Chapter 12

I walked through the brightly light forest, only occasionally stopping to admire the beauty. "Man, I wish there were more places like this back home." I said to no one. "I take it where you're from is different?" I heard a voice ask. I turned to see Princess Celestia. "A little. It's mostly big cities and oceans, but there's this untouched piece of forest, called the Mystic Ruins. It's beautiful, there're only two buildings. One is an ancient pyramid, having stood through the test of time. The other is small shack owned by a friend of mine. I don't visit him as often as I should…" I answered.

"Places like these are disappearing… People need more space to live so they're cutting down forests like this one. Hopefully people will leave some of these beautiful forests alone, but that's for the future to decide." I said, before asking "Do you need something? Is it Eggman?" Celestia laughed before saying "No, we just haven't spoken much. Sonic, as long as you and your friends stay here, you'll all be part of the Equestrian society. Never forget that." I turned to face the setting sun, which was a good sign on having to return to town. "Lots of ponies say this place is dangerous… It doesn't seem to be when I'm around…" I commented, before feeling the telltale signs of the transformation. "We should be going, the forest gets even more dangerous at night…" Celestia said to me. I nodded before starting my way back. I made it just as the last of the moon rose above the horizon. I noticed that the library was abandoned as soon as I opened the door.

"Huh? Where is everybody?" I asked myself before seeing a note on the wall. "Dear Sonic, if you're reading this then you've arrived home before me. I've just gone out to the market with Spike. Don't worry, we should be home an hour after sundown. From, Twilight." I sighed after reading the note. I'd thought something much worse had happened. We had four of the Chaos Emeralds, and we were no closer to finding a way home… Did I even want to go home? I wasn't sure… What about everyone back home? What will they do without me? Black Doom is dead, so there's no chance of him returning… Eggman is here… I can't think of anything that would be a threat. If we did find a way home… I would have to make a big decision. I was freaking myself out, so I went up to my room and lied down.

I woke up when I heard the door open, I heard Twilight call my name, and then cry out in fear. I rushed downstairs to see an Egg Pawn that was trying to grab her, I quickly slammed my fist into its head, crushing it. Several more rushed in, and tried to fight me. I destroyed them all, and ran to a cringing Twilight. "Sonic, my ankle… I think it's broken…" She said. I scooped her in my arms and rushed outside, the moonlight creating a dim path. I nearly tripped several times. We made it to the hospital, and several ponies cried out in shock as I burst through the door. "What's wrong?" A doctor asked me. "It's her ankle, it might be broken..." I explained.

-1 Hour Later-

"Mr. Hedgehog, her ankle is fortunately not broken, but it is a pretty nasty bruise. She'll be fine if she stays off her hooves for a day or two." I sighed in relief as the doctor asked me "Mr. Hedgehog… What caused this?" "Eggman…" I replied. "You mean that insane human!? Well I'm sure you showed him what-for!" The doctor exclaimed. I walked into Twilight's hospital room, and said "They're going to discharge you, but Doc says you gotta stay off your feet… Hooves… For a day, maybe two." "Well at least we got some good news…" Twilight said. "But Sonic I was so excited… I had found a Chaos Emerald…" She told me. "That's why they went after you! Twilight… Please be more careful…" I said, worried.

I picked her up and left the hospital, when we arrived back at the Library, Spike had already cleaned up the debris and metal. "TWILIGHT!" He shouted rushing at us. "Sonic, is she gonna be ok? Will she be able to walk again? Are we going to have to take care of her because she'll never be able to leave her bed?" He asked. "She'll be fine she just has to stay off her hooves for a few days." I replied, getting a relieved smile from the dragon. I set Twilight down in her bed and told her "If you need anything just ask." She smiled warmly before asking "Could you do me a favor Sonic?" I nodded before she said "I need you to go Fluttershy's house and check if she has that book she borrowed. It can wait until the morning." I saluted before going into my room and lying down.

-The Next Morning-

I woke up and snuck past Twilight who was still asleep, I saw Spike was up and making breakfast. "Morning Sonic." "Morning Spike. So what's on the agenda for today?" I asked. "Well Twilight told me that I'm going to handle things here while you take care of her chores around town." Spike replied. I nodded before grabbing a plate, and getting something to eat. "Delicious and usual Spike." I said before grabbing a list of the counter. "These my chores?" I asked getting a nod from the small dragon.

"First, retrieve Fluttershy's borrowed book." I said to myself before walking out the door. I approached Fluttershy's house and saw Knuckles sitting in the lawn, he had a smile on his face as he watered some flowers. "Hey Knuckles!" I shouted startling him, he tried to hide the watering can behind his back. "What are you doing?" I asked. "Nothing." He replied. "You sure about that?" I asked. "Yes." He answered. Fluttershy walked out of the house and approached Knuckles. "Oh Knuckles. I just wanted to thank you for all the help you've given me. I can't thank you enough. Helping me with the animals, feeding the birds, watering the plants, even getting Angel to eat less picky. Oh, Sonic. Can I help you?" She said. "Yeah, Twilight wanted me to pick up a book you borrowed. She's bed ridden right now." I answered. "Oh-no! What happened?" Fluttershy asked.

"She just needs to stay off her hooves for a few days, Eggman had the nerve to attack her in her own home!" I explained, which caused Knuckles to tense a bit. "Who knows he might go after anyone… Er… Anypony now, so you'd best be careful." I said, which caused Knuckles to stand up. "Maybe I should escort you around… Don't want you getting hurt." He said to Fluttershy. "Knuckles… I'm sure I'll be fine, I don't want to be a bother." Fluttershy quietly replied. "You kidding me? It's just to make sure you stay safe, it wouldn't be a bother." He insisted, grabbing her hoof. I swear I saw a spark between the two, their eyes met and they stayed like that for a moment before Fluttershy quickly darted back inside, saying "A-all right…" I smiled before looking at the list and deciding to try again later.
