Chapter 110: 110. Redemption (part 1)

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

"Why does the Great and powerful Trixie always end up taking the wrong path?" Trixie groaned as she hit yet another dead end on a long forgotten road. She gave a heavy sigh as she turned around and continued her trot down the path she had just traveled heading back to the main road. After an hours travel she arrived back at the crossroads she had taken earlier. She looked down the path she had travel from earlier that then took her down the path she had just came back from, looking down the third path she sighed as she began her trot down it this time.

A few hours passed before Trixie finally found herself to tired to continue on, she found a spot on the side of the road where she was comfortable enough to sleep for the night and continue on in the morning. She nestled in pulling her hat off and turning it into a makeshift pillow before pulling her cape around her and bundling up. She cast a warming spell onto her cape to keep her warm through the cold night. After giving a tired sigh she began to doze off only to be awoken by the soft clip clop of hooves against the dirt road. She gave a slight groan as she peered through the bush she was laying behind to see a soft orange glow of a flickering flame coming down the road. After a few moments her eyes went wide seeing a dark black coated pony that stood taller than Celestia herself, with a mane and tail made of fire. She curled up tighter as she watched the evil looking pony trot by before stopping as she had accidentally brushed up against the bush from craning her neck to see him.

The evil looking pony turned his glowing red eyes back to the bush that she was hiding behind causing her to gasp and pull back quickly only to cause the bush to rustle louder than the first time. She gave a silent curse as she watched the orange glow from the unknown pony began to get brighter along the ground as he began to trot back toward her. The hoof steps quickly stopped as a deep voice spoke out.

"Is somepony there? Please come out if so. I am not here to harm you, unless of course you intend to harm me, then we might have a problem." The pony gave a soft chuckle as he continued to stand there. After a couple minutes of standing there Trixie watched as the glow began to decrease as the sound of hoofsteps began to grow quiet in the distance and then silence. She slowly left her secluded spot shaking slightly as she looked down the path she was going to take in the morning.

"What in Equestria was that?!" She spoke softly before freezing as a bright orange light suddenly appeared behind her.

"THAT was an Alicorn that just played a trick on somepony to get them to come out from hiding." Midnight chuckled from behind the frozen mare. "Now then, I can see that you're a unicorn, and from the cape, probably an entertainer. So answer me this one question. Why is an entertainer such as yourself scared of me?" He spoke as he trotted to in front of the frozen pony.

"I........ uh...........well..........." She stuttered to try and find her words but stopped as Midnight's horn lit up surrounding her in magic. She let out a shriek in terror trying to get away before seizing up within the magical field. Midnight slowly floating her to in front of him as he spoke.

"No screaming, I'm just trying to help you." He said as he removed the seize spell allowing her to move again.

"Then why do you have me in the air?! PUT ME DOWN!" She yelled before realizing she had just screamed at an Alicorn. "I'm so sorry your majesty, please forgive me." She spoke through her hooves that were now covering her face out of fear. Her eyes snapped open though hearing a loud chuckle coming from Midnight, and then she felt the ground pressing to her hooves. She looked up seeing the Alicorn laughing.

After a moment his chuckles came to a stop as he looked down to the azure unicorn. "I was simply lifting you onto my back so we could travel into town together. Your hooves look a little worse for wear. With the way you were acting I figured you might run away before we could have a chat." He smiled as he lifted the mare into the air once again and placed her onto his back. She gave a gasp as she was lowered into the fire mane but stopped as she felt warmth, but not pain.

"But how?" She began only to hear Midnight chuckle.

"Magic my dear, Now how about we head into town."

"Wait please, I left my hat behind that bush over there." Trixie said causing him to head back. He looked around only to see the hat float up and onto her head as she pulled it from the bush with her magic. "Ok, now Trixie is ready." She smiled.

"Trixie huh?" He smiled.

"Yes, I am the Great and Powerful Trixie, and who might you be kind sir? I was not aware that another Alicorn was present in Equestria, much less a male one." She giggled.

"Midnight Flame, You may have heard of me." He smiled.

"I'm sorry but no, I have not heard of you." She said as she leaned to the side looking at him. He smiled back giving a wink.

"No hard feelings sugar, and don't worry about formalities. I'm not royalty, just another pony from Ponyville." He chuckled.

"Ponyville? Wait, you mean we're heading toward Ponyville?" She gawked slightly in shock.

"Yea, something wrong with that?" He asked coming to a stop.

"Well, I have a history with Ponyville." She sighed biting her lip nervously.

"Was what you did bad? Did you hurt somepony?" He asked as he continued his trot.

"In a manner of speaking you could say what I did was bad. I was doing my performance in the town square and told the townsponies I vanquished an Ursa Major but didn't. Two young colts found an Ursa Minor in the Everfree forest and brought it into town for me to vanquish. At the time I thought it to be an Ursa Major. A pony name Twilight Sparkle ended up taking control of the situation and bringing the baby back to its mother in the Everfree Forest. I left right after and never returned until this moment. I honestly have no idea how they would see me or even if they would remember me. How I hope they have forgotten me." She sighed in worry.

"If it would make you feel better I could always make a small cloud home and enchant you so you can walk on clouds for a few days. No fus, no mus." He smirked.

"You would do that for me?" She squeaked blushing a bit.

"Sure, what you did doesn't seem so bad. At the time I'm sure they were mad, but that doesn't mean they would hold a grudge forever. I can always let you stay with me if you want. I'm sure Applejack wouldn't mind another pony taking a spot in one of her guest rooms."

"Wait, did you say Applejack? I don't think that would work either." She sighed.

"I'm guessing you did something to piss her off to?" He chuckled.

"Indeed, as well as a pony they call Rarity, and Rainbow Dash as well." She smiled nervously.

"Dang, who didn't you piss off?" He laughed only to get silence in return. "Sorry, just meant it as a joke. But don't worry. I'm sure Twilight has forgiven and forgot about the whole thing. We'll try her first." He smiled.

"Absolutely not!" Twilight snapped, surprising Midnight.

"What, why not? Its been what? Three years since you guys had bad blood? Seriously hun, you need to get over things like this." He sighed looking at her in annoyance.

"Wait...... Hun? Are you two in a relationship?" Trixie asked in shock.

"Yes, and I would like for you to leave my coltfriend alone. Better yet, leave town for good this time." She snapped back.

"TWILIGHT SPARKLE!" Midnight shouted in complete shock. "This young mare may have done something in the past but that's all it is now. In.... The....... Past. You should think twice about what you say. She may have done these things before, but it was before I arrived in this world. So I would like for you to be at least a little bit respectful regardless of her past. She agreed to come back here when I found her on the path to town earlier. She is without a home, so just one night here wouldn't hurt." He said giving a loud snort.

"No, I don't care what you say it isn't going to change my mind." She snapped back again.

Midnight gave a defeated sigh as he turned to leave. "Where do you think your going?" She yelled as her horn lit up grabbing onto Midnight. His own horn lighting up and breaking the magic holding him causing Twilight to wince from the sudden break.

"I'm going to build a cloud home now in the middle of the night and enchant Trixie so she can sleep there because somepony is making an ass out of herself by not letting a former rival spend the night in her home because she is to bent out of shape over something that happened three years ago." He snorted as his voice was turning slowly into a yell.

"Really? So your going to woo her like all the other mares into rutting you to is that it?" She stopped as she noticed Midnight's mane and tail start to burn a deep crimson red, his eyes narrowing as he lowered his head directly in front of her. His voice taking on a deathly tone as he began to speak ever so slowly to her.

"Just because Trixie is a mare does not mean that I am going out of my way to woo her into rutting with me. I may like a good rut, but that does NOT mean that I will rut with anypony that comes into my sights. Now I want you to think about what you just said, I will be back tomorrow sometime to continue this discussion. But as of now we are on a break from each other. I am going to leave now and take Trixie with me so that we can both get some sleep, If you need anything tonight you can send a letter to the princess for all I care." He growled as he picked up Trixie and took off into the sky.

Twilight stood there in shock for a moment before tears began to well up in her eyes. She continued to sit in shock as she spoke out to nopony in particular.

"D-did I just get dumped?" she squeaked out before slowly trudging back into the library.

"Midnight, I'm sorry for all of the trouble, please, go back to her and leave me be, I'm sure I can find a place to stay for the night." She sighed.

"No, it's already to late. Twilight just needs to cool her jets and suck it up. What you did in the past is already in the past. You came back to Ponyville so that at least means you are willing to ask for forgiveness from then right?" He smiled back askingly.

"Actually, had I known that this road lead back to Ponyville, I would have taken a different path to another city or town." She sighed. "My pride will not let me ask for forgiveness."

"Well then that is something you need to work on." He smirked as his horn lit up and he began to move clouds around into a decent sized home. After a good twenty minutes the home had been finished and Trixie enchanted so that she could walk on clouds. Although hesitant at first she finally moved from Midnights back onto the clouds and began to walk around.

"This is rather nice. I have never been on a cloud before this moment." She smiled as she jumped slightly from the springiness of the cloud.

"Alrighty, I'll see you in the morning." Midnight said with a smile as he jumped into a bed on the far side of the room, digging into the cloud and pulling it like a makeshift cover over him.

Trixie stood there for a moment looking at the bed before climbing onto it an slowly pressing herself into the cloud pulling it over her as well. "I must admit, this is the most comfortable bed......I've ever.........Zzzzzzzzzzz." She never finished as the days wear on her body finally brought her to sleep. Midnight gave a smile listening to the soft snore that escaped her as she slept.

"Hey! Wake up!" Trixie spoke just above her normal tone as she pressed a hoof to Midnights face.

"*groan* What is it?" He spoke as he cracked open an eye looking at Trixie.

"Twilight is down below yelling for you. She isn't to happy from what I can tell." She sighed.

"Twi is always grumpy in the mornings. Until she gets some coffee in her then all is well." He chuckled as he gave a stretch, pulling himself from his bed. A yawn escaped him as he knelt down enough for Trixie to jump onto his back, then jumping from the cloud home making it vaporize into the air as he glided to the ground below. Once he landed Trixie jumped from his back and trotted off into town, leaving him to speak with Twilight.

Midnight trotted over to Twilight who had her head pointed to the ground. He took a seat across from her waiting for her to start.

"I'm......... sorry. I shouldn't have acted the way I did Night. It has been three years since I saw her but she did leave on bad terms and never even apologized. I was just so upset when I saw her I didn't even consider forgiving her. But when you left and took her side, I............ I just fell apart." She said as she raised her matted tear stained face to Midnight surprising him.
"I thought I had lost you when you said we were on a break. Please don't leave me. Your the first........." She went silent as Midnight pressed his lips to hers, she moving forward and wrapping her hooves around his withers as tears continued down her face. After a few moments they separated pressing their foreheads together.

"I'm sorry for putting you on the spot like that Twi, but you know how I am. Everyone deserves a second chance to redeem themselves. When you wouldn't allow her to apologize, I just left. I'm glad you came around." He smiled looking into her teary eyes. "Come on, lets go find Trixie so we can ask her to apologize to the town."
