Apple Bloom and Winona kept walking on the yellow brick road as they went past the cornfield. "Follow the yellow brick road?" Apple Bloom muttered. "Follow the yellow-?" She stopped muttering when she and Winona stopped at the center of the crossroads. "Now which way do we go?" Apple Bloom asked. "That way is very nice way." A voice said pointing to the right. Apple Bloom yelped in shock, and said "Who said that?" Winona started barking at a pony scarecrow who looks like a female version of Bubble Berry, and Apple Bloom said "Don't be silly, Winona. Scarecrows-." "It's pleasant down that way, too." The pony scarecrow said pointing to the left. "Don't talk." Apple Bloom said finishing her sentence in shock. She looked at Winona, and said "That's funny. Wasn't she pointing the other way?" The pony scarecrow then pointed both directions, and said "Go both ways!" Apple Bloom stared at her in shock, and said "Why, you did say something, didn't ya'll?" The pony scarecrow shook her head, and then nodded. Apple Bloom stared in confusion as she said "Are you doing that on purpose, or can't you make up your mind?" "That's the trouble." The pony scarecrow said showing her straw head underneath her mane. "I can't make up my mind. I haven't got a brain. Only straw."

"How can ya'll talk if you haven't got a brain?" Apple Bloom asked. "I don't know." The pony scarecrow said. "But some ponies without brains do an awful lot of talking, don't they?" Apple Bloom nodded, and said "Yes, Ah guess you're right." She then stepped over the fence, and into the cornfield as she walked to the pony scarecrow, and said "Well, we haven't really met properly, have we?" "Why, no." The pony scarecrow said. Apple Bloom curtsied, and said "How do you do?" The pony scarecrow nodded, and said "How do you do?" "Very well, thank you." Apple Bloom said. "Ah'm Apple Bloom." "I'm Pinkie Pie." The pony scarecrow said. "Oh, I'm not feeling at all well. You see, it's very tedious being stuck up here all day with a pole up your back." "Oh, dear." Apple Bloom said. "That must be terribly uncomfortable. Can't you get down?" "Down?" Pinkie Pie asked. "No, you see, I'm...Well, I'm-." When Pinkie Pie couldn't bring herself to say it, Apple Bloom said "Oh, well, here, let me help you." As the young filly began to help the pony scarecrow down, Pinkie Pie said "Oh, that's very kind of you. Very kind." Apple Bloom examined the back of the pony scarecrow as she tried to unfasten her, and said "Well, oh dear, Ah don't quite see-."

Pinkie Pie interuppted Apple Bloom, and said "Of course, I'm not bright about doing things, but if you'll just-." Apple Bloom then spotted a nail, and started to turn it as she said "Oh, yes." After she got the nail, Pinkie Pie fell to the floor as she said "Whoops! There goes some of me again!" She giggled, and Apple Bloom said "Oh, does it hurt you?" "Oh no." Pinkie Pie said. "I just keep picking it up and putting it back in again." "Ohhh." Apple Bloom said. As Pinkie Pie climbed over the fence, She said "My, it's good to be free!" Apple Bloom screamed as Pinkie Pie fell to the floor. Apple Bloom rushed to the pony scarecrow who said "Did I scare you?" Apple Bloom shook her head, and said "No, no. Ah-Ah just thought ya'll hurt yourself." "But I didn't scare you?" Pinkie Pie asked. "No. Of course not." Apple Bloom said. "I didn't think so." Pinkie Pie said. Suddenly, a crow flew in, and landed on Pinkie Pie's shoulder. It took some straw out of her mane, and flew away as she said "Boo! Scat! Boo! You see, I can't even scare a crow! They come from miles around just to eat in my field, and laugh in my face! Oh, I'm a failure, because I haven't got a brain."

"Well, what would you do with a brain if you had one?" Apple Bloom asked. "Do?" Pinkie Pie asked. "Why, if I had a brain, I could while away the hours, conferring with the flowers, and consulting with the rain. Why, I'd be scratching my head while my thoughts would be busy hatching if I only had a brain." Apple Bloom smiled, and said "Wonderful! Why, if our Scarecrow back in Equestria could do that, the crows would be scared to pieces!" "They would?" Pinkie Pie asked. Apple Bloom nodded, and Pinkie Pie said "What's Equestria?" "That's where I live." Apple Bloom said. "And I want to get back there so badly, I'm going all the way to Emerald Canterlot to get The Unicorn of Discorded Equestria to help me." "You're going to see a unicorn?" Pinkie Pie asked. Apple Bloom nodded, and Pinkie Pie said "Do you think if I went with you this unicorn would give me some brains?" "Ah couldn't say." Apple Bloom said. "But even if she didn't, you'd be no worse off than you are now." "Yes. That's true." Pinkie Pie said. "But maybe you'd better not." Apple Bloom said. "Ah've got a changeling queen mad at me, and ya'll might get into trouble." Pinkie Pie scoffed, and said "Changeling queen? I'm not afraid of a changeling queen! I'm not afraid of anything! Except a lighted match." "Ah don't blame you for that." Apple Bloom said. "But, I'd face a whole box of them for the chance of getting some brains." Pinkie Pie said. "Look, I won't be any trouble, because I don't eat a thing, and I won't try to manage things, because I can't think. Won't you take me with you?" Apple Bloom smiled, and said "Why, of course Ah will!" Pinkie Pie smiled and stood up as she said Hooray! "We're off to see the unicorn!" She almost fell, but Apple Bloom caught her, and said "Oh, well, you're not starting out very well. Pinkie Pie recovered, and said "Oh, I'll try! Really, I will." "To The Unicorn of Discorded Equestria?" Apple Bloom asked. Pinkie Pie nodded, and said "To The Unicorn of Discorded Equestria!" With that, Apple Bloom, Pinkie Pie, and Winona continued on the path to see The Unicorn of Discorded Equestria.
