"They have taken out the guards in the local area!" A guard was screaming at the nobles in-charge of the city. The large room of old farts was gathered to talk about the bit budget, but this random guard would burst into their meeting? How dare he! "Get out I say! I'll have you run out of the city!" Said a rather old mustached fellow.

The guard groaned. "If you would listen you would have heard the city is being attacked!" The head stallion noble snorted. "You said it was like what, four of them?" The guard took a deep breath before attempting to continue to talk. "They have some sort of magic, if they grab a pony it turns to whatever they are."

The nobles as one screeched "Zombies!" The entire room erupted in paper flying this way and that while over 30 old men ran in circles screaming like little girls. The guard simply gave up. "I'm going to take those darn things up on their offer to assimilate." He said while walking out shaking his head.

The drones had spread down the city, unicorn drones lost the ability to use magic, it had seemed the units could not augment nor adapt to use it.

"Resistance is futile." A drone halfheartedly claimed as it reached its hoof toward a Pegasus flying above. "Ha! You can't reach me you stupid...Metal. Yeah!" The Pegasus seemed happy with its insult and hovered many feet above the reach of the drones, who had a augmented left forehoof with a grabber similar to a human hand.

It reached out with it, a pulsing light emanated from the appendage. A gravity well, the Pegasus felt the pull almost immediately but had no time to react before being forced into a bear hug on the ground. His struggles and cries for help did nothing, he was a drone, caught. The augmentation and technology took him like all the other drones now marching down the street and into homes. It was spreading far too fast for any of the guard to figure a way to stop them.

The unicorn guards had succeeded in destroying 29 drones with all sorts of spells before the drones adapted to every single one. The guard and city residence were hard pressed to find new ways to take down these metallic monsters. "Stop!" Proclaimed a mare up the street, she had a mint coat, brilliant cyan mane and tail with a white streak, yellowed eyes, and a cutie mark of a lyre. "Where you creatures came from if you continue and our rulers return you'll have hell to pay!" She said as her horn began to glow impressively bright.

The drones all looked her way a moment due to the power surge.

>Possible Queen
>Assimilate

They as one marched toward her, the ones closest to her outstretching their augmented forelegs. However the mares horn increased in brightness before a magical shield appeared all along the street. Separating her and the drones.

>Obstruction composed of solid light detected
>Activating energy plates

The drones up at the shield then pressed their foreheads to it, a glow emanated from modules on the neck. The shield appeared to be simply absorbed in seconds into the drones. Most of them pumping a small cylinder out of the module, glowing with a faint energy.

"Crap." Was all she could mutter before she had to fire bolts of magic at them in various forms. She obviously knew some spells the guard did not have in their curriculum. "Stay back!" She yelled as drones fell to her spells, however short lived as they adapted to most of them rather quickly. She went to gallop away, guards showing up behind her, charging down the street with swords and spears in hoof and mouth. "To think I was just hired to entertain the prissy wissy boys up in the castle! They send me to fight!? Ugh!" She blared out as she ran off toward the castle.

The brawl in the street was short lived, mostly ending with the superior body strength of the Borg drones augmentations taking down any ponies that dared come in hoof range. However a pocket of the guards, skilled as seen by the silver rather than gold armor their counterparts wore were still in the fray. dodging this way and that while slashing through some of the incomplete drones.

"Hold out as long as you can, the messenger we sent to the princesses will inform them of the threat by sundown!" A large pony holding a battleaxe in his mouth roared a war cry before charging down the street, swinging into a stallion drone who had just then been converting a citizen on the ground. The ponies continued to fight for more than a minute before being overwhelmed by sheer number and strength.

>Drone #172 Active

The fighting was now widespread throughout the cities outer tiers. The drones were moving in packs of four to eight moving to infest the other ponies of the city. The guard was failing and the princesses were nowhere in sight. With the nobles barricaded in the castle with the most skilled of the guard it was a failing battle in the city. Ponies screamed as they fled from the other gates, moving to the surrounding landscape and cities to escape the threat that Canterlot had on it's shoulders.

The infectious drones roamed free for another two hours before the pegasus holding the letter of urgent importance reached the princesses in Zebraca, only then did the sun lower and a bright red moon appeared in the sky. The stars were brighter than usual, the royal sisters were furious and anyone with knowledge of them cowered that night. Griffin and Changeling alike hid, worried it was them that had caused the night sky to turn blood red.

Wrath was coming.

Author's Notes:

Any and all spell check and grammar mistakes are welcome in the comments. I am unable to see them myself as my brain has this habit of just skimming something I wrote rather than looking with a critical eye.

If you've come two chapters in the story then don't stop there. Read my other...More serious story, although it's in a bad state from me having no one to spell check or edit for me. If your even a bigger friendo then follow me! What if I finish this thing and you stop reading my stuff? What if my next story will be just as interesting?

Or you could just read and write me off as a groveling idiot.
