Cole Harris was just Getting done from his usual wrestling practice, it was only 5:30 so he had some time to spare before his mom would be expecting him home. she was not one to tolerate being late, and almost everyone who spent any real time with cole knew that. Despite this he walked over to one of his friend's houses, hoping they would have time to chat.He knocked on Logan's door a few times, hoping he would be home.
Logan's yard was ornately decorated with beautiful daffodils, daisys, and a few carnations. A stone statue here and there partially covered in light green moss gave the place a more classical feel, while intricate metal artwork sustained the modern phiysique. a gentle stream ran along the pathway ending next to the stairs in a magnificent waterfall, then spreading out to irrigate the many plant species. Logan had, even as a teenager, always dreamed of being an upper-class computer programmer or, as he liked to call it 'Architect.'
"Yes?" A man who had came to the door, asked. "Oh! Its you cole, come on in!" Logan stepped back and gestured slightly for his guest to make himself at home, an act which his guest was more than happy to oblige to. "Please, would you like me to get you a drink, water perhaps?" He knew this agitated cole for him to be speaking in such a way, but that was all the more reason to do it.
"No thanks, I just came to visit for a few minutes i must be getting back soon." Cole felt a little akward but knew his friend was not one to judge.
"Thats fine, so..." Logan paused thinking to himself for a moment, "how is life treating you?"
"Fine, I just had an order come in for some private wrestling lessons, seems this kid is a lot like i was in high school," Cole stopped reminiscing about their past. "Ahh!!! i did finally get a contract to Bindl industries, they seem to think i have some nack for picking out 'cool car models,' but is you ask me, i think its just a propaganda technique." Cole sighed, knowing that this was probably the case.
"Well that sounds great to me but you dont look to enthusiastic about it, no?" Logan ended his sentance with the one word, making cole chuckle at the times he made fun of him for it.
"No its not really that, its just.. i, well..." Cole looked dazed and trailed off, making Logan wonder if he was all right.
"Dude, all it is is how you feel its not like quantum physics or anything..." Logan broke off as he realized something he had almost forgotten. "Cole! you will not believe what hHolden and i did! its just so crazy, i don't even believe it myself and i was the one who programmed it!!" He grabbed coles arm and with a jerk lifted him off of the couch he was on, making cole cringe with the pain of having your arm suddenly pulled on. Cole was being hauled down a hallway which, Cole noted, was surprisingly clean for the way Logan was. They turned a sharp corner, sliding just a bit on the shiny black marble floor. A small circular pad was on the wall, no doubt for entry clearance. Logan held his whole palm to the device as it scanned his hand. Cole knew that he was too smart than just to have a palm-scanner and was not at all surprised when the machine drew a small ammount of blood from Logan's palm, then continued checking his pulse.
"Ok so this is actually kind of bad, in a sense, considering all of the many things it could do, or what someone might do with IT." The door opened revealing a room not unsimilar to a N.A.S.A lab. Cole was taken through rows upon rows of containers filled with all sorts of things, some contained a liquid, some had rocks, and some were even filled with a gas.
The rows ended in a wide angle, revealing a circular door encompased with the Vorlicon logo. After a few taps on a keypad set next to the door logan etered through it as if the door were not solid anymore.
“Hey, Logan! Hey, Cole! Whats up? I was just adding some tweaks to our machine. Oh!! Cole, do you want to see it in action? Well do yah, huh? Huh?” The hyperactive scientist was almost bouncing out of his seat on the thought of showing his friend what he had done.
“Sure, can you explain what it does, to me, first?” Cole was getting a little nervous, remembering how some of Holden’s past experiments went. But he was also a little curious as to what it had to do with Quantum Physics.
“Stand back.” Holden pulled on a pair of over-sized goggles and gloves making him look a bit like a mad scientist from old T.V. shows. He pulled on levers an toggle switches, which were in a seemingly endless line. Buzzing and whirring from the inside of the machine told them it was active.
“Stand right over here!” Logan directed cole to a little platform near the machine, “Do not let anyone see you, and when you want to return hit this button, but make sure you are on the platform before you do!”
Wait, cole thought, why not let anyone see me? He was about to ask when the machine gave an awful sound, almost identical to the kind of noise a jet makes when it is taking off. A few more buttins were pressed and almost instantly the room lit up with a bright white light, blinding cole.
