Royal Inquires

“You know you aren’t allowed to meddle in the affairs of other universes Luna.”

“But sister he was robbed in a most vulgar fashion that we simply couldn’t allow, besides it isn’t as if you’ve never meddled, like with a certain green clad super soldier!”

“That’s different! All I did was send his ship on a course to be intercepted by the planet!”

“And what about the doctor?”

“Oh shut up Luna, you enjoy his witty company just as much as I do, besides we needed someone like him around. The point being that at the most I’ve helped three people, you’ve helped around eight maybe even more!” Suddenly a guard stepped into throne room and cleared his throat until he got their attention.

“My ladies they are almost here.”

“Thank you for the warning.” Celestia told him with a sigh, this day was going to be longer then she thought.

The first five minutes of the trip were filled with the awkward silence of being surrounded by strangers, then Shepard started to whistle a familiar tune and the solemn atmosphere broke. Ash, Garrus, and Liara burst into laughter. The ponies around them looked on in confused silence until Twilight asked.

“What the feather is so funny?” Garrus looked at her still laughing before he finally said.

“Elevators, that’s the same tune that they used to played over the elevators!” this got several more odd looks.

“And what about elevator music is funny?”

“It would take way to long for us to explain, let’s just say that they weren’t the fastest elevators.” It grew quiet for a few moments before Liara asked AJ

“What did you mean when you said that you were the Element of Honesty Apple Jack?”

“Well that means that I wield the Element of Honesty of course.”

“And that means what exactly?”

“Yall don’t know about the Elements of Harmony?” AJ replied confused.

“AJ darling they came from somewhere completely different, how would they have?” asked the white unicorn.

“Well shucks Rarity I thought everypony knew about the Elements of Harmony.” Twilight sighed and launched into a quick lecture on the history of Equestria and of the Elements. When she was done the travelers lapsed into silence until the chariot began to angle towards a large city located on a cliff

“Nice view.” Commented Garrus idly as the city of Canterlot spread out beneath them.

“This here is our capitol city Canterlot so it should be.” AJ told him proudly

“Not a bad place for a siege either, there aren’t many places for an enemy to approach in force and you can see the surrounding land for miles. The best way to do it I think would be to starve it out, there don’t seem to be any farms and considering the equine nature of the ponies I doubt that they could eat fish.”

“All yall think about is war aint it?”

“Sorry old habit, I've spent my whole life fighting one war or another.” Garrus replied with a note of tiredness in his voice

“Your entire life; that must have been awesome!” commented Dash who was flying next to the chariot.

“Oh there have been high notes, like when we stormed the Collector Base or tacking down and finishing off Cerberus, but most of the time you’re mostly just worried about making it out alive. Fortunately for me I had Shepard there to watch my back, without him I would have died a long time ago.”

“But, that would mean that you’ve, k, kil, killed ponies!” Fluttershy yelped in fright and backed into Twilight away from the scarred pony.

“We only kill when we have to Fluttershy, life is sacred but sometimes the only way to get anything done is to kill and when it’s needed we do it with heavy hearts because no one else can or will.” Shepard said softly.

“That’s a stupid answer! Nopony should ever have to die if it were me…” she was cut off by Liara.

“If you don’t believe us ask one of these guards, killing is a part of their job description.” One of the guards nodded silently refusing to look Fluttershy in the face.

“But aren’t there laws against killing?” Fluttershy asked in confusion but before anypony could reply the chariot went in for a landing in front of the castle.

“Well you don’t see those every day.” Said Ash not quite in awe but certainly impressed by the scale of the castle. They were shown down a long passage way to a large throne room where they found two ponies with both wings and horns waiting for them sitting atop tall thrones, although they looked more like actual horses to Shepard.

“Princesses Luna and Celestia I presume?” Shepard asked the two when he drew into speaking range drawing shocked gasps and startled looks from several members of their party.

“Normally it would be proper court etiquette to bow before princesses but I suppose you can’t be expected to know anything about that could you?” said the White princess sardonically, a smile settled onto both Ash and Garrus’s faces, they knew what was coming.

“Miss I’ve been sent to an entirely new land in an completely new body, and I’ve only been here for one day, if you expected courtly manners from me then you’re more crazy then the Illusive Man was.” The Blue Princess turned to her sister who looked like she was about to roast Shepard and shook her head.

“Commander it is an honor, we are Princess Luna and we are pleased to have saved you, forgive our sister she was displeased by our decision to save your life and the lives of your crew.”

“For which I heartily thank you Princess, I would offer you my services in whatever you require.” Shepard told the Luna sincerely.

“Anything?” Luna asked a seductive tone entering her voice. Ash snorted in anger and slammed her hoof into the floor causing a loud bang.

“Over my dead body!” Ash said softly a hint of anger coloring her voice.

“ENOUGH!” shouted Celestia causing the temperature in the room to increase by ten degrees. “Luna you’re lucky I haven’t already grounded you, and you black pony if you ever threaten my sister again I will char the flesh from your body before I send you flying into the sun! Am I understood?” she asked with great finality.

“I would advise you to withdraw your threat princess; you don’t want to know what happens to the people who threaten Shepard’s friends.” Garrus told her matter-of-factly causing Celestia to turn in his direction and blast a small flare of heat at him. Garrus just laughed as the heat washed over him. “Miss I’ve felt hotter flames while taking a shower.” By this time the court had become hushed and many of the ponies were backing away from the new arrivals.

“Who are you to talk to me this way?” Celestia inquired the room temperature growing even hotter.

“Apparently someone with greater self control, your Majesty.” Liara said cuttingly before Garrus could answer. Twilight flinched, she had only seen Celestia this angry only once before and that had been around Discord. But instead of the angry outburst she had been expecting Twilight heard only laughter, it was coming from Luna.

“Sister what is wrong with you?” Luna asked when she was done laughing “You’re letting yourself get worked up over nothing except a minor breach of protocol from ponies who know no better, which is our department anyways.” Celestia’s anger cooled from a boil to a slight simmer and a confused look came over her face.

“You’re, You're right sister, Shepard we’ll call you back in a few hours, until then I trust that Twilight and her friends are more than capable of showing you the sights of Canterlot.” As they walked out of the throne room Garrus snickered

“Commander no one else could possibly annoy authority figures as much as you do, it’s one of the reasons that I’ve followed you to the end of the universe and back.”

“Thanks Garrus I’ll make sure I put that into my résumé next time I’m looking for a job.” Shepard replied, Twilight and her friends looked worried, they knew something was wrong with Celestia, they just didn’t know what it was.

***

Back in their common room Celestia and Luna were locked in deep conversation.

“I don’t know what happened to me, I was just so full of anger it was like there was somepony else in my head telling me what to do!” Celestia told her sister worriedly.

“Discord?” her sister asked

“No, not him I would have recognized it if it were him again.”

“Who then sister, it doesn’t make sense the only other one I can think of with enough sway to do that would be the Nightmare and I don’t feel her presence on you anywhere?”

“I don’t know Luna I really don’t but this means trouble mark my words!”

And the plot thickens
