The Elements of Freedom: The Shadow King's Fall
Chapter 10: Battle of the Gala Part 2
Previous Chapter Next ChapterThe wind blew by her pale purple mane back and dropped lose pieces of her dress to the city below. This really got on her nerves; she'd just bought this dress too! She was about to go get her boyfriend and drag him downstairs when the changelings attacked. She was done with these things. Just seeing Chrysalis was enough to make her want to vomit it a bad way, now there were dozens of changelings flying around. She was amazed that she hadn't run into any on this fight.
Hestaria winged over and dove over the edge of Canterlot and flew head long into a hollowed out cavity in the mountain that you could fit ships into. And that wasn't an excaudate either. Two massive airships hovered in the hanger surrounded by ponies fighting off changelings. She spotted White Knight and Commander Firebrand fighting off changelings at the door to the bunker. For absolutely no reason it was clearly labeled but the writer might just be lazy and not give a fuck about being specific about what it looks like so that it's up to interpretation. But otherwise it was clearly marked bunker.
Hestaria landed an aerial round roundhouse kick to one of the changelings hovering over one of the catwalks to the airship closest to the bunker. The group on and near the catwalk instantly noticed her and charged. Hestaria dove under the hull of the airship and came back up over the deck with around a dozen changelings on her tail. Hestaria bolted across the deck and hooked her left foreleg around a small cannon on the hand rail. Using her momentum, she spun the barrel of the cannon around to face the changelings.
"Smile!" Hestaria shouted as she pulled the trigger on the flintlock mechanism.
The preloaded powder went off with a powerful bang and flash and the large ball bearings in front of it was shoved out of the barrel at incredible speed.
The steel balls spread out over a short distance and ripped through the changelings like they were paper. The force of the shot was strong enough to knock all of them to the other side of the deck and over the railing. Hestaria grinned and looked back to the bunker to see White Knight back to back with Commander Firebrand fighting off the group that didn't follow her.
Knight swung his lance in smooth, powerful arcs. Each one either severed a part of a changeling or kept them back. His heart was pounding as he and Firebrand fought off the force in front of them. White saw Hestaria blow away a large group of changelings on the airship closest to them. Firebrand jumped at the sound but continued fighting like it hadn't happened. He admired that kind of fighting from both Commander Firebrand and Commander Nexus.
Knight's golden armor felt heavy on his body as he swung. He hated wearing this armor. The iron armor from the Evening Guard was much lighter and offered a bit more protection. But he could make due. His lance passed clean through another changeling's chest but quickly got stuck on the other side. Knight gripped the shaft with all of his strength and heaved the changeling shish kabob over his head and down behind him. He got lucky that there was a changeling trying to tackle him. Another changeling jumped down in front of him and snapped the shaft in two.
Knight sung the broken shaft up and broke the changeling's jaw. As it stammered back, he charged at it and jammed what was left of the broken lance through the changeling's chest. He slammed the now flailing body of the insect creature into the bunker door and started bashing its head into the wall. Behind him, he could feel Firebrand unleash another torrent of fire on the column. The changelings were smarter than usual, they knew to stay back and wait for him to rest his magic before going in. Even then it was useless; he broke their necks like they were tooth picks.
Knight noticed the changeling had stopped struggling so he let it fall to the ground with the shaft still embedded in its chest. Now weaponless, White Knight adjusted his metal boots and prepared for a full on fight to the death. He turned and prepared to beat down the closest changeling but noticed Hestaria already had two dead at her hoofs.
"What?" she asked.
Knight looked to Brand to try and help him but he was busy kicking corpses over the edge.
"Is it me or am I useless here?" Knight asked.
"You're not useless Whitey. You're just inefficient at killing." Hestaria said putting a hoof on his shoulder. "The Princess' okay?"
"Yeah. They're in safe and sound." Firebrand said walking over from the cat walk. "How's Canterlot looking?"
"Infested. Knight, you know where Ephi is right?" Hestaria asked.
"Y-Yeah, his room working. Why?"
"Go get him. We're going to need all the help we can get." Brand added. "I'll stay behind and keep guard."
"Yes, Sir." Knight said spreading his wings.
With the added weight of the armor, he had to get a running start before taking off from the hanger and going towards the Tower of the Moon.
