Divide and Fall
Chapter 2: A Seemingly Normal Day (Experimental 2nd Person chapter)
Previous Chapter Next ChapterThis is my first ever time writing in the second person where you are in the story. Tell me what you think about it, any questions, or suggestions on how to improve my second person writing. This is an alternate chapter one set in the human world, and giving back story for chapter 2 to the third person perspective of the first chapter.
This is an optional chapter, you don't have to read it to get the next chapter; I just felt that adding more backstory, and adding you into the story, might be a bit funner to do. But enjoy anyways guys, thanks for reading.
It was early, so early that the sun was yet to rise for another 5-6 hours. Your insomnia has kept you on a constant bender of unrest for that past three days; and it showing in your work and college life. Your grades were slipping, you were falling asleep while the professor was talking, and you were tired and lazily slouching around at work. Your boss has threatened to fire you for weeks now; but she never has, you’re the only one in the whole damn store that knows what they’re doing. But then again, when you work at a place like Wal-Mart; it’s not a huge surprise when most of the idiots there don’t know just what the hell they’re doing.
You sigh and get up, staring at the T.V. with the last recording still showing up; it was at the end asking ‘Would you like to delete this episode?’ The last thing you watched was My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic; and you fell asleep halfway through it, but were only asleep for about an hour before your insomnia kicked you back awake. The My Little Pony universe had become a second reality to you, you felt that if you could just escape to that world; all would be right again, but you knew that it was a fictional world created for little girls. This realization is what started the conflicting thoughts that now course through your mind; and you have since taken up writing dark poetry, though the poems needed a lot of work, you were happy with how they stood.
Since you didn’t have class for another seven whole hours; you decided to start watching all the episodes of My Little Pony you have recorded, though the new season only started about a month or two ago, you have all of the ones up to ‘Luna Eclipsed.’ The episodes put a smile back onto your face, My Little Pony was the only thing that got you through your week; though with the new episode every other week thing really started to piss you off, only making you despise the world even more than you already did. You had every episode recorded, and have been happily watching the show ever since your friend had suggested it to you a while back; though you no longer have connections with your friend, you still remember him from the time you ridiculed him for watching the show.
Before long you were back on your computer brainstorming ideas for fan-fictions set in the My Little Pony universe, though with your major amounts of sleep deprivation, you found it extremely hard to gather your thoughts. With anger you took your keyboard and threw it off of the desk, launching it into the wall on the opposite side of the room. You have lived alone since your girlfriend left you after you had told her you were a brony; saying she can’t have a child for a boyfriend, which absolutely shattered your heart and drove you into the depression you’re in right now. That is what made you turn back to My Little Pony, it also drove you to go and get therapy; seeing that you used the My Little Pony universe to escape your Earthly troubles in a way.
But you didn’t think that the therapy would give in to anything really deep, just a doctor telling you, ‘you have a problem’ so the greedy bastard can drain you of your life savings before you could even bat a single eyebrow. But that’s how life works; you’ve learned to accept all of the woes that have been thrust upon your life, and all of the people around you. You finished watching about eight episodes before you noticed the time again; you had class in about an hour, so you got up from your chair and moved into the bathroom to take one of your long showers, just to sit in the water and wallow in your enveloping self-pity. For some reason, you can only think in the shower; the world around you just melted when you hit the warm water, but it was only temporary, thought it felt good to you nonetheless.
You start getting dressed noticing the time once again; you now only had about thirty minutes to get up to the school. You swear lightly to yourself, knowing it takes at least forty-fifty minutes with the constant stream of traffic in the streets; but that’s New York for you, what more can you really expect. You run out the door to see your friend waiting outside for you with her sunglasses hanging lowly, uncovering the top parts of her eyes showed; you scoffed and jumped in the passenger’s seat of her car and she drifted off into the streets.
You look at the woman next to you, someone you’ve known your whole life; and not even she knows that you’re a brony, because ever since your girlfriend left you for saying you were a brony, you felt it was much better to keep your love for the show to the anonymous sites of the internet. You look at her and sigh, “So, what made you pick me up today? I’ve been walking to the college for a year now, what’s with this sudden change of heart that made you decide to pick me up?” you asked as she slowly grazed her head over to you.
She chuckled, “I just heard something about you is all, nothing too huge you know; I just found it a rather intriguing fact about you.” She cockily smiled and stopped at the stoplight, as you turned to her with a baffled look on your face.
“You… heard something… about me?” you asked as she smiled and chuckled lightly once again. “Well, just what the hell did you hear about me!? What fucking rumors are these assholes spreading now!?” you yelled defensively, the people at the college constantly starting rumors about you; the last one being that you kill cats and use the hides to coat your walls.
“Oh it’s nothing really,” she said giggling to herself, “You know me, always having to be cryptic and such, so I’m going to give you a hint on what I know.” She said starting to drive once more as the light finally turned green. She cleared her throat, “Ahem! ‘You’re a genius!’, ‘Haha, no I’m not! I’m a chicken, ba-gawk!’” she said giggling as you processed what she’d just said. “You’re smart, I’m sure you can figure it out relatively quickly.” She said as she stopped at the coffee shop.
You finally realize what she’d just said; a light blush was now overtaking your face as she looked at you and rolled her eyes. “Marcelene! How the—when the—HOW THE FUCK DID YOU FIGURE OUT I WATCHED THAT?!” you yelled at her defensively, truly wondering how she’d figured out so inconspicuously that you were in fact a brony.
She scoffed slightly, “I can just tell; I myself watch the show dude, I’m not an idiot. Seriously, why haven’t you told anyone that you watch the show? You seriously can’t stay a closet brony forever! You have to tell someone!” she said as you sighed and ducked your head, with her giving you a certain lowered smile. “Hey, James, what’s wrong buddy?” she said putting her arm around you.
You let out a few tears, wiping them off as manly tears, you tell her the story of your girlfriend leaving you a couple weeks ago. “You know that girl I was dating? That one, Lauren?” you said as she lounged back slightly.
“Well yeah, you guys were always around each other; though I haven’t seen her in maybe a couple of weeks. You sound grim about this topic, what exactly happened with her; did you two have a fight or something?” she asked, as you sighed once more tears escaping from your eyes.
“It’s not exactly that, just more so; she dumped me because I was comfortable with telling her that I was a brony. She didn’t take it too well, she said she needed a man, not a boy that sits around watching cartoons meant for little girls. It broke my heart, but I’ll get over it eventually; I’m going to keep this ‘brony’ thing to myself from now on though. It’s better than telling them and they go and run off on me you know.” You wipe your eyes slowly as she pats you on the head.
“I’ve known you for about twenty-three years now; I would never dream of abandoning a dear friend like yourself. No matter what anyone tells you, you will always be accepted by somebody in this world. And just because she was so ignorant as to not see that it’s not evil to watch the show; I mean there are people who are twice our ages and guys that watch and thoroughly enjoy the show. Just because it was aimed at little girls, the fact that it attracted a much more diverse fanbase tells them a couple of things: one, Lauren Faust really needs to make way more cartoons, two, men aren’t as conceited as most of them let up to be, and three, it shows how a simple idea, done right, can make the hugest difference in how people of the world react to it.” She said with a smile, her smile and words lightening your spirits once again.
You sigh again, “Thanks for the speech Mar’ I’m just feeling kinda down since she dissed me like that; I mean she wasn’t the nicest person, but that took her to an all new low.” You looked up and saw her getting out of the car and walking up to the shop, which now had a closed sign on it, and she came back a few seconds later.
“Well, this place suffered the wrath of the economy; I swear if the government doesn’t pick this shit up soon, the whole country is going to go to hell. I mean, more so than it already has; that is a stroke of stupidity, thank you U.S. government , for your wonderful way of running this country… into the ground…” Marcelene said, she wasn’t anti-government, she just didn’t like how most of the people in the government right now were complete idiots.
You chuckle slightly, as she drives off to the school; when both of you get out, you wave good-bye to each other, both of you now knowing something about the other that neither of you had ever expected. You sat through school, blindly taking notes from the professor; but you were actually in your own reality, your alias in Equestria. The day went by so slow, all of the professors kicking you out of their class for not paying attention to their lectures and lessons; though discouraged, this let you venture further into your alternate reality in Equestria. Dreaming that you were with the Mane 6, solving friendship crises and spreading the power of the magic of friendship; though you are only human, your mind truly thinks, that of somepony from Equestria.
Marcelene snapped you from your dreams, tapping you lightly on the shoulder and greeting you with miniature plushes of the Mane 6, and Celestia and Luna. You smile and take them, taking it as a gesture that she accepts your life choice; you take the miniatures and hug them softly to your chest, wishing that you could’ve been one of these precious little things. “Thank you Mar’, most guys and chicks would’ve ridiculed me to death about now; I’m not sure why they would, but they would. I don’t know why I didn’t think of you as my best friend; you’re the only person now that really understands my choices now. I don’t know why I like the show, I just do; why can’t anyone just accept that it’s my choice to make? This is my life, and I’ll do whatever the hell I want to with it; and if they find that unsatisfactory to their egos, they can kindly fuck off.” You say both of you chuckling.
“You need a ride James? I’m sure I can make a quick stop by your house, if you want me to that is. I’m not going to force you to get in the car with me; frankly, that’s just creepy anyways.” She said chuckling lowly.
You didn’t want to impose, so you declined her offer and decided to walk home, and she smiled and nodded and got in her car and drove off in a burst of dust from under her tires. You cough slightly, the dirt and dust entering your lungs; your body trying to expel the foreign substances from your chest. You clear your throat and start walking the direction of your house; knowing that your house is about a mile or two away. You sigh, it’s a nice day outside, but you used to walk home with your girlfriend, and it was just really painful to recollect the memories of a happier and simpler time. Though with the small miniatures of the ponies you are holding made you smile on the inside and the outside.
You decide to stop out in the field you used to roam in when you were still in highschool; though the field had been reduced to a site where every ignorant person in the state of New York dumped their trash now. The beauty covered up by the trash that was thrown and strewn upon the field; an even coat of garbage layering on the now dying brown grass. You sat down in the middle of the field, the place you used to sit with Marcelene before you started going to a different school and lost contact with her; thought you are happy you have found that she still respects you as if you didn’t watch the show, like you were just a normal young adult. Though none of that mattered at this moment, all you wanted to do was forget the day and go home; after you let all of your anger out by visiting a place of fond memories from your past. All the worries of the world around you melted as you basked in the great memories of a time that everything was just so much simpler; you didn’t have to worry about money, you didn’t have to worry about ridicule, and you didn’t have to worry about the world around you.
But a sudden flash of light erupted from the sky spontaneously, as you arose to your feet to stare into the sky in awe; the colors erupting in a perfect ripple. The colors looked like a rainbow, the eruption looking like… No, it just couldn’t be, it was impossible! You looked at the sky closer, it was; a sonic rainboom. It was all impossible, Earth could not make a sonic rainboom! There’s no force in the world that could even go fast enough to break the sound barrier; so certainly nothing could even create a sonic rainboom! You look up to see figures emerging from the sky, upon closer inspection you see they are heading right towards you! You try to run, but are soon pelted with seven large heavy bodies; knocking you to the ground and just moments later, making you lose consciousness completely.
