Chapter 2: Falling

Falling

Falling.

It’s a simple word, but the effects of it can be deadly, surprising, and alarming. I got all three jumbled in one. Wind was rushing past my face, my wings were stuck by my side and..

Wait, wings since when do humans have wings. I can now add confusing to the list of emotions caused by this free fall.

Panic takes over my body, the wings can wait until I stop falling, and preferably not when I hit the ground. My body begins to hit clouds on the way down and even though they are made of simple bits of water floating in the air they seem to slow my decent. Whatever the cause of this I have a way to slow down, I just hope its enough for me to survive the fall, hopefully without broken bones.

As I hit clouds one by one I can feel my decent slowing rapidly, but the ground is getting closer at a much higher pace. Every time I hit a cloud it feels like hopping on a bed only to fall through it and continue onto the next one. Maybe if I can find a thick enough cloud I can stop my decent completely.

A few more clouds come and go, with pony shaped holes now in the middle, another question that I can answer once I land. Soon enough a thick dark grey storm cloud is approaching, but its over to the left and I’m moving to fast to glide over to it.

"Great, A cloud that can save my ass and its to far away, isn’t this just great. Wait I have wings!”

I begin to flap my new wings and head over to the cloud, or at least I would if I knew how to use these dam things. The cloud goes passing by just two feet away from my rapidly falling body.

“So cloud that can save me. Gone. Wings that can save me. Not working. I screwed”

Lost in my internal rant, I fail to see the fast approaching storm cloud directly below me. Its much darker then the last one and the insides seem to be glowing a menacing blue. Hitting the storm cloud dead center, It begins to stretch but its holding my weight. Just as everything is beginning to look like its going to be ok that menacing blue glow reappears, and big shocker its was lightning.

“Well this is just Fuc..”

A loud boom rivaling Rainbow Dash’s Sonic Rainboom spread’s though the area. A purple unicorn and a blue Pegasus look up to the cause of the noise and see a dark blue Pegasus falling from a storm cloud that just released a lightning bolt.
“Twilight, why is Blue Mist falling from the sky.”

“Opps, I think I teleported him to the wrong spot.”

How did I start falling, Earth that’s right I was on Earth back when I was a human, all those years ago. Well it felt like years but really its been five minutes. Lets see, It was Friday, I had just gotten home and thats right.

This is not my life, my life ended three years ago along with everyone else I knew.
The only difference between us is that my existence continues. As I pull into the driveway Home by Three Days Grace starts playing, even a radio station seems to know how I feel.
As I park my car I see the house that was once a home, but with everyone gone it's just a house now.

A simple house, nothing special about it. Plane white siding, a few windows scattered around. With four acres of small forest to every side its perfect for a secluded lifestyle.
You would say its perfect for my life, but with everyone gone is this still a life?
Days blended into weeks, then months, finally three years passed.
Three years since my life ended with everyone else I knew, everyone I loved.

But fate had a sense of humor when it came to me, my physical being survived that day but I emotionally died. It would have been easier if I died with them.
My life would have continued with them, not ended.

Walking inside I yell out "I'm back.”
Wishing that one day a familiar voice would respond to me.
Wishing that one day I would realize it was all a dream.
Wishing that one day, wishes could come true.

I see the place just how I left it, empty. Three sets of keys sit in a bowl, on top of some change. Two sets of keys go to the two cars sitting in the driveway. The other set belongs to a car that was lost, along with everyone else, three years ago. Five chairs sit around a table, only one is ever used now. A large kitchen, stocked with food to feed an entire family. A note hangs from the fridge with a date, just over three years old, circled.
'Family trip in three days!'

Rustling around in the fridge I pull out everything to make a sandwich and grab a coke.
It’s Friday, now I can’t look forward to distracting myself with work tomorrow.
With everyone gone, the money they left behind was more then enough for me to not get a job. However I then would have more time to sulk, more time to feel the sorrow that has replaced my happiness.

I continued my daily task of reading a novel by Stephen King. As I already read the entire Dark Tower series once, I decided to start over a few months ago. Unfortunately as much reading as I do the seven books would only last so long, and today was the end.

"Great.. now what can I do, the eighth book doesn't come out for another week!"

I decide to watch some T.V. It’s nothing special but it helps pass time.
It's the middle of April so I have some baseball games to distract me from my existence.
"HOMERUN!" The booming sounds rings through my ears.
I look up to see the box that has been my only connection to the outside world. The images flashing across the screen reveal that the game is over.

"Well there goes that distraction. It's nice out, might as well go outside."

Grabbing my Ipod I set out into the outside world, while it may seem peaceful the days just aren’t the same anymore. Beauty and peace are just illusions to me. Unable to live the life I once had, with the people I once loved.

I turn on my favorite play list and lay on the grass.
Lonely Day by System of a Down starts playing.
I start gazing into the sky, watching the clouds go by and the rainbow form above me.

"A Rainbow... That's strange it hasn’t rained in days"

Suddenly the world is enveloped in color as the rainbow gets closer and closer...

Then Darkness descends upon my sight.
