When you care enough to send the very best
Spike ran downstairs at supersonic speeds, so fast that not even Twilight noticed that he had dashed out of the library in a blink. Today, Spike felt confident, he knew that it was either now or never, so he took his chance and told himself today’s the day.
There was absolutely nothing that could stand in his way from obtaining Rarity’s heart, well, except 3 things: 1. Rarity had resigned to being a lone wolf. 2. She had decided to be a filly-fooler and was dating mares, or 3. She thought that Spike was rubbish. Of course, was the third option happen, he knew that she would change her mind after she saw him and what he had brought, he was dangling a wagon behind him dashing at speeds not even Pinkie nor Rainbow dash could keep up to him if they tried, he was going too darn fast.
Spike, of course, could not obtain such athletism without rest, he took a quick stop next to sugarcube corner, ran inside, and came back outside a split-minute later with a doughnut in one hand and a cupcake in the other, he threw the doughnut in the wagon and stared at the blue cupcake, he gobbled it whole and got ready to retake his extreme race to carousel boutique before Pinkie pie stopped him dead in his tracks.
-HEYA SPIKE!” shouted Pinkie pie as she jumped on her favorite dragon, Spike would usually have gasped for breath, but today was much, much different, he was as happy as an orange pony surrounded by pink pegasi (of course it makes no sense, that’s the point) he gladly smiled to the pink partypony and slid out from under her, as he could see, she was apparently as happy as he was for the hearty holiday.
For some ponies, this was simply the day you wrote your feelings on a heart-shaped card, but for those who had a very special somepony in their lives, it meant so much more. Pinkie’s expression alone said that she understood that, she had a huge smile on her face, excitedly bouncing.
-So Spike, where are you heading off? You seem in such a hurry” she asked, Spike stared at her as if saying “are you serious?” Pinkie seemed as lost as Derpy when she was lost in a flock of unicorns. “OOOOOHHHH! I get it! You’re off to see Rarity! And I assume whatever is in that wagon is you’re gift! Am I right or am I right?” she asked, excitingly scanning Spike’s trunk. She could visibly see the purple wagon, but he had apparently put poles on all four corners and hung up curtains, Pinkie, being so hyperactive at the mention of surprises wanted to jump up and down trying to guess what was in it, but she decided now wasn’t the time to mention to Spike that it was obvious he had a giant sweetie belle-colored tree behind the curtains, she wanted to tell him all about her day.
-So… guess whose coming to ponyville?” she excitedly asked as she jumped up and down. Spike didn’t hesitate, although he wanted to get to Rarity as soon as possible, he accepted Pinkie’s challenge. He couldn’t think of the arrival of anypony that could make his friend this pumped.
“Is it… princess celestia?”
-Nope!”
“Is it… sapphire shores?”
-Nope!”
“Is it… you’re parents and sisters?”
-That, would be, AWESOME! But nope”
“Is it… another dragon?”
-Nopey dopey!”
“Is it-
-I’ll give you a hint! Its one of Applejack’s family members, HE lives in Appleloosa. AANND his name starts with a B and ends with an N! Real hard huh?”
Pinkie had given a bit too much of a hint, in fact, it practically gave it away.
“Um, well, let’s see… Oh! Oh! I know! It’s Zecora!” exclaimed Spike.
This time Pinkie gave him the “seriously?” look. Spike giggled a bit at his joke. Big mac came into the scene as if called by Pinkie, hauling a carriage, he passed by them saying: “nope”.
-No silly dragon! It’s Braeburn! And you know what the best part is? He’s coming JUST for hearts and hooves day! He should be at the station right now!” Her jumping was slowly stopping, while her smile was turning into a shocking realization.
-OMYGOSH! What am I doing here? I should be at the train station! Whose going to give him a tour of Ponyville now?” she gasped, she was so stressed, she dashed in the wrong direction, completely forgetting the location of the ponyville train station.
Now that Pinkie was out of his hair-or scales for his matter-, Spike continued on his way to Rarity’s, with a smile streaking across his face, he dashed off, to carousel boutique. He ran at top speeds until he bumped into an equally fast Scootaloo. The filly stared at the dragon. Spike, seeing the possible outcome of a conversation, quickly briefed up his explanation.
“Hey Scootaloo! Nice hearth warming eve we’ve got here, huh?” he asked, pointing to the snow around him, Spike felt stupid. “Anyways, I’m delivering this, err, gift to Rarity. Don’t ask why, don’t ask how, just let me pass, please”
-Eerrr, Spike? I’ll gladly get out of your way, but, um,” said Scootaloo, noticing something fishy.
“What?” asked Spike, he had no time for questions.
-Where’s your gift?” she said, gesturing to the empty handed Spike. He quickly looked at his hands and facepalmed in realization. How could he have left his important gift?
“Oh, for Luna’s sake! You could have reminded me earlier!” shouted Spike. Man, he felt stupid. “You never saw me!” he said as he quickly ran back to sugarcube corner. Scootaloo just stood there, sighing.
-man, i will never understand love" she said, as she shook her head in miscomprehension and zoomed away.

part 2/5
Spike wheeled his wagon furiously down the streets of Ponyville. It wasn’t long before that inconvenient frown turned into an upbeat smile. He skipped from block to block with nothing but good motivations.
A quite glum-looking Snails bumped into the dragon. Spike fell down from the knockback and nearly crashed into his covered wagon. Which he barely saved. Spike stared angrily at Snails, but his complaining look was quickly replaced by sympathy and shock. The schoolcolt had his head bowing down in shame, so low that his horn left tracks wherever he went. A raincloud was literally hovering above him, showering him with guilt and sadness. His usual peach coat was a darker shade, much like how Pinkie pie reacts when she’s upset. Snails looked up to Spike, guilt and sympathy flowed through the dragon’s body as he could clearly see tears dancing in his eyes.
“Oh, sorry for that, I guess I can’t get any luck today. You’re the fourth person I’ve bumped into,” said Snails, retreating his tears. “in the past minute” he added, he tried looking upbeat and not like a desperate beggar. But his mood was much too obvious to hide. He tried hiding his face by staring the other way.
-Look, Snails, I know I’m going to regret asking this,” Spike started, sighing in depression “But, hey, what’s the matter?” Snails whipped his head back at the dragon as if Spike was the only one who cared enough to hear the answer.
“Whoa! You know, you’re pretty much the only person that’s cared enough to want to hear the answer” he said, his tears were almost starting to disappear, but they re-appeared as Snails looked back over his shoulder.
“Well, you know how today’s hearts and hooves day, right?” he asked, Spike nodded and gestured to the wagon behind him, Snails understood and continued “well, um, I sort of, err,” he leaned in close to Spike, although Spike felt guilty for this, he half-expected him to lean in closer and kiss him. Instead, Snails stopped when he was satisfied he was close enough. And whispered while making sure nopony could hear them.
“Can you keep a secret?” he asked, Spike looked at him with a perplexed look, but just decided to go along with it, he made the terrible mistake of letting go of his wagon, while they were just a meter away from what the citizens called “the danger hill” for the numerous baby strollers and senior wagons that somehow ended up rolling down that slope. With his hands free, Spike performed Pinkies infamous swear.
-Cross my heart, hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my mouth-err, I MEAN eye” he said, doing the gestures, Snails leaned in closer, Spike had the impression that Snails was going to kiss him again, but dismissed the thoughts.
“I sorta have a crush on Sweetie belle” he said, slightly rubbing the back of his head. Spike just stood there, mouth agap, wondering if to just start laughing or be a good friend and listen, then laugh.
“And I’ve had it for quite some time, but I’ve never had the guts to admit it to her,” he said, turning his head away once again “I’ve tried it so many times, but she’s just so sweet, it’s too much of a risk to take. I’m already in her friend zone and I don’t want one faulty move to ruin my relationship with her” he said, he fully expected Spike to start laughing, but to his surprise, Spike completely understood what he was talking about, as if he had experienced the same course of events himself.

Pinkie jumped record lengths across ponyville, hoping to arrive at the train station as fast as possible before she was too late for her big chance, she knew she would finally have the guts to, well, sit down and just talk, knowing that no buffalo vs. apple war would ruin her big opportunity this special day with her special stallion, after unexplainably ending up at ponyvilles local flower shop. She knew she was on the right track.
The train station was just a few meters away. In an unquestionably cartoonish logic bend, she stood next to the train station gates in a split-millisecond later. Nopony gave it a second thought, as these things were highly common around these parts. Pinkie galloped inside the train station, dashing past a sign that read “no running” so fast, that she once again, unquestionably rearranged the letters so that they read: running allowed. Pinkie’s hairs stood on end when she heard the intercom pony announce, “Excuse us, gentle-colts and mares. Train 6- Apploosa to Ponyville, I repeat, train 6- Apploosa to Ponyville is currently arriving, closing time is coming soon, so get you’re lovestruck rumps moving and have a happy hearts and hooves day!”
Pinkie did a huge jump, one that could jump from building to building; she landed right next to the gate that led to train 6’s rails, and with one midget leap, was standing outside, the train doors just opening. To Pinkie’s absolute luck, Breaburn was the first to come out of the train; she pounced from her spot onto Breaburn for an Ursa Minor hug.
-Welcome to ponyville, cous,” said Applejack, who had just come to greet her visiting cousin.

-So, you weren’t kidding when you said that you actually tried to offer her a cutie mark for her birthday?” said Spike, he hadn’t really moved for a while. He was too busy listening to Snails hilarious attempts at trying to flatter Sweetie bell, of which he definitely could relate to, except he actually used logic in his numerous attempts to capture Rarity’s heart. Snail’s raincloud was slowly stopping its downpour. He saw that as a good sign.
“There’s nothing funny in it. Apple bloom once made herself a cutie mark” replied Snails. The more they talked, the less he realized Sweetie belle was slowly approaching the two.
-Look, Snails, if you want to flatter sweetie belle, try a song, she loves singing and music. Or, maybe, all you should do is trot with her along to school. You know it’s not that tough.” He said, as if he knew what he was saying.
“That’s a lot coming from mister “I have a crush on Rarity” himself” he said, quite harshly.
-If you don’t want my advice, then don’t take it, all I’m saying is maybe she’ll be impressed by an act of sweetness or romanticism.”
-Impress who?” asked Sweetie belle, eavesdropping on their conversation. Snails and Spike both looked at each other. Before returning their gaze on Sweetie belle.
“Um, Sweetie belle! We were just talking about, um…” started Snails, beads of sweat rolling on his face, of which his raincloud took care of. “Oh! Did you know that Apple bloom has a crush on Spike?” he said, having no confirmation of this statement whatsoever.
“She what!?” exclaimed Spike, a shocked expression on his face. Snails took him bye the hand and dragged him as far as possible from the white filly’s attention. When he was convinced they were out of eyeshot. He stared at her from behind a carriage.
“I repeat, she what!?” repeated Spike. Snails pretended not to hear him and continued to look at Sweetie belle, affection and daze in his eyes. Spike didn’t have time for a man-up speech, for his mind was too stuffed with the schoolcolt’s last sentence. It rang over and over in his head.
Oh! Did you know that Apple bloom has a crush on Spike?
Did you know that Apple bloom has a crush on Spike?
Apple bloom has a crush on Spike?
Apple bloom has a crush on Spike…
He could easily pierce through a poorly made-up excuse, but this felt as if it were real. All those moments they had together. How they were both in the same room when Zecora came into town. How, well, there was no other moment he had with her.
But the pieces were slowly falling into place.
Apple bloom has a crush on Spike
has a crush on Spike
Spike…
Spike…
“Spike!” cried Snails, waving his arms frantically in front of the daydreaming dragon. No response, he sighed and looked out to Sweetie belle, who was still standing there. His mother had taught him better than to be a stalker, but it was stronger than him. Sweetie was just cuteiful. Cuteifil was a word he had made up for Sweetie that described her perfectly. Her stylish curly mane. Her gleaming white coat. Her cute horn. What could he say? He loved her every feature.
