we received was this item, or car as you call it. and a set of keys. But we attempted to start it but were unable." He sighed as he opened a small portal and pulling out a set of keys. "Your welcome to try if you want." He said while handing the keys over.
"Let me show you a few things about this beast." Midnight chuckled as he shrunk his size a little so he could fit his head easily inside the car before putting the keys into the ignition. Using his magic he pressed the clutch and brake down while putting the car into neutral before turning the key causing the car to roar to life and scare quite a few ponies near it. Midnight closed his eyes as he listened to the roar of the engine. After a few seconds he opened his eyes while hearing the faint sound of music from his stereo.
"What in the............" He trailed off as he turned the key off but leaving power still flowing through the speakers as he increased the volume, listening intently to the stereo. As he listened his eyes nearly bugged out of his head.
"What's wrong Midnight?" Ace asked as he noticed the Alicorns expression of shock.
"The radio...........it's playing news from my home world." He spoke in total shock.
