Chapter 3

It was the morning before Nightmare night, and Twilight and Spike just finished having breakfast. Spikes stomach then rumbled.

"Don't tell me you're still hungry." Twilight said. "You just had a huge breakfast."

"No it's not tha-" Spike said, getting cut off from burping up a letter. He then handed it to Twilight. "Uh, I think it's for you."

"A letter from the Princess..." Twilight said, not expecting any mail. She's all caught up with her work and she sent a message to Celestia not three days ago. She then opened it. "Oh it's a from Luna."

"Well, what does it say?" Spike asked.

"Dear Twilight Sparkle, I require your aid at the royal library for the coming festival. It is of the utmost importance that you come as fast as you can. Signed, Princess Luna." Twilight read. "Well, I guess I should go then."

"You should bring your costume. You don't know when you're coming back and you don't want to be late for the Nightmare Night festival." Spike said as Twilight started her teleportation spell.

"Good point Spike." Twilight said, stopping the spell to grab her costume. "I'll be back as soon as I can. Don't wait up!"

"Wasn't planning on it Twi." Spike said after she had left.

Twilight appeared in the royal library to see Luna with her back turned studying a pile of books.

"What do you have there princess?" Twilight said.

"Ah!" Luna gasped, relaxing when she saw Twilight. "Oh just some dusty tomes. I'm planning on going out tonight dressed as a vampire, but the costume I made is... how should I put this? Terrible. So now I am trying to find images of a vampire so I may adhere to its appearance and look truly terrifying."

"Oh." Twilight said, wondering why she was there, since Luna had appeared to have everything under control. "Then why do you need help? I mean, if you already have a picture of one then you don't need my help."

"That's the problem I am having." Luna said, using her magic to open and flip the pages of half a dozen books. "According to all of these writings there is not and never can be. The reason is because that vampires are the undead, they lose their soul once they become one of the night, thus losing the ability to see themselves in mirrors."

"What does that have to do with anything?" Twilight asked skeptically. "Surely someone has seen one and painted a picture."

"No. Most ponies who find themselves in face with a vampire are outmatched by quicker thinking, bigger muscles and lightning reflexes." Luna said. "There are tales of few ponies who survived and tried to paint what they saw, but the next day the paint vanishes off of the paper."

"Wow that is freaky." Twilight said, grabbing one of the books Luna appeared to be done with. "Seems that you picked the right thing to dress as."

"Until I find a way to look like one then I will keep disagreeing with that statement." Luna said, sighing. "And even IF I find a way to look like one, how will I make the costume in time?"

"Have you thought of using magic?" Twilight asked. "Maybe there is an old spell book around that can help."

Luna glared at Twilight.

"If thou think that I did not think of that then you are wr-" Luna stopped.

Then Luna proceeded to facehoof.

"I should have thought of that..." Luna said.

"That's why you called me here." Twilight said, making light of the situation.

"I guess so." Luna said laughing. "Got any idea where some good spell books are?"

"I think so just wait here for a minute, I think I have one at home that could help." Twilight said.

"Alright, just hurry." Luna said. "There is only a few more hours until the celebrations start and I want to look my scariest when that time comes."

"I'll try." Twilight said, teleporting herself back home. Next Chapter: Chapter 4 Estimated time remaining: 2 Minutes
