She cried.

She cried and cried until it hurt her so. But even then she didn't stop her cries. Her face and his chest soaked with her tears. Her forelegs wrapped around his cold body. Begging for him to be alive. Alive to love him.
Her throat ached, her eyes were sore. But she didn't care. She didn't care about herself. She didn't care about the physical pain. She only cared about the draconnequus in her hooves.
It wasn't a horrific death. It wasn't a bloody mess out of a book. It would have hurt Celestia even more if she saw his blood. But what pained her the most was that he passed when it was supposed to be their victory. He was supposed to say something funny and moan about the sun or something. Not die. No, he wasn't supposed to die.

"Please, let this be sick joke, Discord. Please. Just don't leave me now."

The room was left in a deafening silence. Forcing everyone to listen to the cries of a broken lover. It pained them to see and hear their strong ruler, the pony everyone looked up to, the pony who supported Equestria and kept it going forth through it's troubles, was broken. Was wailing, sobbing, over the corpse of the spirit she loved. Her pained, sore sobs. Pained, sore sobs for a broken, lost love.
Similar cries had happened before. A couple of years ago. The couple were young but still lived. They were still alive, engaged. Able to create a family and live together.

But not Celestia. She couldn't do any of those things.

She had already cried for him. Many, many years ago when they were young. She cried for him then. And he cried for her.
Now, her sobs were strained and broken. She tried. She tried again. She tried to be with him again. She tried so damn hard to be with him like she used to. To rekindle that flame. After watching the pegasus lovers, Rainbow and Soarin, suffer traumas but then grow closer, she thought she could do the same. But, her plan was one-sided. She never knew if he returned the feelings. Not only that but she had the duties of Equestria to hold. She also feared that ponies would hate her for loving an old enemy of Equestria, reformed or not. But, she still loved him. She didn't care what others thought. She didn't care about that. She cared about him. And nothing would have been in the way of them.

Except his death.

Feeling her own heart rip, Celestia held him close. Refusing to stop her cries. Refusing to leave. She had to be close by him. It was the least she could do. After everything he has done. If he wasn't there, Equestria would have been ripped apart quite literally. The Harmonic Magical Barrier would have tipped without an even amount of both order and chaos magic. And due to the large loss of Celestia's order magic, the barrier tipped violently. Causing the magic in Equestria to become deadly. It either caused pegasi to drop from the sky, or for unicorns to suffer head injuries.
But Discord stopped that. Despite only having chaos magic, he was there to support both sides. And he stayed to helped until he died.

And that made Celestia cry harder. He saved her, and her land without a second thought. Yet, he couldn't even live to see it win and rise again. To see her again.

The shaking yellow pegasus stared. Unable to process what was happening. Her friend had died. And not 'died-then-it-actually-turns-out-they're-alive'. He was dead. Everyone saw it coming. He was already dying. It was surprising that he actually lived that long, but it was expected to happen.
Fluttershy hoped it wouldn't have happened. She hoped that he would live. And they could have their afternoon tea parties with cucumber sandwiches. And he would make jokes, puns and alter little bits of reality.

But no. He...he was laying down. Cold. Unmoving. Dead.

Fluttershy slowly walked over, trying not to bother the alicorn. Her eyes stuck on the spirit, but she glanced at the wailing princess. Her face buried into his neck. Soaking his fur with her tears. Crying uncontrolla-

That's when she saw it. Fluttershy's aquamarine eyes watching carefully. She moved closer, and placed her own ear on his chest. Hoping that what she saw was tr-

"Princess, shush." She demanded. Her concentration on listening for slightest sound.

Celestia sat up sluggishly. Slouching. She rubbed her eyes and turned to pegasus, who was leaning on him.

Suddenly, a flicker of hope lit up in the alicorn's heart. She watched, hoping that there was something.

Now, Fluttershy had a sharp sense of hearing. Even from birth. She could hear the smallest things, that no-pony else could hear. This also why lots of normal sounds frightened her. To her, they were really, really loud.

Her ear was pressed harder against Discord's chest. She could swear she heard the th-

....thump....

She held her breath. She heard it. It was quiet, weak and barely there, but still actually there.

...thump...

Her eyes widened. Tears overflowing. Happiness filled. She smiled and shot up.
Everypony watching, especially Princess Celestia.

"It's there. His heart beat." Fluttershy cried out, but happily.

Celestia stared at the pegasus. Unsure.

"It's true. He's still alive, Princess. It's a weak heartbeat, but still there. Discord is alive."

Celestia's mouth twitched. She then stared at the draconnequus. A wobbly smile upon her pearl white face. Tears pouring from her eyes for a different reason.
She quickly placed her ear on him again. Wanting to hear it hers-

...t-thump...

A lump formed in her throat. It was there. His heart was still beating. Struggling, but still beating.

The tall alicorn stood up quickly, her horn lighting up. A golden glow surrounded Discord and she turned to everyone in the room.

"I-I...I've gotta-"

"Go, sister. We'll wait." Luna shouted, but softly. Celestia turned to the blue alicorn and nodded.

In a flash of golden light, the two were gone.

I lied! Only one character was meant to die! As I've said before, I can't kill off my favourite character.
It's kinda cliché, but what the heck? Discord was only dead for a chapter!
Next chapter, da shadow pones!! As Solitaire returns, she finds out she wasn't the only one who went mad.

Also, the sequel. I'm not sure. It won't be a full in romance. It would be about the ocs. They could have romance (I don't know, I mean, Solitaire is single)
For the plot, if you remember, Solitaire agreed to help in return that she and the others would be turned into real ponies. Celestia agreed despite it being impossible.
When Celestia admits the truth, the shadow ponies turn. Turning against Equestria.
