Pinkamena Interrupted

------------

Pinkamena Diane Pie stood in her basement admiring her work. A table with thick straps, a tray with all her favorite tools and a decorated room ready for her “guests.” The young mare was a baker by trade but she always considered that a side job to her true passion, throwing parties. Parties were her special talent, her greatest joy and every Pony who attended said they were “to die for.”

Pinkamena’s left eye twitched, a crooked smile spread across her face. It was time for another party and that meant picking a guest. She trotted across the room to a wooden work bench adorned with various graphs and lists she had made about her seven past parties and her plans for future ones. Behind a small journal she used to record the reactions of ponies to her “party games” was a worn out party hat filled with scraps of paper. Pinkamena stood on her hind legs, lifted her forelegs off the ground and leaned her chest against the table. Her long hair flowed over the journal gliding into the side of the hat. Gripping the hat between her hooves she lowered her mouth into the hat emerging with a scrap of paper.

Holding the scrap of paper on her hoof she whispered. “Let’s see who the lucky pony is.”

Her jaw dropped and she gaped at the paper. Scrawled on the paper was the number six, Rainbow Dash’s number. A cruel smirk spread across her muzzle. This was one she had been waiting for. She had wanted more than anything to party with one of those traitors. *Twitch* This was different though, this was Dash. Rainbow Dash was pony she wanted to party with most of all. Pinkamena thought back to the last party anypony willingly showed up too. That anypony was Rainbow Dash.

Rainbow Dash stepped through the door to into Sugarcube Corner and flew up to Pinkie’s room. “Hey there, Pinkie Pie… Sorry I was in such a rush earlier. I had some place to be you know how it goes…” Dash looked at the table where Pinkie was serving cake to her… “Guests.”... “What's going on Pinkie?” Dash asked slowly.

“I am having a party with my new friends,” Pinkie replied in a huffy tone. “Isn’t that right Madame La Flour?” Rainbow Dash began backing away as Pinkie put her arm around a bag of flower and in a phoney accent said: “Oui! Zat iz correct, Madame.” Pinkie slowly turned her head towards Rainbow Dash with an uneven smile on her face.

Rainbow Dash took a quick look at her "new friends" and made up her mind. “I gotta go bye!” screamed Rainbow Dash as she bolted out the door leaving the pink pony alone with her new friends.

Pinkamena sighed. She did not know at the time that the little pity party she threw herself would be the last one with more than one guest. Rainbow Dash had told her “friends” everything and soon the rumors of her “Pinkie Party” made its way across Ponyville. When she had grown sick of her pathetic little pick-me-up party she stepped out of her home for some fresh air. As she walked through the town center she noticed a few small crowds gathering short distances away murmuring to each other. That is when she first heard the whispers.

“It’s true look at her mane. It is just like Dash said.”

“She looks so angry; did you hear what she did?”

“I never liked those childish parties anyway. She is twenty-two years old and still playing with confetti and balloons. I knew there was something off about her.”

Everypony began to avoid her. Nopony made eye contact with her on the street, and nopony came to her weekly parties. In desperation she began to throw daily parties but the turnout was always the same, an empty table. Her 5 former closest friends made excuses not to be around her. They were much curter and without thought to plausibility then the ones made to avoid Gummy’s after birthday party. Pinkamena’s life as the most popular pony in Ponyville had ended in the course of an afternoon. She was a pariah and the pegasus that caused it was out there... waiting... for her final party.

Pinkamena laid herself down on her table as her thoughts turned to  her past guests. She smiled and whispered “Mmmn, Dashie we are going to have so much fun together.” She let herself become lost in her dark plans.

---

Rainbow Dash felt free as the wind past her by as she dove. The ground was rapidly approaching beneath her. Her wings flew open and she pulled up on the current back up into the clear blue. Rainbow felt alive. Her mind clear of any distraction she performed trick after stunt after trick. She glided and dived through the air until she grew tired, then coming down to rest upon a cloud where she could relax alone in her thoughts.

The calm air of the beautiful day did not mimic the thoughts in her head as she lost the concentration so essential to her well-practiced performances. As her mind wandered it turned to her reluctantly favorite subject, Pinkie Pie. The pink mare had been in her mind for months.

Rainbow Dash had avoided Pinkie since the incident at Sugarcube Corner. Her thoughts drifted to the mares room or “Creepytown” as she had been referring to it. She had flown out of there the first chance she got leaving Pinkie to her well animated, inanimate “friends”. When she told everypony up at the farm where Pinkie’s surprise party was to take place, the news of what she had seen at Sugarcube Corner spread like a wildfire. Just like that her former best friend became a pariah to the whole town. Rainbow Dash didn’t notice until two months ago what was happening in Pinkie’s life. She was so absorbed with avoiding the pink mare she never noticed that Pinkie was never around. That changed the day she caught site of Pinkie walking through the darkened alleyways between the shops of Ponyville dejected and alone.

Rainbow Dash had quietly followed the crushed mare as she did her errands for the Cakes. When Pinkie walked towards the shops ponies would keep their distance, even the other four of her former best friends would step aside. Rainbow Dash decided to put the “creepiness” in the back of her mind and find out what she had missed. Pinkie had all but disappeared except for shopping in the early morning before the crowds and on rainy days when nopony was about. She didn’t even work the counter anymore staying in back baking the treats, probably because Sugarcube's customers would thin out if the unpopular mare were to be in view of the customers. Rumors of poisons and razor blades in the treats spread around and Rainbow Dash worked to put them down as quickly as she could find the ponies spewing them. That was the least she could do.

What have I done? she mused in what was almost a sob. I wrecked everything for her, I didn’t even ask what she was doing. Pinkie's always been random, I understand that but no pony else does

“I have to do something" she said under her breath. Suddenly it hit her, she had a plan. It was simple, to simple really. If nopony will talk to Pinkie and nopony will be her friend then I will. Forget the talking flour sacks and creepy facial expressions, it is time to mare up and fix this. Pinkie may hate me now but I to do something! Rainbow Dash thought. I can do this; all I need to do is stick to Pinkie like my hooves are made of glue…

“How hard could this really be? ” Dash said to herself.
