Chapter Eight:

Alone and Relentless

She woke up to find that she was snuggling under a blanket. She got up to see where Axe was and saw him leaning against a rock without a blanket but was  trying to use his ear piece to communicate to a pony base or a nearby military installation for help.

She walked towards him slowly and then sat next to him and said “What are you doing with it?”

“Calling for help”

“You're not going to get any reception up here, were very far from civilization let alone the convoy must be at least one hundred miles away”

Axe kept on talking to the ear piece but no voices were being called back and then he got so frustrated that he threw the ear piece off the hill.

“Whoa settle down Axe, we are going to be fine.”

“HOW AM I supposed to be fine if we are in the middle of nowhere where we could easily be killed by our enemies!”

“At Ease, Thats An Order Soldier!”

Axe stopped and he looked at Spark with a worried expression on his face.

“We will be fine. Just a few days we have to survive until our drop ships arrive wondering why Bravo went offline and is not responding. We just have to hold out until they arrive around where we are.”

“But Sergeant, what if they don't?”

“Then it's our loss. We might probably die out here from the unexpected blizzards. We will be lucky if we make it out alive walking out of the woods and into a pony town or village.”

“Sergeant, do you know where we are?”

There was a moment of silence between them until a few seconds later, Spark answered “I don't know Axe. I don't know.”

“”Serg...”

You can stop calling me that now just call me Spark for now on.”

“Okay Spark...what are we going to do now?”

“I guess we should keep moving.”

“Um...Spark?”

“Yes Axe?”

“You won't leave me behind again will you? Not trying to get on your bad side I just want to know if I'll be alone in this again.”

There was another moment of silence between the two ponies.

“I regretted leaving you to fend for yourself and I don't want to let that happen again. Back there I was a little scared, I didn't know what was really happening. I'm not going to let you fight alone again. Especially since you are  kind of new to this.”

“Thank for telling me Spark. I appreciate it.”

“Well lets go this way and I promise I won't walk to fast for you.”

Axe had a grin on his face and followed Spark at a slow speed.

They made their way down the snowy hill and into the snowed in forest. Both of them didn't talk for about an hour just listening to the peaceful birds chirping, the sun glistening on their coats, and the animals communicating with each other.

Spark turned around to look at Axe and she said “Do you need to take a break?”

“Umm...sure. Would be nice to get off my leg for awhile.”

Axe sat down and laid his back against a nearby tree. Spark laid down in front of him and started playing with the snow.

Spark wasn't paying attention to him but when Axe started rubbing his injured leg, she looked up and said “How is it?”

“How is what?”

“Your leg Axe.”

“It feels like it is about to fall off my body. It hurts so bad. Have you ever got shot before?”

“No I was always careful with myself and I try to limit my mistakes to nothing so that I don't get hurt.”

“You're a lucky son of a bitch!”

“I'd guess but I have faith in you. I think you can make it out of this war further then the rest of the others.”

“Thanks.”

“Your welcome. It's so peaceful out here it's as if it is a paradise.”

“You like the woods?”

“I don't like it...I LOVE it!”

“I thought I was the only one that loved the woods. My whole family except me loves the city for some reason. I mean who could love the city?”

“Right? Doesn't make sense what some ponies like.” Axe then chuckled a little and then said “The city!”

“Are you comfortable enough to walk now?”

“Yeah I think so for just another ten or twenty miles.”

Axe and Spark started walking through the forest unaware of where they were going.
