It was a warm sunny day in Ponyville the birds were chirping the woodland animals were scattering around and… HEY YOU! *face palm* hey pinkie what can I do for you so early in the story? Weeeeeeeeell I saw that you didn’t mention mean in your credits at the beginning like those other people!!!! Well I didn’t know... NONSENSE! Now pinkie promise to add me from now on got it! I pinkie promise to add you from now on. Ok can I continue now? YES!!! YES YES!! WAIT! I mean NO NO NO, you need to say the words to the promise! “Ugh”. “Cross my heart and hope to fly stick a cupcake in my eye”. EEEE yippy! Now you must keep that secrete foreverrrrrr GOT IT! Yes Pinkie I got it ok. I’m going to move on now… Hmm she’s gone. Okay so where were we? Ah yes it was a sunny day and all of the little fillies and colts were scurrying around to get some last second playtime before their respected school started. There was one little colt who was still in bed trying to forgo school for as long as he could.

“WAKEY WAKEY WAKEY NO TIME TO BE LATEY”! Yelled Pinkie Pie rushing into Derpy Jr’s room.

“Bu bu but mom I I don’t wawanna go” he managed to stutter out.

“Oh nonsense you goofy ponypie”. “Just think after you past the test you can go to rainbows dash school for gifted flyers yaaaay”. His moms’ enthusiasm always managed to get him out of a funk.

“Now go right a roonie downstairs and make sure your father is ready to take you”. She said jumping up and down on his bed almost making him fly right out of it.

“Yes mo mom” just then Pinkie ran up and kissed his check “

“It’s ok Derpy I know you can do it”. She said while scooting him out of his room.

Derpy was smaller than most ponies at birth and was still smaller then all of the other colts around Ponyville and Cloudsdale. He has a glorious pair of wings that due to his size made him look even smaller in comparison. He was so afraid of his flying test that he hadn’t slept at all last night. He made his way down the stairs slowly making sure to take up as much time as he could. As he got to the bottom he heard a loud crash.

“Ugh my dad’s up” he said to himself knowing he was sure to find something broken from his dad’s clumsiness. “Dad what did you break this time?”

“Nothing nothing... just uh don’t come in the kitchen yet I uh am making breakfast… yes, so uh go get your things ready for the test”.

He knew his dad broke something, but he didn’t pay any attention to it. Everyone in town knew Derpy Sr. was the biggest klutz in all of Ponyville probably all of Equestria for that matter. Derpy Jr. or Dp as he liked to be called hated his dads’ clumsiness, he hears the talk other ponies say about his dad when they don’t see him listening. He just couldn’t understand how his dad stayed so cheerful knowing all the trouble he causes daily for other ponies. As he packed his saddlebag and put it on he walked into the kitchen to see his dads’ googly eyes and everything with a confused look on his face sweeping up a vase of flowers he knocked over with his wings. Oh my goodness I knew he broke it that lying scoundrel! Pinkie you sure this is the rig. He said it must have been ghost and I trusted him grrrr this makes me angry oh boy is he in store for it when I get home! Yes pinkie that’s nice may I continue? I mean who does that lie ergh this is like the time he added ink to my cupcakes to dye my mouth black, yes it was a great prank, but YOU DON’T MESS WITH MY CUPCAKE! Pinkie settle down you can go get derpy when we are done. Hurmmph fine! But, let me tell you! NO! Just stop I’m going to continue now.

“Dad I iam raready to go now”. He said walking up to his dad.

“Ok ok now if your mother asks some ghosts came in here and took the vase”.

“You know she’s going to fa find out right”?

“No way I’m an expert at hiding evidence” as he threw all the broken pieces out the kitchen window. “Oh yea smooth derpy smooth” he said confidently to himself. “Now you ready to ace this test and show how amazing you are at flying?”

“Yea” replied Dp

“let’s be off then” as he ran through the hall hitting another vase that wobbled for a second before going back into place like nothing had happened. Dp hurriedly ran behind him making sure he was ready to prevent anything else from falling. They flew up into the sky heading towards Rainbow dashes academy. Dp hated flying truthfully; he hadn’t really mastered his overly big wings just quite yet, And he was uncomfortable with flying in front of others.

“Listen son I just wanted to tell you that no matter what happens I love you and will always be proud of you” Derpy said putting his hoof around his sons’ small shoulder.

“I kna know dad I love you to too” he replied smiling at his dad. “Hey dad I ha have a question” he said looking at his dad.

“Yes son whats on your mind”

“How come you are so hap happy even wh when you mess up?” he said with a confused look

“Ha-ha well you see in life you are going to mess up its unavoidable especially in me case” he said with a chuckle. “And if you let someponies harsh words get to you then you’re letting them have the satisfaction of being right about you” he said with a warm look on his face. “And you don’t want that, you have to just be the bigger stallion and just let their words bounce of you like how your mom bounces off the walls” he once again started laughing.

“Thanks dad” he said giving his dad a huge hug.

“Any time Derpy uh I mean Dp” he said covering his mistake. “Ahh look we are here!” he said excitedly shaking his sons’ whole body

“Yay” is all Dp could muster while being shaken like a rag doll.

As they arrived at Dashes academy that sat right outside of Cloudsdale, they saw the huge banner hanging up welcoming all the new flyers who were coming to take the test to see if they can get into the best flight school in all of Equestria. The Academy opened up a year after Rainbow dash became head of the wonderbolts. She opened it up after saving her money from her wonderbolt shows. Since then all Pegasus come to take the entrance test to see if they have what it takes to be admitted in. on this day there was around 30ish Pegasus waiting for the test to begin. They arrange from all shapes and colors, colts and fillies alike.

Derpy turned and looked at his son “I’ll go register you up why don’t you go size up your competition” he said with a grin not noticing the pillar he was approaching.

“Dad la look out” Dp tried to yell out, but it was too late Derpy hit it with a loud thud. Everypony turned to see what caused the random thud sound. As they could have guessed they saw derpy holding his head backing away.

He tried to pull it off like he planned it.

“Yup this pillar is sturdy all right no need to replace it” he said still holding his head.

Everypony just laughed because they knew that wasn’t the case. All Dp could do was hide his face in his hooves and hopped no one would find out derpy was his dad. Dp figured his dad could make to the registration after that, so he went off on his own. He saw a group of 3 colts hovering together. Not wanting to be seen he tried to fly by undetected.

“Hey you” shouted the biggest of the three colts. He was all black with a fiery red mane and dark red eyes. He also already had his cutie mark, a red comet. Dp being spotted he reluctantly went over.

“Who are you and why haven’t I seen you in Cloudsdale tiny”? The other two colts laughed at his insult.

“Mu my name is”.

“Whoa whoa” he interrupted “what the hell is wrong with your voice freak, and why are you pink if you’re a boy”? His 2 friends once again laughed.

Dp tried to hold back his tears and remember his dads’ words about not letting someone get to you, but he couldn’t help it. He wasn’t as strong as his dad he was a freakish pony who couldn’t even speak right. The tears began to flow.

“Ha-ha oh my celestia he’s crying what a baby” the colt said. Dp had no rebuttal he just sat in a ball on a cloud while the colts kept laughing at him. “Look at the little idiot cry like a foal” the laughter continued as did the tears.

Just then a blur flew past the group and the colts stopped their laughter.

“What was that”? Said one of the colts behind the black one. Just before any of the ponies could answer the blur came back and stopped right in front of Dp. The suns glow shined right on this mystery colt as if it was making sure everypony knew who it was. Dp looked up and saw a rainbow mane flowing in the wing, bright cyan wings flew up and down.

“Could it be rainbow dash” thought Dp. “No she is much to small” he thought again, but before he could think another thought the black colt spoke

“look who we have here boys, the golden filly of Cloudsdale” he said in a sarcastic tone

“What do you think you are doing comet?” the rainbow filly replied with anger

“Why I’m just talking to my little friend here” comet replied with a smile

“Yea I see you guys are becoming the best of friends, now just get the hell out of here before I tell my mom what you did” the mystery filly said with a glare aimed right at Comet.

“Whatever Dash I’ll see you in the academy” and with that comet and his 2 friends flew off. Dash landed next to Dp and put her hoof on his shoulder.

“It’s ok they’re gone now no need to be sad” she said with a calmness in her voice that made Dp remember his mom. And with that he looked up to see the Filly smiling at him. “The name is Dashter, soon to be the fastest flyer Equestria has ever seen” she said with a wide smirk across her whole face. “What’s your name kiddo?”

He looked closely at her face and thought how he has never seen a more beautiful pony in all his life. OH EM GEE OH EM GEE Derpy Pie Hooves jr has a crush on Dashter EEEEEEEEEEEK. Yes Pinkie, yes he does. THAT’S SOOOOOO CUUUUTE!!!! Yup its sure is… back to the story. Oki doki loki.

“I I um am Derpy Jr er I mean Dp” he felt his stutter go away for some reason while looking inter Dashters ember eyes.

“Nice to meet you Dp” she said grabbing his hoof and shook it violently.

“Likewise” he said as he felt his face start to blush. “Um thanks for uh helping me back there”

“Oh no thanks needed, and don’t listen to Comet he’s just mad he’s the second fastest pony here” she said laughing. “Well I got to go get ready for the test, even though my mom owns this place I still have to apply for some dumb reason” and with that she rocketed off towards the testing field.

Dp just sat on the cloud taking in all that happened. He was actually excited about being in the academy, just for the sole fact he could see that marvelous filly again.

Five minutes later he found his dad trying to fix an apple cart he knocked over accidently.

“Hey dad did yo you get my number?” he asked landing next to Derpy Sr. He also realized his stutter was back.

“Oh yes I did uh it’s hmmm” he searched violently through his saddle bags. “Ah here it is number 1. Oh isn’t that lucky eh Dp” he said smiling taping the number to Dp’s body

All Dp could muster up was a sigh. Together they flew over to the field where the test takes place. Dp searched the crowd for Dashter, but sadly couldn’t find her. He did manage to see Comet, so he made sure to stick clear from him.
They sat down and waited for the introduction. All of the sudden out on a podium looking over the field he saw Dashter with what looked like another pony with a rainbow mare. He assumed it must be Rainbow Dash that is until he spoke

“Hello everypony as you may have noticed I am not Rainbow dash” the crowd gave a loud laugh. “I am Speedster Dashes stallion and overseer for today’s test.” He said with a booming voice. “Now today’s test is like every test before this. You start off and have 5 seconds to fly a straight line 250 meters, after that you must fly in a perfect zig zag around the cloud pillars, but be careful if you run into one it will hurt….. a lot”. “Now after that you must complete a triple loop d loop flawlessly”. So at this point we would be done but we added a new obstacle”. Out of the clouds rose a spinning windmill structure spinning rapidly. “this is out new toy”. Chuckled Speedster “all you have to do is time it perfectly and fly through the spinning clouds inside”. “You must do all this in under a minute. I know you all will pass with flying colors”. “Now to help show you how it’s done my daughter Dashter will go first”.

And with that Dashter took off leaving a rainbow trail behind her. Dp didn’t pay much attention to how she was doing the course he was mesmerized at her beauty. And within what seemed like a second she was done sitting next to her dad again.

“Amazing.” Shouted Speedster, giving his daughter a hug. “Now next up we have number 1 can number one move to the start.

Dp snapped out of his held gaze on Dashter and realized he was up and wasn’t inertly sure what to do. He made his way to the starting line and looked up one last time at Dashter. He saw her smiling back at him. That smile made him feel like he could take on an ursa major.

“You can do it”. Yelled Derpy Sr. he wasn’t paying much attention to his dads cheers his attention was on passing this test.

“Are you ready”? Asked Speedster. Dp gave him a nod. While this was going on Comet flew under the crowd and had a slingshot ready with a pebble in it. Waiting for Dp to fly by.

“on your mark, get set, go”! Shouted Speedster

And with that Derpy Pie Hooves was off. All his nerves were gone he knew that despite his previous problems with his flying he knew he could pass this test. He speed off like he was in wonderbolts. His dads jaw just dropped. Thanks to his small frame and big wings the speed portion was easy for him he made it passed the 250 meter mark and flew to the second challenge. As he was flying all he thought about was Dashter. He cleared the first pillar.

“Only 9 more” he thought to himself. The second one cleared, third, forth, he was going to do it for her. Only 2 were left and he cleared the first of the two and flew towards the last remaining one. Just as he was nearing it Comet shot his sling shot and it hit Dp in his right wing causing him to turn early.

Derpys jr. whole left side slammed into the last pillar wing first. He felt the bone in his wing snap and he cried out in pain. Uh we can just skip this part right? No Pinkie you know we can’t just close your eyes and I’ll let you know when to open them. Okay….

The shear pain from the impact almost made him blackout. He started to descend rapidly; he hit the cloud floor but just fell right through them.

“Help him”! Screamed Derpy Sr. “I’m not fast enough”! with that Speedster rocketed off the pillar heading straight at the descending colt.

“He won’t make it” Yelled one on looker. Speedster gained on Dp faster and faster.

“I love you mom and dad” was the last thing Dp mustard out as he heard a loud boom and slipped into darkness…
