Chapter 1: The Epiphany And The Agreement

Applejack adjusted her hat as she got ready to buck another tree. Her strong, powerful legs itching to knock some apples into the baskets below. She raised her right leg, and swung it hard against the tree.

The fruit fell on command, the baskets filling in an instant. The farm girl smirked, wiping some sweat from her forehead. It was extremely hot today, and she wasn't about to let the heat stop her. To further cool herself down, she tied up the white wifebeater under her unbuttoned red plaid shirt, exposing her toned, tan stomach.

Putting her work gloves back on, Applejack went into the house to check on Applebloom. "What you doin' Bloom?" she called up the stairs to the younger girl.

"Mah homework but Ah need help!" Came from the room at the top of the stairs.

Applejack sighed before bounding up the stairs and into her sister's room. "Now what in tarnation is it that you cant understand?" she asks sticking her hand out for the paper.

Applebloom hands her the paper. AJ reads it over and looks confused. Numbers and letters in Math? She didn't learn any of this in fifth grade. Course, after their parents had died when she was Applebloom's age, she had dropped out to help out on the farm. "What they teachin' you in this school?"

"It's something called Algebra. Mah teacher Miss Cheerilee is teachin' it ta us." The redhead responds, twirling around in her desk chair.

"Ah'm sorry Bloom but Ah never learnt this. Ah dropped out mid year." Actually saying it made Applejack feel ashamed. But it was necessary. Granny was getting too old to work and Mac couldn't do it all by himself.

Money was getting tight, and Applebloom being a newborn didn't help. Milk wasn't a problem because they had cows, but feeding the rest of the family was a challenge. Some days AJ would go to class and some days she wouldn't. After a while she sort of just stopped going. She didn't think anything of it back then, but now it seemed like a big deal.

"Maybe Mac'll help you when he gets back from the market." she mumbled afterwards, handing the worksheet back to her.

The youngest Apple nodded, sighing as she flipped through her text book for the help page.

Applejack stomped down the steps before heading back out.

She nearly bumped into her brother. "Mac! Didn't you see me?!"

The older boy gave her a confused look. She wasn't this angry this morning. "Jack, what's botherin' ya?" he asks.

"Nothin! Nothin at all!" she says, pushing passed him.

He grabs her wrist. "Ain't no nothin'! Somethin's bothering ya!"

She glared at him, her dark green eyes burning with anger. "Ah told you nothin' ain't botherin' me!" she pulls but he didn't let go. "Mac you better let go or so help me-"

The older boy didn't even let her finish, grabbing her other hand and shoving both of them behind her back like a police officer. Applejack cries out in pain. "Mac! Stop!"

"Not until you tell me what's got you so mad!" He shouted. He only did this move on her when he knew she was holding back her feelings. He first did it a few weeks after their parents died when she had stopped talking. She didn't eat much, and when she did, it wasn't a lot. When he had finally pinned her down she broke down into tears, screaming how she wanted them to be a family again. It broke his heart that she would keep feelings like that bottled up inside.

Granny once told them that people who keep their emotions inside were people who would snap and kill themselves. He didn't want that happening to her. So when ever she tried to make it seem like nothing was wrong, he made sure she was really okay. Even though it annoyed the hell out of her.

"Tell me and Ah'll let go." he says.

Applejack glared at him before pulling away. "Fine. Ah'm angry."

"About?" Mac pressed.

"Somethin'." she mumbled.

He twisted her wrist again.

"Ow! Ow! Dammit, okay! Ah'm mad cause Ah couldn't help Bloom with her homework!"

He let go and looked confused. "Why are ya angry, Jack?"

"Because, because Ah couldn't help her, Mac. It was the first time since they died that I couldn't help her." Applejack pulled her Stetson over her face, knowing that she was about to cry.

"Why does that matter?" Mac asked.

She removed her hat from her face and glared at him. "Ah never finished school! Here Ah am, twenty fucking two years old and with the education of a fourth grader! A fourth grader, Mac." she half whispered.

"Ah had no choice. If Ah didn't help out we would have gone into debt and lost the farm. There woulda been no way for us to raise our sister."

Mac nodded, and put a hand on her shoulder. "Ah know Jack, Ah know." Mac on the other hand, didn't have to drop out since he was older and Granny wanted him to finish. He graduated high school but never went to college. He felt like he didn't need it anyway.

"Ah don't know what Imma do, Mac. What can Ah do? It's too later ta do anything." Applejack mumbled.

"Nonsense, Jack! There's always time ta fix things! You know that! Granny would have knocked you over yer head for that negative thinkin!"

Applejack nodded.

Mac sighed. "Why don't you go on to Twilight? She's pretty smart. She could probably teach ya a few things. Go on, get. Ah'll finish up things here."

Applejack beamed before hugging her brother. "Ah'll be back before dinner! Tell Granny Ah went out!" She called as she ran off towards town.

Mac smiled and put his hands on his hips. "As stubborn as she is, Twilight's gonna have a hell of a hard time teaching that one." He chuckled before picking up a basket of fruit beside him.

Applejack made it to the library faster than she thought she would have, and rapped on the door.

"Who is it?" The girl asked.

"It's me Twilight, Ah came ta ask ya somethin'!" AJ said through the door.

Applejack heard the lock unlock and the door opened to reveal the tan skinned librarian. "Hello!" Twilight chirped. She had a book in her hand and a cup of coffee in the other.

"Hey. Nice ta see ya." Applejack responded as she walked inside. "Whatcha up to?"

"Well I've been organizing the books on the shelves but I found this interesting one on human and dragon hybrids so I'm reading up on their transition into puberty. Got to be prepared for next year." Twilight told her, putting the book in her face.

Spike was thirteen, he had already started hitting puberty. Applejack knew this because there would be days where she would catch him staring at her or Rarity's chest. What Twilight was exactly preparing for Applejack didn't know, but what she did know is that Twilight mustve forgotten how old he was.

"Well, Ah need to ask you a favor." Applejack said, looking down at the floor.

"Oh? What is it?" Twilight asked.

"When my Ma and Pa died Ah had to drop out of school. And then things got too complicated for me to go back so...Ah never went back." She saw that Twilight wasn't quite following, so she quickly added, "So...would you...uh.."

"You want me to tutor you?" Twilight asked, her eyes bright with enthusiasm.

"Yeah, that's what Ah'm saying." Applejack sighed in relief. She was glad Twilight understood.

"Well AJ, I'd love to! Just, one question.." Twilight told her.

"Yeah?"

"When did you...drop out?"

"Uh...fifth grade."

"Sweet Celestia Applejack! You're twenty two years old with a fourth grade education?!" When Twilight said it, it actually sounded a lot worse.

"Yeah." Applejack sighed.

"Well then. We must get started immediately. I'll have Spike order some textbooks tonight but tomorrow you must show up here at 7 am sharp. Comprende?" Twilight said, raising her eyebrows.

"Yes ma'am." Applejack responded.

And with that, Applejack was shoved out the door. She sighed once again, before rolling her shoulders and starting her way back to the farm.

By the time she had gotten back the sun had set and she was stepping through the door. Granny, Mac and Bloom were already at the dinner table, her plate full and ready for her.

She sat down and began to eat, her brother eyeing her as she did so.

"What'd Twilight say?" He asked as he took a sip of his apple juice.

AJ scooped a spoon full of mac and cheese into her mouth. "She told me ta come back tomorrow."

"Applejack, don't talk with yer mouth full." Granny chimed in from the end of the table.

"Yes ma'am." she responded.

"Well Ah think its mighty nice of Twilight ta help ya." Big Mac responded.

"Yeah." AJ responded, swallowing. "Ah just hope she goes easy on me."

The next day, Applejack got up early to complete all her chores before she took off to Twilight's. When she was done she started her walk into town.

By the time she had gotten there the sun had almost completely risen, and people around her had begun to open shops and go about their daily routine.

The open sign on the library welcomed her, and she knocked.

"Come in!" Twilight said.

Applejack opened the door to see something that confused her. There was a single student desk in the middle room and a chalk board in front of it onto the side. Beside the board was a teacher sized desk with multiple textbooks stacked on it.

"Ta-da!" Twilight said, presenting.

Applejack looks from the room to her and nearly blushes. Twilight, instead of her usual plaid skirt and purple sweater was wearing a crisp white dress shirt that wasn't exactly buttoned up all the way.

Applejack could tell because she saw the tip of her purple bra. Twilight wasn't as well endowed as she or Rarity or even Fluttershy was, but she sure had something.

She also had on a short black pencil skirt that showed off her legs nicely. Her hair was in a messy bun that made her look almost sexy compared to how adorkable she usually was.

Applejack opened her mouth to say something but nothing seemed to come out.

"So? How do I look? Do I scream 'teacher'?" Twilight asked, waving her hands when she said teacher.

"You're screaming somethin'." Applejack mumbled under her breath.

"What?" Twilight asked.

"Er, nothin'. Uh, listen Twi, Ah appreciate you doin' this fer me." Applejack says, taking off her hat.

Twilight giggled. "No problem." she waved off as she sat at the edge of her desk. she motioned for her to sit before continuing with, "Now we know what grade you left off at, but what subject did you last learn?"

Applejack was finding it hard to concentrate with the way Twilight was dressed and especially with the way she was sitting. She really did have nice legs.

"Applejack?" Twilight called again.

"Huh?" Applejack said, snapping out of her trance.

"Did you hear what I just said?" Twilight asked concerned, leaning over to touch her hand. Applejack could see down her shirt perfectly. Not that she had any choice, Twilight's chest was right in front of her face.

"Uh, um," She licked her lips. She hadn't noticed until now how Twilight had such a nice body. She was surprisingly fit for someone who didn't do a lot of athletic things.

"Hmm?" Twilight said, getting closer to her.

Damn, she had kissable lips too. That shade of lipstick she had on was really working for her. Applejack bit her own lip. What was going on here? She didn't find girls or even Twilight attractive...but now...she was starting to second think that.

"C-Can we just start with the basics?" Applejack nearly squeaked.

Twilight thought for a moment. "Hmmm. Okay. We'll start with some good old multiplication." She decided, getting up much to the farm girl's relief. She walked over to the chalk board and bent down to pick up a piece of chalk.

Applejack's grip on her desk tightened. Oh for the love of- She had an ass too?! And it was perfect beyond belief!

Applejack let her head bang into the table. This was going to be a long week.
