When you care enough to send the very best

Spike ran downstairs at supersonic speeds, so fast that not even Twilight noticed that he had dashed out of the library in a blink. Today, Spike felt confident, he knew that it was either now or never, so he took his chance and told himself today’s the day.

There was absolutely nothing that could stand in his way from obtaining Rarity’s heart, well, except 3 things: 1. Rarity had resigned to being a lone wolf. 2. She had decided to be a filly-fooler and was dating mares, or 3. She thought that Spike was rubbish. Of course, was the third option happen, he knew that she would change her mind after she saw him and what he had brought, he was dangling a wagon behind him dashing at speeds not even Pinkie nor Rainbow dash could keep up to him if they tried, he was going too darn fast.

Spike, of course, could not obtain such athletism without rest, he took a quick stop next to sugarcube corner, ran inside, and came back outside a split-minute later with a doughnut in one hand and a cupcake in the other, he threw the doughnut in the wagon and stared at the blue cupcake, he gobbled it whole and got ready to retake his extreme race to carousel boutique before Pinkie pie stopped him dead in his tracks.

-HEYA SPIKE!” shouted Pinkie pie as she jumped on her favorite dragon, Spike would usually have gasped for breath, but today was much, much different, he was as happy as an orange pony surrounded by pink pegasi (of course it makes no sense, that’s the point) he gladly smiled to the pink partypony and slid out from under her, as he could see, she was apparently as happy as he was for the hearty holiday.

For some ponies, this was simply the day you wrote your feelings on a heart-shaped card, but for those who had a very special somepony in their lives, it meant so much more. Pinkie’s expression alone said that she understood that, she had a huge smile on her face, excitedly bouncing.

-So Spike, where are you heading off? You seem in such a hurry” she asked, Spike stared at her as if saying “are you serious?” Pinkie seemed as lost as Derpy when she was lost in a flock of unicorns. “OOOOOHHHH! I get it! You’re off to see Rarity! And I assume whatever is in that wagon is you’re gift! Am I right or am I right?” she asked, excitingly scanning Spike’s trunk. She could visibly see the purple wagon, but he had apparently put poles on all four corners and hung up curtains, Pinkie, being so hyperactive at the mention of surprises wanted to jump up and down trying to guess what was in it, but she decided now wasn’t the time to mention to Spike that it was obvious he had a giant sweetie belle-colored tree behind the curtains, she wanted to tell him all about her day.

-So… guess whose coming to ponyville?” she excitedly asked as she jumped up and down. Spike didn’t hesitate, although he wanted to get to Rarity as soon as possible, he accepted Pinkie’s challenge. He couldn’t think of the arrival of anypony that could make his friend this pumped.

“Is it… princess celestia?”

-Nope!”

“Is it… sapphire shores?”

-Nope!”

“Is it… you’re parents and sisters?”

-That, would be, AWESOME! But nope”

“Is it… another dragon?”

-Nopey dopey!”

“Is it-

-I’ll give you a hint! Its one of Applejack’s family members, HE lives in Appleloosa. AANND his name starts with a B and ends with an N! Real hard huh?”

Pinkie had given a bit too much of a hint, in fact, it practically gave it away.

“Um, well, let’s see… Oh! Oh! I know! It’s Zecora!” exclaimed Spike.

This time Pinkie gave him the “seriously?” look. Spike giggled a bit at his joke. Big mac came into the scene as if called by Pinkie, hauling a carriage, he passed by them saying: “nope”.

-No silly dragon! It’s Braeburn! And you know what the best part is? He’s coming JUST for hearts and hooves day! He should be at the station right now!” Her jumping was slowly stopping, while her smile was turning into a shocking realization.

-OMYGOSH! What am I doing here? I should be at the train station! Whose going to give him a tour of Ponyville now?” she gasped, she was so stressed, she dashed in the wrong direction, completely forgetting the location of the ponyville train station.

Now that Pinkie was out of his hair-or scales for his matter-, Spike continued on his way to Rarity’s, with a smile streaking across his face, he dashed off, to carousel boutique. He ran at top speeds until he bumped into an equally fast Scootaloo. The filly stared at the dragon. Spike, seeing the possible outcome of a conversation, quickly briefed up his explanation.

“Hey Scootaloo! Nice hearth warming eve we’ve got here, huh?” he asked, pointing to the snow around him, Spike felt stupid. “Anyways, I’m delivering this, err, gift to Rarity. Don’t ask why, don’t ask how, just let me pass, please”

-Eerrr, Spike? I’ll gladly get out of your way, but, um,” said Scootaloo, noticing something fishy.

“What?” asked Spike, he had no time for questions.

-Where’s your gift?” she said, gesturing to the empty handed Spike. He quickly looked at his hands and facepalmed in realization. How could he have left his important gift?

“Oh, for Luna’s sake! You could have reminded me earlier!” shouted Spike. Man, he felt stupid. “You never saw me!” he said as he quickly ran back to sugarcube corner. Scootaloo just stood there, sighing.

-man, i will never understand love" she said, as she shook her head in miscomprehension and zoomed away.
